Although, I am from here, I never patronized this business. I am so glad that I had a chance to stop by and purchase a sweater. I absolutely love the color and saying. The store is spacious and clean. Parking is a pain as it is located downtown. I love the shirt display as soon as you enter. In the back they have a dressing room for your convenience and also gear from other local artists. The young man who helped us provided great service and was knowledgeable about the product. The telephone booth is super cute to take photos. The prices are a little steep, but you really can't find a shop like this that has the bay gear and quality. My son loves uniques hoodies and beanies, so of course this is a store for him. He had previously bought a sweatshirt from this shop so we came back to see what was new. I love Oaklandish and have been a fan ever since the very beginning. Why? I grew-up in Oakland and it was nice to finally see designs that proudly represented and celebrated the Town whether in reference to the Warriors, A's, Raiders, the Port of Oakland, Fairyland, key figures, communities, films, neighborhood restaurants and so on. There's a LOT to celebrate here! Oaklandish has also collaborated with local businesses and community organizations, along with supporting youth and education, which goes above and beyond the impact of other retail stores. I'm only giving 4 stars, because customer service has changed over the years. When we visited, the staff looked at us when we walked in, but didn't say anything at all. No hello, wave or nod. Nothing. What's going on Oaklandish? You're doing great things with your brand now just follow through and show a little respect and appreciation to the customers that come through. (Note: the staff member eventually talked to us when we were paying and was nice.) Prices are $25 - $30 for t-shirts and tanks and are available in a range of sizes from infants to adults. I was tempted to give three stars but some of my complaints, I am sure, were related to COVID. Prices were very reasonable. Service was okay -- they gave me the wrong size and thank God I noticed before getting into my car and driving away. Seems like a major thing to screw up. My biggest complaint was whatever "system" they were utilizing for trying things on for size, and a substandard inventory when compared to their online store. I've been to this location multiple times, and most of the time it has been a pleasant experience. However, this time I went was hands down the WORST experience I have ever had at any clothing store. Parking was already hard, I had to pay $1 just for 30 minutes and walk a bit to this store. I'm a total Oaklandish fan, even if prices are pretty expensive. I've had my eyes on a specific black Champion x Oaklandish hoodie, but the location in Emeryville didn't have my size. I went to this location, in hope that I could get the specific size. I walked around the store for a bit but couldn't find it, so I asked the person who was working. He didn't even bother to look at me or say anything and just pointed to the hoodie (how rude already, no smile whatsoever!). I then proceeded to go and check it out, then came back and asked if they had my size. He went to the back, literally for one second and said no. At this point, I'm already annoyed at how rude he is. But my sister wanted to ask about their free shirts for students who get a 3.0+ GPA. His answer was so bland and one-word answers, so I just said thanks and left. I was literally there for less than 10 minutes. What a waste of driving around for parking, paying for it, then be treated like crap without any merchandise I really wanted! If he's an employee he should treat customers better. He was wearing an Oaklandish green jersey and I could tell he hated his job. He was just on his phone the entire time (literally getting paid just to play on his phone!?) If you don't like your job, then you should just quit and apply for something that is better suited for you. I would give zero stars for his lack of effort to help me! read more

This is why I traveled from Sacramento to visit this store in Oakland. As I have been wanting to visit Oaklandish for over a year and finally decided to make it a daytrip venture. I met one of the artists and she explained how the entire crew decides on the new designs they come up with. In other words, they are all artists in their own way as they envision and create designs based on what they do, live, and experience. Yet they collaborate and collectively agree upon what will be put in print and sold in the store. Educational Aspect: There is a silk screening room in the basement and after all the artist/ employees collectively agree upon the design they are trained on how to set the silk screen. With a premise of inviting the public in to not only view and appreciate their art, but also to hopefully buy the end product, which is an interesting distinctive tee shirt. They are all so very different as the personalities of each artist come out in their work. I wanted to buy the all, but my budget didn't call for that so I had the arduous task of deciding on 3 tees. There is a web site for Oaklandish but in my opinion, and since it made me get outta the house, I made the trip to Oakland and met one the artists. Unfortunately I forgot to ask her name, however she explained on how she came up with her designs and gave