I have been on the hunt for a pair of Old Skool Vans for MONTHS. I even ordered a pair online at one point, only to be disappointed by the wrong sizing. When I walked into the Vans store, I made a beeline straight for the shoes. At first, I thought I had grabbed the pair I wanted, but it turned out to be the wrong style. Luckily, I knew exactly what I was looking for, and Ariana, the salesperson who helped me, quickly pointed me in the right direction. She was incredibly helpful and patient as I tried on multiple pairs. This is a very pretty store in a very safe and popular shopping destination. Right across the street is a new Toys R Us - and the vibrant area here is good to see in an era of online shopping and Amazon. I love skate shoes - they are durable and the soles are thin enough that I can feel the ground. If I'm on a roof or ladder or stairs I like to feel what is beneath me and if I'm on the edge - I know some people wear these Air Max 90s and I've tried them on but they have an enormous heel to toe drop and so bubbly - it feels like walking on marshmallow ladies platform shoes. They have good variety of Vans - and although this isn't my go to brand I always like to take a look at what's available - and shoes are one of those things its good to try on in person first. There is much more than shoes here for you stylish young people (I'm not that anymore - in fact I never took too much interest in fashion). If you are middle aged don't be scared to walk into here or Tilly's there are no signs that say you aren't welcome. I loved the window display here. It had Christmas lights that reminded me of the type from yesteryear. They are tastefully integrated into the window and there is a discount sign where most everything is half off. My son went down his first ramp at a skate park this week! I have to thank Patrick for answering all our questions about skateboarding all while he was putting together a custom board for my son. This was his first skateboard ever... Patrick was so nice, we came back to get a second board. The conversation triggered his dad to get back on the board and skate with him.. great service from all the employees and we all got cool vans. Ask for Patrick if you want advice on skateboarding and building a board. Vans should really promote their custom skateboard service. What a great experience shopping here today! I had no intention of buying anything, yet walked out with new kicks and sox. Just exceptional service and hospitality by every sales associate I encountered. The first fella helped me find the ComfyCush line. They are so light and yes, cushy. I copped a pair of the Project CAT tiger's fiery, "Off The Wall" high-tops. The second guy found me several pairs of sox. I love the fact they come on two different sizes. This dude even laced up my shoes! Finally, a lovely woman just chatted with me about the left/right logos on the sox as I was paying for my goods. There's a difference! The manager Jesus is horrible at his job doesn't know what he's doing and clearly shouldn't be in charge of anything he could barely help and was highly rude to me. The store is clean and well-organized for such a compact space. The staff was nice but very scattered. We were asked if we needed help by three different associates, explained what we wanted three times, all disappeared. I don't know why there were so many people covering the floor and then getting distracted. Seems inefficient. One person, one section, one customer. Finally we got shoes and it was fine. The line was long and slow. Staff was polite but better workflow should be established to reduce this frantic feeling of them rushing and then getting sidetracked. Staff is nice but the location and customers are super uncool so despite the stores size it's impossible to find any of the cooler shoes here especially if you're a woman with smaller sizes. It's not bad but it's not great. I like how vans has been Steadily improving the women's clothing and models to be more cool. There are even women who do stuff like female skateboarders and bmxers in their marketing which is a big change! 1 stars due to One employee!! I have been coming to this Vans store for my kids shoes for a while. Today, as I'm back to purchase shoes for my kids I decided to get myself some. Looking around, I noticed a pair I liked on the wall. Looked and saw it was potentially my size (I'm 7.5 or 8). I grab the display and tried it on. Unfortunately it didn't fit so I asked one of the sales guys for a 7.5. Tall white guy, blond hair, seems to have been a supervisor...He made it a point to tell me that they prefer that customers NOT try the shoes on the walls since it ruins the stickers on the bottom of the shoes.(WTF?). I told him I had not seen any notes advising this and maybe they should place them. The rest of the staff was very nice, just unfortunately that this one person had to ruin the experience. BTW we ended up buying 4 pairs of shoes. First time I've been in a shoe store where I'm told I can't try on a display. read more

