These guys have the best chips and ranch that I've ever tasted in my life. It's magnificent ranch. Rosemary ranch? We were seated right away. I'm glad they were open a little later than average. I was delighted to eat a smoked brisket burger. That thing must've been 6 inches high. It was a monster. My sweetie loved the fish tacos. They have an amazing wasabi, mayo sauce that goes with them. The middles split a prime rib Mac and cheese. They described it as "real American food" with a smile and a twinkle in their eye. That means it's delicious. It's actually a bacon prime rib, mac & cheese, and they don't even mention the bacon because the prime rib is so good. Very filling. I took a sample and it is probably the best tasting meat augmented mac & cheese I've ever tasted. The smokiness just does something amazing there. I like the background music. I like the barn, Midwest, rustic ambience. It was a delicious experience. I had to share about it online with some Japanese folks because of their recent enthusiasm for American "cheese violence". I finally decided to try the Chubby Trout tonight. I was greeted by a couple of friendly and smiling faces at the door. I was Seated right away and introduced to my waitress, Taylor, immediately. Taylor deserves special accolades. She was so friendly and caring; she made my dining experience special. Thank you Taylor!! Taylor was awesome; she was friendly, always checking on me and sincerely concerned about my satisfaction. She was willing to do anything to make things right if I wasn't happy with something. First I ordered the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. Then I ordered off the specials menu; a Japanese spiced Branzino dish. The crab cakes were somewhat disappointing. Mostly filler and not much crab taste. Sometimes the taste actually resembled a tuna fish sandwich. The remoulade sauce that came with the crab cakes was really tasty. I wasn't really happy with the branzino dish. The fish was cooked pretty well, but "in my opinion" It had too much seasoning and the seasoning had an off flavor. Could just be my personal tastes. The restaurant has a lot of seating, little nooks and corners and a bar with seating. Plenty of quiet areas and areas to gather as a large group as well. Love the name! So stinking cute! Stumbled on this restaurant because my mom wanted some fresh fish. I was surprised that it was walking distance. We still drove over. The parking lot was full, which is always a good sign that the restaurant is good especially on a weeknight. Once we were seated, our server came to greet us. We started off with a 1/2 order of calamari. So good! I ordered the chubby trout which is trout stuffed with shrimp and stuffing. My mom ordered the fried perch. We had such an enjoyable experience. The server was very attentive even though the time to receive our meal seemed extensive. This was going to be my dinner spot even though my hotel has a restaurant because I like to experience local restaurants. The place is very popular because it filled up fast. The decor is like a western theme with wagon wheel lights, barn door and lots of wood. They have an outdoor patio. Small bar and a dining room. My server was very friendly and we had a nice conversation because she had family in Lake Geneva Wi. I wad order a whisky old fashioned sour forgetting I was in IN and not WI so I wasn't expecting very much but to my surprise it was very good. I would order the queen prime rib rare with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The prime rib on its own was tender but bland on the dry rub probably because most of the clientele was older people. The au jus was bland once again with no big beef flavor. The creamy horseradish sauce was amazing and really delicious which made up for all the blandness. Very nice. Walkable from the hotels, but honestly a bit pricy for the area. Online has a gluten free, but otherwise no real indication for food sensitivities on menu. They are in the middle of changing their menu. The smoked prime rib is no longer smoked it is just roasted. They do mention this when you sit down, but just a heads up. Ambiance is very nice. I enjoyed it. Clean and friendly staff. You can sit at the high tops outs while you wait and they have a limited menu with full bar drinks that you can order from while you wait. read more

My husband and I were in town to get work done on our rv and decided to stop for a late afternoon lunch. I was really excited to try this place since the reviews were good but left feeling very underwhelmed. We sat at the bar and ordered pretzels for an app. Unfortunately the serving size was pretty small but what we did get was good. We ordered two sushi rolls and a couple pieces of nigiri. The ahi tuna and yellowtail nigiri was great. Simple and fresh. We ordered the American dream roll which was just meh to us. We also ordered the featured Cowboy roll. It was TERRIBLE! Cold, well done steak wrapped around the roll and then smothered in sauces with a handful of thick fried onion pieces on top. It was hard to eat and chewy. Not at all delicate and light like sushi should be. It really struck me as a place that makes sushi for people who don't like raw fish but want to be included. Pretty disappointed in my daddy daughter date dinner. We both ordered New York strips, medium rare. Both came out medium well. Sure they were only advertised as 10oz, but they were under 1/2" thick each, and more fat than most New York strips I'd consider serving. We got a sushi roll, and while it tasted good, the execution was rather poor, as every piece was falling apart from not being rolled tight enough. As always our service was pretty decent, even for a busy night. Oh my god. Let me start off by saying, best sushi ever. My house burned down in LA and ever since I came to Michigan, no sushi has ever been quite the same. Then, one day, I came to this place. First of all, waitress was so nice! She was also really pretty and kind. We got our meal in a short amount of time. I had the cobra roll! (100% recommend!) absolutely amazing. Sauce was so delicious. This place is my new go-to place in Elkhart. It has the ambience of a rustic brewery and the food is high quality. They have a large selection of local brews on tap and a full bar with specialty cocktails. I had the Chubby trout and it was amazing. It's sautéed with a delicious sauce. Very good! The rice was dry but the Cole slaw was the best I've ever had. I had the crab bisque as an appetizer and it was incredible. I highly recommend the crab bisque although it is slightly spicy. Started out by ordering on their mobile app. It was easy to use and once you make your initial order you can pick which sides you want. We ordered the Fried Mess'O Perch with loaded mashed potatoes, house Veggies and their Mango Salmon with baked potato, Coleslaw. The pick-up time was 30-35 min. After you place your order. So, I get there right on time pull into the reserved parking spot right up front and called in to let them know I was there to pick-up my prepaid order. To my surprise they didn't even have an order in my name!! WHAT! So after 10 min. Of back and forth (since I paid with Apple Pay) they finally found my order and was told it would be another 30-35 min. I waited and waited and finally 45 min. later I got our order and headed home. The Mango Salmon and baked potato was superb with a lot of flavor nice portions and lg. baked potato. The fried perch was tough and chewy and very tiny strips with way too much breading. So much you couldn't taste the perch. The loaded mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about. The House Veggies were the best part of the entree. I set up reservations for a group of 18 and upon arrival we had others join our group increasing the number to 22. The food is remarkably good from the sushi roll (Red Dragon) to the soup (Crabcake Bisque) to the fried fish (Striped Basket) and (Grouper Basket). Great fish, great service, great experience. I got the chubby trout grilled on a bed of shrimp stuffing. Trout was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I got a baked potato and coleslaw for my sides. Excellent. Next time I'd like to try the fried calamari and sushi. Wait staff was friendly and food came quick. I dined alone which was not uncomfortable as it is some places but it seems like a great place for a date or a group to eat as well.
