I do have mail I send out to friends on the mainland and using the USPS Priority Flat Rate Box always makes it so fast and easy to send as whatever fits pretty much fits is a set rate as the medium box max weight of 70lbs is quite hefty. With that the box also has a peel and stick closer on each end is a breeze to seal without any additional tape is the best way for me personally and don't let the size fool you as it fits quite a bit of items. All ready to go I had my parcels in the car and since I was in the area decided to find the nearest Post Office which was quite easy though getting in there if you don't know like I didn't is a one way entrance but as it was a mellow day it didn't matter as I walked in and was surprised how spacious it was loved that they also have the Self-Service Kiosk which makes it easy to ship printing out the mailing label as well so you don't have to write on the box. There's a chute there as well to drop your box in but for some reason it was jammed but luckily they were open so I was able to give it to counter clerk but since postage was paid it could've been dropped anywhere but love this convenient location in Kailua. INCOMPETENT! I tracked my order and got a message of undeliverable due to incomplete address. On the same day, I went to correct and complete the address, and maybe retrieve my item. I was told the carrier has not returned yet. So I gave them my corrected address, name, and phone number. Next day, check my mailbox, nothing. The following day after that, still no delivery. Immediately I went to the post office. Now check this out! They said the item is now in Honolulu, and I should contact them. I ask for contact information, clerk said he doesn't have that information. I went online and went to the USPS website. HORROR! My item now is in destination back to the sender. Later that day I went back to speak to the supervisor. She told me it was my fault that I didn't give the complete address in the first place. I stated that if the clerk followed protocol and all things would be fine. Supervisor then said her employee just forgot to do her job. In other words, we F up, and tough sh8 for you. Check this out. Supervisor ask if I got the name of the said clerk. I described in detail who she was, and also pointed to a person next to her that she was present that day. Supervisor then put on a big act like she just somehow didn't know who it was from a few employees at the front. They washed their hands from all responsibility after not doing what they are paid to do. They didn't do their job, and it's my fault! This place was great before, not anymore. read more

I got a notice from US Postal Service to pick up a prepaid bulk rate priority mail package, with an additional $32.00 charge. I drove down to our local Kailua Post Office and waited patiently in line to be waited on by a delightful clerk named "Kauwela" that was manning the entire 4 window counter by herself on a very busy Saturday morning. Her patience, professionalism and consistent friendly customer service, made my wait worth while. There were several customers in front of me that she treated equally with a friendly greeting, patient understanding and exceptional customer service. When my time to be served happened, I explained that I was here to pick up my package, showing her my pink slip that gave instructions to pay for pick up of my package. Kauwela quickly identified that the $32.00 fee was excessive, because the top flaps had a slight gap when taped together. She then removed the $32.00 fee explaining in detail how to insure this type of fee would not take place in the future by making sure the package is secured with flaps taped together without any gap. How refreshing and satisfying to receive caring, friendly and professional service as a US Postal Service Customer! I hope the Manager of this facility recognizes Kauwela for her commitment to providing exceptional service, going above and beyond her daily routine in treating each customer individually as her most valued customer! I had a frustrating experience trying to mail a prepaid package. On the first day, the self-service kiosk at the post office was unable to print my prepaid shipping label, so I had to go home and print it myself. The next day, I returned just to drop off the package, only to find that the kiosk area -- which also includes the package drop -- was closed at 7:00 PM, making it impossible to access the drop-off location after hours. After two trips and still no shipment sent, I'm honestly wondering whether it's easier to skip the kiosks altogether, wait in line, and handle everything at the counter just to be done with it. The limited access hours and unreliable kiosk made what should have been a quick drop-off much more inconvenient than expected. read more

