Don't ask me the last time I've purchased stamp as I'm not really proud of that though have done some making package the snail mail route has been quite little to none though I've been blessed to have received some that have truly made me smile and loved it as nothing beats a handwritten note. With that I decided to see what stamps they have available and love this Kalihi location since they do have some free parking making it very easy to stop and explore with lots of private mail found here along with desks to pack and write your items is nice. The retail section is nice as they have two staff working it very efficiently I was lucky to see that they had quite the selection of stamps available so I didn't have to explore the island to find something fun and unique. Whether you're sending or receiving mail it's always filled with joy and excitement knowing that you're thought of and thinking of someone for a reason and with the ease of their kiosk that I love to use it's available for all when they're open unless you have the code to enter the post boxes area. Was expecting delivery on Sunday, delivery person came by 130pm and left took the delivery with them went online checked saying "delivery attempt made" What Attempt? I was at home no one came knocking on door...security in lobby 24/7...Next day Monday I drove over to the post office HOPING I can pick up my delivery No Pickup Slip left in my mailbox from yesterday. I explained to the female at post office counter she checked my ID and delivery tracking # she went in the back came out says "nothing here" So I went drive to post office for nothing. So I called the post office around 11am no answer of course had option to leave voice msg so I did...someone called from postmoffice 12pm so I explained what happened yesterday and this morning, he then said I will have supervisor call u and he confirm my call back number. Monday afternoon 5pm No Postal Supervisor Called and nownthey are closed for the day. I met ipnwoth postal delivery person on the.lobby Monday after returning from post office but she was clueless lost in space lol. I asked the postal delivery person on Monday "do u have my delivery?" and she did not know what i was talking... and I gave once more tracking # and she texted it to postal supervisor. All I wanted to do was drop off a package that already had postage and she told me to wait in line or go drive to the back which she wouldn't give me directions to. This location is always buzzing! People, staff, packages, animals. You name it and you'll provably experience it while you wait in the loooong lines. I swear everytime I come wait times are 20 minutes or more. Short staffed, complex mailing issues, too many packages? No idea. Space is small and cramped so lines wrap around the inside pretty quickly. No quick ship option. PO boxes available. Limited supplies (boxes, tape, cards, etc) on the inside. All I can say is youre better off trying to go to another location that has more efficient service and can get you serviced quicker. Don't waste your time waiting. read more

This post office always has super long and slow moving lines. If you can go to a different branch, you will save yourself the stress. It reminds me of the long line for purgatory in Beetlejuice. I don't know why they have 1 counter completely dedicated to customs because people rarely seem to need that service. Expect to spend about 30 minutes to mail something here. read more

The Kapalama Post Office is the most convenient and closest to my mom's house. We selected this post office for my sister to mail herself some things that she couldn't fit in her luggage. We discussed the post office on Maunakea Street, next to Mei Sum. It has metered street parking and municipal paid lots nearby. We weren't sure if it was still doing business. We talked about the post office at the Airport. It seemed out of the way...even though the parking is free. We considered the Ala Moana Shopping Center post office since we were going there anyway. However, the line probably would be longer with more customers since there's a lot of foot traffic at the shopping center. Kapalama post office was a good choice because of the free parking and no other businesses attached to it. There was a short line that moved quickly since there were several windows open. My sister had printed out the shipping labels already, so the transaction was quick! We even got more Flat Rate boxes in case she decided to mail more things to herself... or if mom wants to mail care packages to my sister! Haha! Overall, it was a good choice and a great experience! My sister breathed a sigh of relief because everything went well and she got her tracking numbers!!! Yayyy! read more

