I was surprised that when you spend such a large amount on a meal that you're charged extra to have cheese, eggs, etc put on your salad. Ordered onions on my steak and they were crunchy, almost raw. Food was OK. We were a party of five and were there for a small birthday party. We were not even done eating and the waitress was throwing to-go boxes in front of all of us. She brought the check without ever asking if we wanted dessert. We were there for a birthday party. You would think we would want dessert. So when I ask for desserts, she had to redo our bill. She brought the bill to us before our dessert. It wasn't a very relaxing time for my family being rushed through a very expensive meal, especially when the total cost of the meal was over $300!! read more

Went to Heinies about 3 ago on a Saturday night. Good meal. They specialize in great cuts of beef. We love the prime rib which is available on Tuesday Friday & Saturday. Had the smallest cut which was plenty of food. It is accompanied by a choice of sides. This is not a fancy place but a simple restaurant with fairly traditional offerings. Have eaten the fried chicken which is very good too. The service was friendly & efficient. We didn't have to wait long but the do not take reservations so an early dinning time is the best way to avoid a long wait. Back here again, We kicked things off with the taco sticks and potato wedges, both solid starters that hit the spot. For mains, our daughter ordered the New York Strip, and it was cooked perfectly. My husband had the Heinnies Melt and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. I went with the pork tenderloin sandwich,crispy, flavorful, and just plain delicious. We definitely over-ordered, but no regrets, we packed up the leftovers for later. This is clearly a beloved local joint, but if you're in the area and want a hearty, satisfying meal, don't skip it. We have been going here for years, and Im telling you that I have NEVER had this many issues with this place. The salad they brought to us was OLD, so old the eggs were brown and smelled bad, and the server tried to tell us that this is the way that they get cooked, um no!. The server argued with us from the time we sat down to the time we left. We got the prime rib, and it was suppose to be a pony cut, it was all about maybe 6OZ if were lucky, cut so thin you could see thought it, ordered mushrooms with it, got like 6 small button mushrooms. The food and service are both excellent. This restaurant is locally owned and loved by locals and travellers alike. The decor is basic but clean. (They do have a Christmas Story leg lamp, as a point of interest.) The side salad, salmon, and baked potato is my go to order. It comes with garlic bread and dill sauce. We have been to Heinnies many many times over the years. The food is always hot and delicious! The atmosphere is very -Grandmas house/farm feel. Each table has a wood partion separating it from the next table, making a very cozy private ambiance. The food is exceptional! My husband loves the steak sandwich or a delicious huge burger from there. I loooove the steak fries! Also fried zucchini is always crispy and delicious. Be careful when they ask if you would like your potato loaded $1.78 fee for that and .99 for each items you have on your salad Cheese, Bacon and egg. `This is an excellent place to visit with family or friends. It is peaceful, family oriented, and NO music to assail the customers ears. No blaring televisions, either! Conversations are very easy to carry on. A very special mention I must make is that Angie is the best of the best! Dianna is second on this list. They can give as good as they take when it comes to teasing them. Ten Thumbs Up for both of them! I also like that one of the televisions carries PAWS tv. If you're up in Northern Indiana near Goshen then stop by Heinnie's....and you may want to get there early because when we showed up at 4:30p on a Saturday night the wait was 60 minutes. It was worth the wait! We got on the list and then sat in our truck until GO time. One of their specialties is the fried chicken and it's fantastic! I grew up on a farm. Both my mom and grandma had their recipes of fixin' (yeah fixing') fried chicken so I know good fried chicken and this is awesome! The cup of house made chili was really good and the sampler platter for the appetizer was well done. Did I tell you the chicken was some of the best I've had? My kiddo had the pork tenderloin and it came out in true Indiana fashion, IYKYK. I had a sample of the half she couldn't eat and again, fantastic. For the four of us to have drinks (sodas), two beers, three entrees (2 split the chicken because it's half a chicken), two beers, soups, salads, and the sampler platter it all came to $102 including the tip. I tip well because I used to be a server, they did a great job, and I'm not cheap. ;-) BTW, we paid at the table as all the servers have the mobile devices for payment. 7/19/2024 Dinner Food: The food was not up to par. My loaded potato and ham & beens soup set too long and was warm instead of hot. My steak was poorly seasoned and not hot. Service: the place was crowded. We expected a wait. We went to the bar where the service and ambiance was very nice. We were seated in the dinning overflow area. We waited a long time even after we had been seated. Other people who were seated after us got waited on and served before us. Our waitress had on a supportive Trump shirt. Although her political views are her right and her business, it is inappropriate for business attire. The other waitress appeared to go out of her way not to even say hello is us. The remodel is wonderful. I never knew the difference between a bar and a pub. The remodel has real pub vibes for me. The individual booths cut down on noise and you can hear . It was well seasoned and tender. However, we didn't realize how expensive it would be, even when it was the special. So the final bill was a bit of a shock. My husband I had gotten cheeseburgers and they were the worst burgers that we have ever had, they were lacking in seasoning and the meat itself was awful! I wanted to try somewhere local in Elkhart so I came here. It's very '70s Moose Club looking inside. There's a front bar and then the back barn. The service was incredibly fast. The steaks are wet aged and extremely juicy although I don't think they are using prime beef, This is a local, old school steakhouse. It's low cost but high on service. We were visiting from out of town and thought we would try this place. The menu online listed completely different prices than the menu in the restaurant. The prices were 50% higher on the items we were getting. So that was surprising. Our server was fantastic. Friendly and nice. That was the only positive. the quality of food was horrible! My daughters burger was a frozen burger from a box. It was so greasy and soggy that the buns fell apart she couldn't even eat it on the bun. As we left the restaurant we saw other people with burgers that had huge nice looking burgers and her burger was a piece of crap. I got the pork tenderloin which was breaded but the breading was horrible. It was heavy and thick and tons of pepper. The waitress said the fries were steak fries-- they are not. For her crappy burger, my horrible sandwich, and the fries, our bill was $30. Too much considering the poor quality of the food. Definitely will not be back! read more
