Closest one is Lanai Food Court or in Macy's department I'm impressed with the efficiency and professionalism here. It's great that there are online appointments for some purposes. Super smooth experience renewing my car registration today. I never got the renewal notice in the mail, so I stopped by the Satellite City Hall at Ala Moana. Got there a few minutes before they opened at 9 a.m., and there were already seven people in line but I was back in my car by 9:15. Heads up: Their website tells you which services need an appointment and which don't. And don't forget to bring your current registration, ID, and a valid safety inspection report. Beats mailing in my payment and waiting for my registration sticker by mail. Everything is printed and ready to go in the spot, Located in the Ala Moana Center on the 1st floor, Macy's side in the old American Saving Bank unit next to the escalator or next to Assaggio. Parking is mostly free, depending on where you find parking, but nothing like a nice walk around the mall if you parked far. Before getting to the doors, a greeter will be at a podium asking what your name of business is and will direct you to the correct line to get your business done. The hardest part of coming here is finding parking! I circled like a vulture for 10 minutes. I have a disability placard so I am lucky a disabled parking opened right up across near them. This was about 1:15 pm-ish on a Wednesday. But timing is everything. They're right makai side (across the park) between Macy's and the now closed Nepal/Indian joint. Lower concourse leads to the food court and you old timers -- same level where Patti's Chinese use to be. Aahh the 70's! Escalators from lower level and to upper level right by. ( if I knew would have parked lower level). This use to be American Savings Bank many many moons ago Kinda confusing cuz there's a "concierge" (us hotel folks call it the bell/valet stand) and it reads "appointments check in here" and then below it "STOP". And I was doing a car reg.renewal which doesn't need an appointment per their website. But I dutifully STOPPED. Clueless Idiot before me had all kind of questions, something about late person's car transfer. I saw the death certificate. (I'm so old I know how they look like ) "Concierge " kept going in/out the office so many times for him. An old man came and went directly in their office as I was thinking I should go in too but he was kicked out a while later (haha you sneaky Pete). Anyway clueless idiot took a long time and he went in. I didn't see behind of me but now there was a long line. So I got in but others had to wait outside cuz the lobby is really small by the clerks. I was #6 in line. OMG there were 2 wahines - one seated on the far left, the other at the clerk on the right - - I think one was telling her whole life story (I eavesdropped small kine) and the other was probably trying to register her car from the middle east?? No, joking. They were there before and after me. Holy moley! I had all da right papers ( as "concierge" reviewed them) and I was outta there. Took maybe 1/2 hour or so...but had long line afters. Timing and clueless idiot is everything. Clerk was okay. I understand it's a tough, thankless job so thanks to them. It's a nice space unlike Kapalama which is a zoo --but with super super nice workers, I like Kapalama's staff. But the sheer number of the public is too too much. Getting a State ID Card in Honolulu, Hawaii... If you need an identification card, make an appointment online and make sure to bring documents with you and a completed form. I don't have a printer, so I went to the most convenient Satellite City Hall with free parking. Ala Moana Center has covered free parking on the Ground Level! Located between Himalayan Kitchen and Assagio's, this Satellite City Hall is next to the escalators. It's tucked away in the corner and doesn't look like anything - until you see the line of people sitting outside and waiting for their turn. (Inside, it's bright and air-conditioned. There's some information on the wall, but not a State ID application. Outside is a bit noisy with passing traffic.) I asked the woman at the check-in stand for a State ID Application Form. She gave me a Driver's License form. When I brought it to her attention, she had to go inside for a form. When she came back out, she tended to a few people before my turn arrived. Came here to submit passport applications. I made the appointments online. There were a lot of openings available. I like that this location is very convenient and has lots of parking. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a young woman outside. She asked if we had an appointment and what we were there for. After that, she directed us into the office. After a few minutes, we were quickly helped at a window. While the passport acceptance process seems to be a little on the lengthier side, she was very quick in processing and accepting the applications. Convenient Sattlelite City Hall located in the Ala Moana shopping center Makai side next to Assagio. After work I decided to stop by the Sattlelite City Hall to get a passport application for my wife and I .I had a passport many years ago and I Let it expire like dummy lol . It's good to have and kept in a safety deposit box when ready to travel anywhere internationally at least you have a passport. Since everyone I know is traveling to Japan I'm definitely going to Japan in the near future once I have my passport. When dropping off your passport application at the Sattlelite City Hall you need to make appointment with them along with your birth certificate and a personal check for payment. To obtain our passports - the absolutely most efficient process I've ever seen. Especially since it was a Friday at lunchtime. Located on ocean side of Ala Moana Center, ground floor next to Assagio's Restaurant where the koi pond is. These were the steps we took to get in and outta there fast. Made an appointment online and filled out the application BEFORE our appointment. At our appointed date and time, we stood outside of Satellite at a little hostess stand which says to "wait here." Young man was very nice and checked us in. He also made sure we had already correctly filled out our application. He then directed us to wait around the area until we are called. We sat at the Koi pond for maybe 5 minutes. Same young man called us and directed us past his stand and said we could now wait in chairs in front of the Satellite. Oooh we're getting closer! Then after 2 minutes he said we could enter the Satellite and sit on chairs on the left side. He said the women behind the desk would help us shortly. The woman called us up to her desk after 5 minutes when she was pau with the other person. We were able to start our passport in motion and said it would take up to 3 weeks. No standing in line this time, no long waits- very seamless process to obtain a passport. read more