me some ideas on how to make the tees look a bit more feminine. She's on the women's page wearing the green tee with Oakland's skyline... You will undoubtedly love this store. Make a trip of it. Take the train so you don't have to worry about parking. A few years back I stopped in at Oaklandish and I so wanted that snowglobe they had on display, but it was not for sale...oh boo hoo. I ended up getting a nice canvas bag for about $15. It is still in pretty condition and I use it for one of my shopping bags at the grocery store. Four months ago, Oaklandish was at the Yelp 50 event in Berkeley and it was there that I purchased two T-shirts - the Oakland A's 2012 AL Champ and the blue (with bridge) one, which I guess represents the Warriors. The gentleman assisting me gave me the coolest canvas bag to carry around (black and emblazoned with Oaklandish). Earlier this afternoon and during my 20 block walk from 29th & Telegraph to Oakland Chinatown, I decided to do a pit stop at Oaklandish and see what else I can purchase. Yes, they are a little pricey, but 10% of all proceeds goes to support Oakland Nonprofits Organization. The employees (all three) were friendly and helpful. I did find the perfect T-shirt to wear to an A's game (white Tee, Oaklandish and the sleeves in green) for $24. I was holding the T-shirt, not realizing that one of the employees went ahead and placed a medium sized one on the counter for my purchase. (I'm impressed and I did not expect that.) The other T-shirt that caught my eyes was the one that said "hella tight". Yep, I'm "hella tight" at times when I feel like it..."hella tight" as in stingy when them friggin telemarketers are trying to squeeze money out of my wallet...trying to get me to buy somethin that I don't need. Then, if I get a "hella tight" T-shirt from Oaklandish, I better get the right size; otherwise, it's gonna be "hella tight" fit on me...LOL. Okay, the black hoodie they had was also cool and hip..."pride roots...Oaklandish"...love it. I've been a fan of Oaklandish since they were running Liberation Drive-In, when they only had one tee shirt style, and instead of stores they were slinging shirts out of their truck. Honestly, half of my t-shirt wardrobe is from Oaklandish. They've had a few gaffes over the years, both in design and customer service. They think Oracle Arena and the Oakland Coliseum are the same thing! Instead of admitting their error, they said the Arena is part of the Oakland Coliseum Complex, therefore their design wasn't wrong. They ended up scrapping that shirt. On their Oakland Streets shirt, they hailed Broadway, Telegraph, MacArthur and International. That is until locals told them OGs call it E 14th. Scrapped that shirt too. The BART tree shirt has Lafayette but no Castro Valley. Lafayette? Posh ass Lafayette? It's not even the same county! What gets my 3 star review mostly is NO REFUNDS. It was pointed out to me in small print, but really, a new, obviously unworn item, with tags, still folded and smelling like it came out of the store, WITH a receipt. NO REFUNDS. What a terrible anti-customer policy. read more

So just had to do it. I had to go to one of my favorite fashion spots and write about them. This is a little different for me because I usually to write about food. It's kind of strange but for some reason I've been very nostalgic about the Bay area. I grew up here.... And things are changing so much we have imported people from different spots coming around gentrifying the neighborhood, which bring different dreams and changes the vibe of the place, I love so much. In which is not bad, but seriously makes me feel like... I dont know where I am from at times. I am bayarea breadcrumbs. So, places like oaklandish really speaks to me. It Just gives your city ...not just city pride, but Bay area pride. The place has two flagship stores. It is a fashion retail store located in Oakland. I was told that everything sold in the store that is screen printed helps benefit local non-profit type things. I remember when this place used to operate outside of an art gallery in Jack London square around 2005. And then around 2011 they opened a downtown store, I would often see "oaklandish" sell their stuff at the eat real festival too! But the truth was I didn't have any money to buy their stuff... Most recently oaklandish partnered with Dame Lillard(who is from oakland) to make a limited design for a basketball shoe. In speaking of basketball I just have to say it but the Golden State Warriors Jerseys there is one that I really think Oaklandish built and made for them, (whomever thier designers are). The heart of Oakland. To me...Is the Oracle arena, in which the warriors will be leaving, Yet, places like Oaklandish are mini staples built In the style to which helps Generate, Nostalgia, history, of where the bayarea was, is, and is heading. Pretty soon, when I can no longer afford to stay in the bay. Due to the higher cost of living, and as the us census will tell us California is overly populated from kids from Nebaska and Colorado moving to the bay area for tech jobs with thier used vinyl collection, and Welsh corgis...I will long gone from here, but what I will forever be wearing is my Oaklandish t-shirts! The young brother at the counter has no self awareness on how he is perceived where I had to even ask him why is he looking at me the way he was. Every year, I