I had breakfast there this weekend. I had a bad experience. I order the Uptown Kitchen Eggs Benedict with artichoke and spinach. When it was delivered to the table the eggs had slid off the spinach and into the potatoes. The sauce was thin and runny with no flavor. I was very disappointed. Had dinner here with a group of 4. The three others ordered a scallops dish which they all seemed to to like a lot. I ordered redfish special with Asian-style coconut sauce and rice and vegetables--it was very good, the fish perfectly done, and the accoutrements all very satisfying. Our group also ordered a couple of desserts, sharing a cheesecake of some sort, which was excellent. The only disappointment, which is a minor pet peeve of mine around these parts, is that I ordered an espresso at the end, and it was totally lacking the foamy crema of a well-made espresso. I'd rather they not offer espresso at all and just offer coffee if that's all they're prepared to do with espresso. But overall, this is a dinner place very much worth trying. read more

Uptown is not our go to Sunday Brunch. Service and Quality is very good! Unfortunately, that means busy... Smaller venue adds to the wait time as well. 40 minute wait turned into 60-70 minute. I always enjoy the unique offerings here. There creative use of very fresh and top end ingredients always shows up on the plate. I am a sucker for all day breakfast and they really deliver on a fantastic level for breakfast lovers. My son has a strict gluten free diet and they do a fantastic job with gluten free chef on staff. Last night I enjoyed the Lemon Ricotta cheese pancakes. Light and moist, these were really delicious. I look forward to eating at their new location when they move 200 meters south in January of 2011. read more

Went there for the first time with my boyfriend and we really enjoyed the vibe and the aesthetic of the restaurant. however the food was very disappointing. everything sounded great on the menu but when our dishes arrived they were pretty small portioned and there was little to none flavor. definetly left there still hungry. the cocktails were also very mediocre. our table napkins would have had more flavor than our food. can't say i would recommend going here. read more

We celebrated our daughter's birthday at Uptown Kitchen on Christmas Eve. We had a large group of 16 people. The food and service were good. We've eaten here every year for the last four years. To my surprise there was a charge of $2.50 per person totaling $40 on my bill as a "cutting fee". I spoke with the owner and expressed to him I thought it was ridiculous to charge us a fee because we brought our own cake to the celebration. This policy is nowhere on the menu and is not posted in the restaurant. The owner claimed it's on their website but I can't find it posted there. It was kind of the owner to reduce the fee to $20. Regardless, it is apparent to me that the owner has this policy because he can get away with it and people pay it. I encourage other diners in this situation to confront the owner about it. Perhaps he will make the right decision and remove this policy. I will no longer dine here. read more

My son and I are in from out of town; he is picky and I am a foodie. Our meals were absolutely fantastic. Farm to table fresh, excellent flavor combinations, reasonable prices. The homemade potato salad was out of this world, and the fresh herbs and homemade noodles made the chicken noodle soup a treat. The service was fantastic....I ordered an IPA and my waitress informed me that there wasn't one on tap....she offered to get me beer list and instead the bartender came out with a sampler of three different on tap options he thought I might like. Every meal I saw come out looked divine and everyone around us was raving about how good it was. It was a real treat.....highly recommend it to anyone. We were in town for the Women's Club Collegiate Water Polo Tournament and were SO HAPPY to discover Uptown Kitchen!! The food is AMAZING! Fresh, delicious, perfectly done. AND, if you have #GlutenFree people they will LOVE this place!! I got to have Stuffed French Toast with Nutella and banana and not worry about, you know, dying. Such a treat!!! My family and I were in town for my husband's Notre Dame grad program graduation. We were staying in a nearby hotel, and happened to find this gem for a late lunch. I loved seeing all the options that included fresh fruits/veggies and quality meats. The wine and beer selection was top notch as well. I had the Nicoise salad, and was pleased with the quality of all ingredients. And I loved their homemade salad dressings - yum! As we finished eating, the owner came by our table and chatted for awhile, and was extremely friendly. I saw other reviews saying he was not friendly - the restaurant was not very busy when we were there, so maybe that was the difference? Turns out he has some connections to Texas, as well as some other personal similarities to our family, so he was a joy to talk with. We mentioned that we'd be dining at The Mark Dine & Tap for the graduation dinner, which turned out to be his other restaurant! Busy place - especially since we came for the USC Notre Dame football weekend and place is packed with fans. They don't seat until your whole party is hear, but the service is very friendly and they do seem to care about their customers. We had brunch two days in a row and it was very good. Our whole group primarily had some version of the eggs -one day i had the scramble and another I had poached eggs. The scramble was very good and reasonably priced especially for the high quality of ingredients. Poached eggs were cooked very well - some places you can taste the vinegar that they use to cook, but here, they were just very nicely prepared and just tasted like eggs. The sausage links were good too. The house coffee was very good, strong, but not bitter - and they had soy milk available as well. Didn't read Yelp reviews prior to our meal, otherwise we would have tried the waffles/pancakes/french toast options because those sound so good... next visit.... read more

