I'm not sure why this location has bad review because honestly it's the most pleasant usps I've ever gone to. I run a small business so I go in frequently to drop off packages and Jim is the nicest person ever! He's always smiling and always says hello to everyone who walks in even if they're just dropping a package. I appreciate how attentive and kind he is because if I'm being honest a lot of post office workers are not like this (though they have good reason to be when so many people are rude to them). This post office location is the definition of 'good things come in small packages (no pun intended).' It exudes small beach town vibes. Jim is the solo employee and he is a gem! He is knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous to everyone. I enjoyed seeing the warm relationship he's formed with some of the locals. I would be a regular here too if I lived in the area. Cute post office, with some decent parking, conveniently located on the 101. Great location, cute little post office, but the Asian lady who works here has a real bad attitude. Very unhappy and has a lot of negative energy. If she can figure out a way that the customer can do her job, then she will. I had her weight and apply postage on several large envelopes. After the 1st envelope the postal lady was frustrated and instead demanded me to buy stamps and place the stamps on myself. It's sad that this post office relies on one employee. Maybe a change in employee would make this location much better. read more

Cute post office in Leucadia. There is a pull up drop off feature on the side of the building however beware as I bumped into the yellow post and damaged my car with paint and dent. Unclear if this feature is meant to be a drive up but there's no sign that warns about the post. Just fyi. read more

This tiny little place could almost be mistaken for an ice cream shop or something. It's painted with bright colors and is about the smallest Post Office location I think I've ever shipped something out of. The small size comes with both good and bad traits. Good because I don't think I've ever had to wait in a line when here. I've shipped many a packages in my day and nothing can be more frustrating than sitting in a 30 min line just to purchase some postage for a letter. You don't get that here. There's also always parking so overall it's pretty easy to get in and out this place. The bad is that there's only a few employees and sometimes they just close randomly because the attendant is taking lunch or something else... It's actually kinda funny. Overall though I agree that there's a certain sense of nostalgia here. It's like mailing your packages from some weird little museum something. read more

Should charm and nostalgia factor into a YELP review of a post office branch? Sure, why not? The other post offices around (Downtown Carlsbad, Aviara, Encinitas, Solana Beach - those are all so sterile, institutional and dull. I like going to Leucadia's because it is a step back in time, to when the post office was the town meeting place, where everyone knew each other. The building is old school, but it still works just fine. I don't know how long Randy has worked the counter but I'm guessing he's been there a long time. Sure, I wish it were open earlier than 10 am and past 4 pm during the week and I would prefer if it didn't close for lunch between 1 pm and 2 pm, and it would be really great if Randy could have a partner at the counter during peak times, but most of the day there isn't a line. If you have to visit a post office, I recommend Leucadia's. read more

Nestled in a cement building painted boldly in red, white and blue is the funkiest post office you will ever visit. Although the exact age of the building is unknown, postal cancellation stamps dated from 1908 exist to document the rich history of this building. History has been preserved and the original post office is still in operation, a reminder of days past when mail was brought to town by men on horses. Unlike today when information is accessible almost immediately, people would congregate at post offices to receive news of loved ones before the information age. Postal centers were popular places to catch up with the neighbors. It has so much character and charm yet people have gotten used to modern conveniences. This post office observes a complete shut down during lunch hour, shortened business hours and saturday closures. The parking lot is huge, no new buildings have access to that much property for parking. There are postal boxes available and the line is typically much shorter than other post offices in the area. I have no complaints about this little post office. I really hope they (USPS) stay open. It is the smallest post office I've seen in a city and I think it's got a little adorable charm to it. It's really not that hard to miss because it stands out from the parking lot. It was the first thing I noticed driving around when I first moved in the neighborhood. I've come in here a few times to buy stamps or drop off mail in the boxes. I've met the guy other reviewers thought was rude. Frankly, I think he's alright but he definitely doesn't bend backwards for excellent customer service. Who knows what his problem is. A lady works here on other days and she was definitely very nice and friendly. She even asked me which style/art I want for stamps. The guy usually just hands me the standard 40 cent stamps. It also makes sense for them to have an hour lunch break, I think these post office workers are still humans... I live just on the other side of La Costa in Carlsbad, and when I have searched online for a post office, I was always direct me to the one in Aviara. I am glad that I have discovered the Leucadia Post Office. Very small, lots of parking, much shorter lines and much closer to my house than the Aviara Post Office. This might be the smallest post office I've been in. They have a lunch break closure from 1 to 1:30pm everyday so the 1 and only worker can go to lunch. I happened to pop in to drop a package off at 1:02 pm. Greeaaat their closed for half an hour. So I went and grabbed a bite myself and came back around 1:29 pm. There was a line at the door about 10 people deep. I had one of those flat rate shipping boxes so I snuck past the line to use a self-serve machine. There was NO self-serve machines. Back of the line. I have to give the one and only clerk credit because she was killing it. Helping people non-stop BUT the post office itself was lacking. Don't come here unless you got time to burn. The only perk is that its tiny and quaint and adds to the laidback feel of Leucadia. I think it still would WITH a self-serve station. read more

