Hands down the best brewery in the area. The location sucks just a little for anyone not in Granger. But if you make the trek you're rewarded with a super cozy atmosphere and some of the best craft beer in the area. IPAs are their jam but once fall/winter rolls around there are some downright amazing porters and stouts. read more

This is a microbrewery. There is seating inside, outside, and at the bar. The bartender was really nice. We each just had one beer, the Peanut Butter Brown Ale. It was so good. Friendly atmosphere. Seemed like a regular watering hole for a number of the people there. A couple of TVs with basketball games on (no sound), while music played. Bar tender switched the game at my request. I ordered the specialty flight, which came with three 5 oz. tasters and cheesecake bites. I'm a sucker for the (D)IPAs, but it was all tasty. This place is ok. Has a little bit of a hipster feel to it, which is whatever, for me. But, seems like the type of place the locals might frequent, and that's about it. Pretty small inside, limited bar seating, with a few chairs, tables, and couches. The red ale I got was very good. The grilled cheese sandwich, chips, and pretzels were just ok. I remember the cheese for dipping the pretzels in which was very good, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. The Evil Czech and Crooked Ewe are far superior to this. read more

This microbrew has blends that compare to the SF Bay Area craft beer scene. Perhaps I got lucky coming around winter holidays, but their offerings were all so unique and delicious! I had the chance to try their Strawberry Mango milkshake (English ipa) that tasted so sweet it could turn my plum-wine-only mom to the beer side. Their 574 pale was crips and hoppy as well! But two blends blew me out of the water: Drain the swamp, and Thai PA. Despite its name, the Swamp has imo the right hint of hop with pineapple flavors coming through. It does not leave the dry finish typical of an IPA, inviting more sips. Careful cause it's an 8%! And their Thai PA. The fresh blend of lemongrass really makes this beer stand out. I ended up taking away a pack of 4 to share with my fam. The atmosphere accommodates parties as much as a cozy pair, offering bar area to catch a game, tables to host board games, and a comfy couch! This is a 100% awesome off the beaten track location. I came here on a whim to catch up with a friend and at first, I wasn't even sure I was in the right place since it seemed to isolated! Suffice to say, I'll definitely come back to hangout and look forward to their future recipes. read more

I've been waiting for a brewery that makes excellent full flavored beer to open in the South Bend area. Visited Bare Hands on their opening night and they are exactly what I was hoping for. There were several beers on tap and I tried the hybrid pale ale and the stout. They were both out of this world. The hybrid pale ale was loaded with citrus hop flavors and aromas and was super complex with a 5.5% abv. Several other beers on tap as well. I posted a picture on yelp that shows what was currently on what is on deck. That should give you an idea of the wide variety of styles they are going to be making. Belgian style beers all the way to double ipa's with everything between. On opening night they were serving some snacks, but I was told by the owners that they plan on adding sandwiches soon to the menu. If you are into drinking well made beers in a relaxed atmosphere, Bare Hands is for you. read more

This brewery produces some serious beer. The pales and IPAs are world class and on par with their neighbors to the west, 3 Floyd's. The Thai.P.A is very well done with just a glimmer of lively Thai spices underneath a buoyant hoppy, tropical attack. The Galaxy single hop IIPA is out of this world. I really enjoy that most of their beers pack a nice ABV punch. I have never tasted anything overly boozy, just well-rounded and high on flavor. The growler prices, even for the lower ABV beers, are a bit high at $15. Colored stars denote the prices, from $15 to a $25. Well worth spending after the 3 hour drive from Indy but definitely a luxury. The fellow even wraps the caps in electrical tape, a useful but rare thing for growler-fillers to do! Though tucked far back in a boring industrial area, the inside of the tasting room is quite cozy and welcoming. read more

I adore Bare Hands. I first met Chris, the owner and brewmaster, at Brew at the Zoo in 2011. I loved his beer and what he was trying to do - bring a local beer scene to South Bend and Granger and create fun, innovative brews. Fast forward a few months and the pub opened off the beaten path in Granger. We walked in one weekend night and have never looked back. With some typical beers (cream ale) in the rotation and lots of things you've never heard of, you're more likely to find a new favorite. The Thai PA is what has made this place legendary. The oatmeal stout is slightly sweet with some hints of coffee. You can buy a growler of your favorite to take home with you. Which we do. A lot. We've moved away from the area, but this is still a must-stop when we're in town. read more

Cool little place-- the milkshake IPA was delicious, and I'm not a DIPA fan! Pretzels and cheese were yummy snack food with the Yelp check-in deal. Service wasn't exactly welcoming, as we walked in new and unsure how to go about or where to order-- that aspect could be improved. There are limited cozy seats, but we snagged a little couch next to the games. Atmosphere could be improved; beers are really good. After posting this review, got a personal apology from the owner for the service. Impressed by the response time and love to see contact with customers! Clearly the best beer brewed anywhere. I'm almost reluctant to proclaim this, as great reviews tend to increase business, and increased business occasionally results in changes to the business model. I love BHB exactly as it is--low key and the best beer money can buy. Yeah, yeah, there are some damned good IPAs out there, but Westy is the gold standard. Galaxy is better than any other beer I've tried, and I HAVE tried many. Mail Order Bride is the pinnacle of Russian Imperial Stouts. My favorite beer, however, is Joe England. Sadly they don't brew it often enough to suit me. In summary--great work, Bare Hands. Keep it up and DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. read more

