We just moved out this way and happened to spot this place while driving by. So glad we decided to give it a try! It was raining the first time we came, so getting from the dirt parking lot to the front door turned into a fun little game of dodging puddles. The second you walk in, you're greeted by some of the sweetest staff. The cozy country atmosphere is full of fun, quirky décor that gives you something new to notice while you're waiting for your food. Speaking of the food...everything we tried was so good that we ended up bringing more family back for a second visit. The baked taters are HUGE and definitely filling. The green beans have the perfect sweet-and-savory flavor, and apparently the mac and cheese is a winner too because my son finishes it every single time before I can even sneak a bite! They also have plenty of seating, so even with a group, there's room to spread out. If you're looking for good comfort food with friendly service and a laid-back country feel, this place is definitely worth checking out. read more

We have family that just moved to Magnolia so we decided to give this place a try. The food, service and friendliness of the staff are great! The bbq has a sweetness to it...not what you expect from TX style bbq, but still good. read more

This is the original location--a tin building north of downtown Magnolia TX. A little hard to get to is approaching from the north, and a fairly small parking lot. Same menu as it's counterpart in Montgomery about 6 miles away. Excellent brisket--tender and moist without being fatty. Serve yourself drinks. They offer a deep fried baked potato that has converted the potato into "potato skins" -- its a great innovation. Interior is fairly industrial, mainly metal chairs. Overall their Monthomery location is a little more polished as a restaurant, with booths and better acoustics and parking. Food seems identical. read more

10.30.25 The Meating Place is one of our regular stops. The food is always great, the servers are always friendly too. The restaurant is always clean and tidy. They now have specials during the week. Today was chicken and dumpling or a loaded bake potato with meat and a drink for $13.00. I almost always order the turkey. It is the best turkey I have ever had. If you have not tried The Meating Place you really should! read more

My cousin is doing her no carb diet, so we decided to check out this bbq restaurant by the high school. Just right pass the bridge, quick right into their parking lot. Restaurant is spacious inside, patio seating available in multiple rooms. Big menu with variety to choose. We decided on 3 meat platter, ribs were delicious. Brisket came in 2 options, dry or moist. Moist was the best and very flavorful. Turkey reminded me of Thanksgiving. Paired perfectly with the baked beans. Order at the counter and the server will bring the food out to you. You have to ask for bbq sauce to go, they have little containers. read more

As a sixth generation Texan who grew up eating barbecue in this fine state I feel confident in my five star review of this establishment. The brick and mortar may be rustic and simple, but the food is fabulous. Today I had the barbecue potato. It was prepared Buddy's way which means they deep fried the potato before filling it with brisket, cheese, sour cream. chives, and upon request some burnt ends. I don't know if I can ever have a barbecue potato prepared any other way now. My hubby thoroughly enjoyed his brisket sandwich. They have daily specials with everything from ribs to Frito pie. Make sure you try the barbecue sauce. It is an interesting blend of sweet with a little bite. If you have room, make sure and try some of their homemade desserts. The dining room is small, but they also have a private room off to the side if you're looking for a meeting space. Drinks included everything from iced tea, lemonade to a soda fountain. Service was fabulous and they bring your food to the table. Magnolia is a small town but a barbecue place like this should put it on the map. It would definitely be worth the drive if you were somewhere else in the state looking for something unique. read more

This place was incredible! The service was great and they were very attentive the entire time. Aside from the great service, the food was so good! One of the best cheese bites I've had in a while. I also got the bbq baked potato with brisket and it was delicious! For sure would go back again and try something else on their menu :) For deserts! I believe I got the "chocolate eruption"(not sure if I got the name right!) and the banana pudding, so good would 100% recommend! I love that they put the date of when it was made :) read more

We came by here after my son had a football game nearby and were not disappointed. First off, the people here were awesome and very welcoming right when you walk in. My wife and I got a meat plate with brisket, turkey and jalapeno sausage. All were really good. My son had a brisket burrito which he loved. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some good bbq. read more

Brisket was amazing! Super moist and tender without being all fat. Staff was very friendly and our order for 11 people arrived quickly. Fried okra was also very tasty. As we were leaving the owner came out to thank us and asked how the food was. Since we hadn't ordered the turkey, he brought a few slices out for us to try. I wish we had got the turkey too! read more

Coming back here to write a review after visiting this weekend. Looking back, hard to find many complaints. The bbq pulled pork sandwich was flavorful, large, and moist (sorry if that word triggered you). I got smaller side of Mac n cheese which was the bomb! My side of potato salad wasn't my favorite but I did basically finish it so must've been good enough. read more

Great spot! Food is amazing and the vibes are just as good! Reasonably priced and great portions. The baked potato is so good!