We have dined at both Uptown and it's former sibling The Mark dozens of times. The food is always good and the service pleasant and I've given 4+ and 5 star reviews of both before, but Sunday brunch this morning was an absolute disaster. We had a reservation for a party of 6 at 9:45. We arrived a few minutes prior and checked in running the Sunday morning Uptown routine: 1: reservation? 2: name and how many in your party? 3: anyone under 18 (if not they can seat you in the bar area as long as the under-21 is with an adult)? 4: Is everyone here? We were told we would be seated "as soon as possible" Over 45 minutes later and several similar size parties arriving after us having been seated, I approached the host/owner who is very prickly on the weekends about checking back on your status to the point of being difficult and contentious. Despite noting that he'd seat as soon as possible, he hadn't even put us in the queue claiming " I didn't think you were all here. Hey, I make mistakes". Well, when you display open hostility towards your customers if they come back to you and check on where they stand on your waiting list, you fly without a net and are in no position to make a mistake like that. And when you do, you should be accountable and responsible. Instead, your attitude was dismissive. Despite the food and limited options in South Bend, it will be difficult to go back. The arrogance demonstrated by ownership simply isn't acceptable. read more

I hosted a bridal lunch there yesterday and was appalled by the service. We had ladies from all over visiting for my best friend's wedding. I haven't lived in town for a long time so took advice of some locals. We order drinks and it took 5 tries to get the table of 6 the correct orders. We found something floating in one of the wine glasses. We then ordered and realized that there was dried food stuck on the silverware. When it was time to pay, the server couldn't figure out the bill to save her life. She had charged us for cocktails they didn't have and she couldn't figure out how to remove. This place is amazing! I came in at 2:57p (they close at 3) and they still sat me, treated me very well, and never once made me feel rushed. The food was amazing (and healthy!), the staff extremely courteous, and the manager came around to ensure I had an excellent experience. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area and/or passing through. I travel in sales for a living and see a lot of places over a 5-state territory, and this is one of the best out there! Give Uptown a try, you won't be sorry you did! Uptown is my go to place for brunch in Michiana. The food is amazing and they have a great selection of coffee and cocktails for reasonable prices. Their spicy Bloody Mary is the best Bloody Mary I've had. This place is usually packed, but that doesn't mean you'll miss out on good service. The servers are attentive and happy to answer any questions you have about the menu. All ages would enjoy Uptown. I highly recommend it! read more

I come here pretty regularly for brunch for their fantastic service and the taste, presentation, AND serving portions are all superb! It has a more upscale casual vibe for business meetings, brunch with the girls, or just a family breakfast meal. They have breakfast even during lunch hours. They do close at 3 and I've heard that they open for dinner now which is new. The vegetarian croissant, Jonathan healthy hash, and Stuffed French toast are soooo underrated and are a MUST!