Amazingly convenient location and fast service. It's located on the ground floor in Ala Moana Center makai (ocean) side near Macy's toward Diamond Head (at the east end of the mall). Plenty of parking around 9am before most shops open. Depending on the service, some only take walk-ins and some offer appointments. I arrived at 8:45am on a weekday and there was a line already outside the office before they opened. There were 6 people ahead of me. However, at 8:55am the workers opened the door to let people in. Some were directed to the walk-in line inside, and some went to the appointment desk at the front. I was here to renew my car registration and I was out the office by 9:15am, so the whole thing took less than 30 mins! I can't say for other times, but weekday morning is not a bad time to come in. After I went inside to stand in line, there were only 2 more people coming in after me, so I'm thinking maybe it wasn't necessary to arrive before they opened in order to shorten the wait. I might be ending up with less wait time if I got there after the rush of the early bird crowd. The staff were courteous and efficient. Update 2-18-25. I needed to renew my handicapped plaque so I made a appointment on line so got there and the person who checks you in ask questions to me and I said no not first time then she said you need to mail in the papers and they mail the new one to you. I said i thought since the paper from the doctor is good only for 30 days from when they sign it I came down she said no you have up to 180 days from when the doctors sign it and still be valid. I Thank her and said I didn't see anything on the renewal application what she was telling me about the 180 days part being valid. Unless I missed somewhere on the paperwork. Well if you renewing your plaque make sure you mail it in with all your paper work. Other than that said that person outside who checks you in was very pleasant and friendly. read more

I came to satellite city hall after work one day to pay for my car registration. I did not get my emblem in the mail, so had to go down in person. They are located next to Assagios at the bottom of the escalators. You don't need an appointment for car registration, but you will need to wait in line. As any other satellite city hall, they had very little personality and it took quite a while to print up the registration. They also charge a fee for another decal. I hardly ever need to go to satellite city hall, but it was not bad considering I did not have to wait a long time. read more

