My wife and I stopped here on our way to Elkhart, Indiana, which is where a Hilton tapestry hotels that were staying overnight. We're going tonight to see Buddy Guy at the blue gate, which is in Shipshewana 25 minutes away from the hotel so we needed to eat and this was a place we stopped first time there probably never be in the area again, but she ordered an omelette. Well done which came with very well done roasted potatoes which she loved. She added mushrooms to the goat cheese omelette and she said it was delicious. She ate most of it on their menu printed out front. They had banana pancakes so I couldn't get a short stack. I only eat one pancake when I eat them so that's what I ordered. The coffee was surprisingly good and her decaf was surprisingly good. This would've been a five star the waitress whose name was Esmeralda was terrific and the manager came to check on everything twice except that the restaurant itself is rundown the boot seat, cracking, and need to be replaced. read more

Everything was cold and seemed like it was sitting for awhile, almost like it was premade. We are talking Sausage, French Toast, Waffles and biscuits and gravy. Gravy and cherries were dumped on Waffle and gravy was overflowing, and not in a good way. Never again!!! read more

Okay, not the kind of review I like to leave... Ordered a simple breakfast of 2 eggs over-easy, roasted potatoes, ham and wheat toast. The second order consisted of Meatlovers skillet with roasted potatoes, eggs over top, wheat toast. After inquiring and waiting patiently well over 45 minutes... the Waitress brought out our food and it was not what we ordered. We received an order of 2 pieces of bacon, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and rye toast. The other order 2 over-easy eggs, hash browns, ham and rye toast. We just asked to take it to go and paid. This is the second time we have received poor service in the last couple of weeks. We used to frequent this establishment on Sundays. Not sure if they have new ownership and the wait staff has changed. They need to get their act together or I am afraid at this rate they will not be around. We came around 2pm on a Saturday and had no issues with any wait. Our waiter was fast and super nice as well! The food was amazing, we did the French toast, an omelette and hash-browns. it's obvious to me that this restaurant is of convenience only to the town my husband I stopped in there very early this morning ordered a skillet and two eggs, bacon, toast, and hashbrowns. The food was saturated with grease very low. very cheap and generic food and the bill was over $50 for breakfast for two people. I suggest boiling some potatoes and doing your own hashbrowns to keep away from things being so saturated and I suggest. getting better quality food get away from the margarine and you really need to taste your food. The food was all excellent. Between the four of us we had most of the breakfast offerings. Our service was top-notch. Coffee was kept full and hot. They would have gotten five stars but.. It was so cold in there two people went to get jackets. The food was warm not hot. By the time we finished it was cold. The syrup was served in small containers and the top had skim on it where it had cooled. I could feel cold air coming from a vent somewhere. I would eat here again but maybe only in warmer weather. . We visited Top Notch on Easter Sunday. The food was not great. Both my husband and I ordered the skillet meals. His was greasy; mine was luke warm with no sizzle at all. The skillets were topped with eggs, but the substance didn't look like any scrambled egg I have ever made. They were flat pieces of tasteless egg material - probably from a box. The skillet was not seasoned and I am sure had no butter in it because it tasted bland. My skillet came with a piece of french toast. It was a thick cut of bread piled with gross margarine that I had to scrape off. The syrup was not maple syrup but a thin high fructose corn syrup. Again, the toast was luke warm at best. The worst part was the coffee tasted like bitter dirt water. At $2.99/cup I choked it down. Then they added a % if you pay with a debit card instead of cash. It was an expensive breakfast for what we received. I would NOT recommend this restaurant read more

We both ordered the exact same thing biscuits and gravy with side order of hash browns, my hash browns were overdone and his was not even cooked hardly and then the biscuits and gravy had a bad flavor and couldn't eat it. The food is always good with good portions. The waitresses are friendly. And the wait is never bad.

Meals are huge. If you leave hungry, you did it to yourself. I had nearly a whole meal of leftovers.

I love eating here but the other day when I called my order in to go. The gentleman on the phone was slow and did not place my order right. I usually get the same thing, but I cannot have the metal tins due to my allergies. I asked for it to be put in a Styrofoam container and it was in the tins. I also asked for gravy on my potatoes and that was put in a cup! I am not happy and I know I won't be back or have as many friends coming back due to this. I have worked a lot in the restraunt business and customers ccome first. That is where you make your money. You will not be getting mine for awhile if ever again. I was in South Bend for a wedding and we decided to meet here the next morning before driving home. Bad call on my part.. this isn't the kind of place you eat at and then hop in the car for a 5-hour drive. First off, the place was packed on a Sunday morning. When they told me it would be a 5-10 minute wait, I thought there was no way. Judging from the number of people who were standing around, I figured it would be at least a half hour. Wrong. 5 minutes is all we waited! We almost needed a second table for all of the food we got. Big breakfasts with multiple plates for hash browns, pancakes, etc. Everything made to order and everything excellent. The pancakes were slightly sweet on their own, so I didn't even use syrup. Been going here for the last 6 months every Sunday. Most of the varsity A team staff know our drink order by heart. The last five weeks they have hired some new staff. If you don't get served water immediately, you're getting poor service. The last five Sundays have been a nightmare. The last time we went in the server asked for our drink order. Then she asked for our food order. Then she asked for our food order again. Then she asked what we wanted for our drinks. The coffee was lukewarm and full of grounds. When the food was brought out it was almost room temp. I asked for my eggs scrambled well and I guess she forgot to write that down. I asked for a side of salsa and upon looking at the bill she never wrote it down. I asked for fruit instead of hashbrowns and she brought me hashbrowns. We waited longer than usual to have our food brought to us and it was an about 2 hours before closing so they were not busy. The waitress never asked us if we wanted refills. In the past I haven't spoken up and just let it go, this time I spoke to someone about this and we never heard from the manager. They offered to remake my eggs but at that point I declined we had been there long enough. The week before that, I ordered my food with a cup of soup. The waitress specifically asked me do you want a cup or a bowl, I said cup, and she never brought me my soup. Similar issues have occurred in the previous weeks. This new staff is letting food sit to long, no water being given as soon as we sit down, orders constantly missing something or not getting what we asked for, toast coming out cold, butter not even melted. One server even brought out my to-go box and sat it right on top of my bacon that I was still eating. So, if you're planning on eating here make sure you sit in a section where you know your servers have been there a long time. read more
