If it's your first time, note that the menus are in a slot just below the table. It's also a smaller restaurant with limited seating, so it may be best to avoid the rush. If your looking for a little dive restaurant with decent food and excellent service, then this is the place for you. The menu is basic and extremely cheap, but if you dont feel like dressing up and want to grab a bite to eat then throw on your trucker cap and stop into this little place. The service is outstanding and extremely friendly. Never once did I need to ask for any type of refill. I never saw the bottom of my coffee cup until I told the server not to fill it. Definitely a divey mom and pop type restaurant great for family lunch and breakfasts. You definitely get a lot of food for the money you spend. Didn't expect to walk out with a smile on my face but I did and will definitely come back. I would have given the spot 5 stars but there was a little spot on the table that was a smidge sticky. My sister and I usually go for brunch on sundays and try to go to a different diner every time this past Sunday it was this lovely little place. I've drove by it numerous times and always said I wanted to try it so we did this time. When we walked in we got a table right away and our server was over pretty promptly. Yep, those are some tasty biscuits and gravy, just like everyone else said. But, man, those portion sizes are NOT kidding around. I ordered the full size with the potatoes and almost made it through half. The hubby ordered an omelet that felt like it had a full package of bacon tucked in to it. He made it through almost half. The leftovers were very tasty later, making another full meal and change for each of us. The diner itself is pretty typical and very tidy. The staff were friendly and offered to refill coffee promptly. We were there midday so customers were ordering a combination of breakfast and lunch. Only down side there was that the smell of fried perch didn't go very well with bus this and gravy, but it wasn't overwhelming. Prices were just about right. I would guess there can be a wait for tables at peak brunch hour, but we didn't have an problems and tables were turned pretty quickly. Exactly what we needed for a late weekend start. read more

I am a Yelp devotee, but if it wasn't for Google Reviews (and my husband's insistence that they are more reliable than Yelp reviews) I never would have tried this place. But I try to compromise, and my husband relies on Google reviews, where Cock-a-Doodle blows the competitors out of the park, so off to Elkhart we went. I hate to admit it, but in this case, Yelp failed me. This place was great! It is nothing to look at on the outside (or even the inside, really), but it was packed. We didn't wait long for a seat at the counter and had coffee in no time. It is a real team effort. I think we had a total of 6 people waiting on us for this or that, but not in a disorganized way - more like a well-oiled machine. The coffee was good, with some flavor I couldn't put my finger that made it cozy and comforting as I looked over the HUGE menu. I would have poured over it for an eternity if I hadn't arrived prepared to order B&G. The food came out quickly and was delicious. A to-go order for the teenager back home was well-wrapped and stayed hot all the way back to the Bend. The three of us ate for under $20. It seemed like a deal to me. I'd have to try other things at Cock-a-Doodle to give it 5 stars, but I was really impressed with the down home, family atmosphere. We're not alone, its always busy, but usually there's no wait. They have more than breakfast on the menu, and its good, but we almost always have breakfast no matter what time of the day. She was clearly agitated with us being there, she asked if it was together or not before she took our order, which is something we get all the time. It drives me crazy! If I want the check split I'll tell you! Anyhow, was asked What do you want? Gave her our order. She then took another tables order and was very friendly. She did not turn our ticket in first she turned the other tables in first, so in turn we did not get our food until way after they did! She checked on them twice while never returning to our table to ask how everything was. Never getting a refill on coffee unless it was by the hostess lady that was walking around with coffee. Went here for the first time on a Saturday morning. The outside is a little rough looking. However, when you walk in it is nice and quaint. The restaurant was full (which is always a good sign). Menu is large and offers many options. I ordered the Mexican skillet. It was quite large! It comes with salsa and sour cream (which their refill at no additional charge). I was only able to eat half and loved every bite! Made even better left overs! My husband got the western omelet and devoured his! We also got a side order of biscuits and gravy since we had heard that they are really good. They certainly did not disappoint. Pricing is a little more than other breakfast places in the area but not terrible. For Omelet with toast, skillet with toast, small side biscuits and gravy, and 2 coffees was $33 not including tip. The inside is small and it is seat yourself but the tables turn quickly. We will definitely go back! read more