I agree with Julie, it's dark, it's dingy, it's small. I can't help but love it. Dark means that I have to write my address on the package before I go inside, but it's also an indicator that their electricity meter isn't spinning furiously outside. Anyway, the post office isn't even open after the sun goes down and complete darkness hits. Dingy means that I make sure to wear shoes and would never use their bathroom {do they even have a bathroom?}. Dingy also tells me that less time and fewer nasty chemical detergents are spent cleaning and more time is spent making sure that my dvds get back to netflix in a hurry. It's small for sure. It's a three-man post office, total, for customers and employees combined. So if you're the third customer in line you get to soak up some rays right outside the door while you wait your turn. I like that, it's nice. It's conveniently located, rarely crowded, and fully equipped for handling basic postage needs. Their windows and front door are almost always open, and I love that. They don't process passports - who cares! There's not a postage-dispensing robot like at the Garden View post office, but what this location lacks in glitz and glamor it makes up for in good old leucadia charm. read more

This is one of the smallest post offices in SD I would imagine. If you blink you will miss it. Located inside a older square white and blue brick building with a red stripe for effect, on a corner next to the Leucadia Surf Shop. It has some PO Boxes and usually only one postal worker onsite. I believe it is one of the first post offices in the area. It kind of reminds me of a jail inside.....a little dark and dingy. read more

In the past, I've renewed my passport through the mail by going through the Postal Annex off of Encinitas Blvd, which is excellent. But I had a name change, and was informed at my appt. at Social Security, which was MUCH easier to get, that I should make an appt. to renew my passport at the Encinitas office, because then I wouldn't have to mail in my marriage certificate, I could just show my certified copy to the USPS officer. Well, I had to call and call and call, kept getting a busy signal for over an hour, solid. Finally, I got the number to ring 760-753-1415. It kept ringing and ringing and ringing, about forty times. A woman answered. I explained I wanted to renew my passport, and the reason why I was setting an appt. She said, you'll have to do that through the State Dept. I was shocked! I repeated, I want to make an appt. to renew my passport. She said, "Hold on Ma'am." Now I've been on hold for twenty minutes. I'm sure she just hung up on me, basically, by putting me on hold. I want to report this to the U.S. Postal Master, need to find out how. Very rude, and frustrating. I finally got through to a man who said I had to call a different number than the one on the USPS website for the Encinitas branch, an 800 that always gives the same message "All circuits are busy now, please try later." 800-801-9801. This is just unbelievable to me. This makes the process to get an appt. through Social Security seem like a walk in the park. Just hard to believe I can't get through to set an appointment! read more

NOT GETTING MAIL. NEIGHBORS GETTING MY MAIL. I GET NEIGHBOR'S MAIL. I lost my driving privileges, have to go to court, pay tons of money, and miss work because I never got a camera red light ticket in the mail. The only reason I found out I lost my driving privileges due to failure to appear in court for this ticket, in what I can only guess was another piece of mail I didn't get, is because my neighbor gave me my letter of suspension that she got. I opened a complaint in July and it hasn't done any good. They keep documenting it as resolved and I have to keep calling saying the problem is still going on. I spoke with the postmaster and his solution was to investigate the mail that's being put in my box. I asked him to instead hold my mail so I could actually pick it up and he refused. Worthless. I was mailing my daughter's Christmas gifts to Spain when the woman at the counter said my declaration form wasn't properly filled out. I then asked her why since I wrote toys and clothes on the label. She stated it needed to be more specific or else it would be returned. I then told her that I've mailed multiple items to Spain and have never had a problem in the past. At this point she got flippant with me and said well you don't know what you're doing. I've been doing this for 14 years and your gifts will be returned. End result. Nothing was returned and my daughter got her gifts as usual with no problem. read more