Drove 20 miles because it showed on Yelp and google that they open At 10 , their store sign says 11 so they are closed. I wanted to try on some pants and was told that the fitting room "wasn't working." How does a fitting room not "not work" I asked? The employee told me it was because they have a lot of stock so they put it in the fitting room. When I asked him how do I try on pants then, he just looked confused. The employee was obviously a moron, but the fact that the store management is so disorganized that they had to sacrifice their fitting room is the truly annoying issue. I always wanting a pair of leather van slip on. I finally buckled down and paid the $65.00 for my first pair of the leather ones. The sales clerk was very helpful and made good suggestions about the sizing of leather shoes. She suggested that I go a half size down, due to leather stretching. I was so excited to buy these shoes and they were comfortable. I bought these shoes on June 12, 2019. I wore them the day of and on Saturday 15, 2019. After those two days, I seen white stuff that appears to be glue, on the side and the top of the shoe. It also seem like the thick rubber on the side of the shoe wants to come off. This should not be happening after two days. I take very good care of my shoes and I am disappointed in the manufacturing of these particular Vans. This is too much to pay for a shoe that can't hold up after two days of a consumer wearing them. I would like to know if any other customers experience this????? Customer Service is great, but the manufacturing on this particular shoe from Van is so bad to me. I need a remake on this shoe. Vans has a 40+ year reputation for manufacturing and selling some of the highest quality skate apparel and accessories around. They always claim the coolest color palettes and sign the greatest collaborations, and when you visit in shop you get a chance to get help from some of the friendliest and chillest sales representatives around. I love stopping by this location for new releases, they always have fair prices and usually have plenty of inventory for all. in addition to carrying plenty of hard to find shoes, they also have great in house sales with many items being marked down by 30-40%. I have visited on plenty of different occasions and have always managed to leave with 3-4 pairs of new kicks for right around $100, so if you dedicate the time to look through all their markdowns you can find some great deals also. read more

I hope this review doesn't get filtered, but after working at this Vans store for nearly a year, I can honestly say that it was one of the funnest jobs that I've ever had. I'm supposed to hate retail right? Even now as an ex-employee, I still sort of miss being surrounded by shoes all day, getting that stack of t-shirts perfectly folded, and chatting it up with the old timers about skating with Caballero himself. This Vans store is probably the cleanest one you'll see in the Bay Area. Having been to nearly all other Vans store locations around here, I can honestly say that Emeryville has the cleanest shoe wall, most organized apparel, and the least amount of ghetto customers. Our store is so pretty, that we're actually the model store for other Vans locations in the Bay Area, and also other managers get sent to our store to get trained to be better managers. Yep, we're good. The workers here actually do care about you! Be nice and friendly! Having a great chat with a customer brightens up a retail workers day like no other feeling in the world. For shoe suggestions, I'd check out the surf shoes. They're the ones hanging up on the racks in front of the shoe wall. They're really casual and super comfy to wear. They're also perfect summer shoes since you can wear them with or without socks! Also, the men's Atwoods, LPE's, and Alomars are all super nice shoes. For the women's shoes, I'd go with the Camryns or the Authentic Lo Pro's. Just a few other notes, it's a low volume store so they don't have as many styles of shoes as other stores. Also, because of this, the store only receives 1-2 sizes per style of shoe, so don't be too disappointed when they don't have your size. The skateboard counter is NOT the cash register. Public bathrooms are across the street and to the left of Abercrombie. No, they don't validate parking. Only the theater does that. And yes, I too wish they made the animal shoes in us grown-up sizes. Otherwise, it's a great place to come by and check out some new shoes! It's been a long time since I've worn these shoes. I had them in the 70's and thought it might be time to grab a pair again. I went to this store in Emeryville on MLK day after a movie with a buddy of mine and saw a pair that I wanted. The shoe guy grabbed me a pair in my size and I went to the register. There was a group of gals with a few pairs of shoes and some clothes to buy that were there at the register when I entered the store- however, I soon realized that these customers were asking questions about different items, and getting more items off the shelf, and maybe exchanging something too. Hey, that's their business to shop how they want to shop, the problem was I was there in line behind them for 15 minutes. There were other staff there but they didn't open the other register, also the sales gal never even thought to look up and acknowledge me or the 3 other customers waiting. The only one that was helpful was the guy who got me my shoes. After standing there without any sign of movement at the register (or even an 'I'm sorry this is taking so long look') I dropped my shoes on a shelf and walked out- I looked back as I was leaving, but they didn't even notice. I gave them 2 stars because they have a well stocked store and one guy got me my shoes quick- but I won't be going back to that retail nightmare of a place anytime soon. Back to school shopping always chaotic and I'd love to applaud stores that deliver prompt, responsive customer service. Sadly, Vans was not in the positive retail experience category. My 13-year old wanted a new pair of Vans so I thought this would be a good way for him to interact with the salespeople. When we entered the store, we were approached within minutes by 3 salespeople in the clothing area and politely declined as we were headed to the shoes. When we arrived in the shoe section, my son immediately found the shoes he wanted and approached one of the several salespeople. The salesperson walked into the back stockroom. Ten minutes go by and still no shoes. It was crowded, but people were getting served. After another 10 minutes, my son finds the sales guy and asks him where the shoes are. The sales guy replies, "I handed it off to another guy to get the shoes". He then points to the guy. I intervene by approaching the "other guy" to ask where my son's shoes are. He replies "Oh, I didn't know I was supposed to get them.Tell me again, what size you need?" My son tells him and he disappears. Five minutes later, he returns and tells us we don't have the size, but here is something bigger. I ask the sales guy where is the second pair my son wanted. He forgot. This mishap goes on for another 20 minutes and I tell my son we should leave and shop for Vans online. He is stubborn and ask to stay because he really wants the shoes. Meanwhile, the crowd has cleared and my son still waits. Time to takeover. Aargh! I approach 2 woman chatting about paperwork and quickly(while gritting my teeth), but politely tell them what happened and what we need. One of them immediately steps in and helps my son, like a salesperson should. Jessica is her name and she made up for the earlier customer service incident. Still, 1 hour to get served. Better off buying online, which I will do in the future. Lesson learned for my son, be more assertive and don't shop in stores with bad customer service. read more

