We have been going here for years and always had pretty good service but tonight was a totally different story. Went with my wife, kids and grandkids. We were there before the dinner rush, as a matter of fact - it was so empty, the hostess told to sit anywhere we want. To wrap this up, three tables turned over and two additional tables got their food before our order was complete. The only thing that came out in a reasonable time was a kids spaghetti. This had to be shared with our other two grands because their food did not hit the table close to an hour after we ordered it. We asked a few times where our food was and no explanation as to why. No one came to check on us and we finally got our food. No attempt at service recovery was offered except a free desert, we did not want to be there any longer. We actually had to ask for our bill because everyone was avoiding us since the service was so bad. Haven't been here in literally 20 years. It is/was a fave of a friend of mine, which is how we discovered it. The one thing I remembered was that their beer battered fish was the bomb. So....family outing. And of course, they were out of beer battered fish. My son and I both had the Bob's Big Burger and my wife had the pork tenderloin sandwich. Ordered onion rings for an appetizer, but they ended up being dessert, as they did not arrive until I was done with my burger. My wife said her tenderloin was very good. My burger? Meh. It was a good burger, but not memorable. Honestly, the best part of the meal for me was the side of baked beans. Quite tasty. Service was very snappy, plates were cleared promptly, and beverage refills offered more than once. In short, if this were a place right around the corner, I would not object to stopping in every now and then. It's got a nice neighborhood-joint vibe that I typically seek out. RIP Bob's 19th Hole After today's latest terrible experience, you are dead to me. I don't know what happened to the quaint old dive I loved so much. Is it new management or plain old apathy? They always seem to be hiring, which is understandable in the post Covid era in which we live. However, there has to be at least a couple of kind, attentive and customer service oriented servers out there. Bob's has not been able to find one. It's a shame because the food is consistently delicious. Despite my love of the chicken Philly with a side of the remarkable twice baked potatoes, I can't put myself through the poor service again. We walked into the restaurant and went ahead and sat ourselves. A server walked up to a table of 3 gentlemen whom she seemed to know because she chatted with them for a while. She then walked into the bar area, came back to the dining room, walked right past us without making eye contact and checked on another table. As she walks past us again, I attempted to gain her attention. As she kept walking away she said she would be with us in a minute. We wait, and wait, and wait. At this point, we still don't have menus. I go into the bar where the server is yucking it up with her coworkers and then gets on the phone. I ask the person behind the counter if I could at least grab a couple of menus while we wait. She tells me no because if we have menus the servers will be confused and not know who needs to take our table. WHAT?! This speaks to my point of unprofessional behavior. The server, while still on the phone call, says "I told you I'd be there in a minute." Nice. We left. Btw, I was a server for 15 years, a head server and a trainer. Very disappointing dinner tonight. I have been going to Bob's for years, I ordered a Reuben sandwich tonight and received a lunch meat sandwich. I questioned the server and was told she has been working there for 11 years and it has always been served this way, I have been going to this establishment for years and have never had a Reuben served this way! A waitress came over with menus for both tables. She left then came back with waters and left again. Both times made eye contact with me. A great place out in the country a bit. Just a bit on the noisy side because of exhaust fan above grill area. There is a small dining area that may be a bit quieter! The beer was cold and the food hot! Just the way it should be! Prices were fair for the amount of food that comes with your order. Usually when I dine out, I tend to choose either restaurants that are hot on the scene or exotic ones. Since I know how to cook, going to standard all-American restaurants usually doesn't readily come to mind as an option. But then there was one particular day when waying out different dining options for two, as usual I looked at the more exotic restaurants. Then I made a suggestion to my dining companion, but he said very firmly and without hesitation "Nope...where going to Bob's 19th Hole." with a smile on his face. I have heard good reviews about this place, but I thought "I hope something there stands out". We then arrived, and I instantly felt at home, realizing we were at a one of those greasy spoons. While waiting I could smell the different meats and comfort foods being prepared and got excited. Regarding diners, only occasionally do I dine at them, because though I love greasy spoon food I don't want the greasy spoon calories. Yet from time to time I get an itch for their food. My other hang up is diners such a these can prepare very rich foods that are heavy. Once we were seated, I browsed their menu, and was pleased. I noticed they have a nice selection sandwiches offering both panni's with nice veggie options as