Just left without being served I haven't been here in years. Always drive past! The last time it was a dirty dive and the food was not good so I never went back. I stopped in today because I had 30 minutes between appointments and hadn't eaten yet today. So I'm greeted by one women that couldn't wait to seat me and took me past everyone and by many tables to shove me in the little one at the back corner. I have a recent foot injury but I dealt with it. I was actually excited ( probably my hunger) to find that they've remodeled the place since and there were Asian families and diners eating what looked like good food. But she spent ten minutes after giving me a paper menu and water to come back. A group of 11 came in so I was getting up to leave. She said it would be another 15 minutes or more for me, the single white guy getting lunch by himself to get served. Really disappointed because I was hoping to be turned around and give a good review!! I'm not usually feeling bias when I eat ethnic food out and usually it's kind of funny and I joke about it when I do. Not this time. Blatant and maddening!! Don't eat here!! And keep in mind they hold an "OK" King county health code rating which is towards the bottom of the ratings and not near the top. Typically these ratings are consistently held by small businesses trying to do too much with too little staff and resources expended such as the service I received here! Maybe they did me a favor. The salt and pepper cod and sizzling beef plate were really good - the meat was perfectly cooked in both cases and well seasoned. Razor clams were tasty too - very garlicky and not tough. The hong kong noodle was disappointing. Maybe the crispy noodle would've been better, but the version we got was mediocre. The service was the main problem with the restaurant - they definitely do not have enough staff. The restaurant was not super full, but the food took forever to get in. Cantonese restaurant in the middle of Kent in a strip mall. Mid size interior, has that traditional and dated Cantonese restaurant look/decor. Went there for lunch on a holiday and they had a few tables with customers. Tried a few thing on the menu. Got half of the crispy (Peking style) duck. Theirs the more Americanized version (as mentioned by the server) that comes with the buns instead of the thin wraps. The duck was chopped so there is a thin layer of meat with the skin, and also has the wing drumstick and leg drumstick. It tasted fine. Also go the smooth chicken and mushroom clay pot. Their version has some extra veggies which I appreciated, but they also fried the chicken pieces so it had a crispy skin. The taste was decent, although I wasn't expecting the chicken to be fried given the name in the menu. Lastly, got the classic stir fried beef wide noodles. The flavor profile was correct, but could have used more of it. Also the beef was a little more fibrous and not that soft. Overall, food wasn't great, but wasn't bad. We ordered several dishes to share like the roast duck and boil chicken, just to name a couple of items (I forgot what else we ordered). Everything came out relatively quickly and the staff were nice. The food was okay, it was a bit salty according to majority of our group. Overall, everything was fine. Nothing really special to me. The batter is bland and the chicken has this funky aftertaste. The sauce is even bad-- too much soy sauce ... We threw away almost all of it. The sesame chicken is not that much better. Way too much batter and the sauce is so thick that it coagulated at the bottom. There is 5 small pieces of the crab rangoon and that cost a whopping $11.95. Stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon when going back home from Portland. It was around 4pm so there weren't many people in the restaurant. We ordered a Roast Duck, a 1-lb Yellow Eel clay pot rice, a half dozen of fresh steamed oysters with minced garlic, a water spinach with garlic, and a five spiced trotters. The waitress was very helpful and helped us through the menu. All food came fairly quick (within 10 minutes). The roast duck was probably the best I had in the Seattle area. The yellow eel rice is a classic dish in some southern cities of China, so it was a refreshing experience to try it out in the states and it tasted pretty authentic. The chow-mien noodles was cooked accordingly with squid, prawn, slices of BBQ pork and baby pak choi, with a gravy seasoned of oyster sauce, and it tasted delicious. But the Crispy chicken was a total disappointment, served over cooked and very dry in texture, seemed like it was pre-cooked and reheated in fryer. The chicken was layered with what seemed to be fried garlic, chopped shallot and diced jalapeno, these ingredients were over cooked and burnt, ended in a bitter taste. I keep accidentally ordering here, not remembering why I said I wouldn't the last time. The food is good. It's definitely a decent option. I keep