This vans store is pretty cool, not only the store is organize but my experience in the store was very welcoming, I first come in the store and Alyssa one of the worker greeted me and offered a hand. I don't know, I'm not really a vans kind a guy, haven't worn them as much anymore but I still go back and forth from the shoe brands I like. And coming back from the store I was clueless to what kind of design I wanted that suits my style. Thanks to Alyssa she gave me great advice on which color way is great and she showed me the otw designs and honestly, I can rock these kind of shoes. She also showed me the sales and ask me what I really like and gave me some things that I might like to wear. Thanks to her I got some good deals and new shoes I can wear everyday. No wonder all of the brick and mortar stores are closing. Ran In to grab a pair of shoes since I had 15 min to spare and the "greeter" at the front welcomed me with her warm friendly smile (good) and I asked if I can get a pair of shoes in my size and showed her the shoe and said I am ready to get it! She said she was not allowed to leave the front area and I would have to ask someone on the shoe wall area. Tick toc tick toc. No one to be found and other customers waiting for shoe assistance. Before I left I asked the same greeter (while she was folding a sweater and not assisting anyone else) if she could help me and she said "she was told by her manager she not allowed to leave her area to get shoes". Maybe the MGR should train her employees (in light of how the retail economy is going) to be grateful someone wants to buy some hiring from their brick and mortar stores and help them with anything they need! Poor mgmt training. I told her, "I knew I should have just bought it on-line". Now I'm even questioning giving them my money on-line as well.... Customer service has become non-existent. Went into the store to find some half cabs or kyle walkers. The staff who greeted me told me about a sale going on. So I spent some time trying on shoes and picked out a couple pairs on account of the sale. It took about an hour to find the right options but finally walked up to checkout. The store manager told me that there was no sale and unless I had the ad there were no discounts or sales. I brought up the other staff who she corrected and then she turned to me and reiterated that there were no sales. I explained that this is the only reason I spent extra time in the store. I told her that I'd rather take the shoes off and leave than pay full price (I'd already put one of the pairs on and was ready to throw my old pair out). She told me to go ahead and do that. So while still in the store I looked up zappos and saw that the same shoes were almost the same cost as the sale price that the staff had offered me. Needless to say I'm enjoying my vans at a better price from zappos. I've been into Vans stores before and I must say this one is one of the biggest and cleanest I've seen. I like that the staff gives you space to browse but checks up on you. As many times as I've walked into a Vans store this was my first time purchasing a pair. I was a bit uneasy about the sizing since I was in sandals but Kortney advised that I try them on at home with socks. If I didn't like the fit I could return them with my receipt. As long as I didn't wear them outside I should be fine. I felt easy shopping and taking my time looking at shoes since I'm quite picky. I didn't feel rushed in picking anything. I wish there were more styles but I think the limited shoes helped narrow my choices down. I am in love with the ones I picked out today and hope to purchase more in the future. read more

Pros: Great selection of shoes Clean store Now here's why I'm only giving 2 stars: They didn't have the size I needed for the shoes I wanted, so I asked if they could place an order for me and have it shipped to my house. They did, but the register wasn't working properly (kept refreshing, took 15-20 minutes) which was all fine since it wasn't their fault. HOWEVER, the cashier entered my information incorrectly: 1. billing address 2. last name for shipping 3. email address for shipping They didn't offer to review the info with me before submitting the order, plus the printer wasn't working so I didn't get to check the info immediately after the order went through. She told me I would be receiving a confirmation email anyway so I was "good to go." I checked my phone before I left the store, didn't get the email, but trusted I would receive it later. Finally when I got home, I got the confirmation email, but saw my info was all wrong. So now, after having stood around, waiting in the store for about 30 minutes to have my order to finally go through, I WON'T be receiving the shoes because the order isn't going to process. You can't change Vans online orders either, so I'll need to wait for it to NOT process, then get my refund, and then place the order again (myself). Don't trust the cashiers to help you place online orders. If they don't have what you need in the store, order it yourself when you get home. read more

I was window shopping several days ago. I went into the Vans store and purchased a pair of skateboard shoes. I was impressed with the customer service by the two male customer associates. The associate who helped me during my half an hour visit was, Ray Gistarb, Jr. I am a older guy who has bunions. He took the time to select three shoes that might be able to provide pain-free foot ware. He was patient and polite to listen to my old glory days skateboarding. He definitely knows the footwear and the various types of skateboards. His coworker was equally friendly and knowledgeable. I would recommend this shop for children adolescents and adults if they're interested in the subculture of skateboarding and surfing. read more
