Watched them laugh and slam the door in a handicapped 90 year old lady's face at 4 03 pm when they closed at 4. They yelled at her "NO WE ARE CLOSED BYE." She had a cane and couldn't get through the doors in time. She had one envelope to mail. I had to help her with the self service kiosk while they stood and watched through the glass doors. Don't know how they sleep at night. Also- they ripped off my label on my package and used it on something else they wanted to send to Phoenix. Sticking to the facts: 1) The mail carrier bent a tube marked "fragile" to fit it into a mailbox instead of bringing it to the door or leaving a notice for pickup at the post office. This action destroyed the contents inside. 2) I did not check my mailbox for about five days. The mail carrier chose to return all my mail to the sender and left a handwritten note indicating that he had done so. He did not give us the opportunity to pick it up at the post office, as policy requires. The carrier misled his superiors, claiming he had given us the time to retrieve it at the post office. 3) I was sent an expensive package that did not arrive, even though tracking stated it had been delivered. It was placed neatly at my doorstep three months later. 4) After moving away from San Marcos, I requested that my mail be forwarded. However, I have not received a single piece of forwarded mail since the request was made. ---------------- I have never encountered such difficulties with my mail in any other city where I have lived. The old wh*te woman with blonde hair needs to be terminated from her job. I have filed complaints about her before online for her making R*CIST comments to non-wh*te customers and people whose first language isn't English. Then today, I go in to pick up my mail because my mailbox was broken into and no one is fixing it....well this lady gets my housemates' mail, and doesn't bring out mine and my wife's. I tell her I really need 3 pieces of mail in our names because they are BANK statements with IMPORTANT INFORMATION on it, and this incompetent woman says, "I can't give you your housemate's bank statements." I said,"No, it's MY bank statement and my wife's piece of mail. And you already did give me my housemates' mail..." (She never checked my ID to see my name, I had just verbally told her my address, so she left and came back with mail for my housemates). She says, "Well, I just went back there and didn't see anything in your name, so you need to come back another day." I told her, "I'm sorry, but I know mine and my wife's mail is here because I got emails from the Informed Delivery where it shows pieces of mail that have been delivered either to my mailbox or this post office." She said, "those photos are taken in LA, so that doesn't mean they are here." I said, "no, they are. This mail is from last week. Can you please just check again?" And she says, "I already checked, and I'm not going back there again. You need to come back another day." Mind you....this is mail that was delivered to the post office on Thursday and Friday, and it is Monday now. I took my housemates' mail and I almost left without saying a word because I was so mad. I managed to squeeze out a "thank you" before storming off, and I SCR*AMED in my car the entire drive home. Now I have to WASTE MY GAS MONEY, MILAGE ON MY CAR, AND MY TIME JUST TO COME BACK TOMORROW AND HOPE THERE IS A WORKER WILLING TO TAKE 20 STEPS INTO THE BACK TO FIND MY MAIL....WHICH IS THEIR JOB. Where to start! The parking lot for this facility is pretty darn small and there's no real way to wait for folks to leave if it's full. It shoots you right back out on to the main street that has no easy way to turn around and re-enter. This is a huge issue because every time I stop in, morning or afternoon, mid week or weekend, it's full. The inside is tiny as well. The facility itself simply is not as big as it should be for the size San Marcos is now. Combined it leads to a nightmarishly long experience; so much so that I typically turn right back around and walk out because I don't have 1+ hour to spend at the post office to ship a package. And whyyyyy do we have to wait in line? Because the self-serve kiosk always has everything disabled except for buying stamps! Laughter at a post office! But first ... When I walked up to the first register, Mike patiently assisted me as I attempted to get my life, and paperwork together. I started to feel really silly and embarrassed, but he was kind enough to break the ice and crack a few jokes. The gentleman at the next register over caught wind of the laughter and chimed in with some humorous comments. (Peter, was his name ... I think? He referred to himself as Mike JR. We had an appointment scheduled for our kid's passports and arrived 5 min late. We had 2 appointments scheduled for a total of 30 min. When we arrived no one was in the passport checkout line so we waited in the regular line. Nobody came out to check or call our name but by the time we got to the counter the lady just told us to go wait in the corner. We waited patiently but no one came out to check and the lady never notified anyone we were waiting. We had waited about 12min when we asked one of the other workers if anyone was going to come out to help. She went back and notified the person Steven Swanson. He told her it was too late. We let the lady know that we had been waiting and no one came out to check. Steven came out and said he could not help us because we had not been there. According to him he came out and called out name 3:40 but that was a lie because we had been there at 3:35. He refused to help us and we mentioned that he could have came out to check or the other person at the counter could have communicated that there were people waiting but that was ignored. We understand we arrived 5 minutes late but with 2 appointments scheduled he could have at the very least one of the kids passports. It was unfortunate that he wasn't willing to assist us with at least one of the kids. Very poor customer service on Stevan's part and the older woman at the counter. read more

I'd give them zero stars if I could. Had an appointment to get a passport months in advance. The copy of my birth certificate was not good enough despite being certified. Had to leave and return to get a better copy and luckily I had it. The fees are absolutely ridiculous. $15 to have the passport photo taken? You can do this yourself with your phone and I highly recommend doing that. In total it cost $85 for the passport which is ridiculous on top of slow and incompetent service. Having an appointment didn't seem to matter because there were people in front of me despite being on time for my appointment. Had to wait for them. Overall expensive, slow and incompetent service is all that can be found here, and forget them trying to find your mail. read more

