Literally writing this review of how fun my postal worker was and when it came to picking out some stamps, I couldn't wait to photograph. Isn't he so cute all these manatees and being able to send out my letters have a little personality of this big boy floating to his next destination. Each and everyday I'm starting to appreciate my little neighborhood and how productive and efficient this spot is instead of going all the way to Downtown or Ala Moana or Kalihi this is my favorite spot to get my questions answered and packages delivered :) read more

Mailing a package... Something that we do rely on is with the USPS and they certainly do deliver and as I continue on with my errands this one seems to be one of the most challenging as they do make it easy with the kiosk and various methods available. The location is bit hidden as it's right across Marks Building in Chinatown but there are several metered parking which I though the stars aligned as I immediately found parking just right in front of the post office and just took it as a sign to get it done so that my friend in SF who sends me packages as well to keep I touch is something very priceless to me and am so grateful to have someone like this and the service her as well are great so friendly and helpful and there was no one here which made it easy as well. Special delivery... Sometimes, we need to communicate to our friends by means other than email and texting. I'm talking about snail mail. Yes... It is inefficient at times, but when friends live overseas, I feel like I need to make an extra effort to let them know that I haven't forgotten them. Usually, I'll send a Hawaiian calendar to my high school classmate in Arizona, my college friend in San Diego, my UH friend in New Jersey, my cousin in San Leandro, etc. They're all very dear to me. Long lines at the post office add to small hurdles to mailing these calendars. My wise mother suggested that I use this small post office on the edge of Chinatown... And she asked if I could mail some greeting cards for her... since I was going to the post office anyway... LOL! She's smart like that! Mom sat in the car (I parked in a loading zone) and waited for me while I ran into the post office. THERE WAS NO LINE!!! AMEN!!! The process was so quick and efficient! The postal clerk even found that mom had missed a card. It needed a stamp... Haha! Ok, mom... I got it! So... Mission accomplished! I highly recommend another post office. After the two recent front desk clerks left, it has become a toxic environment. I figure you pay good money, to get some type of proper customer service. But the local lady with the classes has really brought the client moral for pick ups down. Very rude, toxic behavior and they keep her there? To me if your in the customer care department you need to bring a comfortable personality. I'm not saying you have to be perfect. But you gotta build some type of relationship with your customers. It could be a simple Hi, thank you and bye. Not "oh it's you", or attitude like you own the place and the customers owe you some type of gratitude. Besides the parking being a frustration, she causes a huge line out the door. With a helper she hardly helps at all! But I hope in time she becomes better or goes to a different location to where someone can monitor and correct her behavior. I highly recommend Kapalama, such a wonderful environment and great customer care providers. Parking is also available with ease. I have nothing but positive results with this post office. I'm sure their are other post offices that are awesome. But I haven't experienced them. My experience with kapalama is 100 percent awesome. read more

Although this seems to be in older and smaller version of a post office, I appreciate the convenience and location. Unfortunately, there is no convenient parking unless you're willing to risk a ticket by parking in front on the street at curbside, running in taking care of your business, and immediately moving your car. The staff are great, very kind and helpful. I've been coming here for several years and have a PO Box here as well. I love how they remember pretty much everybody. read more

I was visiting a friend nearby and I had a package to mail out to my kids, so I was happy to see a post office nearby on my trusty Yelp app. This post office does not have a parking lot, you can park at the nearby Chinatown municipal parking lot (not free) and it's a short walk, or you can chance street parking. This is a very very small post office. The lobby can hold maybe about 8 people max. There was only one person working the counter at the time I went but she was very fast and very pleasant. I would not recommend this location if you are in a rush. If you work in the downtown area it's pretty convenient and people are friendly. They do have some Po boxes there for those who want their mail delivered to the post office. I would return if I'm in the area. read more

Ethan was so nice I was scared that I was gonna get one of the mean ladies. I tried to exchange my stamps that I got from Merchant St Kiosk but unfortunately I couldn't because of the inventory is different. I did buy love stamps. Then I exchanged it at Merchant after the manager had to get involved. read more

