We were in town visiting family and made reservations at Brass Elk Brewing. I was excited to try a flight or two and had my dinner choice narrowed down by the time we got there. My daughter-in-law made reservations and when we arrived, there were no handicap spaces at all due to the 4th of July fireworks, so my son had us get out of our car and went and parked it (we drove two cars) A valet option would have been nice. When we entered, the hostess told us to sit anywhere. We told her we had reservations on the patio, so she led us outside. We realized on this very hot and sticky day that there wasn't adequate fans to help move the air, so we requested to be seated inside (remember we were told to sit anywhere) We were then told they weren't seating inside, although there was a couple tables of people inside. The place wasn't the least bit busy, so I don't know why we couldn't sit inside. I have health issues and my ankles and feet swell with humid weather, which is one of the reasons we moved to southern Arizona. I even told whoever was seating us that I would swell up but they didn't care. Keep in mind the reservations were made days in advance and we didn't know it was going to be so awful outside. The next issue was the menu. They only offered a limited 4th of July menu, so all our original choices were out the window. They were not busy when we arrived at 6 and still not busy when we left at 7, so I think their expectations were overblown. There were also another table or two seated inside, which was odd since they weren't seating inside. I will give them points for the breakfast smash burger and fries cooked in tallow. The food was good. It wasn't to-die-for, but no complaints. That's the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars. The crappy seating attitude and limited menu knocked off a star and the fact I could barely wear my sandals by the time we finished because my feet and ankles were swollen and huge knocked off another star. I guess they also don't expect people with kids to eat at their restaurant. We ordered a lemonade for the 3 year old and they brought a 16 ounce cup with an easily- removed rubber lid, which she immediately removed and spilled her drink before we could grab her. I ask the wait staff for a children's cup and they said that was it. The rubber lid counted I guess. Keep in mind our water glasses were less than half the size of their "children's" cup but they were made of glass. I'll give them a solid meh and a one finger salute for their attitude. read more

Laurel Marnocha, I just wanted to reach out to you about our experience at the Brass Elk on 8-29-26. My family and I went to the Brass Elk to celebrate a birthday before we went over to the Celebration Under the Stars. We arrived at the Brass Elk around 4:30pm and were told they had no hostess so we could seat ourselves. We were going out to the patio, and a waiter stopped us to greet us, and we asked if we could sit outside for a party of 5. He said yes, but some tables are reserved, and they were marked with reserved table signs, so we were placed at a table of 6. We ordered drinks and placed appetizers in order as we were waiting for another to arrive before we were ready to place an order for food. Our other guest arrived as we were finishing our appetizers, and we then placed our order at 5:00pm. We received our food at 5:30pm and was told by our waitress we had to be done eating by 6:30pm because this table had a reservation at 6:30pm for it. I mentioned to the waitress at that time we just got our food and if they are going to tell us we must leave I would like to talk to the manager as that is very unprofessional. As a business owner I would never tell a paying customer that they have to be out of a table that was not marked for a reservation and were not told about reservations on table till after we placed order for drinks, appetizers were finished, and our food was already delivered to our table.  Our waitress left and came back a little later and asked how to do check because we need to be out of this table by 6. I then questioned her and asked why the time changed by 30 minutes since the last time she was at our table. She said this is what the manager said she was told to tell us. I asked to speak to the manager, and he came to our table and explained the situation about what happened and how we can be told we are only allowed to be at our table for 30 minutes after we got our food. Very unprofessional and not a good look for a business. He said the table was reserved for 6:30pm, and I said why would they not have it marked with a reserved sign like others that were marked. I pointed out 3 other tables that were marked reserved that not one person was sitting at the whole time we were there, and our table wasn't marked, and nothing was told to us any time until after hour when we were at the restaurant and ordered drinks, food and appetizers. How can you have and serve people food and then tell them they have 30 minutes to eat and be out of the table? I would never push a paying customer or a group of customers out of a table because of a mistake by management and poor communication to everyone involved. No compensation or not even a sorry by the manager or the waitress just told we had to leave our table. Very embarrassing for a business, especially when you come from a family of restaurant owners. I have never experienced this type of rudeness or unpleasant dining experience in my life. I'm very disappointed in the service and my experience with my dining experience at the Brass Elk and will be sharing my experience with others in the Elkhart County area. I am writing to formally complain about a deeply upsetting experience at this restaurant. I chose Brass Elk Brewing to celebrate my birthday, expecting a celebratory and welcoming environment. Instead, my guests and I were treated with complete disrespect by both, service and management staff. During our meal, our waiter rudely demanded that we hurry up and eat because the table was reserved for another party. We were shocked by this aggressive approach, as we were paying customers trying to enjoy a special occasion, and finishing with desserts and more drinks after our meal. Hoping to resolve the issue, we immediately spoke to the manager on duty. To our disbelief, the manager defended the behavior and repeated the exact same demand, showing zero hospitality or regard for our experience. Because of this, my birthday celebration was completely ruined, there was no time to have dessert or more drinks, so we left feeling stressed and unwelcome. While I understand the need to manage table rotations, rushing paying guests in a rude manner and having management back up that hostility is unacceptable. Your on-site management team clearly does not understand basic customer service. The staff knew it was my birthday because we asked if they do anything special for a birthday person, plus I had gift bags next to me. But It didn't stop them to force us out of the restaurant before we even had a chance to have a dessert. I have not been offered a different table or free dessert or discounted bill. Friendly staff and we had great service by our waiter. While I enjoyed the ambiance of the outdoor patio, I was very disappointed that they cook their fries in beef tallow. It's hard enough for people like myself who don't eat beef or pork, or those who are vegetarians and vegans, to find safe menu items. Previous visits have been good, see my earlier review on Brass Elk. However, my most recent visit 2/21/26 was not good. Went for lunch, and was quite disappointed. On the good side, service was good, servers were friendly, tried to be helpful, food came out quickly. I found their system confusing though, as you didn't have one server, they all stopped at the table at various times. Food was disappointing. Wife had the Reuben sandwich. Reuben should be corned beef, what she had was NOT corned beef, it looked like roast beef, she said it tasted like leftover prime rib from last night. The fries were good though. I had angel hair pasta shrimp scampi. The shrimp was good, properly cooked without being rubbery, good flavor. The angel hair was badly overcooked, clumpy, mushy. Angel hair is easy to overcook, because it's so thin, but if you are going to offer it on the menu, the cooks need to know how to keep an eye on it. The worst part was the noise/music/DJ. It was so horribly loud, we could not talk. The next table were screaming at each other to be heard. We asked the servers, twice, to turn it down. The first said it was some sort of event, the DJ was running it, and they couldn't change it. The second said she would ask the manager, and I saw her walk up the the manager, talk to him, and saw him shake his head. I opened up the decibel meter on my phone, and it recorded an average of 87 decibels, with a peak of 90 decibels. Equivalent to a large lawn mower. Hearing protection recommended for extended exposure. In retrospect, we should have left when they first said no. We did see another couple who did leave. I would have given 1 star, but because we've had good experience in the past, I'll average it as a 2 star. read more

