Larry Blake's just closed and the old Cody's still makes that end of the street fairly lonely and even a bit creepy at night. And yet, Bancroft Clothing is still here, albeit as Store #15 in the Mccaulou's Department Store Chain. In past years, this store has been named as the "Best place to purchase Cal gear" per the Daily Californian Newspaper. And sure enough, when my sports-minded brother or my Dad comes to town, this is where they immediately go to buy a little Blue and Gold. They love the selection and the prices and I do too. The store itself is full and somewhat complex to navigate. While I'm here, I sometimes pick up a Clinque product for Mom or Gayle, and maybe look at the shoes upstairs. And for that, you might also want to stop in at the nearby Bill's Footwear on Telegraph, another South Side Survivor.

Considering the small space, the store has a surprisingly large selection of items and it's all well organized. When checking out, the cashier was friendly and rang me up quickly. When I'm looking for a greeting card, gift or needing to stock up on utensils/tools for the house and kitchen, I will come back to Palm + Perkins. Really cool mix of edgy, organic, and stunning quality across the board. My partner and I have gotten permanent jewelry from them three times. One year & two years later our bracelets have held up so well, no breaks. Sienna, who does their permanent jewelry, is lovely and super attentive to detail. When we went in for our newest bracelets, they kindly cleaned our other ones, as the stones had gotten a little grubby in the past year. They have a wide ranging selection of chain styles and tons of beautiful charms to add on. We were also able to request a particular stone/setting in advance. All of the sales staff are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable! We have shopped at their original Oakland location during busy hours when they have gracefully been juggling multiple customers and still made the point to check in with us. Their Berkeley space is super open with lots of room for browsing. We tried on a number of rings and they were so helpful in explaining different settings, stone cuts, etc. I wilk be shopping here for years to come!