I like this post office on King Street, across the street from the best saimin stand, Palace Saimin. The workers are friendly friendly and knowledgeable. While there, I heard one worker tell the customer that she could save about $5 by repacking her package in a flat rate box. The customer before me wanted to tip his worker because of the friendly service he received! When it was my turn at the counter, Nina smiled, gave me my different options for mailing my package and was super friendly and courteous! I came in to send a package to my boyfriends sister-in-law a few days ago. I totally forgot to bring my packaging tape (which i should just keep a spare in my car because i usually ship things off at this location). Anyways, parking may be limited but there's always a few leaving so that is good! The USPS office here is pretty efficient with how they operate: send "it" and exit. It's pretty self explanatory. I entered with my lovely HI collection of Starbucks cups to ship off (the SB HI COLLECTION IS BEAUTIFUL BTW) and I think her name was Sierra who helped me at her window. I literally had nothing prepared because i planned to just bring those boxes into the car and pack them right away. I was going to take 2 brown boxes but before leaving with them so i can pack my stuff, an employee tells me that it can't go outside but it needs to be paid first... i guess the brown packing boxes here are of charge & then you have to pay AGAIN for the total weight of your items. Sierra explained to me about the differences between the flat rate boxes and the brown shipping boxes. Flat rate boxes, the ones that are red and white, is free of charge and you can take it outside with you. They will only charge for the rate of the box being that it can only hold up to 70 pounds ! Great deal. Sierra recommended a large and medium for the cups because and in total, it costed about $38 which i think is worth it for about 15 to 20 pounds total. She was very helpful and even lended me packaging tape. She said that a customer left it and i did so too... just in case if anyone else would need to borrow some! A customer to the next window with her daughter overheard me say "keep the tape, I'm sure someone else will need it in case" and she commended about it hehe. I'm not sure why this location don't have a designated pre-paid postage drop off box. I've been to the Kahala branch ,Airport location they either have a wagon or a cut out in the wall to drop off your packages. This King St. location use to have a sign hanging from the first window pre-paid postage packages drop here . Even that said the person in that window is always grouchy and no customer service whatsoever. I go there and sometimes I have to wait until he or she acknowledges me because there with a customer. I don't understand why have a pre-paid postage machine than if you still have to wait in line . It's all about convenience. Today I had some packages to be mailed and once again it's all pre-paid postage I went to the 1st window and the lady there said just to let you know we don't have a drop off window anymore . So I replied so I have to stand in line from now on? She said yes but today I'll take it . What's funny this location closes at 4:30pm and if you have Pre-paid packages or mail you can go to a door and ring a bell. Than someone will open the door and take your package. I highly recommend they should just leave that window on that door open and leave a wagon bin there so customer can just drop the package in it. I really hope the postmaster is going to get this message so he or she can make changes or adjustments to service the customer better. Not to make it more inconvenient for us. Especially everyone nowadays is paying bills online or ordering on Amazon and majority of the time UPS delivers for Amazon not the United Stated Post Office. I hope that location finds a way to service customer better , if not there going to lose a lot of business. The worst usps branch I have ever encountered. The old guy that picks up our route is rude AF and don't want to do his job. Tells us his truck can't fit all of our packages. Ok, then take what you can, and he refused First of all, you're paid to do a job. If your truck doesn't fit then get a bigger usps truck. I've paid for shipping on all of our packages so don't complain to me about actually doing your job. Second, we had different locations and warehouses needing a pick up from USPS and never experienced this kind of laziness. I'm usually more understanding of USPS workers since they're doing an important job and it's not a particular easy job. So I understand and am very appreciative of all of our postal workers. This older USPS worker is on a whole other level with the laziness and attitude. I'm planning on speaking with this Branch's Postmaster in regards to this employee and based on the reviews of this place it seems like the Postmaster doesn't really care what the customer experienced. It's been three years since my first review. I would prefer to write an upgrade based on progress or improvement. That is not the case here but the issue is important for all to know that I write this update: My former tenant vacated my home in June of this year. She processed a change of address and as of today, I found the change of address had expired causing mail to be delivered to her old address. I wrote on the envelope "NO LONGER AT THIS ADDRESS PLEASE RETURN TO SENDER" with a current date. This same envelope gets redelivered to me!!! I go to the post office; ask for a manager who gave me some lame excuse that her change of address had expired, yadda yadda yadda! I pointed to my note on the face of the envelope and asked if my note (written in red mind you) was adequate and correct for post office handling purposes. He said "YES" . I then asked why the mail got redelivered to me!! Yadda Yadda Yadda! I end this review now, off my soap box and CAUTION anyone in the 96817 zip code to be careful on any mail delivery or change of address. This current visit to this post office was my third for the same reason. That should tell you something... they don't really know what they are doing! And I did speak to the Manager. It could also be that the 96817 residential area has no permanent carriers; just floaters. Not sure but it certainly seems that way. So... lesson to