We were a group of 6 dining here for lunch after the Renaissance festival and unfortunately none of us left happy. It is a big spot with plenty of seating and was maybe 1/3 full. Was told at the register they had run out of chicken and potatoes - sad but ok since we were pretty hungry. We ordered four burgers(all the same), pulled pork, macaroni, and queso with pulled pork. 3 of the four burgers were cold to the touch. 1 of them didn't have any vegetables at all. The flavor of the burgers was mediocre at best - really underwhelming. The queso with pulled pork... well I will let the picture speak for itself. Room temp queso and cold pork lol In terms of service, the staff we interacted with were lively and nice. We did notice throughout our experience that multiple customers were going up to the register to ask and wait for their food. We think it is because many people were being served their food shortly after coming in and others that had been there a while were still waiting on their dishes. Perhaps they were short staffed that day? Overall we were very disappointed since they had good reviews. Don't think we will return. read more

The Meating Place BBQ is a must stop if you're coming through Magnolia headed north off FM 1774. Don't take the bypass take the side road next to McDonalds because you don't want to miss this place‼ Step up to the counter after checking out their huge board menu on the wall. Once you order you get your drinks and find a good place to sit. Someone will bring you, your food so no need to go back to the counter. I usually get just a chopped beef sandwich and a drink today I thought I would give something else a shot and try the Frito Burrito. It did not disappoint. The atmosphere was casual and good country music was playing. Stop in and get you some grub‼ read more

Vanessa was attentive and very quick to assist in getting my order to me quickly. The grilled turkey sandwich was absolutely amazing!

I really wanted to love The Meating Place, really I did. Special event evening with chorus group, ordered our food; Turkey sandwich Bacon cheese burger Side order of fries And a can of beer. Cashier reads the order back to me, paid by card, $10 cash tip and put the receipt in the jar as per the chorus group instructions. Had a Meating Place koozie AND a free beer token so we we're all set... Very nice, but underage, girl had to call chief to hand me the beer. Wife's turkey sandwich comes out 10 minutes later, my fries come out 15 minutes later... but no burger. I ask about the burger and they have no record of it on the ticket. I'm asked if I'd like to pay for a burger (again?). I respectfully decline and get another beer to help me sort this out on my credit card. Sure enough the total doesn't include the burger. I'll take partial blame for not checking the receipt before putting it in the jar, but the cashier repeated the order to me including my burger. Oh well, it was time to leave and I didn't feel like waiting for what I ordered nearly an hour before. Disappointing visit for me, wife's turkey sandwich was ok and the fries are fabulous. I really miss The Grove (same location) and will try the Meating Place again someday... maybe. Pro tip: have someone of proper age at the beer counter and a cashier that double checks a ticket before charging the customer. read more

Made a trip to Houston and The Meating Place was highly recommended. Food was...unexplainably yummylicious! Best BBQ I've ever put in my belly. Tried all meats, they just melted in my mouth. Lady at the counter was very helpful and had tons of patience, explained everything, so kind...true southern hospitality-cheers! Dining room had deer, ram and other stuffed animals staring at us while we ate. Had some old relics that were great talking points with our children. Can't wait to return! read more

Barbecue is not bad. Enjoyed a few visits here. Ambience is very welcoming. Not much to say about this place.

