It's a nice and dense portion, and you know how I appreciate leftovers. Was it worth the wait, I'd say yes if you don't mind standing in the sun. There's not much waiting area out front or shade. We waited a total of 50 minutes. Their original time estimate was "about 20 mins". Would have preferred to know the actual so I could plan accordingly. I came at 1:10 on a Sunday and saw a decent crowd outside (10-15 people) either waiting for takeout or waiting to be seated. I was able to be seated pretty quickly because I was dining alone but would recommend coming sooner if you have a larger party. I noticed them tell a family that came in at 1:30 that they would only be able to do takeout as they likely wouldn't be seated in time. Overall ambience was nice and definitely for a younger crowd. When seated, you order through a QR code, which made it harder to ask if substitutions/additions would be possible. I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito (as recommended). They also recommended substituting for vegan queso and adding beans but was unsure how to do that (felt too complicated so I just decided to go with the original). I thought the burrito was good but probably too hyped up. I thought it could've been a little more flavorful. If you're ok with waiting for up to 45 min for a average good burrito, go for it. I had high hopes based on other people's reviews, but after the long wait, the first bite was ordinary. I love breakfast burritos (raised in SoCal) but I wouldn't recommend being smushed in a dining setting for lackluster eats. I appreciate the hard working staff, but I wouldn't recommend any foodie to go here. Case in point, I literally just ordered a breakfast burrito and latte today to treat myself for being on hold with the Dept of Labor for 5 years. The delivery app accidentally duplicated my order and instead of having me pay for both they gave me the second order free. Now I have 2 BREAKFAST BURRITOS for the week? Things are lookin up! As a daughter of a Mexican immigrant, who lived in Arizona for a decade, and who traveled to New Mexico regularly - New Mexican cuisine is just this special and unique thing that has Mexican and Tex-Mex similarities and is truly its own thing, so I cannot wait to try the green chile breakfast burrito and cheeseburger, the sopapillas, and the poblano relleno. Good place to get a breakfast burrito but be prepared to wait. From the time of ordering to receiving the burrito was 40+ minutes. I waited outside in the cold with about 60 other people. I was waiting for so long that I counted the amount of ppl. Some of those ppl were waiting to order, some were waiting on food, some had food already. There is nowhere to wait or sit inside at this current location in/near Crown Heights but I hear they may be moving??? They only do breakfast burritos between 8 AM and 12 Noon. Pretty sure the hours posted on the door said they are only open certain days. Parking isn't the easiest but I managed to score a place as someone just happened to be leaving when I got there. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chorizo. It was $11 and consisted of chorizo, scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheddar, and NM red chile. It was very good. I never made it to the Awkward Scone, the very celebrated but short lived bakery/restaurant this same team opened in Bushwick, so I made sure I booked it to Ursula the first week they opened. They are most known for their breakfast burritos, but by the time I arrived around noon on Friday afternoon, they were long sold out of those, and even sold out of their popular hibiscus donut and carne adovada sopaipilla. I felt a little defeated, having only a couple of options left on their mostly sold out menu, but I already made the trek and didn't want to return home to my partner empty handed. I'm glad I stuck it out because the poblano relleno and stuffed ground beef sopaipillas were what David Chang might call Ugly Delicious. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so you may disagree, but the food I chose (pictured) don't exactly make for the most aesthetically pleasing dishes. That's never stopped me from enjoying something delicious, and flavor is what these items had in spades. Let's start with the poblano relleno-- I recently tried to make this on my own at home and was shocked by the number of steps and technical skill required to make this recipe. Ultimately I was pleased with what I came up with but I felt that anything short of a small fortune was too cheap for the amount of labor that goes into making it. So the $14 Ursula charges for a tasty, filling, and pleasantly spicy stuffed pepper really ain't no thang. I've never had a sopaipilla but now I know I have been missing out. The fried dough is absolutely addictive, and paired with the generous amount of cheese and your choice of veggies, ground beef, or carne adovada will make for a fantastic meal. I am baaccckkkk! I was