This is a takeout review. My mom ordered some meats here and we were surprised at how good it was. She got the roast pork, the duck and pork shank. They were all flavorful, tender. This isn't a traditional American-chinese restaurant, this is more authentic Chinese, meats-hanging-in-the-window street stall type restaurant. There isn't servers or dine-in really, it's walk up order to go mostly. It doesn't really seem open from the outside but it is. They have maybe 10 options total. Meats and rice basically. Heard good things about this place on social media, so we decided to stop by while visiting another spot south of Seattle. The restaurant is currently takeout only, even though there's indoor seating spaces. If I understood correctly, staff mentioned there are some permitting issues preventing dine in service for now. We ordered the steamed chicken with scallion, golden pig, BBQ pork, house special roast duck, and soy sauce chicken. I was especially looking forward to the golden pig! When it came out, the skin was nice and crispy and flavorful, but the meat had a strong "porky" taste that wasn't quite to my liking. My kid, however, enjoyed it and the other one loved the BBQ pork. I found Megastar from a local Seattle foodie. When I walked in the restaurant was empty, the window was lined with fresh whole duck, chicken and almost whole roasted pig. I ordered two combos both with roast pork and roast duck. The butcher came over promptly to chop the meats. The cashier made my take out containers filled with white rice and simple sautéed cabbage . The butcher then placed my cut meats on top of the cabbage and spooned some duck fat sauce on top of my rice. I also ordered two scallion oils. The cabbage, such an underrated vegetable. Sautéed just enough that it was tender but not mushy. A nice cleanser paired with fatty juicy meats. The juices from the meats flavored the cabbage just to give it an additional flavor. This is a great deal for your money. I believe it was $16 for the two bbq meat combo. Once I had placed my order the restaurant started to get really busy, people lining up already. The roast pork was juicy and fatty, yet the skin was nice and crispy. Very scrumptious. My favorite. The duck oozing with juicy flavors. Fatty and meaty. My second favorite. I'm glad I had Megastar BBQ Restaurant as one of my many Yelp bookmarks in Kent. I stopped in about 2:30pm out of curiosity (8/10/24). Convenient private lot with ample parking. There is onsite seating, but no one actively dining at the time. I waiting in line and perused their posted menu at the front counter while two other customers were wrapping up their transactions. They do take cards (VISA/MC) and cash as payment. I ordered half pound each roast pork and BBQ pork/char siu, plus half a soy sauce chicken. Entrees are also available with vegies and steamed rice. The meats are expertly chopped, weighed on a scale right at eye level, and nicely packaged for takeout. Pleasant counter staff. Of course, Murphy's Law, another staff member brought out four hooks of roast duck to hang in the display area after I had ordered and paid. A good note to self for a future visit. Because I had other stops and long drive back north to Shoreline, I placed the takeout in an ice chest for safe transport on this hot Saturday afternoon. It kept well and was enjoyed back home with The Homie with steamed rice and condiments we had on hand. It really hit the spot as my first substantial meal of the day. The quality is comparable to Cantonese spots in Seattle's CID, greater Puget Sound, and Richmond, BC, Canada. Just note that roast pork is only available Thurs-Sun. I passed by this place not too long ago and was told that they have one of the best roast duck. Not sure what's the different between the special and the regular duck but the special duck was really good. The restaurant has plenty of parking and has ample tables inside. Looks nice and clean. A nice spot outside of Chinatown for traditional Cantonese BBQ! I got the 3 meat combo with roast duck, soy sauce chicken, and char siu. Everything was good and the portions were on the generous end. Also the prices here are good and cheaper than what you may find elsewhere in the Greater Seattle area. Quality is comparable to places like Kau Kau. Megastar BBQ: I ordered the roasted pork. First of all this was very expensive for the quality I got. Just for a little over a pound was $28 bucks. The pieces were cut huge like chicken Katsu with 9 baby back size bones in it. They were on the bottom of the container. I thought this was supposed to be roasted pork. Tons of bones and the huge pieces not cut normally like roasted pork pieces. I got no sauce like the pictures of other peeps who got roasted pork. The pork was barely warm and some pieces were cold. I must of gotten the last piece of pork. Because it wasn't anything special and somewhat salty. There are too many good places for way cheaper. This is one close to my house. Almost wanted to gate keep this for myself but I wanted them to get more business. They are your no frill quick service place for Chinese BbQ where they hack ducks, chicken and chunks kf succulent Bbq and crispy roast pork as you make your way down to the register. The gal working cashier is always nice and pleasant to be around. They don't have much of a dining space but if