Been here a few times throughout the year as I come up to visit the hub's family. This is quickly becoming our to-go spot for a brew. Dan is my man behind the bar. First time we came up we really got to know him and some of the regulars there. The next time we were back in town like four months later, he totally remembered our names and where we lived. Love that. They have various types of brew from light to dark, hop heavy to not so hop heavy (not sure how to be witty on that one!). My fav is Mail Order Bride, a sexy Russian Imperial Stout that has just the right amount of bitter for me. My husband's favs include Honey Badger Thai.P.A. I've had them at a few brew fests and they are getting a following in the Midwest, which is great! It's a small space and we were here the night before Thanksgiving meeting up with friends in town (the obligatory beer before the feast) and it definitely jives. Other times we've been here have been afternoon or evening. They have some tvs to catch games and a few food options for when you get a bit hungry. It is off the beaten path, but they exciting part is they are opening a brewpub in DTSB this next year by the Cove-that'll be worth checking out. I'll keep coming back to chat with Dan, bringing brews to swap with the brewers, and enjoying the great beers they keep coming up with! read more

I personally wasn't awed by this place. It's cool but the atmosphere isn't for me. It's a small building in a strip and there was plenty of seating upon our arrival. It reminded me of a bar by my house in that it's small & you have to go up to the bar & order. The only difference was that the owners at the one by my home were friendlier. That's not dating the people at this place weren't, they were just... working I guess. The beer was good. I ordered the Kitchen Sink and of my friends they enjoyed mine the most. They all thought the rest of the brews were "nothing special". As far as we knew they only offered a daily food special, which was a Chicago dog. Finally, a brewery that actually cares about the quality of their beer. The place is small, but the atmosphere is terrific, even at 1pm. The bar was already packed! The Thai PA had great citrus flavor and mouthfeel (hee, hee). The Stout was outstanding, lots of dark, roasty flavor. They even gave us a round of baklava and and a bowl pretzels with mustard. Awesome. I don't know if "family friendly" is appropriate, but I really appreciated that my 15 month old could hang out with me and my wife in table area. I love Barehands! So many fun brews that never disappoint. The Thai IPA is one of my favorites.... I also love Chubble Dubble and their 574 as well. The beers always taste right on point with the style and the fun twist of flavors they add always seem to pop through in just the right amount. I'm a big fan! Not to mention-- they always have the best looking booth at all the local beer fests ;) I visited a couple days ago.... and on top of all that excellent quality... I really noticed how the staff seemed to really care about the beer and brand. They also seemed to know many of their customers on a first name basis which was really cool. I love going to the tap room and will continue to speak highly of them whenever talking local craft breweries. Barehands is a must visit for craft brew lovers. read more

I'd probably give Bare Hands a 3.5/5 if I could. Let's start with the perks: the bartender was friendly and helpful, the pretzels and cheese was yummy and SUCH a generous portion for only $2, and the beer selection had a decent variety. The cons: the decor was very dated...not like divey dated, more of a early 2000's vibe, their was only one bartender and the bar area was very crowed (on a Friday at 5 PM) so it was a bit of a process to get a beer. Overall, I did like this brewery because it had a old school feel and you could tell the bartender was passionate about his beer. read more

This place is really off the beaten track in Granger, but if you find it, plan on sticking around for more than 1 beer. Tasting room has tables (equipped with pretzels and mustard), couch, and TV. Decorations are a little sparse, but they just opened 3 weeks ago! Owner was really friendly! We wandered in for a pint around 9:00 PM, closing time was posted as 10:00, as but business was rolled in a little later, people were still there when we left at 11:00. I had the Thai-PA (citrusy!) and IPA, both of which I really enjoyed. I really don't think you can go wrong with $5 a pint for some quality brews. read more

We've been here a handful of times over the course of the past few years. Generally the service and beers have been decent enough to warrant a return visit when we are in town. This past visit though was the nail in the coffin. We arrived about 8:30 on a Friday night and were surprised to find it mostly empty. We sat at the bar, ordered our beer and looked over the menu. (It is my understanding that they have a caterer handle their food.) That night they had a smoked chicken quarter (leg & thigh) with a cherry chipolte BBQ sauce. We ordered 2 and waited. and waited and waited. after about 20 minutes we asked the bartender if he had put in the order, the look on his face clearly stated he had not. So Ok still no biggie. (I want to mention that this night they were live streaming a Phish concert from NYC and the entire staff seemed a little...out of it.) Anyway we were sitting at the bar and they finally bring us our chicken. I cut into the joint and it bled. Not just bled but it practically clucked at me. It was not done, not hardly at all. I called the bartender over and pointed out it 1) was bleeding 2) it was still cool in the center 3) the meat was firm and clinging to the bone (this chicken that has supposedly been smoked for 14 hours) sigh. Look please don't assume that your customers don't know anything about smoked meats. The smoke ring that you tried to tell me the redness was goes from the OUT IN not from the bone out. The red blood was not from the bbq sauce. I am not an idiot. The manager on duty was so dismissive it was really insulting. Fortunately when he left the original bartender that took our order sheepishly apologized and took one of them off our bill (so we still had to pay for 1 raw chicken dinner) Sorry Bare Hands there is nothing you brew that is worth going back for. read more