well as richer sandwiches such as deep-fried Cod, and Philly cheese steak. I was also surprised at the number of salad options, making Bob's dinner also friendly for those who want to eat on the lighter side. For starters I ordered their garlic toast (with the option of cheese, and or cheese &peperoni) accompanied with marinara sauce. And for my entrée (simply titled) "Chicken Breasts" which were grilled chicken covered with melted parmesan cheese served over wild rice. My companion had their Battered cod, served with cheesy baked mashed potatoes. When my appetizer arrived though simple in presentation, there was nothing simple about the taste!!! Many times regarding simple foods such as pizzas, breadsticks etc it is not what a restaurant makes but how they make it. My cheesy garlic bread was delicious. I don't know what type of bread they used (being homemade or not) but it didn't taste generic. Light buttery, cheesy, and not too soft or crispy I had to force myself to hold back to save room for the main course. Later our entrées arrived though I didn't get to taste my companion's the crispy golden battered fish the look on his face said it all. When I bit into my chicken breasts, every bite was flavorful, rich and moist with a subtle contrast of flavors. But unexpectedly the food wasn't greasy or weighty and didn't leave me feeling weighed down. Which for me is best of both worlds' food with both texture and taste without having that stuffed feeling afterwards. Though Bobs 19th Hole is all-American, I like that they serve food catering to a variety of diets. Moreover, the servers offered great hospitality when executing service. Even the customers sitting next to us had happy smiles on their faces, and both customers and staff acted like they knew us. Like that 80's sit-com Cheers "Where everyone knows your name". I was pleased with the casual homey atmosphere, but especially the food!!!! Bob's is located on the outskirts of South Bend, but despite your location I highly recommend this establishment. Especially for those that want a down homestyle meal, but don't have the desire to get down in their kitchen and make one. read more

I love this place! I've been coming here since 2008'ish and it's always good. They have a large menu with a lot of variety. Friday fish special is very plentiful and very good. Try the twice baked potatoes, they're great. I just started getting the boom boom shrimp appetizer and it's fantastic. My new favorite is the ultimate pork tenderloin that's inside of a grilled cheese sandwich. Just tried the pizza today and thought it was pretty good. Very thin and crispy crust and toppings were good. If you can't find something on the menu to make you happy then you're probably a miserable person to be around. read more

We have been coming here for years and the last couple of times the food hasn't been as good as it use to be. The burger was greasy and the bun was flat that it was on. Even though it seems to always be packed at lunch time your in and out in no time. The food is amazing as well. The menu has that nice home cooking flare. The first time there I got the Ham and Bean soup and it was as good if not better than my moms (don't let her know!!) The second time around I got the sausage Philly on special... again amazing. Honestly, the best part of this restaurant is the side choices... it's just like I'm a kid again! Cottage cheese, applesauce, cole slaw.... What a disappointment...First of all, why are the waitstaff such assholes? Is it considered good service to limit your customer interaction to 5 words? When I asked my party what the deal was they both said "oh, it's just how they are here, don't get offended." Noted. My food was bland, I had a burger and it was something I could have made in my own kitchen. My husbands food was bad. After being a customer here for probably close to 30 years, today was our last visit. Not because of bad service, the wait staff is excellent. Not because the food was bad, almost everything we have ordered has been good. Were not coming back because of the new owner, someone who apparently doesn't think the restaurant business is a people business, someone not will to accommodate people with special diet needs. My wife has multiple medical issues and just can't eat the quantity of food they normally serve and frequently orders from the childrens/seniors menu, the owner won't permit this, this is the only place we go to that has an issue, and we eat out alot, the other restaurants acknowledge us as regulars and accommodate her. On to me, I eat a plant based diet, only a few things I can order here, the so called healthy choice salad? I used to order the veggie stir fry, they no longer serve that, yet it remains on the menu. I realize this is not the place to go to eat healthy, but more and more people are learning the dangers of the Standard American Diet (SAD). I can go to Wings and get a meatless burger with raw veggies as a side, it's a sports bar?? Our average bill here is between $26-$28, we tip well because the waiters do a good job. Found this gem on Yelp and stopped in on our way from MI to KY. Our server Payton was super sweet and did a great job. Every item we ordered was fantastic! Wisconsin cheese curds we're great. Loaded waffle fries had plenty of cheese and bacon for every bite. Chili was delicious. Cinnamon applesauce had chunks of apples and was good. Burger was bigger than the bun (rarely see that anywhere but home) and was fantastic. Onion rings were good. Mostaccioli was great also.
