Nick's Patio - skillet - Diners Near Me - South Bend, Indiana

Been going here for many years and this was the worst visit. The manager on Friday 3/13/26 was the main frustration. Not sure what her name is, but she was taller with brown hair in ponytails and any guest that night couldn't miss her. She was constantly talking very loudly at the staff, dropping f bombs, and acting condescending towards anyone she spoke to. With a table of kids nearby I watched the parents all respond to her. She was rude beyond reason and acting so self important it makes me not want to go back. That said, this is Nicks Patio, an institution. I'll try it once more, but with caution. Though they are under new management the food and serving staff are still solid. Mimi took care of me and she couldn't have been better. Sitting through the loud language and awkward management style was too much. read more

There was hair in my soup. All they offered to compensate me was a free dessert. Why would I want a free dessert from the same restaurant that serves hair? Restaurants like Nicks Patio need to make sure they are serving CLEAN food while charging before people even get their food. Whoever isn't wearing a hair net allowed to work and get paid in the food industry need fired if management even cared enough to enforce cleanliness. read more

Possibly the worst restaurant I have been to. It was dirty and sticky and smelled bad. The server was very rude. It took an hour to get our food, and it arrived cold. The mashed potatoes tasted like rubbing alcohol. However, they have really good dinner rolls. read more

I have been driving by Nick's patio for quite a while living near South Bend and thought I would give it a try. The inside, what can I say, this place has been rode rough and put away wet. It's really in need of refurbishment. The server was very sweet the food a Reuben sandwich was just okay the french fries were very good. It came with a complimentary bowl of potato soup which was nice. The bathrooms, they weren't filthy but they certainly weren't clean. All together my bill including tip for just the Reuben sandwich was 16 something little pricey I might go back because it's open 24 hours. read more

Nick's Patio seems to be sort of lost in time...The menu has a lot of options, and it seems to have some personality that the actual restaurant seemed to lack...which was disappointing. Other reviews gave the impression that this was a place with a lot of character, but for us it was more "meh" than unique or exciting. If you're looking for a good value, this might be a good place for you. The portions are big, and the meals often have included salad, bread, etc. The food itself is okay but (imo) nothing to write home about. My dining partners felt the same way. Service was fine, again nothing special, but they were kind enough. The host/cashier could have maybe been a little more excited to see us, either on the way in or out, but based on the rest of the experience that just seems like par for the course. The interior is straight out of 1992, which was something, but it just seems like it's been 30ish years since they've had an update. The only thing I noticed that troubled me is that there was something going on with the acoustic-tile drop ceiling that looked really nasty, like something leaking and maybe some black mold. I'm not saying don't go - it was perfectly adequate - but very much middle of the road. Great value for your dollars, just a little boring and outdated. read more

Been here twice with my family and honestly it has been just alright each time. We have heard it was good, but we aren't impressed. Just alright. Soups were bland to us. The sandwiches are fine. Nothing screamed out I love this place. It was just okay. read more

I am thankful I live near Nick's and have for years. I have long been a fan of this place. It indeed has my comfort foods [even chicken livers!]. At this moment I am actually eating my current favorite, the Friday mac & cheese special. I have been ordering & gulping down this dish every Friday for many months. Nick's makes it just the way I like it. It's not a sloshy, creamy, soupy mixture. It has more body to it --- and lots of cheese on top! For me, it's perfect! I have gotten to know most of the staff at the desk who bring me my carry-outs and they are terrific. Have never had a problem. I even have out-of-town visitors who ask for a trip to Nick's when they come to visit. It may not be "fancy" in decor, but it does have great food choices and for very reasonable prices. read more

We just wanted to say we had a fantastic time eating at Nick's Patio this morning ! The portions were huge - we definitely got our money's worth - and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Only tiny little thing: my eggs were a bit...temperature-challenged. Just a heads-up for next time! Otherwise, top marks! read more

Nick's Patio - Breakfast - Diners Near Me - South Bend, Indiana

We haven't been to Nick's Patio for over 10 years. We decided to try them tonight because we've seen posts on social media that claim Nick's is one of the best around. Well, we disagree. Service was horrible. We sat for about 5 minutes before our server, Beng, came over to greet us and take our order. After serving our drinks, she took our order. One thing I thought was odd is that the sandwiches and burgers include a cup of soup. French fries are an additional $1.95. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings, we both got burgers and chicken noodle soup. The onion rings were borderline burnt, no seasoning, no flavor. Thank goodness for the delicious ranch dressing that came with them. The "homemade" soup was bland, no salt or pepper, spiral noodles were mushy. I ordered the mushroom Swiss burger, mayo on the side. No seasoning, again! The burger was quality meat, not greasy. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper just to draw out some flavor from the mushrooms. My husband ordered a DOUBLE cheese burger. She brings him a single. His burger was just as bland as mine. She said she misunderstood. She was not paying attention because she seemed like she was in a hurry and they weren't very busy. She brought out the food to the couple in the booth next to us and she "misunderstood" his order too. So she had to go back and get what he ordered. I didn't think to get pictures but the pictures would have been deceiving. The food looked good but was lacking in flavor. I can't say that we would return. read more