Interesting system - it produces exactly the results it was designed to produce. Which is to say, not great. For example: You call the main number and it tells you to call two completely different numbers, read really fast (hope you can remember them) for different services. Whereas any good phone system would say "press 1 for x and press 2 for y". This (remember the separate phone numbers nonsense) just screams "we don't want you to call us". All you can do is laugh. You go on hold and they play the most nail-on-the-chalkboard irritating music they could find with nasal, whiny, annoying tones. The kind of music that forces you to reduce the phone volume and makes you want to hang up. But you hang in. All you can do is smile at the consistent theme. Finally, you go into the office to register a vehicle - the place is empty. You have three customer service agents doing absolutely nothing - and they tell you to make an appointment - for a routine service - because they don't do walk-ins. You ask if anyone ever cancels their appointments (in the hopes a more timely appointment might open up in the system) and they respond that they have "lotsa no-shows" but cancellations are rare. Which is great if you want "lotsa down time" for the customer service agents. After getting an appointment on your cell phone - you note again - the place is empty and the agents are doing nothing. You have your paperwork and money ready to go - so you logically ask - could we just do this (car registration) now? You note that if anyone were to come in there would still be at least two agents to help that person - so there is no systemic downside - I mean assuming anyone was concerned about other potential customers. The response is naturally "come back in four days for your appointment - you can't be seen without an appointment" - and they resume the nothing they were doing. Interesting system. Recently visited the Satellite City Hall location in Ala Moana Center. Was assisted by the friendly and helpful concierge at the entrance "Delcee". Although I didn't have an AlohaQ appointment, she expertly directed me to wait on the side until the long line dwindled down to a few customers. When my turn finally arrived, I was then directed to "Cheryl", the DMV counter clerk. She helped me in getting a duplicate title for a car title that I had misplaced years ago. We had an appointment to add an additional person to our car title today at the AlaMoana Satellite City Hall. An asian lady by the name of Teri helped us. She was very abrupt with limited people skills. First of all there were 3 of us. My father in law, husband and myself. When called over to her desk, there were only three chairs, and the three of us. I pulled a chair over that was nearby and she rudely told me to put the chair back because it was for other people waiting, or to go outside and wait. I understood that the chair I pulled over may possibly be for others to use, but so abrupt and rude. There's much nicer ways of conveying a message to someone, then being downright rude!! I was told that she's worked there for over 20 years. I honestly could care less if worked there for 30 years!! Horrible and rude!! I actually decided to walk outside and wait, since I wasn't sure if I could hold my tongue back from ripping her with my words!! She definitely has worked there too long, and needs to retire! Teri also was coughing and shouldn't be at work assisting people. Hopefully her boss reads this and reminds her, that being professional, cordial and helpful goes a long way. As a regular at Ala Moana Center and a resident of the Kaka'ako - Ala Moana neighborhoods, we received notices of the relocation of the Ala Moana Center's Satellite City Hall in early-January 2021. Their move from the mountainside next to Barnes & Noble Bookstore into the former American Savings Bank at the Oceanside of the Diamond Head Wing was completed before the Martin Luther King Holiday. This Satellite City Hall manages appointments for services that include registering vehicles, transferring vehicle ownership, and paying property taxes. All services also are offered online or by mail, or at a self-service kiosk for renewing vehicle registrations. Due to current pandemic safety guidelines, all services are only accessible by appointment only. You can book your appointment online through www.alohaq.org. We stopped by to check out this new location a couple of times before their reopening and again the day after MLK Day. Both times, we were met and stopped by a friendly worker who asked if we had an appointment. We did not have an appointment as we admitted that we were just being curious at this time but will certainly make plans to take care of the City services in the future. However, peeking into this spacious new location, we could see how they've beefed up their safety precautions since the announcement of the more virulent COVID-19 variations. Make sure that you wear your face mask and practice proper social distancing while standing in line for your appointment. City and County of Honolulu Satellite City Hall at Ala Moana mall. 5 stars - depending on time of day you visit, ample parking if you arrive at 9:00am. 2 stars - Signage for express lane should be made larger and posted higher than chest level as when you first arrive it's hard to find with everyone standing around. 2.5 stars - wait time, this was using express lane at 9:00am. Only one window dedicated to express lane with another window available between reservations. Some of the public are idiots who use the express lane but take up lots of time, clerks should be more strict and should turn them away. Example while I was there idiot man in suit was at window for a long time while other window clerk processed 4 other people. 1 star - City and County of Honolulu, in lieu of offering no fee on using credit cards, now change to charging a fee of 2.5% + $4. So C&C have to hire people to handle checks, cash, mail which cost the City more than 2.5% fee. 1 star - Not really to do with City but State charges $7 beautification fee when you renew vehicle registration. Our highways don't look beautiful, lots of weeds, rubbish, stones that can hit windshields, banyan trees growing from the side of road overpasses, faded signs, no signs, faded traffic markings, stickers left on signs, graffiti, etc. 4 stars - clerks are pleasant and seem to be knowledgeable. Overall - 3 stars, as could be worse when comparing this to Building Permit division. read more

Two US Passports!! It's so difficult to find an appointment for two at or near the same time. Got lucky and so glad we went here. We waited a little over a month for the appointment date. We arrived 15 minutes early with our paperwork in-hand and fully completed along with all the necessary paperwork and our checkbook. Service was super- checked in, she told us where to stand, etc, we followed all the directions, it was painless, efficient and quick! Out of the various satellite city halls I chose the Ala Moana one even though 2 are closer to home. There was a security guard as you entered the line. Luckily the line was not out the door. There were several open windows but fortunately one woman closest to the cashier scanned through the line and asked people to line up at her window against the wall. That helped the line move quickly. I saw one woman with the same customer my entire wait. I was glad I ended up having that long haired lady help me as she went through the line to the end and I was next at the front. She was very kind and told me to have a seat as she processed my application. Very glad I decided to come here. Check first before you come what they handle. I think I saw a sign that said they don't process driver's licenses or something like that. Also bring cash or your check book- as a plastic carrying gal I almost panicked that I didn't have enough cash with me plus my checkbook never leaves home. read more

Easy to locate; just park behind on the Macy's side upper level (always got open spaces compared to the street level parking under it), go down one escalator, and it's right there to your right next to the Himalayan and Assagio's restaurants.