getting the dinner combos because they seem to be a good value but I keep forgetting what we actually get. The combo is mostly pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken and then the tiniest bit of the entree you order. It's pretty ridiculous to see. I open it and am always so disappointed. The amount of rice from two dinners could feed six people. Someday I will remember to stop ordering from here. Or at least stop ordering the combination plates that are so imbalanced. Based on the other reviews, I was super jazzed...a little less expensive, supposedly large portions, and hey, they've got "seafood " in their name. Was hankering for salt & pepper seafood - squid in particular, but I wanted more variety, as well. When I saw they had cod, too, I thought "Yes!" So, I ventured off my usual restaurants (I've got two that I frequent for salt & pepper squid) and thought I'd try Fortune Seafood. Ordered online - tried the night before (for future order) after they closed, but was redirected until the morning, so followed their directions and set the pick up time for 11:30 am. According to their site, they were supposed to open at 11:00 am so that should've given them a half hour leeway. I timed all my errands perfectly - was supposed to dash in and pick up so I could make it to the Papa John's on the way home for the Parmesan Crusted Papadias for a neighbor (ordered from the car when I first arrived - should've been plenty of time). I already had the cut fruit and cake in the car - both needed refrigeration - so was counting on Fortune Seafood being relatively on time. BIG disappointment! I entered the restaurant and no one could be seen for about 5 min. I finally called out and a man from the kitchen briefly made an appearance to see what I wanted. Then I assume he called other staff and told them to come to the restaurant because another man and woman about 10 mins later, drove up directly outside the restaurant and came in to apologize. By this time it was about 20 minutes after the pick up time - she took my money and I had to wait another 10 mins. Thus, they were a half hour late in total. Yes, I got an apology but that's it. If it were my business and the customer came for a pick up and I hadn't even started their order, I would've thrown something in for free. That would've improved my mood. But, since they didn't and I had to drop off a lukewarm Papa John's order that tasted better than the Chinese I got, I'm unhappy with Fortune Seafood Restaurant. They're lucky my cake and fruit didn't spoil. The size of the orders were not huge for the price...the cod was very tasty though. The squid, however, was a bit tough and not as flavorful as the cod. (It's back to Lucky House for the salt & pepper squid.) The roast duck was very good, but the same I would get at 99 Ranch. All in all, I am not pleased and will not go back. I spent $100 on my first order with them (included even a small tip) just to see, and I've learned my lesson. I really wanted to like this place so I'd have options. Unfortunately, it's now a "no." Was craving some Chinese food and ordered through DoorDash. Mongolian Beef-4/5. It's what I expected and it was quite tasty. Thinly sliced pieces of beef well seasoned and intermingled with onions and green onions with just the right amount of heat and the flame taste. Would order again. Salt & Pepper Shrimp-3/5. Lightly battered and nicely fried. Great seasoning with a combination of green onions, garlic, and jalapeño. My only complaint is that the shrimp did not taste fully fresh. It was almost slightly dehydrated or even overcooked. Yang Chow Fried Rice-2/5. A good portion size. Combination of pork, shrimp, and beef. It was lacking in flavor. Don't get me wrong, I know this style of fried rice does not generally call for soy sauce, but it was a bit bland. Szechuan chicken dinner combo-2/5. Actually a pretty good deal. Fried rice, choice of soup (I got egg drop) sweet and sour chicken, crab rangoon, and choice of entree. It's always a gamble when I order Szechuan chicken because it varies considerably from restaurant to restaurant. I've had the brown sauce version, the ketchup based version, the Szechuan peppercorn fried version, and this version which was too heavy on the ginger and not enough on the brown sauce for me. I would definitely go back for the Mongolian beef but would pass on the Szechuan chicken. read more

