Why 5 stars? Because the brisket here is absolutely worth the trip. --- --- --- This area is full of some really amazing BBQ, so while I'd wanted to visit The Meating Place for a while, my assumption was that it couldn't top some of my favorite local places, so I kept putting it off. But I have to say: the brisket here is some of the best in all of the Houston area. I was a bit skeptical that this would be the case because most of the best BBQ comes from places that are only open from 11am until they sell out, while The Meating Place keeps normal restaurant hours. But The Meating Place beat the my bias and was really amazing. The ribs were pretty great too. The Mac-n-Cheese was fine, and I didn't care too much for the coleslaw (I think it had pineapple in it?) But if I had only had brisket, I would have died a happy and accomplished man, so everything was just a bonus after that. Sorry for doubting you and sorry for waiting so long. Came here lunch time on Saturday. Ordered 3 meat plate with Cole slaw and green beans. Children had chopped brisket and mac and cheese. The 3 meats I got were: Sliced brisket - Came with two slices. One slice was fine, the other slice was just of the fat cap of the brisket. Was a shame. 3 out of 5 stars. Pulled Pork - was dry and under seasoned, it had a nice crust though. 2 out of 5. Rib - The Ribs were good. I enjoyed the meat ratio on them. And the flavor was nice. 4 out of 5. Cole slaw - taste was good, I enjoy a vinegar based slaw. Green Beans - were sweet, almost as if maple syrup and brown sugar were ingredients. Just not what you'd expect. My daughter's chopped brisket was too spicy for her to eat. Ordered take out from here and the food was good. The service was good too. Brisket bombs were out of this world. Every was seasoned well and tender as can be. The kids loved the Mac. The owner stopped by the table let my husband taste a piece of brisket he loved it. Staff was very friendly and we loved that the owner cared enough to check to see how we liked the food. This is my go to place for Barbecue in Montgomery. I grew up in Carolina and that was where I first experienced bbq. You can get that experience here or more traditional Texas. All of their barbecue tacos are great, you can get them with coleslaw or without. They have the moistest most flavorful turkey anywhere. They have all the standards. Formerly The Grove restaurant now The Meating Place. Large menu with large variety of BBQ options. Tasty burger, outstanding fries & excellent service. The Grove had a smaller but better selection of fusion grilled goods, whereas the Meating Place has a huge variety of mainly classic BBQ dishes. The drink fountain was out of order so you could only get luke warm tea or lemonade. Ice was available and after asking you could get a canned beverage. The Grove decor was still evident in The Meeting Place so just a few booths and some basic tables with chairs. I liked the food and will probably return to try other offerings. A lot of BBQ restaurant options in Montgomery and I reckon The Meating Place can hold their own in the competition. read more

I go there two or three times a month for the biscuit and the banana pudding which they hardly ever have because it's so damn good lol they should make a fifty five gallon drum of it. It's a nice place, the hospitality of the staff was great, the menu is loaded with a terrific selection of meats, sides, and desserts. I was on a take-out mission and I ordered only one pound of chopped lean brisket and coleslaw. Once home, I started into my lunch with good expectations. I heard the angels singing as I savored the brisket and the slaw. Their BBQ sauce is excellent for my taste. I polished off the whole order including onions and pickles and was satisfied that I had discovered what everyone needs....a great BBQ joint with great service and great food. After two consecutive visits to the other BBQ joint just blocks away, we decided to give The Meating Place a try for lunch. We were pleasantly surprised at the newly renovated interior, from top to bottom everything was nicely coordinated and extremely clean. The expansive menu is displayed overhead behind the walk up ordering counter. Being a bit tired of bbq, we opted for the burgers and onion rings, although there was plenty other options on the menu to choose from, including salads, chicken fried steak, chicken, bbq, etc. Well, we were pleasantly surprised when the burgers arrived. They were quite large with almost half pound beef patty. Fresh vegetables were stacked high. The first bite revealed a very tender and juicy burger, cooked perfect to well done by request. We ordered the small side of onion rings, which was plenty for two people to share. These turned out to be the star of the meal. Made with fresh purple onion, the batter was golden crispy and mimicked the crust of a chicken fried steak. I'm not a big fan of onion rings, but these were excellent. As we were finishing up, the owner came by and checked on us. ( Bonus points when an owner or chef comes to the dining room and engages) We chatted about our food and the other food on the menu. He actually brought us a sample of his smoked turkey and it was deliciously moist and tender.