craving Ursula and stopped by on Saturday (Jan. 14) morning to scratch my itch. This particular day was cold with snow flurries and waiting in line was not ideal but that's to be expected with Ursula. Once my order was placed, I waited about 30 minutes before I secured the bag of goodies. The person taking the order was super friendly, reminding us that Ursula is moving to a bigger location (Bedstuy) with a yard in a few months. As I waited for my burrito with others outside, the line was just a few people shy before it turned the corner. Translation: busy, busy, busy. Burritos end at noon and it was approximately 11:30am at this point. Owner Eric See and an employee came out to hand everyone a small cup of hot chocolate, which I thought was a sweet gesture. It was cold, cold and I thought that showed appreciation for its customers. I know I said I would try the chorizo next time I'd stopped by; I ordered the bacon again. The man behind the now closed The Awkward Scone just opened this new spot in conjunction with Brutus Bakeshop. He is making the savory New Mexican food and Lani Halliday is making the baked goods. I arrived too late for breakfast burritos (they stop at noon) and for anything from Brutus Bakeshop, which was all sold out. I ordered the whole rest of the menu though - Pork Sopaipilla ($12), Turkey BLT ($14) and Poblano Relleno ($14). The Sopaipilla was excellent, and definitely the must try of these items. The BLT looked a little like it was a bunch of ingredients slapped together, but it was actually delicious. Got the chorizo breakfast burrito and it was extremely average. And the side green salsa I got just tasted like crushed bell peppers and water didn't add at all to the flavor profile. The only thing I can say is liked about the burrito was the texture but the flavor was lacking. Additionally the service for takeout sucks. My friends have been raving about this place for ages and I finally made the trip to crown heights to try it! I got here at 11:30 and there was a long line for people waiting for these burritos! At 12:00 they stamp you so that you can't order any more burritos, so I got there at a good time! They must be comparing New York burritos to it. There are no good burritos in New York. You need to be in California for that. The only exception is this place, and it's a New Mexican Style burrito. I haven't really had burritos elsewhere in NYC (mostly in San Francisco), but my friend swore by this place and has been raving about it forever, so I made a trek to Ursula. For $11, the delicious burritos are totally worth it. I was initially dismayed when I saw them, but the size is very deceptive - they're very densely packed and very delicious. We got the chorizo, bacon, and vegan ones to try, and even though I liked the bacon most, I loved them all. The bacon is great if you prefer milder, comforting flavors; the chorizo and the vegan are both incredibly flavorful. We went to the park and had a little picnic with our burritos. My friend said there usually isn't a line around 11, but there was definitely a 30 minute wait for us at 12:30. Four of us shared three burritos, and we could not finish them. We also got the horchata and sakura matcha drinks ($6?) which I didn't think were worth it. Both of them tasted pretty watered down and I definitely didn't taste any sakura in the matcha drink. I did just really need something to drink since it was a hot day, but I definitely enjoyed my $2 cold apple cider from the farmers' market more. I was not crazy about the Cold Brew, I think a cocktail or mocktail may have been the better option. Quantity: Large portions for everything except the Cold Brew. They have some space outside, which is more a waiting area than outdoor dining situation. Inside they have a counter and a few tables. There is a bar and a standing bar towards the kitchen in the back. Lots of cool decor fills the wall and fun tunes played in the background. However, the space is trying to do too many things, which is an adjustment from the previous, primarily take-out operation. Crowd: Got there at the perfect time, shortly after I ordered the line was out the door and the take-out orders were piling up. Service: Everyone working was lovely, but adjusting to the new location and some tech issues caused chaos. My advice is arrive early on the weekend. Rumored as one of "the best breakfast burritos" in BK so I had to come and decide for myself. Not too surprisingly there was a line but it flew by. A few (5-10) minutes wait for your food and drink outside wasn't bad either, especially because I could tell the food was freshly cooked. There's no indoor seating and a decent amount of sidewalk/outdoor seating with a fair turnover rate at this fast casual joint/takeout spot. I wish I paid more attention to the interior because the spot is so unique and vibrant but it's one of those those you'll just have to see for yourself. The food/drink: Really only came for the breakfast