try and do most of my holiday shopping in my town of Oakland to help support local merchants. I spent Small Business Saturday shopping in my neighborhood, which includes Oaklandish on Broadway. I live only a few blocks away and have shopped there before. I've always had courteous (though, occasionally, apathetic) customer service - until tonight. Tonight, I watched a tall guy at the counter chat with a young, black woman in a very friendly and somewhat flirty manner. When it was my turn to ask a question, he gave me the kind of look I grew up receiving far too many times. I recognized that look. It's the "I don't want you here" look. I'm a Latina immigrant but people often mistake me for Caucasian. Growing up in a predominantly Caucasian world, I experienced my share of both subtle and sometimes noticeable racism. This guy made it clear he didn't want me there and didn't want to help me. It was obvious to me compared with the other sales clerk who was very friendly and smiley and compared to the way this guy addressed other customers. It felt pretty lousy. I'm seriously considering returning everything I bought and spending my money where the sales clerks don't judge customers on the basis of their appearance. It's really unfortunate. It's a good brand and they have cool stuff but not cool enough to overlook the way they treat customers. There are tons of great local brands in this town. I won't shop here again. read more

Really, really awesome store. Just looking at the store's facade makes you want to go in, and once you're in you're glad you dropped by. The inside is a modern, artsy, and gorgeous. Clothing, accessories, jewelry, art, and other locally made goods, all dedicated to the City of Oakland? Absolutely! There's quite a bit to choose from in this shop, and their shirts in particular have cool, creative designs representing different aspects of the city (you can get a shirt with a Fairyland key or images of the Port of Oakland, for example). Prices are a bit steep at times, especially because the shirts are just regular cotton tees with their art printed on, which was my only real drawback with Oaklandish, but other things were slightly more reasonable. The staff was really friendly and helpful when I was looking for a shirt in a different size than what was displayed, didn't make it feel like a chore at all to help. Very cool. Love the shop. It is such a cool spot that really captures the Oakland vibe. Everything they sell is high quality and crazy stylish. They also have some kids sizes. Unfortunately, the youth sizes are mostly designs that are for smaller kids, so pre-teen kids may have a hard time finding something more cool in a size small enough for them. Oaklandish sponsors events and holds monthly First Friday parties at the store. I'm a big fan I've bought a lot of their t shirts over the years. I like that they represent local Oakland in a real way. Last time I went to their store there seemed to be a huge focus on men's big money sports teams which is a very specific vibe, seems very different from the woman friendly and artist focused oaklandish I know. I'm personally not into promoting men's sports teams maybe stuff like their skate wear would be cool and they still have pieces around the arts which make Oakland real and won't sexually harass cheerleaders or move to Las Vegas. It'd be nice if the shop made an effort to represent as many female athletes as they do male teams owned by millionaire guys that can move to another city at the drop of a hat Imthe website is a lot more soulful and female friendly than the shop. I'd like to buy stuff from them without feeling like I'm supporting a sports team and instead the arts maybe online is a better bet? It'd be cool if there were as many women's skate team, local skate shops and women's roller derby here along with these corporate teams. Fun, funky, original designs for those of us who are proud to be East Bay people. I go online and buy a ton of shirts from the sale rack. It is hard to find me sporting a t-shirt that isn't from Oaklandish. I love the designs, the fit and what it stands for. They Host the Radio Regatta, which is an AMAZINGLY fun party/fundraiser at the Lake Merritt Boathouse with all sorts of free food and kick-ass DJs. Oaklandish had become rather popular among locals. We made the trek there finally. The store design is very clean, where only display items are on the floor. You'll have to ask the cashier for your size. Sure it reduces clutter, but we had to wait in the slow-moving line just to inquire if our size was available, with only one guy behind the counter. This is where all the shirts are stocked. I could hear at least 2 other people in the back room meanwhile we waited and waited. Customer service is at a glacial pace. Go online for your orders! It'll save you a lot of time and have a better chance for finding something that'll fit you there. I really like the concept, Oakland pride with the items being screened in the same city, offering jobs to locals. A small business that supports the community is always a good thing. Parked outside the other day during the Warriors Championship Parade. They have some very original apparel and have a good selection. It's located in Downtown Oakland on Broadway and near 14th Street. The opened their doors at 8:30am and sold some original "local" Warriors Championship t-shirts.
