FIT has been my fashion ace in the hole for 10+ years.The selection never disappoints with its carefully curated styles that range from casual to a night on the town. Ever since I discovered Fit , I have received so many compliments on my clothing from random strangers while I'm out and about! I can always count on Joyce, the owner, to steer me right when it comes to what styles look best on me. I'd bet that about 80% of the clothing in my closet come from Fit. I was visiting and stumbled upon this store - what a gem!!!!! The clothing is very high quality and definitely an upgrade from what you find in the department stores - even Nordsrom. Ipe (pronouced, EE-Pay) was fantastic. She helped me in every way possible. I wasn't planning on spending $1,600 on clothes (which was actually a great value for what I got), but now that I have them I've been wearing them every day and can't wait to return in November when I'm back in Rockridge. I've shopped at Fit from many years. I'm not rich, thin, young or chic. They have always treated me with respect and have gone out of their way to find me things that fit me well and are within my budget. This is an expensive store, that's true, but I would rather have a few good pieces of clothing as key pieces (a jacket or pants) than a bunch of cheap clothes. Most of their negative reviews seem to come from the reviewer not understanding how old fashioned customer service works. They are there to help you. If you engage with them they will spend an hour trying to find the perfect dress for you to wear to your high school reunion. And if nothing works that's ok too. You'll come back another day and buy something else. read more

Had a "Pretty Woman" moment at this boutique. I was silently admiring a slip on a mannequin and the sales woman piped up from her perch to inform me that it's not a dress, but a slip, and asked me with a haughty cut on her jib what exactly do I use slips for. For the rest of my perusal she sat like a popsicle with a cold awareness on the periphery. I was looking dressed down and a little disheveled, so I wasn't exactly letting on that I had been nesting some $2000 to dish out for some new closet additions. That's okay. I wasn't blown away by their selection. Contrary to the photos used on Yelp, their in-stock styles have neither allure nor whimsy, but rather invoke "stuffy, frigid, desexualized housewife;" boomer fashion for the torpid, functionally married. The store made me ponder the less desirable effects of menopause, and the vacant grimace of the sales lady, the notion that we all must die alone...but some of us are already quite alone and dead to the world. read more

I'm a sucker for boutiques, especially those that line College Ave. I wandered into Fit one Saturday afternoon in search of a dual purpose dress to wear to both a girlfriend's wedding and to my own post-marriage ceremony dinner. I was only in the shop for a minute or two when a women came out from behind the counter to ask me what I was looking for and to help me with my dress selection. I'm used to going into these types of stores and being completely ignored, so the helpful service was quite welcome. In less than a half hour, I tried on three dresses, fell in love with one of them and was given jewelery, shoe and purse options to help complete the outfit. I left with only the dress, but was grateful for the dress/jewelery/purse pairings to give me some good ideas. Both ladies were super helpful and seemed genuinely interested in my marriage ceremony plans. Oh, did I mention that I'm also a sucker for great customer service?? read more

You told my friend he didn't belong in your store because he was male-presenting shopping in a store for women's clothing. And you followed him around and made him feel unwelcome and treated unfairly. Judging by your other yelp reviews, this is not an uncommon practice, to judge people and evaluate their "worthiness" of your store based on appearance. Shame on you. I've recently come to the conclusion that I'd rather save up for a high quality item of clothing that I will be able to wear for years rather than spend money on flash-in-the-pan fashions that will scream "I think the best years of my life are behind me, so I'm going to cling to my youth by shopping at Forever 21 well into my late 20's." This is the reason that I love FIT. Their clothing is classic and beautiful, and the sales staff are friendly without making you feel bad if you don't end up buying something. They've given me their honest opinion on several dresses (That one's pretty, but too formal for you to wear to work. You'll get more wear out of the other one, etc). Is there clothing expensive? YES. Is it worth the investment? I think so. I've gotten compliments on the few (but cherished) items that I've purchased there, and I'm always happy with the way I feel wearing their clothing. read more

