I really like that there is a self service kiosk. There is plenty of parking and it is easy to get in and out of the parking lot. The problem is that business with 50 packages or more are using the self service checkout. I have asked to use the screen to do my 1 package and leave. They get very upset like we are inconveniencing them. There should be a limit on how many packages you can ship at self checkout. A time limit might work too but there's a chance they could just do multiple batches. There should be a clear system in place separating mass businesses shipments and personal. read more

In the past the people were able to tape my package for me, just a small bit of tape but all of a sudden no we can't do that you need priority mail. i usually have all my packages taped and ready but this was a one time occurrence. This post office is so nice! I used to go to the one in La Mesa at Grossmont Center. I honestly dreaded sending care packages to my husband because the service was so bad and it was always hot and claustrophobic at that location. This has got to be the worst post office in the country. And since our regular carrier has been off with a work injury our mail delivery has been hit or miss. Different carriers every day, different times of the day-often after business hours -we are a business here in Santee. Packages show "out for delivery" but the carrier has no idea where it is -just shrugs and mutters that he doesn't know. This is beyond frustrating. This post office has employees who are not only efficient, but also knowledgeable regarding shipment options. Additionally, the employees are always willing to answer questions. Dropped off a package - wrapped properly in a brown mailer I purchased and the correct shipping label. The employee scanned the item but after three days it never appeared to be moving. Days later my package (a book) was RETURNED to my mailbox with a photocopy of my original label and IN THE INCORRECT PACKAGING!! The post office destroyed the brown mailer I purchased and decided to packing in a PRIORITY mailer when it is NOT priority. The employee that did that should know that. So of course once they "repackaged" it, it was mailed back to me instead of being shipped to my customer. No way to get a hold of customer service via email since the item was never scanned. Lost a sale due to the employees ripping open my package and repackaging in the incorrect mailer. read more

Think twice before doing a mail hold with the Santee Post Office. They resumed mail as scheduled but neglected to give us our accumulated mail. When I went there and spoke with a Supervisor, he said the mail carrier said he delivered it. Luckily, I have informed delivery so I have emails showing all of the pieces of mail we did not get. I have been home every day and we have a ring camera that alerts me when the mail carrier is making a delivery. He did NOT deliver the mail and nobody seems to know where it is. So lame! UPDATE - After filing a complaint online, my mail was delivered the next day. Apparently, they found our mail sitting in a bin. The Supervisor was very apologetic and nice about it. read more

Honestly, this is the best post office I've been to in terms of friendliness and customer service. The employees are helpful and friendly, and it is not usually super crowded here. The location is convenient too. And to those who think there is no drive up mailbox, yes, there is. However, there is a small driveway cut out just past the main entrance driveway for it. If you blink, you've missed it, so you do have to drive slowly and annoy everyone behind you to get into it! lol read more

This isn't about the post office specifically, but our mail carrier in Santee. Today is my son's 3rd birthday, and he is OBSESSED with the mailman and all things mail. I asked our mailman on Saturday if he would be ale to "deliver" a present (left by me on my neighbor's porch) to my son today and he graciously obliged. I honestly had no expectations and wasn't even sure of what he was allowed to do. But today he rang our bell and my son ran down and saw the present. Our mailman wish him a happy birthday and I had my son open the gift right there, which was of course his own mail truck! He thought the mailman giving him his own mail truck was the best thing EVER. He kept saying "thank you mailman" long after the mailman had continued on his route. Just wanted to share how amazingly kind this man was to my wild and crazy little guy! read more

I usually prefer this location but to be honest, I rarely need to get in line for customer service. I believe this may have been my first experience. Two people working at the counter, one man, one woman. Not really a big line. The woman that was helping, well, how do I describe this... she was cheerful enough but she doesn't let people speak. Letting people finish a simple sentence to describe what they are there for is definitely not her forté. She cuts them off, very short, but says it with a cheerful tone. I wouldn't categorize it as sarcastic. It wasn't that. But more like we were just simple-minded pawns for her to cheerfully push through to get to the end of her shift. I want to give three stars, a middle rating, because she does come across as somewhat friendly but customer service is also about listening. Part of listening is letting people finish their sentence without cutting them off and quickly shooing them away once you feel you've completed their request. So... two stars. It would be one but she wasn't really rude, per se and I still like this location. Hmm... I'm really hoping this was just an off day for her. read more

This is a decent location for USPS. It is not my first choice, but I come here often enough because I tend to stop when I am already in the area doing errands. I normally stop on Saturday mornings and it is always busy here. They do a pretty good job at keeping the line moving but I can never fault the staff for slow moving lines, it is always because the customers have no idea how to ship their packages. Please do everyone a favor and do your research ahead of time to figure out what you are doing. One thing that I have seen before and is helpful and I would love to see more often for busy times is a staff member standing at the beginning of the line to ask people what they are doing and if they need help, it helps keep the line moving. The staff is always friendly to me when I am there and I have never had any issues. The parking lot is large and has ample spots for customers. I always order my stamps online and I highly suggest doing the same to save yourself a trip, and because they have a cuter selection online. read more

