Why 4 stars? Because pancakes + nostalgia carry the day here. --- --- --- As a kid, I recall the pancakes here being absolutely amazing. Sometimes, you remember something in your head being better than it really is, but despite not visiting a Cracker Barrel in at least a decade (maybe two), those pancakes are exactly how I remember them: perfect. The rest of the food? Yikes. We ordered a cinnamon roll skillet and it was pretty terrible. First off, it was mildly warm, at best. It looked like it had been sitting in the skillet for a few hours and tasted no different. I reluctantly finished one of the mini rolls but it was not worth the calories. And I also ordered a campfire skillet. This is one of those situations where when you almost exclusively eat at highly-rated, mom & pop restaurants, you forget how bad these big, corporate chains really are. It was passable when I masked it with some ketchup, but the eggs look like they were spit out of some giant machine that makes 1,000 plates an hour. It shouldn't take that much effort to make decent eggs, which leaves me confused. But between the pancakes and the museum of rare candies in the shop, Cracker Barrel is still an enjoyable experience. We all agonized over what candy to take home because there were so many good options. And everyone who worked here was super friendly. Just don't come in with high expectations for the non-pancake portion of the menu. read more

Okay, as far as Cracker Barrel's go, this is just not top of the line. We live close to here, so I come semi-frequently and I feel like the food is a bit hit or miss depending on the day. It seems to make no difference if it's morning/night or even different days of the week, it just varies a lot. Additionally, there has been a smell in the women's restroom that absolutely reeks for going over six months now that they just have not gotten rid of. The only part that keeps us coming back is my son's enjoyment of the chicken and the servers are often quite friendly. Granted many servers are new whenever we go (so I believe there is a lot of turnover) but they all are generally quite nice. read more

We stopped in for brunch about 10:30 on Friday morning. Server was spot on. She checked on us many times. Food was a little delayed, so she brought us complimentary biscuits and cornbread. So, on my birthday, I ran into my BFF in the parking lot at Sam's! She and I agreed to meet at Cracker Barrel in Conroe for coffee and to visit. We were seated right away. It was around 3:30 so there weren't many people there. She explained to the server that we were just there to visit for a bit and have coffee. She also said it was my birthday. The server brought our coffee right away and also brought us some rolls and cornbread. So sweet! When the server brought more coffee, she also brought me a giant piece of cake!!! I have never had their chocolate cake before. Wow!! It is rich and delicious!! We shared it of course (as far as you know ). What a wonderful birthday! It only got better. In the gift shop my friend bought me some candy. Maple Nut Goodies!!! Very close to the ones that Brach's used to make. Can you say "sugar coma"!!! I love homestyle country cooking and have had good luck at other locations but was disappointed in this one. Long wait mostly due to hostess communication. Servers working hard to keep up while management didn't seem to be helping. Had to get up and ask for drink refill and manager said she would send someone but made no effort to help. Meatloaf undercooked. Generally like looking around in front store but it was so crowded and cluttered we just skipped it today. I believe new management is needed to help this location. read more