burritos and we ended up ordering one chorizo/egg/cheese w red chile and a bacon/egg/cheese with hatch green chile. I called from 1039am to 1124am in hopes to reach someone to help me. The online ordering platform doesn't have a way to resolve issues with your order either so phone was the only way. No phone no problem, but provide your loyal customers a way to get help. The food itself is bomb. I came here with my best friend, and we were hoping to try the famous breakfast burritos I've heard such great things about but we missed the time window. We decided to try the lunch. We each got the carne adovada and split some yucca fries. The yucca fries were cooked to PERFECTION; hands down the best I've had. And the sauce that comes with them is just top tier. The carne adovada had a flavor that I wasn't used to; almost a smoky, bitter aftertaste. It catches you off guard, but then you can't stop eating it at the same time. COVID-19 review: my family used to spend a few days in Santa Fe every summer (shoutout to the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market), and I would religiously eat a Posa's breakfast burrito every year. I've harbored a craving for New Mexican food ever since, and have had Eric See's breakfast burritos on my radar since the Awkward Scone days. When I saw Ursula was offering a holiday cookie box which included my beloved biscochitos (state cookie of New Mexico, in case you were wondering), I immediately pre-ordered a box and came by today to pick it up. I got to Ursula around 9:30AM, and while there was no line to order, there was a small crowd waiting for their food outside. In addition to snatching up my cookies, I ordered two chorizo breakfast burritos, a rosewater concha, the green apple chile pastelito, a passionfruit chile donut, and a lightly-iced lemon loaf (it took me 45 minutes to get here from Midtown, so WHEN IN ROME). After about 15 minutes, my food was ready: I immediately dug into the breakfast burrito, and... yes. Worth the trip. So good, and brought me back to my Santa Fe summers. This is the only breakfast burrito that has ever been in the position to challenge the burrito at Speedy Romeo's in my heart. The hash browns are an amazing addition, and the tortilla is soft and crisp at the same time. They travel very well too!! I brought burrito #2 to a friend I met up with several hours later in Manhattan, and there was no leakage at all + quality was still good after a quick reheat in the microwave! A quick breakdown of my pastry box, which I split with two different friends over the day (beloved by all three of us, although ranked slightly differently): 1) Passionfruit red chile donut: everyone agreed this was the star. The donut stayed fluffy/fresh and didn't dry out, even in the late afternoon. Passionfruit flavor is strong and tart, with just a hint of spice from the chile. The flavors really balanced out the richness of the brioche dough. 2) Green chile apple pastelito: this was my second favorite, kind of like an apple turnover with extra crisp edges and a subtle kick of chile right at the end. Lots of apple, and thank you to the staff at Ursula for giving me an insanely large slice of this. 3) Lemon loaf: this is new to the menu! I forget what the other component of this loaf was (maybe turmeric?), but the lemon flavor is counterbalanced by something a little sharp and savory. If you're a lemon cake person, you'll love this. Very moist and not too much icing. Friend #1 placed this one as her second favorite. 4) Rosewater concha: still solid, but not something I'd get again. Get you somebody that looks at you the way I look so lovingly at these burritos. So pre-COVID, I was a MASSIVE fan of Eric See's Bushwick cafe, The Awkward Scone. When I learned that it would be closing, every Southwest native like myself was so sad because life just ain't worth livin without their breakfast burritos. And these aren't just any burrito -- they're filled with fluffy eggs, bacon or chorizo, crispy hashbrowns, melty cheese,and -- the true star of the show & light of my life -- New Mexican green or red chiles, all wrapped in the freshest flour tortilla I've had in NYC to date. My mouth is just watering thinking about it. And the true wonder is the fact that these burritos were only $10. So all of that to say, I was sad to know that spot had closed. But fast forward a month or two and Eric See is back at it again with Ursula! (Fun fact: he named the restaurant after his grandma.) Now located in Crown Heights, Ursula is serving up those same delicious breakfast burritos PLUS more Southwestern fare like sopapillas and chile rellenos. The Texan in me is on cloud 9! They also have a new assortment of delicious baked goods like the guava poptart ($8), which I can guarantee you need in your life. I was a poll worker yesterday and unfortunately wasn't able to sleep in and I woke up with a breakfast burrito on my brain. I had tried coming here this past weekend but the