I was surprised by the number of very positive reviews compared to the food we were served. My daughter and I love seafood and try to find as many out-of-the-way places as possible to try. My daughter's favorites are catfish and shrimp, while I tend to enjoy more scallops, oysters, and shrimp. Without looking at the menu, my daughter exclaimed, "I want fried catfish with green beans and corn." No surprise from me since this is her usual order, albeit unusual for a 10 year old. I wanted to try something different while I was out on a business trip and this place knocked it out of the park. The restaurant was small, but it was a great atmosphere. The staff were really nice when it came to service, absolutely no issues there! The food was more than I expected, it was fantastic! I had a sampler plate with fried fish, oysters and okra. I have had fried oysters in the past that were over cooked and has become hard, these were absolutely perfect! They were crunchy on the outside but still soft and tender inside. The chef absolutely nailed those oysters!! The fish and okra were also really good. I am looking forward to stopping in here next time I am in town, they have great food and a family atmosphere. For the price you pay here the food is well worth it. It has this down home country feeling when you walk in. The waitress that served me was really nice. I ordered the chicken fried steak and for the smaller portion it was still a lot of food. You get free hush puppies when you walk in so no need to order any appetizers. Went there tonight. Got grossly overcharged, was offered no recourse, other than a couple of sides. My husband and I were having anniversary dinner, we ordered take out. 2 blackened scallop dinners, and an an extra 8 scallops. The dinners were 14.95. We were charged 58 dollars! The excuse given was that we were charged 2.50 per extra scallop. So, 2.50 x 8 is 20 bucks, about 5 bucks more than just getting an extra scallop dinner... Which comes with 8 scallops! Went to this restaurant yesterday and I have to say it was worth the drive from Houston to Conroe. The food was really, really good. We got fried yellow squash for an appetizer and it did not disappoint. We ate fried katfish, shrimp and oysters. The ranch dressing was was thick and tasty. Hell of a lunch special deal. Meat and either two or three sides, your choice. 3 fried catfish fillets is considered one meat. In addition to standard veggies, they have daily ones like mustard greens or turnip greens or carrots. Etc. Also have two daily meat specials. Lunch crowd packed with local senior citizens. They know good value when they see it. And good old fashioned home/style cooking. While most seafood, Gulf Coast fried, also offered lemon peppered or blackened grilled for those with healthier diets. This is a real old fashioned Texas Country family place.