you're in a hurry, their few tables and chair would do the job. I love their roast duck but the best deal is the meal combo where you can get your choice of 1 type of meat, or 2 or 3. They serve the meat on top of a bed of rice and some tasty stir fried cabbage. We love their honey barbecue pork (叉燒) so we went back to get some more. Coming from Hong Kong, and having had charsiu in HK BBQ Master in Vancouver, I would say I know my char siu. Aesthestically, the Megastar charsiu doesn't look all that pretty and that's because they don't use dye (according to my chitchat with the owner in cantonese) and so I feel good about feeding it to my 3 year old. We also tried out their House Roast Duck. We'll, first, I had to find out what the difference is between the regular roast duck and the house roast duck, aside from the $2 extra. The owner shared that the skin is crisper (crispier?) And the seasoning is slightly different. And I'd say the best $2 spent. We liked it and would rank it as of one the better roast ducks in the seattle area. We plan to try out their beef chow fun 乾炒牛河 which was shared by their owner during our chit-chat. Fantastic little authentic Cantonese BBQ in downtown Kent. It seems like a family owned joint and the food is excellent. I highly recommend the duck, as it is particularly wonderful. Ordering is super simple as the staff speaks good English and are super kind and accommodating. The price is fair as it's almost all just meats. This is a legitimate Chinese BBQ place. Don't let the 1-star review deter you from trying this new place out! Looks like it's family run. So go and support your ma 'n pop shop! I just love how the roasted pig skin is so damn crunchy, not chewy like at some other places. They have the right amount of spice, not too salty nor too sweet. Love it! An amazing Chinese BBQ joint in Kent, and their proteins are top quality. I would definitely recommend asking for half rice as their rice portions are huge but heads-up that roasted pork is only available on the weekends. I was recommended to try this place after speaking with a coworker from Hong Kong. I've been to Vancouver, BC many times and eaten roast pork with rice on every trip at either HK BBQ Master or Parker Place Meats. This spot in Kent was a big let down, largely due to the portion size. I go and order their lunch with roast pork and rice. The middle aged woman behind the counter gets a rectangular styrofoam tray and fills it 80% with rice. She adds some cabbage. Then the young man chopping the meats gets instructions to add the roast pork. Do you know the size of a roll of quarters at the bank? They're about the size of my middle finger. I got 2 middle fingers worth of roast pork. I asked the woman behind the counter and she says this was the lunch portion for $11. This is about 1/3 the amount of roast pork compared to the two aforementioned places in Vancouver. And it costs about $10 CAD over in Vancouver, so about $8 USD. I showed the lunch portion to my coworker. He shook his head and said the restaurant will be out of business like that. The next day, he took me to another place in Tukwila inside of the Lam Seafood Market. There's a food court tucked away with a place called Golden Daisy. Their roast pork was priced the same as Megastar BBQ and the portion was actually lunch size. Never returning to Megastar BBQ again and don't recommend it for others since they will rip you off. read more

I've only been here twice and at least a year or two apart. Went today and just got Singapore noodle plus a half pound of the barbecue pork. Both were very good. The Singapore Noodles were generous portion, with good amount of shrimp and vegetables, flavor was great Barbecue pork here was not like the dried out red coated stuff you but packaged at the supermarkets, but fresh and had a variety of slices, from pieces with tasty rind but mostly pure tender meat and only a little fat. I don't know it compares to other barbecue pork, say in Seattle, because I just don't order this very often. what I got another time was the meat-rice-veg combo special and was disappointed for same reasons as some other reviews mentioned , such as boring vegetable (watery cabbage was all) and small amounts of the meat But - today's visit worked better for me to just buy meat by the pound and order my side extra. This way as a moderate eater I've gotten two meals out of my order even if it did cost a little more than just the meat and rice combo. We ordered 2 BBQ meat combo rice plates for takeout on a weekday for lunch. One had BBQ pork and roast pork. The other had BBQ pork, roast duck, and a fried egg. The rice plates come with a layer of steamed (or boiled) cabbage underneath so you can at least attempt to get some greens. The BBQ pork is good, but it's not the best I've had. The roast duck is really tasty, but it's a little boney. HOWEVER - I'm very impressed with their roast pork! The roast pork alone is what makes me look forward to ordering from them again. In my opinion, the best roast pork and roast duck that I have found in the entire Seattle area. I also like their salty fish and chicken fried rice, an important Cantonese staple. If you are a fan of Chinese eggplant with garlic sauce, ask for the version with salty fish. This is hands-down the best tasting Chinese eggplant dish I've ever had outside of Asia.
