I went to La Costa Station Post Office a few weeks ago to submit my passport application and I had such a disturbing and unpleasant experience that the very same day I filed an official complaint with the Postmaster General. The passport clerk was the rudest and most condescending post office worker I'd ever met - answering my questions sarcastically, telling me I "made a mess" with my signature, and many other unsavory comments. As a result of my complaint, the post office manager called to apologize, but listening to her, I didn't feel like that would make much of a difference. I came in five minutes before closing to pick up an Express Mail package. The line I needed to go was almost non-existent but the regular check out line was a different story. At the very end of that line was an lady with unhappy disposition. She wasn't wearing a uniform so one would have never guessed she was a USPS employee. She would get snappy and rude with anyone that came in. 5 stars for the gentlemen that helped me out. 1 star for the rude manager at the door. I get it.. You are tired, hungry, and had a long day. All you want to do is go home. I completely understand. BUT.... You pacing with your arms crossed and making comments does not help. It isn't professional nor is it going to make the line go faster. Negative 5 Stars. WORST POST OFFICE IN HISTORY. Yes, I wrote a 1 star review last year and I have to write another. Packages of mine are forced to come through this post office and about 25% of the time they are lost totally. I have lost SO MUCH MONEY because these f-----g idiots mark a package "delivered" when it has not been and there is no recourse. I am going to do everything in my power to re-route all my mail through another location. This is so absolutely horrible I'm sick on the stomach. I bought over a thousand dollars worth of car parts online last Thanksgiving. The parts were shipped in two boxes. The bigger ine containing the more expensive parts never arrived. I worked with Tony as this post office for 10 months. The last 3 months he ignored every email. I filed insurance claims that all got denied even though the package was insured for $900. I went in and asked to speak to him about two months ago. He told me there was nothing more they could do. I won't get my parts back, i won't get the insurance money back. the United States Post Office disgusts me. Impossible to speak to them on the phone, don't answer emails, and when you see them in person they say they can't help. I'm out over a thousand dollars and they have nothing to say. I refuse to use USPS any longer. One day when I was speaking to Tony a man waiting in line behind me told me they had also "lost" a package he was receiving that had vintage gold coins. He threatened the post office employees, telling them their personal addresses and the names of their children. He got his coins back a couple days later. Thieves, crooks, any term that is negative describes this location. Give me my money or give me my "lost" package, or I will continue posting these reviews on every website possible. You mail carrier is so RUDE! I want to request a new mail carrier for my neighborhood! I just happened to be doing some work outside. I approached our mail carrier so he didn't have to place the mail into my mail box and when I asked what his name was so I can thank him whenever I see him, He asked me "Why" and threw me my mail and drove off. I am in disbelief that you would hire such rude carriers to work in the neighborhoods when they have to interact with people on a daily basis. My pervious mail carrier was so nice. I got assisted by Mr. Grinch himself. I came in to the post office around 10:15 am on Tuesday December 23rd. I had 2 packages to mail out and a question inquiry about a package I had mailed out on Friday the 19th. As I was waiting in line, Mr. Grinch comes out from the door asking if anyone was paying with debit/credit and that he can assist. He looks over the age of 45, maybe 50's. Salt and pepper facial hair. He looks at me so I ask him about my package, it had no update on USPS.com since the 19th, I had sent it priority 2 day mail with tracking. I follow him to the side computer, while he looks up my tracking. He then tells me it's not a guaranteed 2 day ship, and that there's nothing he can do. He advised to give it a week. I understand USPS is backed up with holiday shipping, but to not be helpful and not explaining anything was bad customer service. I then ask him about shipping my 2 packages. HE TELLS ME TO GET BACK IN LINE or use the self serve machine. (Both self serve machine were occupied by people who were shipping out post office boxes of giant white envelopes btw) Really?! He said he didn't tell me to get out of line in the 1st place. The line had doubled. Mr. Grinch could have helped me, but he didn't. The only reason there's 2 stars on this review is because of the next postal worker who helped me. I got back in line. Once I got to the front, I was assisted by a nice lady, shorter blonde tipped hair (on my receipt it says she is clerk #13). I asked her about my package I had shipped out on the 19th. She proceeds to explain that even though there has not been activity since the 19th, the next post office might not have scanned it in yet in Idaho (that's where I was shipping to), and to check on it regularly because 5,000+ package go in and out of the post office daily during the holidays. THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING. I wish I could have given her a hug. I will be shipping UPS or FedEx next time. read more

Well they just lost another star. I was totally treated in a rude fashion when I went there to renew my passport. The lady told me I needed to rebook an appointment because I forgot to bring my original birth certificate with me. This was ridiculous because I just got there and I live like two minutes from the post office. I had plenty of time to return during my appointment time slot with said certificate in hand. As a side note the next available appointment was like in 3 weeks. So I am going to a different post office that could get me in earlier. Hopefully they will be a little nicer. read more