learn! This place steals. Do not take your mail here, drive to the next nearest post office and save yourself the trouble. I shipped a guitar out and had used a recycled guitar box that happened to be from a much higher end company. My guitar was worth about $700 or so. One of their employees likely saw the box and thought they were scoring a +$4k guitar. This Kalihi Post Office is falling apart and a total embarrassment! The Postmaster of this location has no pride and should be replaced. In addition, i went in this past Saturday 11/09/2024 a little after 9am and there was only one clerk working and the line was going outside of the building! The one supervisor I saw should have stepped in and manned the counter, instead he disappeared into the back office! The other worker finally came in about 9:40 am.....YES, I WAS STILL IN LINE! This place is always busy! Small too. But every time I go the customer service is really good. They take the time to explain my options for shipping and has helped me get a reimbursement for a package that didn't get to it's destination in time. The hour before it closes is usually the busiest especially on Saturdays. I wish it was a little bigger but it's an old building so I doubt they'll expand. My friend told me about this app called Poshmark where you can buy and sell your clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry. On a whim I downloaded the app, posted a few items that were collecting dust in my closet, and a few days later I had my first sale. Now what?! I haven't been to the post office in YEARS! I entered into the building (why are there so many doors here?) and lucky for me there was only one other lady in line. I'm next and I start out with, "I have a stupid question." The guy responds "There's no such thing as a stupid question." (. . . Yeah, I disagree) I explain that I have a pre-paid, shipping label and that I'm not supposed to use a "flat rate box." The guy was super helpful and explained that they keep the boxes that I need behind the counter so that people don't confuse them with the flat rate boxes. . . I'm not sure what the difference is. . . but I was SUPER happy because these boxes were easier to put together and come with a strip of adhesive on both sides. . . no charge. He scanned in my package and gave me a tracking number (and the app does the same). I was in and out in less then 10 minutes. He even gave me six extra boxes and wished me luck with my new business venture. read more

Being the last day to file your taxes, I procrastinated again and mailed 3 sets of federal returns earlier today. Being that one of them didn't have the option of e-file, I printed all 3 and came here to mail them out. As I arrived here shortly after 10am when this place opens at 9am, there was a long line and barely any parking spaces but luckily someone pulled out when I pulled in. I had all envelopes written and sealed to expedite the process and stood in line. There was a postal clerk who approached you asking what services you'll be needing today and marked it on a piece of memo. Being in an open area, you could hear everything being said and I was getting irritated by hearing the question of "Will you also be needing some stamps today?" I was prepared to be asked that question but sadly she didn't ask me that. I was planning to joke back by saying "I don't want fries with my Coke." The line moved quite quickly than usual and surprisingly, the service was decent today. The worst post office service ever. And I had 2 bad experiences with their personnel. One was back in 2011. I was still new in Hawaii and I needed help on how to send an envelope with important documents and I wanted it expedited. Their guy Japa0manager (YUP HIS ID SAID MANAGER) bluntly told me "DO YOU KNOW HOW TO FILL OUT A FORM?" rather than saying "Il be happy to assist you." Whether its in person or over the phone, they choose not to listen to their customer. I had the most horrible phone conversation with an employee named Ann. I called to ask where my order is because I was getting a vague message on USPS tracker. It wouldnt tell me if it has left the Mainland or if it has arrived in Hawaii. I figured that a USPS employee will be able to look into their system to track it down more efficiently. But I was wrong. The lady had to go the whole 9 yards by telling me the following: *Okay, picture this. How can a postman deliver an item if there is nothing for him to pick up from the post office? *Okay. Tell me do you know how to mail a letter? Come on tell me how you mail a letter. *Okay so youre expecting me to tell you where your package is? Gosh! Could anyone imagine how I was really trying to control my anger coz she had the audacity to get irritated and insult me coz she thought my inquiry was a joke. This place needs MAJOR management and staff reshuffling. If they hate their job that much, please do the Aina a favor and quit. PS USPS. This place is horrible!!! I don't know how can you be a supervisor if you don't now how to run things. I order online because I don't have time to go to the stores. I pay $76 to pay for my shipping just to have me pick it up from the post office when it's supposed to be delivered to my door. I have to come to that horrible place have to get an uber because I don't drive and getting a huge box is so hard to bring to the bus. I get there and their telling me that they don't have the box and it's getting delivered when they left a paper on my mailbox it says to be picked up also looked at online and it says