Not sure how to rate this post office. I normally just got in and check our PO Box. But I do notice the line is sometimes always long. The one time I did go there was no line. This post office does have SUPER COLD AC. I really just want to go in and bust out a futon and sleep inside. Especially if when its muggy out. Stepping in here is fantastic and great break. read more

I think this is the best post office besides kalihi Palama. The workers here are so nice and sweet and makes you feel welcome and help you no matter what. No irritated voice when your ask for help at all and this is my go to place when I have to send out boxes everywhere. It's convenient and that's y you need to be there early and or gets crowded with the neighborhood too. Keep up the great work and until next time. read more

I had to ship a package so I called to see what time they closed. Here's how our convo went: "Hi, what time do you close today?" "What do you need to do?" "Ship a box" (does it really matter?) "Okay we close at 5... well... ... 4:30" It's only a 3 minute walk away so I went at 4:00 to ship my package. I got there like 2 or 3 minutes past 4 and IT WAS CLOSED!!! The gates were down and everything! Pretty disappointed. I went the next day... but hello... i should have known they'd be closed on a saturday. Thank goodness this wasn't an urgent delivery. The next business day I went a little before 1pm. CLOSED FOR LUNCH. Really? Closed for lunch? How hard is it to have one person take lunch and have another person stay and work? I would think that the majority of shipping would happy during lunch if everyone is working. I guess it's my fault for not reading the sign better the first time.. or second time. I just couldn't believe that a place would be closed for lunch unless there was only one person working. When I came back a little before 1:30 (when they were scheduled to reopen) there was a huge mass of people waiting so I decided to go later in the afternoon. I finally went a couple hours later and it was empty so I finally shipped my box. The guy who helped me looked like he had nothing left to live for... pretty sad. If you could give half stars on yelp, this post office would be a 2.5 but since that is impossible, I'm politely rounding up. Until recently, a big part of my job was sending out an express mail package of documents once a week. The supervisor I did this for was extremely anal and always wanted detailed receipts, etc, and was initially insistent that I go in person to send it out. Until Christmas, the post office was usually pretty dead. No more than a couple of people in line. Of course, as mentioned by a previous reviewer, around any holiday season the place is packed. Of the three clerks I've seen work there, none of them seem very thrilled to be working for the post office and their dreary, go through the motions, attitude can definitely put a damper on anyone's day. The woman who works there definitely may not win a Miss Congeniality title but she's usually pretty competent as far as suggesting ways to save money on your shipments. She also seems to be the most knowledgeable of the three clerks I've seen there. If you have a home or office printer, you're probably still better off doing everything online and dropping it off at a post office if necessary. It's always cheaper (they give you discounts on all postal services as a reward for not clogging up the post office in person) and, especially near holidays, you don't have to wait in a clogged up line. read more

This post office is located in a small complex on Nuuanu Ave across Marks Garage. Although this branch is out of the way and kinda hidden, it is crowded at times. There are only 2 service counters. I like to go there since it is closer to where I work and usually I catch it when it's not too busy. There are PO boxes for rent and the PO boxes are open 24 hours. I avoid it during the usual postal congestion times like Christmas and Mother's Day. The lines usually extend out the door! A word of warning: If you are old, foreign, hard-of-hearing, slow, not sure of the postal forms required, not sure of how to send an item, etc. -- go there at your own risk. There is one guy there that is a big bully. He is very impatient and rude. read more

