I started with 1 *, I will up it to 2* for the service only- at least through the food delivery- White tablecloths and high expectations. Amuse bouchée- melon and goat cheese, were we in for a treat???!!! As reviews mentions the service is great, Isabella took great care of us, we were worried when she disappeared in the back with the "manager" never to be seen again, not there to close up our table, not there to offer us birthday wishes not there to finish dinner very odd. She asked how the food was, we told her is was overcooked. The manager was listening in - then she disappeared. The recommendation for wine was perfect and that's where the good ends. We ordered tuna on a wonton, which was tasteless lacking flavor, salt, zero umami! The oysters, East Coast were raw, so not hard to screw that one up. We doubled this order for 3 people. We ordered the duck breast - we were told that we could not have the skin crispy, and the duck medium rare as a chef would be unable to do that. So we decided crispy skin and medium cooked duck would be OK. What was served was two slices of duck-contributor yes, two slices. Did we pay for 1/3 of the duck breast? No, we were charged for the full duck breast - Shrink-a-nomics. We also ordered the 'pork ribeye', to temperature, or MR. What we were brought was a grilled-grey-pork loin no ribeye, no fat, no bone. This was served over what was supposed to be polenta. But it was lumpy and flavorless. The flavor profiles of both the duck and the pork were missing, the sauce the jois, everything was off. We had a special signed card to greet us for a birthday welcome- but no offer of dessert or a menu or anything- just a don't let the door hit you on the way out. read more

Ambiance: Artisan is a nice upscale restaurant in the heart of the historic downtown Elkhart. They have a large walk in wine cooler in the front of the restaurant by the entrance. The tables have clean linen and the staff are dressed accordingly to the vibe. Service: The staff here are wonderful! Our server was attentive and friendly. When they brought out our entrees, they had a staff carry an entree each! So we had about 8+ members serving our dishes to us. Pretty impressive! Food: The food was absolutely delicious! Each and every dish we had here was spectacular! My favorite from what I ordered was the steak chimichurri and the cauliflower. My husband ordered the duck and I had a bite. It was also fantastic! Recommend making a reservation in advance, but my party did not and we were still able to be seated late during a mid-week evening. I went for the duck for my entree and it was nice. We recently went for our second visit and this place delivers for refined/upscale dining. The ambiance is nice; staff are knowledgeable of the menu and service is prompt and polite. We had the cauliflower veloute, miso black cod, pork ribeye, smoked carrots, and olive oil cake. All dishes were great, but the vegetable dishes were standouts with their flavor. My wife requested the duck have crispy skin, a common preparation for the thick, fatty skin. The server assured it would be accommodated. The duck arrived without the request and without setting the plate down, we requested the crisping. The server then returned saying the chef could not honor the request and suggested we order something else. i.e. the chef would not prepare a dish to meet a request, only his/her personal tastes. The lobster bisque was very over salted (had to toss it). Not sure how anyone didn't notice that before serving it to patrons.... The steak I got was good and well cooked, but the Brussel sprouts were burned in parts that I had to avoid. Worst of all I got scallops on the side of my steak and one had a strong taste of ammonia which I spit out and threw the rest away. Last night we had an exquisite dinner at the Artisan! Their choices of wine by the glass or bottle was impressive. I had steak tartare for starters. Well prepared and nicely done. My main course was Shrimp Risotto. It was with a number of large shrimp and a tasty risotto. I finished with a strawberry shortcake. They food ordered by wife and my friends was equally delicious. Soup was baby food consistency, Duck was good not great. The other main dish also had a purée that was very lack luster. We opted out of dessert for this reason. The manager/host or Maitre d, would not leave us alone. We were trying to have a nice date, but were constantly being asked how the food was. Even after the server would ask. It was an interruption in conversation at the middle and end of each course. I don't mind the occasional question, but please don't linger when we are on a date. My husband and I went to the Artisan on Oct 28th to celebrate the upcoming birth of our son. It was our first "fancy" dinner. The atmosphere was romantic and warm. The staff made us feel like the most special guests in the restaurant. They were welcoming, attentive, and kind. They recommended my husband a beer to pair with his meal since he is not a big on wine, and it was a great fit. They also made me a delightful mocktail.