I like this Kailua post office. The workers are friendly and efficient and it's rather large and the interior is nice. Sometimes the line can get long, but it moves pretty fast. On my way to target one day, I remembered that there was a post office next door. I had to pick up some stamps, so I swung over and parked in the lot. It doesn't seem like there are very many spots, but I've never had a problem parking here. I think there are extra spots near the exit if you can't find any in the angled stalls. The interior is nice and it's clean. There weren't too many people inside and I only ended up waiting a few minutes to see someone at the counter. It's pretty quiet inside and you can hear everyone else speaking. The usps worker was being so patient with a customer.... I felt a little bad for the worker. You can basically find all the usps info online, but I guess some people would rather come in to talk to someone. Right now they have the limited edition year of the dragon stamp. It's not as cute as last years, but I still wanted to get some. read more

I know it's kind of weird to write a review for a post office, but I kind of feel compelled to. Post office is one of those errands that I kind of dread. It's not a big deal, but annoying and stuffy, and long lines and the people working there are always grumpy and rude. Not this one! I got there shortly after 9 when it opened and got parking right out front. There was a long line, but it moved super quickly. There were 4 people working and all were super friendly and efficient. My delivery driver is incredible. Always brings stuff to the Porch or car port and hasn't once messed up delivering wrong pieces. His fill in though...different story. Can't be bothered walking past the entry way (I have a long drive way) even when gate is wide open, leaves stuff in the rain not even in a plastic bag, sticks neighbors mail in my box and vise versa... Mailing a box to my sister in Colorado shouldn't be such an adventure... however... I live and work in Kaneohe... why don't I go to the post office there? Answer: Because it seems smaller and more crowded than this Kailua location. More comparisons: Kailua's larger parking lot is an L-Shaped configuration. Kaneohe's parking lot is more limited and is a U-shaped traffic pattern. I read a few reviews about Dennis, one of the workers, at the Kailua Post Office. Even though Frank helped me, I still received courteous, efficient service! The wait was over 30 minutes because there were only two guys working at the counter. That's okay because it gave me time to catch up on email and other tasks. The two knowledgeable employees stayed calm and focused... they're awesome! (Side note: Construction noise wasn't pleasant. However, it didn't last too long.) All customers were patient and followed rules like wearing a face mask and standing at least 6 feet apart. I think in these times, people become more aware of our community and how to coexist in challenging situations. read more

Bought a "book" of stamps the other day. Didn't know that a "book of stamps" meant a few stamps on one piece of paper. The lady I had to buy them from was absolutely rude.It was fast to get in when I went because there was only couple customers. And no line behind me. So here I am- I'm being friendly and ask the lady (an Asian skinny older woman) for book of stamps. SHE Didn't want to help clarify what it entails, or what design is best for mailing and just bad attitude overall. Next time eat breakfast/lunch before you go to work. The customer service here goes above and beyond. Dennis and all the staff are helpful, efficient, and make the whole experience of going to the post office enjoyable. Sometimes the line gets long, but that's just normal for the post office in general. There's a self-serve kiosk as well, but I prefer dealing with a human most of the time. There are always ample supplies for Priority Mail and Express in the lobby, and the retail shop has an array of greeting cards, packing supplies and tape - everything you could need. I use this post office for my business. I typically can use the kiosk but there are times where I get international orders from retailers so I have to go inside. Today the line was long. Very typical of Kailua. No big deal. I waited until I got called by a local woman named Jeri. Everyone in there is usually nice. I would say Dennis is exceptional. But not everyone's style of customer service is like Dennis. When I got to the counter, I put my parcels on top and she began to grab one. She asked me some automated questions. Being that I was under the weather with bronchitis for the last week...all I could say is that I typically send the parcel with tracking on it. She then began confirm that she understood then said "what I said was" and then she said her automated spiel again. Anyways we moved on from that embarrassing moment for me and onto the next one. As she began to put postage on my parcels I informed her that I'd like to take photos of them. I grabbed one and directly held my phone over the top of it getting only the parcel. When I went to grab the next one she informed me that she wanted me to move my parcel in the opposite direction of her and take a photo and make sure not to get her in it. She pointed in the exact area and direction where she expected me to do this. Mind you I didn't take a photo of the parcel in her direction at all. I told her that she was not in my picture and that it was a direct photo of the parcel. Then she began to repeat herself again like she did originally. I swallowed down my pride as people were standing in a long line waiting and did as she instructed me. I will not allow her to help me in the future. And I did follow up with a rating on the postal website. I work in customer service and I get it. But maybe Jeri should work in a different field. read more