This place is not ADA compliant if you have a service dog. Tried to come here with my service dog and was told I had to go around the back, walk up a grassy hill and enter through the back. I have a service dog due to mobility issues and energy limitations. This took a lot out of me. I understand about the kitchen but that is NOT a reason to treat a person with a disability like that. Check ADA law. You can not refuse service or put a person with a service dog in another area for your business convenience. This experience ruined any chance of me eating at this establishment, what if i needed to use the restroom. Would they insist I pee outside? I have no idea how the food is, I could not spend any more time at a business who treated its disabled clients so poorly. read more

It was a Saturday night and a beautiful night to sit on the patio. The hostesses, bartenders and serving staff were all very welcoming! That was the extent of the "great experience". Maybe we picked an off night but they were out of almost everything we ordered. First two orders- Steak, (not available), next couple of orders- a specialty that the waiter recomended instead (lobster mac and cheese), only to find out it too was not available. Upon our third try- most of us went with burgers and salads as safe choices, albeit-No gluten free buns for burgers (though advertised that they were available). Highly recommend this place. Our server was wonderful! Food was fantastic. And love the atmosphere. We will definitely be making this a regular spot. The only thing I would change would be adding to the waffle entrees. My 7 year old daughter ate the whole thing and so did my 11 year old who actually asked for more. For an adult it could use a third waffle. The chicken and waffles could have had two waffles. They're delicious but on the thinner side. More like a pancake in thickness. And we are not big eaters. Came to Brass Elk after a lovely night at the Wellfield Lights expecting a nice way to wind down our night. The place is your typical brewery aesthetic with wood accents and nice lighting. It looked nice inside. The service, however, was a different story. First, we were mistakenly called to get seated and the wait staff was flustered and rushed to find us a table. We were seated in the terrace and we had many problems here. The door to the terrace was very heavy and should have been propped open as wait staff and other guests had to strong-man the door open. The door was constantly being open and closed, as there is 7+ tables on the terrace. Another gripe we had was a server was rolling silverware behind us and they were clashing silverware for all to hear. A little consideration here would have been nice since we were right behind this station. Service as a whole took a while, from putting our order in and getting our tab, it was too long. The food wasn't bad but wasn't great either. Our Kaarage had good flavor and were crispy but we wished we had more. I had the Bleu Smash, and it cooked well and had a nice flavor however could have more blue cheese crumbs and more sauce. My Mom had the Indy Pork Sandy and she said it could have need more mayo since the sandwich eats a little dry. My brother had the French dip, no problems here. The fries were pretty tasty but definitely needs katchup on the side, especially since they give you a nice serving. Overall, the service definitely could have used some improvements. Love the tip of the hat to Elkhart's rich musical instrument manufacturing heritage evidenced in the decor and libation names. The Brussels Sprouts are the best flavored I have ordered anywhere. I usually order IPAs, but ordered the White Rump Wheat, made in-house, wanting to keep it light. It was impressive for a wheat with a lot of pizazz and flavor for a wheat. This spot is perfect for the downtown location. It's a new brewery in Elkhart. The food is delicious (except the fries, which had no flavor) and the drinks are strong. There is always a drink special, so be sure to ask about it. The staff is friendly, although it took our waitress 8 minutes to come to our table after we'd been seated (hence the four star review). My husband really liked his Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich. Chicken was tender and the hot honey, sriracha sauce, and caraway slaw made a flavorful topping with just the right amount of heat. I enjoyed the Reuben Sandwich of which the corned beef was plentiful and it had good flavor; however...I found the meat to be a combination of dry and moist. And the fries...DELICIOUS. My husband still found room for dessert, spiced apple bread pudding and happy the waitress brought extra spoons!! No picture since we dove into it. Lol. The service was excellent from the moment we stepped inside the door! And we had a friendly, sweet waitress who made sure we had what we needed throughout our meal. I look forward to returning and think it would be lovely to dine there on a warm summer evening or stop by for an appetizer and libation.