available for pick up. What dumb ass system is that? And paying that much for me to have extra effort is so worthless might as well get UPS or FED EX because this POST OFFICE is a waste of money and time. Charge like they give you great service but all they do when you need help is says "oh i don't know!" I really don't understand why everyone has such a bad experience here. I am here almost every other day due to picking up packages from my online shopping addiction with wish.com. I know the post office workers here cringe internally when they see me because they know they're going to have to dig up my packages from the back from heaps of others. They always help me with no complaints and apologize that it takes time to find packages or that the IT systems are slow. I have to give this location a lot of credit, they definitely move that line that never ever ever ever seems to die down. I want to say for the state of Hawaii these are probably the most productive and efficient government workers. All the other locations gave me the runaround for information on renewing an expired passport and this location took the time to walk me through it step-by-step and helped me to bypass a wait in getting my passport by updating me with changes to passport policy. Everytime any package that is scheduled to be delivered on the weekends the LAZIEST mail carrier person leave the pink slip because apparently I'm not home but I saw this guy pull up to my building and doesn't make any effort to drop my package to my unit on the 3rd floor, on top of that USPS app is a waste of time as well. At all cost.........AVOID the Kalihi Branch! Very POOR customer service! I use to sell a lot on Ebay, and used the U.S. Postal service exclusively to ship all my items. Normally I would do my labels on-line with "click n' ship", but for some reason, this transaction did required me to go to a post office. When I went to the Kalihi Branch, after waiting forever in line to finally get to the counter, I was lucky enough to encounter a old man that had a very BAD attitude...........He came across like he wanted to feel superior over the customer, and was trying to lecture me on why I should have put my "delivery confirmation" tag a certain way on my package (horizontal by the delivery address). Instead of blowing up at him - since I probably blew my wadd waiting in the long endless line, I just wanted to finish up the transaction and get out of there. I let him stand on his "soap box" to lecture me on how I should have placed the "delivery confirmation" label on the package, & let him think that he was the KING, or Numba one know it all! The Post Master General should send a secret shopper to this location to inspect the postal clerks...............some of the postal clerks are in dire need to be retrained on customer service! If Yelp had a "No Star" rating..........the Kalihi Branch would definitely get a NO STAR! read more

Objectively, there's plenty of parking, the team is ALWAYS fully staffed (four people working the counters), the two separate times I've been here the staff were extremely friendly, helpful, and considerate (I forgot something in the car, and they held my place at the counter so I could go get it). They have PO boxes for rent, if you need that. They have all the same shipping supplies for sale, just pay at the counter. The first time I was here it was empty so I got helped immediately. The second time it was semi-full, but I was waiting for less than five minutes. Later the same day, I drove through Ala Moana and saw their post office and it was PACKED. ZERO STARS IF POSSIBLE. Out of all the post offices I've ever gone to on this island, this has got to be the worst. THE ASIAN LADY- rude, no customer service whatsoever. My packages tracking wasn't updated for over a week and I had sent with priority mail. It was clearly lost so I went to ask them to check the tracking number. She told me to wait 2 weeks and come back. Didn't even bother checking the tracking number. I went to Ala Moana instead where they helped me track it AND file a lost package form. Most post offices I've been to allows you to put the clip-n-ship packages on the counter or in a box where they will collect. THIS MAN, LECTURED ME. He said & I quote "UM EXCUSE ME MAAM. YOU HAVE TO DIRECTLY HAND THIS TO US. YOU CANT LEAVE IT HERE" and then he went on to say "AND NEXT TIME PLEASE PUT IN THE CORRECT DATE. THE. CORRECT. DATE. PLEASE." I printed the label off PayPal last night and they automatically selected the date for me. I told him this and he didn't care. He re-said his words in a tone as if I couldn't understand English. So I told him "whatever" as I left, I may have called him an a-hole that was loud enough for them to hear. That was unprofessional on my part, but this location NEEDS better workers. I recently signed up for a PO BOX as soon as I started my small biz, so I frequent this post office, since its the nearest to my house. Despite the holiday season, the service here is pretty quick - you go in at the right time & you'll be in and out in a jiffy. If I receive a package thats too large to fit in my PO BOX, they'll leave you a note in there stating to pick it up at the window - if there's a line, sometimes you can see a worker pull those picking up to the side door to pick it up. Service is usually great, theres this one guy who provides excellent customer service, and its always a joy to be helped by him. Sometimes, you get those where its just not their day, but we all have that, right? read more