This post office location gets stars simply because this location is efficient in getting my packages out to where they need to go! They also have drive up mail boxes which makes sending light mail a breeze when you're on the go! This location loses a star on parking. The parking lot can be quite hectic to get in and out of even on slower days. This location also loses a star for not carrying the latest "Love Stamp" at the time of it's release in 2015. It was close to Valentine's Day this year that I was seeking the new release of the "Love Stamp". During my search, I learned from a postal worker that each post office location has its own Postmaster who is responsible for choosing what stamps the location will sell of the new releases. For instance, if the Postmaster wishes, he or she can order all the stamps that are released or they may choose to order just one style if they wish (really, I would think the Postmaster would have more important matters to tend to)! Let's just say, this location had more than its fair share of American Flags on hand during my visit. As much as I appreciate the American Flag and a stamp that supports our Vets...this didn't offer a lot of choices for my beautiful Valentine's Day cards! In most cases, if I need a stamp these days, I create a custom design and order them online. Today was a positive experience at the USPS. I had a gigantic box in my car for days and I went to two places yesterday to ship it back. Once place wouldn't take it (yeah, I'm looking at you UPS Store on Twin Oaks Road) and the other place closed at 3:30pm (yeah you, USPS in Rancho Bernanrdo!). So I found myself at the USPS in San Marcos. The parking lot was packed, but oddly enough, the post office was empty. There I was, on line, one clerk working and then another clerk stepped out offering to show people how to use the kiosk if they needed to buy stamps. This is a really poorly run post office. I'm not sure what the point of requiring appointments for passport applications is when the clerk doesn't show up on time. Then when she did finally arrive, she spent another 5 minutes wiping down the desk and all her pens. She tried to rush me at the end because someone else was waiting. The delay was her fault not mine. She didn't answer my final question and just walked away to the back room. I think she was hoping I would leave. I waited for her to return and for the answer to my question. The layout of the post office is very cramped. It is poorly laid out for social distancing. The forms are right beside the lineup, so people filling them out are right beside the line. Also, when you have to move from one counter to the other, you have to pass through the line and close to people. read more

This is my go- to post office, thankfully only a few minutes from my house. The people working there are nice, smiling and doing everything they can to be efficient with little/ no error even with grumpy customers waiting. All or most of the windows stay open which helps things go by quickly, so waiting out the door still doesn't take long. The last time I was there, it was 5-10 minutes before closing time and they hadn't stopped people from getting in line yet. The manager (I'm guessing?) kept coming out, counting heads and telling people to tell each other they were the last ones in line, but he was laughing and still letting people through. He went through the line making sure everyone was ready by the time they got to the front, helped choose the correct packaging and went to the back to grab an envelope for a lady that had several documents to send in a specific way. They must have stayed open at least 15-20 min past closing time and still not a grumpy face when I got to the front. This post office is long overdue for an expansion as San Marcos city has outgrown the site. A long line inside a cramped room does not result in happy customers or workers. The small original parking lot gets hectic. The drive up mail slots relieve some foot traffic. Inside there is a dedicated window for picking up packages/mail. The parking situation is pretty bad and it seems that a trip to the post office can bring out the worst in people, both in their personalities and in their driving ability. I was able to use the self service kiosk which I recommend to anyone who can use it. There were grim looking people in line so it felt nice to be able to breeze in, use the kiosk, send my package, and then breeze out. I made an appointment for my son to get a new passport, I'd never been to this post office before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Usually when dealing with these types of things nothing goes as planned. Our appointment was at 3:15, we arrived at 2:45. We only waited a couple of mins before being helped. Catherine was the one who was working on the passports. She was SO nice and helpful and very patient. I filled out the forms in blue ink (should have been black ink but I didn't read that part of the form) She had me fill out new forms but instead of making us get out of line she continued on processing us. She took his pictures and got all the other paperwork ready. She was extremely nice and helpful, because of Catherine we're giving this place 5 stars! Thanks for all your help Catherine! read more

Helpful staff here! I was standing in line ready to mail a package domestically. The lady said I could do the same thing with the self-serve kiosk. I was at first a bit hesitant because I didn't want priority mail. She said the machine offers other shipping options too and proceeded to show me how it works. I'm glad she showed me because I never knew how to properly use this machine! Three things I learned from her: 1. The machine does offer standard shipping on top of priority, but sometimes it might be wiser to opt for priority for a better deal. For example, for 55 cents more you can have faster shipping, tracking and free insurance with priority versus standard. 2. There are rulers to measure your package in all dimensions. Yes!!! You still don't see it? Just shove your package to the upper right corner. You see the silver rulers taped on the wall now? 3. To enter your recipient address, sometimes you only need to enter the street number and the zip code, and the computer will automatically find the street address for you!! Unless there are overlaps. Voila. Enjoy using the kiosk. And thank you for that helpful, friendly clerk. This location is pretty convenient and they open till 4pm on Saturdays! read more

Be careful who you ask in terms of passports...I went in looking for the appropriate forms for name change (they didn't have it on the shelf ) I ask why are the steps and I was told I had to renew my whole passport and pay $110. I mentioned that I had just gotten my password less than a year and she said I still had to pay $110. That information is actually incorrect and I knew it because I had already done my research. Was referred to go online print my form. So went to the post office for nothing. I much rather be told I don't know and wait for whoever specializes in Passports than be given incorrect information.