This place used to be run by some Toi San speaking folks, now it's under new management. The dishes our group tried were House Special soup, Yuen Yang rice (120), beef chow fun noodles, and some shrimp stuffed tofu with sauce. These are Hong Kong style dishes. Our tea was supposedly oolong but tasted more like a chrysanthemum mix. Yuen Yang rice: could be more flavorful. The shrimp white sauce side was good; the tomato/chicken side was a bit too blah. But not bad, just needed stronger flavor. It wasn't too sweet which was good. The soup was a very simple daikon and bean stock with potato soup, very homemade, subtle, nice. The beef chow fun was dryer than some, but not greasy, so pretty good. The tofu was nicely cooked, just crunchy/chewy enough, but the sauce didn't add much flavor, which it should. Pretty good, but almost everything was too subtle and could use more kick in flavor for my taste. If you like very simple, light things, it's for you. The eel here is different with the one in Toishan, but we were very happy with it. We could tell their chef put their work to make the rice. Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you, Fortune Seafood serves some of the best Chinese food I've had in greater seattle so far! The interior is also simple and clean. We came here for lunch as a family of 4 and ordered 4 dishes; we were so full and even had some leftovers to take home to enjoy later. Their prices are affordable and they give you good portions. -Chinese Watercress in "sheung tang": veggies were sautéed to perfection - they were cooked and still had a good crunch to them. It is served in a flavorful soup base and was topped generously with garlic and SPAM slices (yes please!) -Deep fried tofu: when dish came, I was impressed with the presentations. You get 8 triangles of deep fried tofu and it is coated in this sauce. They top it off with fresh green onions. The tofu retained its crunch even with the sauce! One of my favorites of this meal! -Fish fillet & eggplant hot pot: this is one of my favorite Chinese dishes so I had to order this one to see how well they did theirs. It was AMAZING. The flavor was perfect and there was a good amount of fish fillet in there. They cooked their eggplant perfectly too (some places overcook them and are too mushy/broken)! -Dried scallop and egg white fried rice: this is also another one of my favorite Chinese dishes. Some places make their fried rice too oily but I am happy to say that Fortune Seafood does not! The flavor was a little mild but it was perfect to eat with all the other flavorful dishes we ordered. I had a great experience eating lunch here with my family, the owner was very kind and friendly. I would say their food is pretty authentic too! I lived in this area for over 15 years. The original owner was great but they moved on to another restaurant. The last two owners were okay but didn't survive the slow pace of this mall. Recently, this new couple took over the restaurant again and the food is authentic and better than most Chinese restaurants in Chinatown! We have been ordering to go from this new Fortune Seafood Restaurant about 5-6 times now. The large portions are consistent and so does the taste. They have remodeled the inside and make the entire place brighter and seems bigger. Since this is not your big chain restaurant, they don't have much budget to make the outside look fancy and have to reuse the previous name of the restaurant but don't let the outside fool you. I did suggest the owners to change the sign maybe encourage some of the new customers to give this place a chance. I hope these new owners can stick around because I don't have to get Chinese food from Chinatown no more. read more

Pros: Large portions, reasonable prices, easy online ordering, free items with minimum purchase, free delivery over $20 Cons: It's not very good. I had a hankering for Chinese food last night. This is the closest Chinese restaurant to where I live. In spite of living in Kent for 30+ years, this is the first time I've ordered from Fortune Seafood. Since we live so close my wife volunteered to pick up our order, due to a longer wait time for delivery. It appears as though they deliver themselves as opposed to farming it out to GrubHub or one of the other delivery services. We ordered the Family Dinner B for 2. Our soup was Egg Flower and our entrees were Prawns With Lobster Sauce and Kung Pao Chicken. In addition we ordered Shredded Pork with Garlic Sauce. My wife does not like spicy food so she enjoyed the soup, fried rice, and the prawns. She thought the Kung Pao Chicken was too spicy, although I would give it a 1* on the spicy scale. I also thought the chicken was overcooked and very chewy. The Pork with Garlic Sauce was not very spicy either and the pork was also overcooked, although otherwise had decent flavor. The pork fried rice was very bland. It had little bits of pork in it, but nothing else that you might associate with fried rice, like onions or egg. The BBQ Pork was bland and dry. The egg rolls weren't bad and I really liked the Crab Rangoon which were complimentary for spending more than $40. Even though I've been eating Chinese food for over 60 years, I can't speak to the "authenticity" of the food, I've never been to China. I do know that there are much better Chinese restaurants in the area and next time I have a hankering for Chinese food I guess I'll just have to get up off the couch and go to one of them. read more