I had a huge mailing to do for work. 588 long tube packages and all the staff at USPS Carmel Mountain Road were amazing. They all pitched in to get our tube packages weighed and put the shipping label on and get them done ASAP. It did take a while, but they got thru all of them really quickly. This is, hands-down, my favorite post office in San Diego. Even before renovations, they are efficient, the staff is friendly, and they are so helpful. I run an online based business and ship out a lot of packages. Twice, I have made the mistake of dropping something off without a label. Both times the staff intercepted it for me. The first time, the package was taken back to my store-front for me (because they saw a stamp identifying my business and then looked it up for the address!) and the second time when it had not identification I was able to call and claim it by phone and they held it at the desk for almost a week while I was on vacation. This location is clean, has ample parking, is nicely stocked with Priority Mail supplies, and has great staff. What more could we ask from from a post office? read more

Just had the most pleasant experience. I was attempting to mail a birthday gift locally (just a shirt and sandals and card) I boxed it in a flat rate box (because I've always known them to be cheapest and easiest). I get to the counter to pay and the clerk tells me it's half the price to mail it a different way and assisted me in doing so. She made it so easy and even let me decorate the box really quick before it got mailed out. Super sweet. This isn't the first time I've had great customer service here. It's easy to be negative or not care when you have a line out the door constantly but these post office clerks always seem to go above and beyond! read more

I went in because I received a notification my package was ready for pick up. At first they couldn't find it and then they said it's going to be delivered another day now. Horrible customer service. No one ever knows what's going on here. The associate who originally helped me even got mad at my 2 year old son for drawing on her post it notes. NEVER going back and would never recommend this place. UPS across the street costs a little more but it's totally worth it! Don't ever use the USPS service. The Santee Post Office is a model of inefficiency. The customer service here is nonexistent. It is infuriating to see a line of customers out the door, yet only two of eight available customer service lanes open. Meanwhile a half-dozen employees are behind the counter, in plain view, just chit-chatting away. At least pretend to be busy, or hide in the back where we can't see you. Forget being greeted with a smile or any pleasantries, the most you can expect is a stern "Next!". If you need a package shipped, or stamps or anything else postal related, the Santee Post Office should be your last choice. Your desperation choice. Every time I come here, I never really have a bad experience. It's always clean and all the staff is very helpful. I usually come here at night since there is the 24 hour priority mail kiosk. It prints out your label for you. Very easy to use. The stand with the boxes aren't always full if I get there after midnight though. Today I came to usps to try and ship sample sodas to another state. The staff were so helpful when letting me know how to ship them. One employee also created a package for me to squeeze the cans in. All this effort to save me a few dollars which is so wonderful! It's to save me money; to benefit me! They seem to want to help you and they seem like they really care. Great service! A polished t*rd! I watched the exterior cosmetic upgrade take close to a year. That, alone, tells how much money we, the customers, spend for routine upgrades that are extended well beyond the norm. That being said, it did nothing to improve the overall output of this particular post office. I live in El Cajon and make my way to Santee every Sunday for Costco gas and Sprouts. Twice in the three weeks I've visited this branch, once to use the brand new, inoperable self-service machine. This is supposed to be a machine that allows one to do most everything a real person could do without having to be dependent on them being available. Useless! The second time was today and I was in need of a priority box for an eBay auction. Not only was there no medium box, of either size, there were NO BOXES AT ALL! The entire bin was empty...EMPTY!!! I could possibly understand one size being empty, but not the entire thing. I'll never rely on this branch again. It is well worth my time to go the other way to El Cajon or La Mesa. I have never had an issue with either of those branches being up-to-standards. read more

I always experience monotone, rude , "bored" people at the Post Office and having worked once in retail, I can understand why sometimes workers moods aren't the best. Anyways, I went in to the post office to send something out really quick, all the booths were busy but there was no line and I wasn't in a hurry so i was just waiting when a man who was supposed to be off at 2:00pm (it was 2:16pm) stayed to take care of me. I told him I could wait for the next person so he could go home but he insisted that he'd help me quickly before he left. As a wife, I know sometimes you're waiting on your spouse to be off on time due to plans or for whatever reason so I just wanted to say thank you to the man that stayed behind to help me. It's a real pleasure to see an efficient and welcoming crew working at the Santee post office. This PO is always relatively busy but the customer service has improved greatly and it is a painless experience dropping your item off for delivery now. If there is a delay in service it's almost always the customers lack of basic knowledge of how to conduct business at a post office. This post office is not truthful. I was waiting for a package to be delivered by them on Saturday. They coded the tracking as "No Access" which would have been impossible. I live in a corner house with no gate and no dog. I also received my regular mail that day. There was no knock or doorbell ring that day as I was home waiting.