Are they nice? Not really. Do they follow the rules? YES. It's hard because I can't blame them for wanting to follow every single rule that USPS or the government has ever put out, but they don't have to be snobby about it. It's kind of like... they are being thorough, but they ENJOY finding reasons to make you pay more or to reject your package, even to reject your credit card. Standing in the long line, I saw at least 3 people get turned away for the way they wrote something, something didn't have enough tape, etc., and they get kicked out, like to the back of the line again. Once I had a package I paid for online and they refused, saying it was impossible because I paid for extra services and demanded I pay again. They called 3 different departments about it and I told them to call the main branch because they take these packages from me weekly. They did and then they reluctantly accepted my package but acted NOTEABLY butthurt about it and I almost demanded my package back because I feared for it's safety, they already hated it so much. Walk the extra few blocks and stand in the line at the Main branch, it's worth it. I really do appreciate this location (Uptown) whenever I have mail to ship that isn't allowed in collection boxes. This is because I've actually never dropped off mail or physically used any of the services at the Merchant Street (Downtown) branch, due to the long walk from my office and the fact that I really don't like how they have a tendency to do two drop-offs a day for our regular mail and packages (instead of consolidating all of it). Granted, Uptown is way smaller than Downtown, but it fulfills my postal needs and I've never experienced a long line here. I'm not sure if it's because people aren't aware of its existence, or simply due to the lack of parking. I always have prepaid labels on my stuff so it's just a matter of drop off and go. This is also a great location to pick up flat rate boxes for later use. One star off to account for the Monday-Friday "lunch hour." It's pretty weird and inconvenient. Can't the employees just take shifts instead of shutting down the customer service counter from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.? I come here pretty often since it is the closest one to my office. I think this is the worst post office but at a convenient location. Yes, they follow the rules but once it comes to more complicated problems, they are very incompetent. No matter how long the line is, it doesn't matter to them. They really don't care and take their time. And another thing is that the shipping gets delayed often at this location. read more

This is a wonderful neighborhood post office. After only a couple visits, the counter lady knows me by name. Avoid lunchtime when lines get long, and note that they close from 12:30 to 1:30. read more

I have been going to this post office for years since it's close to my home and work. THAT is the ONLY reason I go. It is VERY small and only has room for 2 people to work the counter. 90% of the time, there will only be 1. Because of this - always a line. It also rarely opens on time. I have been there on multiple occasions at 9am and waited 30+/- minutes for them to open. Ohhh but their lunch hour .... they close up shop at 12:30 on the dot and then again, take their sweet time opening up at 1:30. And don't think you're going to eek in under the wire before closing time, because once again, they will close up shop well before the actual posted closing time. I've seen many a different worker there over the years, but Mary always seemed to be the best. I've been in a couple times recently and that is what has sparked this review - it wasn't great before but tolerable, but wow, it's gotten worse. Still opening way later than they post. Still shutting down earlier than posted. With Covid they only allow 2 or 3 patrons inside at a time so now the line runs outside and down the sidewalk. And another added bonus - you go online and prepay for shipping, print out the postage, tape it to your box and head to the post office. Surprise! - doesn't matter that you did all of this to get out of waiting in line - cause you will still have to wait in line! About a month ago when I was there in the morning, they had a large rolling bin out front of the counter so you could drop your prepaid boxes/mailings in there and avoid the line - but today I went in at 2:30pm and NO bin. But as usual - only 1 person working the counter and A line. When I finally got to the counter and mentioned the missing bin ... he pretty much ignored me. So my advice: best time to go to this post office - between 10:30-11:30am. Hopefully the missing bin for prepaid items was just an afternoon fluke and it's still there in the morning? But knowing this place, probably not. Like another reviewer posted ... it's as if they take pleasure in making you suffer. IDK, but always prepare yourself to wait when visiting this place. Also, due to Covid they do not have flat rate boxes or any shipping/packing materials at all out on the floor like they used to. You will have to .... wait in line. Sigh. read more

Visited this post office twice on 24 December 2015. Only person there at just after 10:00 AM to pick up mailing supplies and returned about half hour to mail two priority packages. One person finishing up in front of me and about three in line behind me upon completion. VERY courteous and efficient clerk to make it a welcome experience. Plus, as mentioned elsewhere, it was very cool inside ...a big plus in our warm weather. read more

Post office is across the street from my apartment and I often come here to drop off my package at the counter. The staff working here are very friendly (maybe cos I'm a regular customer and don't ask too much questions). Only turn off about this place, is that there is no drop off package box unlike other USPS location. read more