Would give them more stars for their selection of cute dresses and tops. Bought a stylish dress here a couple of years ago, but I won't shop here again. Been there twice now, and the sales ladies are rather snobby with their fake smiles while they follow you around, quickly refolding whatever you picked up to look at. And if you are a mom who happens to have a toddler with you while shopping, don't go in there. They don't like them. read more

I was on my way to meet my husband for dinner on College Ave and had a few minutes to spare, so I decided to walk into Fit to browse around. When I entered, I was on my cell phone saying goodbye to my husband after quickly telling him where I was while also making eye contact to the two sales women in the store. I was promptly greeted with a "Hello" and "We don't allow cell phones in here". I asked them to repeat what they said and they did. Their attitude and tone were so rude, abrupt, and condescending that I just turned around and walked right out the door. I hate to break it to you Fit sales ladies, but 90% of the population has cell phones...so get over it. I will never patronize this store ever again. read more

I ain't saying their dresses aren't pretty, or that the picture of Diane Von Fürstenberg outside isn't cool. I'm just saying that I don't *look* like I can shell out $400 for a dress or $225 for a sweater, and that's probably why the sales staff have snubbed me on two occasions. Their loss! i was really bored one saturday afternoon and to kill some time i decided to stroll down college ave to see if i could find a new dress or some other unnecessary item of clothing. FIT has a great selection from lines such as DVF, clu, robert rodriguez, cop copine, and they're one of the few boutiques around the area that i've seen carry bettye muller shoes. but the pieces are a bit too grownup for me....i prefer much girler, frillier pieces (think rebecca taylor, catherine malandrino, tracy reese). maybe someday when i decide to trade in my ruffly white dresses and empire waisted smocks for real seperates and sophisticated dresses i'll be able to find something here. plus one star for friendly staff who really earnestly tried to help me find something :) read more

Love that place!!! I walk in with a vague idea what I need and come out with a great outfit that lasts forever. Great quality and great fit. yes, items are expensive but of high quality and I have had them for years. The other day I walked in with a bunch of boots and 5 skirts - I had no matching tops. How in the world does this place stay in business? I wandered in before a business meeting without any acknowledgment by the two women working at the counter. In fact, they gave me the quick up and down look and dismissed me. I was the only one in the shop. Ladies, didn't you watch "Pretty Woman?". This is a huge no-no in this area. This is my go-to place to buy clothes for everyday or for special occasions. I've been going to this store for years and have never been disappointed with the clothes that I purchase. I really enjoy shopping here. I would agree with the one reviewer about lack of girly items. Lucky for me, I'm not a girly girl and my job requires more conservative business professional clothing. (shocking, I know, in CA). I always end up with great service and really unique items. I say end up, b/c often in the beginning of my browsing, service is a little slow. I think that's because they're busy helping other gals already in the dressing room. However, once you're in a dressing room, they start pulling items and before you know it, I have a stack of new clothing that I just have to have! They receive regular shipments and carry many high end brands that I enjoy. They give honest opinions and tried to talk me out of a $700 pantsuit last time, which they liked on me but didn't love. I still liked it and bought it anyway. I'm never rushed and have been known to try on 40 items and spend at least 1 hour in the dressing room. If only they could create space for more dressing rooms. So while I spend more money here than I ever intend to, I end up LOVING the item and get more use out of it than some plain, non unique garment from the box stores. Despite the high end clothing and prices...I was really shocked that I was spoken to and asked if I needed any assistance. I found myself on a Friday morning waiting outside the shop for 30 minutes after their posted opening time. When the owner finally came, she was flippant and rude, saying that she just got back from a trip to Hawaii last night. I didn't go into the shop because there is no way I would support a business that didn't care about the client. I understand the clothing was already expensive, and I'm looking for a women's clothing boutique that offers guidance and a good experience. So I'm giving this shop one star.