Janice, the woman working there was extremely rude!!! It took me a while to write this review as I am very busy but I set my receipt aside and took her name down. I am writing you ONE MONTH later! That's how terrible she was. I walked up to the register after waiting in line for my turn and told her I needed to send out a package and asked her which packaging would be neat to purchase. She pointed to the tape and told me to use the same packaging it came in.. and to tape it shut. Then she just walked away. I taped the package .. which took me all of 20 seconds and waited for Janice to come back.. she never did. This is extremely rude and unacceptable.... The post office itself is nice. The people at the counter are nice... once you get to the counter. Getting to the counter is the reason for 2 stars. Every time I go here I swear to myself that I will NEVER come here again. That's a good 20 plus minutes of swearing you would think I would get it by now. Obviously I am a slow learner. There are very nice people working there and I've only had good experiences when I needed something explained it worked out. The only drawback is that they are very slow. Especially when there's a huge line it seems that they get extra chatty with only two cashiers open. I hope they can fix their methods of scheduling or retrain for faster service. For the amount of traffic that this post office got I'm very impressed they kept the line moving along. The best part was there was one designated member walking around ensuring everyone there was helped and questions were answered. I thought that was very helpful! Also they have 2 self-serve kiosks. Be advised you cannot purchase items like packaging tape or greeting cards on the kiosk but you can do everything else. Don't go around lunch time...it was crazy Busy! read more

What a friendly Post Office!!! I stopped in to drop off my package to ship to my brother in law oversees. Although I had my package already paid for I still had to wait in line because I needed to have the customs form reviewed/approved and attached. I was in and out in a flash. They clearly had extra staffing to accommodate the influx of holiday mailers. I appreciate them making this extra effort to make my experience a comfortable one. I rarely go to the post office but this one is kept clean and the staff is helpful. I like that they have some one asking people in line what they need. How did I not know about this post office?! I had attempted to find this post office so many times, and finally after talking to a friend, I was about to track it down. Side note: it is behind the shopping center by the Vons. I was shipping some items right after Christmas, literally the day after. There were quite a few people in line, but the attendants were very attentive and fast. My experience at this location was overall very enjoyable, which usually isn't always the case at a post office. The location is pretty large and also very clean. Every worker we came in contact with at the La Costa post office was friendly and professional. We were especially impressed with Bruce. When we got to the front of the line, no stations were open, but up stepped Bruce who opened up for us with twinkling eyes and kind words of welcome. He was knowledgeable and personable. I visit this post office regularly for the past 2 years. By frequent, I visit at least 4 times a week to drop off my e-commerce shipments. I've had many interactions with the majority of the staff and today's interaction was the last straw. The three women who work the front counter need to find non-customer service positions. They act as though they are doing us a favor and we are their burden. Example #1 I shipped large boxes and even before I could approach the counter, the women yells, "oh NO, we can't ship that. It's too big." I explained to her that I measured it and it fits within the limitations. Low and behold, it met requirements. Whenever these women are posed with something more complicated than a flat rate box, watch out, they'll make you feel like your request is a huge burden. Example #2 Today I approached the line that processes non-monetary transactions. She looked at me yelled, "You can drop those in the box." Um...how about a "How can I help you?" As opposed to a cranky order? If she was doing her job well, she would know that the mail drop was over filled and jammed. If she was doing her job well, she would check the mail drop often to promote the efficiency they bark at their customers. I informed her I needed a box to be scanned received and then she barked at me again, "I can't do that we're busy. That's too many boxes." Wow, just wow. First, this is your job . . Provide ALL the services not the one you have time for. Secondly, I just needed one box scanned. Begrudgingly, she scanned the box. I have so many other instances that I could recall. But my point is, put people who are pleasant, efficient, and have a work ethic that goes beyond the minimum in the customer service positions. I know a few people who would like this job and they would treat their customers light years better than how these women treat their customers. Now I know why people pay more for FedEx and UPS, they value their customers and it shows. I gave it 2 stars because then men who work the counter are more pleasant and not moody. read more

When all the regular dudes did absolutely nothing to remedy our lack of mail delivery for several days, SHE came through. I hate to say all the hullabaloo I had to go through to get, mainly a package, I was waiting on delivered after showing up at the Post office in Aviara to pick it up only to be told it was AGAIN on the truck for delivery (day two) and NEVER got delivered. I actually visit this office daily. At times the employees are a little tired and not so upbeat but they always assist us. The service is like most service everywhere else due too the demissing economy. I give them five stars for keeping up the good job. The manager is always very helpful with the staff and the customers. If you have a bad memory of this office maybe you should revisit. The new manager is warm and friendly verses the others from the past. I like the parking and the convenience of the two automated machines. read more