Driving through Magnolia and this place caught my eye. The decor inside and out screams relax and enjoy and that's exactly what we did. Live music adds to the ambiance. Food is great and not limited to the typical bbq menu. We had the whole bbq featuring pig skins, queso and in our case chopped beef instead of the usual pulled pork. What a treat! Service was patient as we perused the extensive menu and management checked in on our table during the meal. Well done. read more

Nice local spot for BBQ and smoked meats. I didn't go all in with a meat plate as I normally would just wanted some sliced beef cause I'm a brisket loving feller but not so much a sauce lover. I'm pretty sure it would have tasted better if it wasn't drenched in sauce usally that comes as a side option. Not sure what happened here but everything was great minus the sauce thus 3 stars. Seems to be popular for the lunch crowd, next time in town I'll know better. read more

I should've known when the manager (Kristen or Christy, can't remember) told a couple that their meal was on her when they came back. Apparently the man's ribs were not good & for the cost, he wasn't happy. Dry & bland was his description. We opted to stay in line and give it a try anyway. While waiting for our food we noticed people leaving large amounts of food and not asking for a to-go box....another sign. We did the same, left a lot on our tray. It was mediocre at best. Won't be wasting money here again. read more

I don't give many 5 stars, but this food is awesome! The smoke is mild, the meat is tender-loved the jalapeño sausage! The people were friendly and the service was excellent. Like any typical bbq spot, the atmosphere is what it is, as long as it's clean. I will go out of my way next time I'm in the Houston area to enjoy this spot again. read more

I came here for breakfast with some friends that had been before and raved about it, and it did not disappoint. The breakfast menu isn't huge, but it has something for everyone, and enough to make it really hard to choose what to get. My one recommendation - get something that comes with a biscuit. These things are incredible, and our table got the last one of the day at about 9:30am (breakfast menu is still served an hour after this), so you know they must be delicious if they are that sought after by patrons. I went for the biscuits with sausage gravy, and it was suggested I get the "half order" based on how big it is. Well, let me tell you, the half order takes up an entire plate, and I could only eat even half of that, so more power to you folks that get the full order! Others at the table got the breakfast melt and the breakfast platter, both of which looked great. I would certainly come back in the future to try out more (and get another biscuit). Service was friendly, welcoming, and fast. read more

Hm. Well, I wish I could say I had a 5 star experience here like other Yelpers but unfortunately, I didn't. Came here this past weekend for lunch with my wife and another couple because my friends don't live far from here and it seemed like a good place to try. I'm currently on a low carb "diet" so I opted for a 2 meat plate instead of a sandwich or something. I went with the jalapeño smoked sausage and brisket and for sides, baked beans and potato salad (I know, not low carb). Got my meal, I was a bit unimpressed especially in comparison to the others' meals. I feel the meat was a bit skimpy for the price. I also wasn't impressed with the taste of the brisket. The flavor was a bit weird to me like the meat was spoiled at the time it was cooked, couldn't quite put my finger on it. Also the potato salad was a bit lackluster. However the baked beans were really good and the smoked sausage tasted decent as well, not dry, moderate heat and good seasoned flavor. I also went back up to the counter later before we left and purchased a pecan cobbler for a "cheat" dessert later. Later that day, I lightly heated it up and ate it and wasn't impressed. It wasn't really that sweet, it tasted "healthier" (even on a diet, I love my sweets). The breading was also quite thick and crusty and just overtook the rest of it. Overall, it just wasn't desirable. I felt I wasted a "cheat" meal. I also like to address something else that happened here, we experienced some prejudice. When we first came in, I didn't quite notice it but my buddy pointed out that the lady at the register was a bit hesitant to greet us. What I did notice however is that while we were enjoying our meal (we sat in, ate and talked for a good hour or so), both the waitress and 2 of the other people working in there keep coming to our table and checking on us every 5 minutes and it felt like there were subconsciously saying "why are you still here??" And I just felt like I was being stared at the entire time; I just felt uncomfortable. Nothing about our appearance stood out as "eccentric", just 4 young clean cut black people. Now to clarify, I'm a very "adventurous" eater which has taken me to MANY different restaurants in many different cities and areas, good, bad and everything in between. I've eaten in places where I faced prejudice and I've also eaten at restaurants in areas where "I didn't belong" and I didn't feel that at all, both the owners and staff made me feel comfortable. So I'm pretty good at deciphering the difference. If I claim the race card, there's usually a good reason. It's sad that this is still a thing in 2022 but that's the country we live in. Therefore, this is a warning to all my fellow Black adventurous eaters, be careful if you come here. read more
