The restaurant has about 6-7 round tables -- perfect for family gatherings. We ordered Orange Beef, General Tso's Chicken, Beef Chow Fun, Special Chow Mein, Chicken with Salted Fish Fried Rice, and the Eight Jewels Hot Pot with Tofu. Everything tasted really good, but my favorite was the Orange Beef -- super crispy even with the sauce and really flavorful. Solid food, good portions, and a convenient location. Been coming here for many years, always landing on their fish congee as my comfort meal. The menu is standard Seattle Cantonese fare for the most part, and the roast duck is pretty good. It's a little outdated inside, and customer service can be a little rough sometimes, but I wouldnt call it a bad experience - it just feels old school to me. This restaurant is probably the only place inside the Great Wall Shopping Mall in Kent that I'd come to repeatedly for their awesome food! For this visit, I came in a group of 5 to celebrate Mother's Day a day early. Even with that, we had to put our name down on a waitlist, and even wait longer than usual since we did not make a reservation ahead of time through the phone. We did eventually get seated about an hour later and got a big table with the rotating glass in the middle for our family-style eating. For it being really busy and people coming in and out everywhere inside, food came out even faster! I swear it took like 15 or so minutes for all the dishes we got to arrive, and they are huge portions. - Lemon chicken: I always ask for the sauce on the side for this one. This is the only place I know of that uses chicken breast for the meat and not chicken thighs like most other Chinese restaurants do. Chicken tempura is crispy and chicken itself is juicy and really hot. Lemon sauce came on a bigger-than-expected bowl. - Mustard green and sliced pork soup: we asked for this one without the salty egg. Essentially a very clean soup with tofu, veggies, egg whites and small pieces of sliced pork. - Lotus root with fresh squid and peanut: lotus roots were a little crunchy, pretty nice dish overall with the peanuts putting their nutty mark throughout the ingredients. - Salt and pepper sole fillet: very salty but to the point where you don't need any sort of sauce. Came in very piping hot. - Ong cai/water spinach: pretty standard for most Chinese restaurants. Clean and a needed veggie among all the fried and salty dishes we got. - Singaporean style noodles: one of my favorites to get. Curry taste is prevalent, and was maybe a little too spicy for my parents to eat. - Razor clams: not a fan of these but I didn't taste any sand grains when I had a bite, so this was cleaned very well. - Lamb pot: lamb was a little touch to chew, and the fried tofu skins carried a lot more flavor for some reason. This was a humongous meal and we were all very satisfied! From other visits we were considering getting their slow cooked herb soup for this visit but it would be $16 per person so we did pass on it. That being said, dishes here are priced reasonably, and portions are really huge. Highly recommend here for a great meal for large parties! read more

I wanted my usual egg noodle wonton soup at Hue Ky mi ghia next door and forgot they were closed on Tuesday!! Ugh Well leaving the mall I walked by V Garden for the hundredth time so I looked at their menu and decided to give their noodle soup a shot. It wasn't busy at lunch time and sat quickly. Pretty fast service but def felt like the only white guy around. Tea was included and the soup noodles were pretty good size. It was tasty with a lot of bol choy and a pretty good broth. Overall it was not near as tasty broth wise or goodies like charred garlic and Chinese celery and greens etc as the place next door and the price a bit more. I would only go this way here on a Tuesday. It looked like they have pretty good food in general and my review should be a bit closer to 4 stars but didn't cut it by comparison to my favorite. Really solid, classic, go-to spot for all the foods that I'm nostalgic for. There were a lot of families and grandparents at this place on a busy Friday night, which I took as a good sign. One dish that stood out was the salt and pepper squid - soft and not chewy at all, with a crispy light batter and flavorful seasoning. But all of our dishes were great! The tea could be improved (it tasted like some sort of instant brew). Prices were reasonable (on average, $18+ for most dishes, each family style) and we had plenty left over for the 2 of us. This is located inside the plaza that has 99 ranch, on the far end across from Bambu. There's a lot of parking for the plaza, but when we went it was actually quite hard to get a spot. There was a wait-list to eat here, although the wait wasnt too long. A couple groups were asked to sit together to save space (groups of 2 and 2/3). We came here for Father's Day and ordered a bunch of random dishes. One of their dishes was advertised on the window and walls but not available (out of season). We wanted to order but it was hard to flag someone down. When we asked what kind of fish was used for a fish dish, the server didn't know and didn't care to figure it out either. It was surprising how oily the food was- more than the average chinese restaurant, it felt, even for the non-fries dishes. That said it was still pretty tasty and they came out pretty fast. Prices were about $20 a dish and it didn't seem to matter much what kind of dish it was. The portions were decently large. Waffling between 3 and 4 and leaning 3 because I'm not sure I'd come again any time soon given the wait and how greasy it is. Probably would try a new place instead. read more