Just had an amazing amazon delivery through USPS Carlsbad. While Victor was delivering one of my orders (on Sunday), I was notified that another person was unable to find our front door. I told Victor that another deliverer was unable to complete the service and he said he'd check it out. Ok, how many times do you usually hear "I'll check that out" and never hear back? Not this time. So I decided to move back to Hawaii and only had 3 weeks to prepare. Sending my stuff through USPS Parcel Post seemed to be the cheapest option compared to FedEx, UPS, or Airline cargo. It comes out to be a little over a dollar per pound for large packages. After I packed my first box, I went to drop it off at the Encinitas location because it's the closest to me. The box was really freaken heavy. What was I thinking?!? I had to have several different strangers (men) help me lift the thing since they make you put your packages up on the high counters to be weighed. Anyway, it weighed more than the 70 lbs. weight limit. The lady at the counter kept on reprimanding me for it and said that the scale was going crazy. I told her I would unpack some stuff there. Everyone at the post office was staring at me and talking mad shit, including the employees. I was so embarrassed! When I finally got it down to 60 lbs. I walked out in shame and vowed never to go back there ever again. The La Costa location happened to be the 2nd closest to me. It's much smaller than the Encinitas location, and a little older looking. I brought my second box here, this time under the 70 lbs. weight limit. The line was long, but it moved MUCH faster than the line at the Encinitas location. The employees were so much friendlier and more helpful than the employees at Encinitas. The lady at the counter took my heavy box without saying anything negative to me so I decided to go back with the other 4 boxes (6 total). I came back in 2 more trips 2 days later. The lady at the counter recognized me and asked me if I was moving. She was nice enough to help me grab the box instead of watching me suffer from behind the counter. During my last trip, the guy behind the counter also recognized me and held my place at the front of the counter while I retrieved my other box in the car. He was very helpful, friendly and even introduced himself to me. I got an old school, small town vibe from this post office where everyone knows everyone and is friendly to each other. Post office employees are generally not very nice since people will use their services regardless of how they treat their customers. But, I gave this post office 5-stars because the employees go out of their way to treat their customers well. read more

Wow, Tony Esquivel is amazing. This man went above and beyond for me today! Excellent customer service! Here is what happened: I accidentally put a piece of mail in an outgoing mail slot and realized it after it had already been picked up. I called and spoke with Tony. I gave him the address of where the mail was delivered and picked up from and he informed me that I've called the wrong USPS. Instead of passing the buck, he told me that he would get in touch with the USPS which services my location and see what he could do for me. He took down my information and let me know he would be in touch. I didn't expect what happened next. Less than two hours later I get a call from Tony. He was happy to inform me that they were able to intercept the mail and have it rerouted back to the original recipient address. I am shocked and beyond pleased with this experience. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Let me tell you a true story about how this post office nearly ruined my wedding. I set up a PO Box several months ago for the sole purpose of receiving wedding RSVPs. So once I got my key to the box, I waited a week then sent out all my wedding invitations with a pre-paid stamped RSVP envelope with the PO box address. Then I waited and waited. And I received only 1 RSVP in my PO Box out of 100 invitations I mailed out. My friends were contacting me that the RSVP got sent back to their home and stamped as "address cannot be delivered". Also other friends told me they sent the RSVP even though I never received it in my PO box. So I went to the post office to find out what the F was going on. Their excuse was the mail sorter system uses the last name of the person who signed up for the PO Box. If the envelope doesnt have my last name printed, it will not be put into the PO Box EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE MY MAIL IN THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FREAKING WALL OF PO BOXES. For the RSVP envelopes, I used my fiancee' and my first names. This was the reason ALL OF MY RSVPs (except one) never got delivered to me. And the last twist of the knife was when they explained that all of my previous mail that got rejected were no longer in their post office, but was sent to Minneapolis because that's where they send all the undeliverable mail. This could have been all avoided if they simply explained to me how they sort their mail when I first signed up for the PO Box address, or how the mailing address needs to be formatted in order for me to receive mail. Then I asked them a hypothetical question about what happens if my RSVP envelope did not have any name, just the PO Box address. Shouldn't this mail get delivered to me, even if my last name is not on the mailing address? They wouldn't/couldn't answer this question. Never using the post office again. UPS, you just a new customer for life. read more

Just terrible. The surrounding development has exceeded this small post office's capability and now the parking lot is always full, the line is always long (owing in part to the retirement home recently built across the street), and the service suffers noticeably. With a few exceptions, the staff appear too overwhelmed (and some brazenly indifferent) to provide the fine service I get at the Encinitas or Carlsbad post offices. We are assigned a different mail carrier (outsourced, not actual postal employees) every few months, they frequently make mistakes, and it is always an ordeal to retrieve packages from this location. I've approached the supervisor with a problem three times and all three times she was immediately dismissive, bureaucratic and curt--simply too busy to serve any one person. Fortunately we have FedEx and UPS to pick up this location's considerable slack. This station makes the DMV seem like a model of speedy service. read more

Really? I sent a mid-sized envelope using the Aviara PO scale and self service kiosk this week. The total cost was $2.32. Aviara workers had the time to glue stick over the the address label a notation that the envelope was over 1/4 inch (it was a folded silk scarf) and that the correct postage was 2.38. It was returned stuffed into my mailbox about a week later. Really? Go to the Leucadia mini-post office on Coast Hwy for far better service. Better yet, use UPS Poinsettia for small packages. read more