line was down the block (socially distancing is enforced so it was probably only 7/8 people!). I get there bright and early and still was apparently half asleep because I didn't bring my wallet - only cash - and Ursula is a card only establishment. With that being said, the kind woman at the counter still put in my order and then let me go home and grab my card. Now that my monologue is over about my life and not the food...the bacon breakfast burrito was delicious. I got it with crispy bacon and the green sauce was spicy and delicious. I do not like it when spice is just HOT and not flavorful, but this was a delicious breakfast burrito. Every breakfast burrito should have hash browns in it NO questions asked. For Covid reasons, you wait outside and your food is brought out. They're very Covid conscious, which is reassuring. There's a nice sitting area with heat lamps to enjoy. Four stars because the burrito was a little expensive for my taste and by being a card only establishment, it doesn't allow people who might not have access to credit cards to enjoy. Needless to say, I will absolutely be returning. I'm very happy this is now in the neighborhood and can't wait to work my way through the menu. Holy shit I love this place. It's a little pricey. $10 for a breakfast burrito (about 4in) but it's really well made and good. My husband loved their brioche sandwich (I am not sure what it's contents ate but I have pictured with this review). What I love most is the green Chile inside their sandwich and burritos. Before y'all freak out: it's like a hint of spice. Just a hint. My husband is white and he can handle this so don't be alarmed. I believe the sandwich is $8. More reasonable in my opinion than the burrito but whatever. They also have coffee here and bottled fancy water. Outdoor seating (3 tables with 2 seats) and a bench with a fire lamp outside. It took about 10 minutes to get to the counter, with 5 parties of 2 each in line. Ordering was easy, but the wait.... THE WAIT! It took about 30 minutes to get the food, which is fine if you plan for it. But it seemed excessive, especially considering how my burrito was constructed. The outside of my bacon breakfast burrito was beautiful and crispy, and I knew I was about to eat a masterpiece. But I was wrong. The inside of my burrito was put together as if I was at Chipotle- the uneven distribution of the flavors + the wait = 3 stars instead of 5 (if they added a sauce, because it's truly dry af so grab ketchup). The first bites were uncomfortably full of chiles. The next bites were mainly potato and eggs, and then there were maybe 3 AMAZING bites that actually had bacon in it! So I hated some of it, I tolerated some of it and I loved some of it. This burrito felt like a movie where the director quit halfway through and they hired a hack to finish it. Thank you for nothing, World War Z burrito! I live 10 minutes away, and I refuse to experience this again like this. But if they actually use an online ordering system, use quality control in the kitchen (the ingredients are STELLAR- the construction is MEH), and get a light sauce or add ketchup packs then this would easily be a 5. Update 5/16/2023: I don't know where to start. So I missed a call from the manager- so I thought she'd be calling me to discuss the status of my refund. So I call her back. I think her name Lonnie or something like that. She informed me that, somehow, I was unable to get a refund due to again "system issues." She proceeded to express to me that she was the one who handled my situation and asked me what went wrong. So, here I am describing to her what went wrong- but she interrupts me and proceeds to call me a liar. WHAT? Like literally on the other end of the phone insulting me for writing a bad review. This is the first time I have been spoken to like this by anyone who considers themselves experienced in customer service. It's actually pretty crazy. Why did it get so personal when I'm literally expressing my concerns, and to be frank, I'm entitled to it. People get trained every day to deal with proper customer service, and you want to call me to berate me and insult me?... When you have yet to still issue me a refund? Wow! First of all I live in Harlem and we drove all the way to Brooklyn on a cold rainy windy Saturday morning and it was worth it. The food was delicious and the pastries were delicious as well. I got the juice and that was very flavorful but I think for $7 for a small cup was bit much. Now the breakfast burrito was perfect the hash browns inside and the chorizo were the perfect balance. There was a wait for about 15 minutes to get the food but it was hot and the burrito had a crispy exterior which made this the perfect burrito. I will definitely be back. I also ordered the guava pop tart guava which was also amazing and the chocolate concha which was so soft. This meal was delicious and I will definitely go back on warmer day so I can eat outside. read more