Overall, the pricing at V Garden is pretty decent. Parking is a hassle, but the restaurant ambiance is small and well-maintained. Surprisingly good. It's a very unassuming small restaurant in the Great Wall Mall in Kent. It doesn't look like much from the outside and is quite small inside, just two big tables at the rear wall and about ten 2-4 people tables. But on the Sunday we went there were 4 fast and efficient servers so service and food was fast and I never had to wait to ask for something. They were also very friendly. Food was good. Very flavorful and the portions were big. I've been here 3 times and the last time we ordered beef ho fun, seafood egg noodles, peking duck with mantou(?), honey walnut shrimp, sizzling plate beef, duck, fish maw soup, deep fried eggplant, deep fried calamari, crab with e-noodles, stone pot rice and one other dish I didn't eat. It was a lot of food for our big party and over $300. But it was worth it. We took almost half the stuff home because the plates were so big. I don't know how else to describe it but the flavors all hit the right spot, just the right amount of sweetness or umami. So in summary, lots of food, good flavors and good service. Overall, the food lacks flavor, but if I were to guess, its probably because they don't use MSG...which is not exactly a bad thing. It's still worth it to me instead of driving to the International District. Peking Pork Chops - good flavor but portion size was on the smaller side and many fatty pieces that were inedible. Chicken w Black Bean Chow Fun - very solid dish and the portion size was perfect. Salty Fish and Chicken Fried Rice - this is one of my favorites! It is an acquired taste because of the salty fish, but if I'm being honest..I try to dig for the small chunks of fish in this dish. Good quality food, but not the best value. I'm writing an update that is beyond the lunch only of the previous review. (I never returned for lunch again.) It's COVID season now, and I ordered a couple of dishes for take out. Both dishes are from their regular menu. They offered free dessert with take-out purchase, which was a nice bonus. It was a Chinese hot dessert of sago in coconut sauce/soup, a fairly common Chinese semi-traditional dessert. The food: Seafood with Jade Tofu - Served over a bed of broccoli, this could be a very healthy dish if not for the fried tofu, which in this case was a bit too fried. When jade tofu is too fried, it takes away the soft pillow-y quality of the jade tofu, and pretty much ruins it. The egg white sauce is very good though so the tofu kind of soaks that up. Next time, I'm going to request not frying the tofu or lightly fried only. Beef Stew with Daikon - This was a total win! The meat is tender, flavorful, and abundant, which the hubby loves. (The photo of the container doesn't do it justice.) I loved the super flavorful daikon which had soaked up all that beef stew flavor. Yum, yum!! I want a tub of that daikon by itself as well as the normal dish. I ordered in person and pick-up was easy. No issue. read more

The portions are decent, but it didn't look or taste very authentic. That's probably what you get for ordering a Szhechuan dish at a HK style cafe that serve everything. The menu was huge with many typical Chinese dishes. We decided on half order of Peking Duck, Honey Walnut Prawns, and their salt and pepper Fried Fish Fillets. Food took about 15 minutes and came out looking absolutely delicious. The Peking Duck first of all - juicy meat, crispy skin and very well seasoned. The buns were soft, fluffy and fresh. The Honey Walnut Prawns - Mmmmmm! Crunchy and not at all overcooked. The generous coating of that secret mayo sauce was spot on! But I have to say, their salt and pepper Fried Fish Fillets is my absolute favorite! I can munch on a whole plate of that by myself - no rice needed! The batter is crispy, not at all oily, the seasoning just right - and that tender fish inside tasted fresh and flakey. You know how sometimes you order deep fried battered fish and you get that weird sogginess of the fish or the actual batter itself? Well that's not the case at all here. This dish was cooked perfectly from every angle! So far, this place has been consistent in their service and food quality. A solid spot for Cantonese food in Kent. The menu should have most of what your table is craving to get that Cantonese meal going. I know there is a pandemic going on so prices are expected to rise but we ordered a seasonal baked oyster dish and it was 6 oysters for $35-40 roughly. We came in for the special "lobster and crab for 38$" and only to ask questions about the menu and Lisa tells us that it's by pound and it's 38$ a pound but minimum 3/4lbs So it'll be 138$. So we changed our mind, only to order fried rice and beef noodles and the noodles tasted horribly. Like a cleaning solution chemicals mixed in the noodles from the first bite and Lisa was adamant about charging us for the noodles regardless if we didn't like it and the other server was rude and was talking ish" in Cantonese and after paying for the fried rice, that was 18, dad left a 20$ and she went off in Cantonese complaining we didn't tip and never come back as we were walking past her. I understood some of the things they were mentioning in Cantonese language but the experience was BEYOND HORRIBLE that me and dad EVER experienced getting yelled at, raising their voice at us. So right before we left, after hearing her talk badly about us prior to leaving, I had went back to the table and was still very respectful and nice, and mentioned same thing as what I mentioned to Lisa, "its not about the money, it's the principles and the costumer service we didn't appreciate" and as I went back to the table to mention to the other server that I understood what she was saying and I didn't appreciate the disrespect, to my surprise it was so beyond UNPROFESSIONAL and childish. That was WILD. so we changed our mind to ordering fried rice and beef noodles, only for matters... to get worst.. and towards us leaving, the server was BEYOND DISRESPECTFUL & UNPROFESSIONAL. Never going to eat at this place. My dad and I first Experience was THE WORST and not going back to this place. We were respectful and kind even after the experience and left the remaining change from the fried rice after a bit altercation with Lisa, who is "supposedly" the owner, who refused to give me her full name and her number and finally told us her name was Lisa when I asked for the owner yet that was the first time we knew her name as our server. The other server was even WORST then Lisa. Specially towards us leaving and she was speaking ish about us not coming back and not tipping (I understood what she was saying).