Came here to return a package from an online order and they refused it, said I had to print the label and repackage it myself (this should be their business, I am not a post office). Whats next, did they want me to deliver the mail myself? Person looked at me as if they've never heard of an online return before, which have been standard for years. Also, on another occasion, the guy behind the counter warned that I should 'keep my receipt' because sometimes they 'loose packages'. This is the most corrupted post office ever and never again would ever want not one thing coming thru here. Yeah i get it the military is a problem. They saw the perfect opportunity to screw me so they did. So yeah i had to open my mouth. They left me no choice. They thought they could hind my shit and literally went on Instagram live because I know the cops don't do much but they do show up here because Kailua.. I was almost at the point of calling them just because they were literally breaking the Law by holding it. I have two names because I got married in Covid. The state changed my name, but SSI is still working on it. both of this was in the paperwork. It was no bullshit. but then.... MY ID THAT I WAITED TWO MONTHS FOR AND COST ME WELL OVER 10,000 dollars and our savings randomly showed up at my dads house a year later? Like THEY WERE HOLDING IT! They also purposely sent back my tax information, knowing that's exactly what I was waiting for when I was closing out the box. Dont worry i still got it, just sent back and forth a few times. I would have everything signature required tracking. I also call out every-time they do this crap to you. Im not your every day outsider. I am well respected in my community. This review has been long overdue for sure as I have mixed feelings about the post office and the saying "going postal". Imagine Jerry Seinfeld saying... "what's the deal with the post office?" Most times when I go to any post office there is usually a line and at the end of the line there is a worker who probably is on the verge of going "postal." Yes, i said it and it is probably true. I would go insane as I would be like a robot answering the same questions day in and day out. Seeing the same faces who probably ask the same question that I answered yesterday. But this Post Office has at least one shinning star by the name Dennis. He is like the Energizer bunny on steroids. I don't think I've ever seen him without a smile on his face. He is always happy to see his customers no matter how many times he has to answer the same questions and try to inform them why they should use a flat rate box over their packaging. He is a rock star in my book and I wish he was located in the Honolulu one that I go to as I don't go down to the Windward side post office as much as I used to. They have everything from P.O. Boxes, a self-service kiosk to mail out your mail. Imagine that, you can actually do this yourself instead of standing in a long line. I still don't get why more people don't use this. What I like: fast service, helpful employees (especially Dennis, aka Mr. Nice Guy), their Automated Postal Center, plenty of shipping supplies always available Not so much: congested, crazy busy parking lot, always a line at the counter. (BTW, the "overflow" lot on the mauka side--formerly Don Quijote's--is no longer available due to construction.) The USPS tried to ease the pain by opening a contract postal unit across from the library a couple of years back, but so far no dice. I would have given a 4 but after reading an unfair review from someone who doesn't know the business I went with a 5. I had an issue with my PO box and 2 lost packages. That was inconvenient, and time consuming. However the Post Office manager painstakingly searched to discover where my packages were. By process of elimination, it was discovered that the key had been put in the wrong PO box. Well I can understand people make mistakes, especially when dealing with so many details. But I was still feeling very distraught because I really needed the items. Dennis reassured me that when these things happen sometime people bring the package home before they discover that it is not addressed to them. The last time I was in this PO the clerk was curt and rude and clearly did not enjoy his job. And just now I tried to call their number at least four times and each time the phone just rang for minutes until it just hung-up and when I immediately called back it was busy! Clearly the people there simply ignored the phone when it was ringing and then promptly took it off the hook to keep it from ringing again. The whole crew, including the postmaster, should be fired and replaced with more competent people who are interested in keeping their jobs by doing it well. read more

