His wine recommendation was perfect and it paired well with my delicious steak. I was not a fan of the cream on the Brussel sprouts but everything else I had was ok. The wedge salad, steak and crème brûlée were my favs! There's a lot of construction around the venue but we called and they gave us some great directions to get there. We went in the evening but you can tell during the day the scenery and views are beautiful. My friend had the short rib and she enjoyed her meal as well. I came to Cascade for my birthday dinner, and from the first plate to the last bite of cake, this kitchen made the case that it belongs in the Michelin Guide. The dining room sits at the base of a residential building right on the river. The floor to ceiling views of the water doing half the decorating, and the other half is a menu with real ambition: market oysters and chilled shellfish towers, USDA Prime steaks, a 40-day dry aged strip, and A5 Miyazaki wagyu. This is the Navarre Group operating at its highest level, and it shows. I started with market oysters on ice with champagne mignonette and cocktail sauce. I got a taste of the ocean in every slurp. Yes, eating oysters is noisy. Then the crab cake, and I do not say this lightly: it is one of the best crab cakes I have ever had, anywhere. Jumbo blue crab, barely held together, seared golden, sitting in a kimchi aioli with a bright pop of Peruvian sweet peppers on top. All crab, no filler games. Order it. Thank me later. The black cod was the star of the night. Miso glazed, sesame crusted, served over broccolini in a lemongrass dashi, and it was the most tender cod in the Midwest. Silky, rich, perfectly balanced between sweet and savory, the kind of plate where the table goes quiet for a second. If you order one entree here, make it this one. The grilled lobster tail came out a touch small for the price, but the flavor was all there, and whoever thought to serve the drawn butter over a tea light candle deserves a raise. The butter stays warm from the first dip to the last. Small detail, but elite execution. The grilled asparagus with verjus blanc and shaved Parmigiano Reggiano was simple and exactly appropriate alongside everything else. Dessert was a towering slice of layered chocolate cake with a birthday candle in it, rich without being heavy, and the right ending to the meal. I was given a card signed by the entire staff. Shoutout to the following personnel: Emily V, Jordan and the hostess. Each of them made this visit feel truly magical. Now the honest notes, because a real review has them. The lobster bisque missed very badly. It had the consistency of a potato soup and only the smallest trace of lobster. So, it is the one dish I would not order again. It is also the clearest opportunity for improvement on an otherwise stacked menu. Also, plan your arrival: parking is tight, and on busy nights you will want the valet. Book ahead, too. Prime time reservations here do not sit open. Bottom line: Cascade is the most elite dining experience in South Bend right now. Birthdays, anniversaries, client dinners, or just a night you want to feel like a celebrity, this is the room. I will be back. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Cascade. Everything I ordered was delicious. The scallops were cooked to perfection, and I enjoyed the sauce it was served with. Moreover, the pork chop and cod are both very nice entrees. The cod was tender and flaky, and the flavor of the miso glaze was a nice complement to the fish. The pork chop was also cooked nicely with a bit of sweetness from the peaches. The vibes of the restaurant were incredible as well. The outdoor seating faces the river, and I liked the lighting of the interior. Our server was also very friendly during our visit. First. This place is beautiful. Just stunning. Hands down the best ambiance of any restaurant I've been to in south bend. Service was good but not great. At the end of the night I asked for the check from the bartender and she forgot for around 5 minutes. Walked past me twice and got check for man across the bar. Took second bartender to actually take care of me. And the floor manager was busy talking with a friend at the bar for around 15 minutes. Got the burger thinking a steak house usually does a great burger. Well it really wasn't. Cooked ok, but lettuce and tomato and pickles were all very sub par and the bun was just not very good. Can get many other burgers in town that are better. Will come back for the ambiance and to try a streak. Hopefully they will do better with that. read more

Everything here is fantastic (but I have one gripe that I'll get to). Went here for my actual birthday dinner (we couldn't get into the restaurant on move in weekend and a Saturday night, so we settled for Sunday afternoon). The service was fantastic, even made a few jokes. The place is beautiful and the views are nice. Focaccia - $13 - I asked if this was house made bread, and they said yes, so I went with this over the Burrata appetizer. The bread was fantastic, and the whipped ricotta was delicious. It's simple but very good. 5/5 stars. Lobster Bisque - $15 - Good flavor, decent amount of lobster. I was pleasantly surprised how good this was. 5/5 stars. Cascade Salad - $9 or $14 - This was pretty good as well. A different family member ordered this and I was also pleasantly surprised again. It ALMOST makes me want to order it (if they didn't have lobster bisque). 