my husband and I came in for lunch on a Friday. We were greeted and seated quickly. the restaurant was busy but not overwhelming. Our waitress was friendly and offered us drinks right away. Menu is huge! It was hard to decide! My husband got the breakfast burger with fries. I ordered a tuna melt on sourdough with cheddar. Our food arrived fast and looked so good! my sandwich looked crisp. and golden. My fries were amazing! Hot fresh and tasty. My sandwich was 2/10 for me. The tuna was dry and very fishy, like unusually fishy. I did not eat it. I ate the bread only. I have never turned down tuna before, so it was definitely not good. Husband says burger was a 6/10 "flavorful" is his description. He said he most likely would not order again. however loved the fries. Pricing was fair for the amount you receive. overall, this restaurant was OK, most likely would not go out of my way to return there. read more

Nick's Patio is locally owned and open late. It's prices are reasonable. I advise against ordering off the dinner menu. However the breakfast is award winning. The skillets (and coffee) are what keep me coming back! The place is clean but basic in terms of decor. read more

Nice place to pop into for a quick lunch. Good club sandwich but the winner was the soup! I had the bean soup and it was the best I ever had. My lunch partner had chicken noodle and that was good also, both cups were served piping hot the way soup should be. The club sandwich and fries were served quickly and fries were hot and not greasy. read more

Just plain diner food, but clean, tasty, straightforward. Not trying to be sometimes they aren't. Today I wanted breakfast for lunch. Flying all day, needed comfort food. Ordered a Greek omelet, add gyro meat, with dry toast and potatoes. 5 minutes and it was on the table. Tidy, pleasant to look at and taste, filling. Felt real good. Big menu, lots of choices. read more

I love Nick's Patio for a reliably good meal great service. We are there over the past week and it was the first time I had a meal which was a "2". The gyro sandwich was flavorless. The meat looked like super thinly sliced lunchmeat .... like bologna in quality. No seasonings in the meat noticeable at all and an unpleasant texture. No traditional natural garlic flavoring. The white sauce, traditionally tzatziki, tasted like thick sour cream. No shredded cucumber, lemon juice, fresh garlic, or yogurt. You could glob it on but it is supposed to a "sauce." So there wasn't the compliment to the sandwich's normal highly-seasoned spiciness. The tomatoes and red onion were fresh. The pita was fresh, although it not an authentic pita with pillowy air pockets in the leavened bread. It clumped around the meat and onions but didn't curl around the filling like an envelope. The last time I ordered a gyro at Nick's, it was fabulous, but that was maybe 2022 or 2023. Hope this feedback brings back a more authentic and enticing entree. Enjoyed the cream of broccoli soup. Jackie was a great service person. My husband liked his usual BLT sandwich on rye. Great ambience for a relaxing dinner. read more

Pie's and then breakfast in that order lol We've been here a few times while in town and every single time the breakfast is delicious. But let me tell you the yummy treat up at the register when you are leaving that's the spot to hit up. And it's pretty big lots of parking which is a plus. I came out for breakfast for my birthday. My favorite breakfast place was closed, so tried Nicks I asked if they had thick cut bacon, she said they had the good bacon. It was neither. But at $1 a slice, I ate it. Their coffee is extremely weak. Definitely not worth the $19 plus tip I just spent. Biblers Original Pancake House is a much better option. read more

Me and my girlfriend love the food here. Amazing service and quick. Highly recommend!

First impressions: bathroom and eating area are VERY clean! Always a great first impression! Our waitress was with us immediately after sitting down with waters and drink requests. She was very friendly and greeted us with all smiles! I got country fried steak, eggs over easy, and wheat toast. The country fried steak was one of the best I've had. Very meaty, tender steak, with a perfect crispy crust! Eggs were perfect and their American fries were delicious and crispy! Overall the breakfast was delish and can't wait to come back for lunch and also the amazing service! read more

Great menu, has everything. Very reasonable prices. The meals are delicious and they give you a lot! Real nice service too.

I had a few reservations about Nick's after reading about bad service and harassment on Yelp. Having gone there multiple times now at varying hours during the day and night, I can say that this diner is fantastic. Wonderful service, great food, great prices, open 24/7, and all day breakfast! Definitely worth checking out. read more

Dirty restaurant with subpar, frozen Food Service quality food is what they plate up. Its good when all else around is closed. Staff seem to all be against each other than working together. I ordered the Sunday special Beef Stroganoff it was a very pasty sour cream flour base topped over fettuccine pasta; it was truly inedible, for my taste. The salad I ordered was served with rancid poppyseed dressing; so it left a bad rancid seed taste. It's definitely not American home cooking and that's what I was looking for since I was traveling through. read more