A friend and I stopped here last week because we wanted to see if the food was better. It has been a good five years since my last visit. I'm not sure I will ever go back after eating there again, at least for dinner. We had to ask for the biscuits and there was only one other couple in the restaurant beside us. The time was 7 pm and they had NO small plates available for the biscuits. Well that's a bad sign of things to come. I ordered the hamburger steak, you can't go wrong there right? Wrong, no seasonings at all and it tasted like one of those frozen ones that is really flat. Sent it back along with the hash-brown casserole that was so hard and crunchy you couldn't eat it. Then we ordered the Coca-Cola chocolate cake, thumbs down here too:( the waitress said they tried a new recipe that day. Well the cake part was moist and fluffy really good but the icing was gritty. They need to stick with the original recipe for all of their food. No wonder no one has been there lately when we pass. No small plates in the whole restaurant, either the dishes were piled up or they broke them all. We couldn't make any sense of it. She ended up bringing us a small dinner plate. Great lunch with family. Attentive service with surprisingly no wait for a Friday early lunch. My uncle thoroughly enjoyed his lunch by choosing one of the multiple entree options. He chose meatloaf and chicken and dumplings with green beans, mashed potatoes. He is a big eater and could barely finish this plate. It's HUGE. I chose the lunch chicken fried chicken which is a large portion with TWO chicken breasts. I immediately put one on the side as I knew I'd be taking that home for a secondary meal. The mashed potatoes are flavorful, creamy and that cream gravy is on point. My husband ent with the fried fish special and he said it was tasty, fresh, flakey and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The sweet tea at Cracker Barrel and those biscuits are always spot on and a family fav. It had been a while since we had visited a Cracker Barrel so this visit was kind of nostalgic and made use remember why we enjoy them. Very disappointed with Cracker Barrel today. We arrived at 9:00. They were not busy and there were many empty tables. The server took our order and we waited over 30 minutes for our breakfast. She came to our table multiple times to let us know she was checking on our order. The kitchen staff needs help. Where is the kitchen manager? They need to hire more kitchen staff or maybe get the ones they have to work faster or better. Won't be going back any time soon. This is the 3rd time in a month this has happened. Management needs to get a hold of their front hostess stand. They absolutely disregard anybody standing there that has a notification that their table is ready. I was told to stand in one line and when I got to the front of the line, I told the lady that I was standing there and she was taking people that were off to the side who came up after me. Spoonful of hash browns were so greasy, the steak was so tough my dog had a hard time chewing it when I brought it home and eggs were supposed to be over hard, they were runny. They said they had to make a different steak because they burnt the first one. Meanwhile the crispy chicken breasts were so greasy. They remade the steak fries they were soaked in grease. The next ones they brought out were just as bad. The waitress said they were short of help in the kitchen. She meant they were short of anyone who knew how to cook in the kitchen. Dined in and got the Blueberry pancakes, they were soft, fluffy and delicious and came with butter on top and also a blueberry syrup, which was surprisingly good coming from someone who usually doesn't like syrup. The food itself is not what it used to be, but if you aren't picky you will enjoy it. I went in with a bigger party for dinner and the restaurant wasn't very busy. Our food was served within an appropriate time frame and the overall experience we had was good. The bathroom itself wasn't dirty but it did not smell good. What made our experience exceptional was not the food or environment, but our server. Her name was Tay and she took great care of us, being very attentive and friendly with each person. She even brought out a complimentary slice of cake for our birthday guest and took the time to chat with us before returning to work. You should never bring any food out until every plate is ready for each person at that table. Wife and I went into Cracker Barrel on Sunday after Church. Normal had a long time waiting to be seated. Both of us ordered the Old Timers breakfast . She ask for eggs over medium and I ask for eggs over easy. Both of us ask for bacon well done. Waiter brings our drinks. Then shortly brings three biscuits and gravy. No breakfast ! After a ten minutes wait he bring our breakfast both eggs on both plates are hard cooked and bacon on both is not done well. First complete ! Waiter says he ll get us new eggs. Another wait while we see him at other tables. Supervisor comes up ask how it was going I tell him the story . He apologized for the issue and says he ll get us a new breakfast. After another ten minute wait. We get our breakfast this time as we has asked for it . Our waiter never came by for refill s until meal was completely complete. If this review was for the food - at least the food we got - it would be more stars but this has to be my most disappointing experience at Cracker Barrel. Yes, it's Mothers Day and we expected it to be busy. When the gal who took our name said the wait would be 50 minutes we kind of expected that but then she said if we were willing to sit outside it would be shorter we said "sure". Well, after 60 minutes of waiting we were 8th on the list. When our name was called they seated us on the patio - our shorter wait time took 20 minutes longer. Our server was very nice and running back and forth to the kitchen...the patio was a long ways to the kitchen. Our appetizer came out followed by J's meatloaf and my hubby got his French toast and B got her eggs and bacon. 5 minutes later my hubby and I got our eggs and bacon. B and I are still missing our French toast. 5 minutes...no toast. Server swings by and says he's grabbing it. More time passes and still no French toast and the guys are done with their meal. We ask for the manager and we are given the "we're busy" excuse and "Ian's said she knew our order got missed and it would be out soon" and offers to get J a refill on his Coke. Really?!? I said I wanted our entire meal comped and she said she would just comp the French toast. We came here to dine together and our meal choice WAS the French toast! I felt our entire meal should be comped since we waited 80 minutes to get seated, dined with flies and a loudspeaker in our ear the entire time but she refused. The ambiance was horrible (they should've turned off or at least lowered the volume on the loudspeaker) and if you are going to add extra seating make sure you are able to accommodate your guests. We were just passing through and 2+ hours after we arrived (more than 30 minutes after ordering) I finally got my French toast. When we got our bill she comped the two French toast meals. Ended up taking it with us....so I could at least eat the strawberries. Summary: 1. At least 20 minutes over promised time 2. Flies all over outdoor eating area 3. LOUD table announcements continuously during meal 4. Food arrived in various stages over 30 minute period so unable to eat together 5. We go to this location 2-3 times a month, usually on Thursday nights for the turkey and dressing special. Tonight we had a party of five. When we ordered we were told they were out of the turkey sides - no stuffing, no sweet potato casserole. Two weeks ago they were out of turkey gravy. So, we tried to order chicken and dumplings - no dice, out of dumplings. How about the campfire meals, again out of both the chicken and beef. Well, how about fried apples, nope out of those too. At this point we left to go somewhere else. I talked to the assistant manager on the way out. He was apologetic, but that doesn't help when you have five people that's hungry.