5/5 stars. 16oz Ribeye with Black Truffle Butter - $78 + $4 - The sear was perfect, the medium rare cook was spot on, and the flavor couldn't be better (well, almost, because my Black Truffle Butter was more like wine butter). Here's my gripe, if you put something was Black Truffle Butter why on earth is there wine?! My body can't process alcohol (which is why I don't drink), and when I taste uncooked alcohol, all I taste is alcohol. So, this was my only gripe. I couldn't taste any truffle, just alcohol. I had to switch with my husband for parts of his New York Strip, and he took the parts of my steak that had the truffle butter. 5/5 stars, but the Truffle Butter 0/5 stars. 14oz New York Strip - $69 - Perfect sear, cook, and flavor. You really can't go wrong with the steaks here. 5/5 stars. Grilled Asparagus - $14 - Perfectly cooked, and not stringy. 5/5 stars. Au Gratin Potatoes - $14 - These potatoes everyone loved. Normally, I'm not a bread crumb topping person, but it works here. 5/5 stars. Mashed Potato - $12 - These are just typical steakhouse mashed potatoes. Smooth and good, you couldn't make them better, but they get outshined by all the other dishes. 5/5 stars. Creme Brulee - $9 - This was to die for. Whatever cream they use is so good. One of the best creme brulees you could ever get. 5/5 stars. I apologize for the lack of picture, apparently I was so excited that I just forgot to take one. My wife and I chose Cascade to celebrate our first date, a "few" years ago. I'm not "allowed" to say how many years. Suffice it to say, it's measured in decades. We were warmly greeted and handed a card, signed by all staff, to congratulate us. Very thoughtful! Taylor was our server. She was fantastic. Couldn't ask for better service all the way around. We started with the steak tartare and yellowtail crudo. The tartare was served with house chips and it was excellent. Nice garlic and scallion flavor. The crudo was in a sesame ponzu dressing and it was also excellent. For the mains I had the Texas Wagyu ribeye. Great sear and cooked perfectly. My wife had the halibut steak, with wilted Swiss chard and a lemon butter. It was also cooked perfectly. However, there were bones that weren't mentioned. Not a problem tho. Plus, because we mentioned that, that entree was discounted. Totally unasked for. Very much appreciated. We struggled with entree choices, as several sounded great. Happy with our choices. Dessert was a huge slice of chocolate cake and crème brûlée. The cake, while heavy in weight, was light, airy and moist. Knocked out of the park. The crème brûlée was also large and just wonderful. Nice location by the river and the dining room is very bright and nice. We were there for lunch during graduation weekend. The menu is impressive and the food also very delicious. The server seemed experienced and attentive. The only issue was that the two meal salads did not come out with the rest of the dishes. Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Cascade tonight, what a phenomenal experience! We arrived early to our reservation, but our table was ready and we were warmly greeted with an Anniversary card signed by the team and complimentary bubbles. Yessica was our server and did an amazing job guiding us through service. All courses were expertly timed, table reset after each course... the whole nine yards. The Pink Moon Oysters we fresh with a bright mignonette to compliment. The Yellowtail Crudo was flavored perfectly and we loved broth and roe. We both had steaks-- a filet and strip-- and both cooked and seasoned perfectly. We added lobster tail, crab oscar and split truffle Mac and cheese and grilled mushrooms. Everything was amazing. I had the seasonal Autumns End cocktail but subbed Mezcal for Reposado. As a 15 year bar veteran, their wine list was more than impressive and I was content enjoying my cocktail overlooking the river while dinner finished. What a beautiful dining space. My husband and I tried Cascade restaurant for our anniversary. We made a reservation on a Tuesday, which I was glad we did because it was very busy. When I went to the host we were seated right away at our reserved table. The tables were very close together in the section that we were in, but we made it work. When we got to our table, they gave us an anniversary card signed by the staff. I thought this was a very nice and genuine touch. The waitress also gave us free champagne glasses as a celebratory favor for our anniversary. She was very nice. During our time here, they were running a special where you could get a starter, main meal, and dessert. Overall, the deal was worth it. We both ordered the lobster bisque for our starter. The lobster bisque was good, but it was room temperature. We also both ordered the filet mignon with king crab for our main meal. I really enjoyed how they were both cooked, medium rare and they tasted very good. For our dessert, I chose the chocolate cake and my husband chose the crème brûlée. They were good classic desserts, and I would order again. The only downside that we had happened in this restaurant was we had ordered cocktails at the beginning of our dining experience and we did not receive them until over halfway through our main meal after asking multiple times. Overall, I did enjoy the food and I really loved the steak. This is not somewhere I would eat all the time due to the price, but it was wonderful for our anniversary.