They lose mail. Not sure what else needs to be said about an organization whose sole purpose in life is to deliver mail. "Out for delivery" for this place means "I have no idea where your package is at, sir". When I went to the Post Office yesterday to discuss, I only had to wait 30 minutes for the manager to come out. When she did, she chose to take care of someone else that just walked in instead of talking to me. Classy. I tried calling them today. One way to ensure you do not hear the phone ring is to take it off the hook. I can't imagine someone being on the phone for the hours I tried to call. All this said, I did get to stand next to Dennis for the 30 minutes wait. He is very pleasant and calming to listen to. If only everyone there had the customer support mentality he has. Now, to find a way for Amazon to never use USPS again. While three generations of my family gave loyal service to the Post Office, it will not pain me one bit to see them fully go under. Oh yeah, while not specific to this post office, not really sure what submitting a change of address form is good for. Maybe 20% of my mail gets forwarded to the right address, most of the rest gets sent back to the sender. Again, the Post Office is dying and I could not be more anxious for it's demise. read more

PROs...this post office has 3 diferent areas to assemble and put your packages together so you're not in everyone's way. It also has quick service...almost everytime I go in, there is a long line, but since there is usually 3-4 people assisting at the counter, it moves pretty quickly. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 10 minutes in line on their busiest day. One employee in particular, is the asian employee named Dennis s awesome! He's sooo nice and he demonstrates the epitomy of what customer service should be! CONs...I don't like the parking lot structure, they need a bigger one. Their first row of parking spots in front of the building is an accident waiting to happen since so many cars pull in too quickly from the street. You also can't really see if they're coming up behind you in the first row of parking spots. read more

I come here at least once a month. I belong to an online book club (paperbackswap.com) where members send each other books they no longer want. Consequently, I'm a whiz at using Media Mail to ship these books. The staff at the Kailua Post Office have been helpful. I don't wait more than 10 minutes in line. They'll let me know when a book is better off shipped by regular mail instead of media. If you use Media Mail, it costs less to ship but takes almost a month for the item to arrive. My favorite staffer at this post office is Dennis. He's a skinny local guy with glasses and a mustache. He is one of the nicest people you'll meet. So chatty, patient and helpful. He has a running commentary on a lot of things. I enjoy listening to him. He should have his own program on Olelo. There's also another helpful person though not as talkative as Dennis. I forget her name, but she looks like a middle aged Asian American Rebecca De Mornay from "Risky Business". I'm surprised at the three stars for this place. I've had only excellent service. I'm grateful to have such a wonderful USPS office in my neighborhood. Keep up the good work! read more

However, going through past reviews, it seems as though everyone is reviewing the Kailua, Oahu location instead. They are located right behind First Hawaiian Bank in the Lanihau Shopping Center. I actually really like this Post Office because their parking lot is fairly spacious and doesn't get overly crowded (well, not to me anyways). The people behind the counter are pretty nice and they really try to help you by answering your questions thoroughly. I recently found out that using a flat rate box to the Philippines would be like $50 or something like that (depending on the size). I'm glad that I inquired before-hand with the woman behind the counter because a steep price like that isn't something you wanna find out at the last minute. She basically explained that the flat rate boxes are better for heavier items and that I would be better off just using a big brown box because it would be cheaper. read more

Recently I've noticed a lot of new clerks at the Kailua Post office. While I have no complaints, I can't include them in my review just yet. Kailua post office is great - as long as YOU know what you are doing. We frequent the PO for shipping ebay orders and always have our ducks in a row. However, we will get different quotes for the same shipping from different clerks which can be very frustrating. I've even written to the USPS about this in the past. So make sure you know what you want. And it's best to come prepared and ready before you get in line. read more

Those priority mail boxes are a joke. If you pay for the (very inadequate) tracking information, you will see it takes two days just to get from Kailua to the Honolulu transit station. Then on to the Continent? Count on another week. I like all the employees at the Kailua Post Office, but the system they are working in is not efficient. Better to go to UPS or FedEx. read more

I love coming to this post office there is an incredibly friendly man that works here and he is always the highlight of my trip. He is always so cheerful and willing to help you get the your packages shipped for the best price. I frequent this post office even though my PO Box is at another location.
