My wife and I went with my parents on a Friday night it was packed January 23, 2021. I hadn't been there ever but my parents have been going there a lot recently and are fans right now. I had the grilled shrimp it was great. My mom had the fried shrimp a very light batter, they were also excellent. Dad got liver and onions it was quite a plate full he ate most of it,liked it a lot. My husband and I read good reviews so decided to go here for date night-- it was alright but nothing special. Our waitress was very kind and attentive, quick to refill drinks. I ordered the beef roast. It was $12.99 and came with a salad and a soup, broccoli and mashed potatoes. Overall I think the portion was generous for the price. The salad was tasty, and the roast was very tender. However the broccoli was over steamed and mushy, and the potatoes were instant mash instead of real which was disappointing. I can say the staff is not used to dealing with more than a group of 10 as they weren't sure how to split the bill with everyone and made it more of a us problem . I will say this is not a kid friendly place as they don't have any kid menus options or kid choices on drinks but this was to be expected when checking reviews before hand. I was disappointed in not seeing drink options on the menu and when asking about alcoholic drinks i was told the bar is open. To say the least they where still very friendly for being low staffed and a little on the busy side. I ordered the Boom Boom shrimp which was a little surprising how good it was with a little heat kick to it. Main coarse was the Philly Cheese which which was a little bland on favor but got the job done. I've always wanted to try this place, but unfortunately my first attempt was a mistake. First thing I see is staff smoking a cigarette in the doorway next to a "no smoking within 8 feet" sign. Nice. :/ Got seated. 30 minutes pass. No service, no menus, no water. I'm thirsty and becoming increasingly unhappy. Waitress eventually hurries past, saying "be right with you". She wasn't. We got up and left. On the way out I politely let the manager know what happened and he apologized. Seems they were very short staffed. Some staff were rushing around, others were slowly walking around. Not sure what to think. I'll give them another try another day. I really DO want to try their food and drink. My daughter and I went to the Blue Lantern for dinner on a Saturday night. We ordered onion rings which we never got but we were not charged for them. My daughter ordered the lake perch, I wondered why she wasn't eating her dinner especially since fish is one of her favorites. When I sampled her dinner I noticed bones which I understand can be normal, but when looked at the fish at home in the light I noticed that the skin was still on the fish and when I took the skin off I pulled the bones out. It was like the fillets were not deboned at all which made the expensive dinner garbage. We ended up throwing the dinner in the trash. I have been here several times in the past over the years as this is my parents local cheers...literally. When you walk in they all know each other around the bar and have formed a bond here at the Blue (as the locals call it ;)) The people are all very friendly, the prices are reasonable and you are never left waiting for a drink! Last night, we sat at the bar and ordered the Bam Bam shrimp...delish. Five very plump shrimp flash fried and then doused in this creamy spicy sauce. Next up were the chicken fingers and fried mushrooms. The chicken fingers are phenomenal. The plate of mushrooms were heaping and had melted cheese sprinkled over the top. YUM. Last nights specials were the prime rib for $9.99 and the smothered steak for $11. The prime rib seemed to be a local fave. In addition to the bar, there is a large dining room that is usually quite busy on a Friday or Saturday night. OH, and lets not forget the best part about the Blue...Pull Tabs! $1 a piece with winnings up to $500 if you're lucky! On several occasions we have pulled a $100 and a $300. VERY fun! If you're in the area looking for a fun place to check out definitely stop in at the Blue. Who knows, you might just be a new addition to the Cheers club they have formed there. There were tons of signs saying you can't smoke in the establishment (tacky) and yet the place clearly had an undertone of smoky smell that must have lingered from whenever they made the transition. Food: 2/5 Hmm crackers and weird cheep cheese as a snack? What happened to just bread? The pizza was beyond awful and tasted just like the jiffy crust you buy for 75 cents. Our waitress was kind but seemed too busy to refill our drinks. Had to wait until our food was brought out to get a refill. Ordered the White Fish - supposedly battered and fried. It was more like fish through straight into the fryer. The batter was very nonexistent with no flavor, got the Lantern potatoes again no seasoning what so ever. My boyfriend got a build your own burger - after taking one bite it completely fell apart on him. There was more ketchup and mustard then there was burger. Sadly to say the only thing that kept me from giving it one star was the chili - great flavor and texture. Will not be returning - would not recommend. read more

My family has been here several times. We almost always take up a corner of the bar and settle in for a good time. Order a drink from the friendly bar tenders, where they always greet you with a smile and your name (and if your my dad, a glass of Crown). We usually end up ordering a couple appetizers, and my absolute favorite is the italian stuffed peppers. The peppers are long green peppers, stuffed with italian sausage and topped with lots of cheese. They are so yummy and have just a hint of heat. I also enjoy their chicken fingers too. If we are really hungry, we order an entree, which is a great value because you get a salad, soup, and your meal. I have gotten the prime rib special many times before and it is very good. The fish dinners are also really good. Their bar is nicely set up and is stocked with everything, and everything is reasonably priced (Grey Goose and soda for $4.44, YES please!). They also offer a "One-a-day" drink club for around $30 - $35 dollars, which gets you 1 free drink per day. I think that is an excellent value. But onto my favorite thing at the Blue....pull tabs. We have spent numerous occasions pulling the tabs and, seemingly more often than not, pulling out a $100, $200, or even $300 winner. That sure spices up the evening :) All in all, I love coming here with my family when I am in town, and recommend it highly. read more

It really reminds me of place we would go out with my grandparents after church about 3 times per year (back when going out to eat was a big deal). The food was ok and the prices are decent. Portion sizes are large, especially since you get a soup, salad, and potato with every nearly every entree. My steak arrived undercooked, so I sent it back for more time on the grill.
