Sat at the bar, served with distinction by Ellie, who was pulled in umpteen directions yet still gave amazing recommendations and took great care of me. Cauliflower? YES. Chicken Caprese salad? From our perspective - RUN, Don't Walk to have a meal & drinks at Iron Shoe Distillery! While we had hoped to sit outside with our Golden Retriever (the staff wished we could too) it was a rainy day when we stopped in. We opted to sit at one of the tall tables in the bar area and Katie was fun to have as our server. Katie does a great job inquiring about your preferred tastes when asked about the cocktails. I truly enjoyed my Clementine Rosemary Smash before & with my lunch. She suggested The Weekend for my post lunch cocktail since we weren't in a hurry to leave. I enjoyed both drinks. My husband and I split the Sweet & Salty Burger and it was awesome! Katie said she was glad we chose that burger and again she was right. This place has the best cauliflower wings ever ever ever. I was there for a quick little meet up with a friend so we didn't try a lot of food but when I tell you those truffalo wings had my toes curling oh my god!! I feel so sad that I wasn't able to get a pic. We also had nachos and Brussels sprouts, both of which were delicious. They have a very interesting drink menu with flavor combos that I had never seen before. I had the Tropical Josephine which I could feel in my body was strong, but I couldn't taste it so I'd call that a win :) read more

We went for some drinks and lunch, seemed busy but not overly crowded as there were a few open tables. Ordered drinks that came quickly, however, had to find server to order our food. Once ordered we waited almost an hour for our food before we asked how long it would be, the waitress said they haven't started our ticket and there's 4 tables orders in front of us waiting for their food. Ridiculous- our waitress was short and gave us no heads up about how long it would be nor did she check in on us while waiting for food. We canceled our order and ended up paying for our drinks and leaving. None of the staff apologized. Seems like a fun place but not a good experience at all. Got advice from a Michigander a few years ago: "If you want good burgers, go to a distillery or brewery." With Iron Shoe, this rings true. Their burgers and fries are amazing. Went with a group of 8 people and everyone loved their meals. Service was wonderful and they went above and beyond to make our birthday dinner work out nicely. Loved my Triple B burger. We stopped in on the 4th of July. We called ahead because we had a very large group. The service was great. The bartenders were very friendly and turned out drinks quickly. If you're looking for the worst possible service in Niles this is your place. Waited over 10 minutes to be acknowledged. Got our beverages, then didn't see our server for another 45 minutes when we got our refill. When 2 parties that arrived way after us got their lunch. We asked when our lunch would arrive and we got a great answer of "soon" and our server walked away. No apologies. No concern. No nothing. Decided it was best to eat elsewhere at that point. If you like sitting around and chatting with friends and family this is your place. If you need nutrition I suggest somewhere else in Niles. read more

As my bio says, I am on the hunt for the best bloody mary and although I have yet to try any outside of the United States, I can safely say that the one I had here is in top three territory. The restaurant itself is super cute with a pretty bar area as soon as you walk in and then a whole other seating area aside from that with plenty of space between tables. It's winter time right now, so I'm not sure if they have outdoor seating, but it looks like they at least have garage doors that open up to the outside. Our waitress was an absolute gem, very high energy, very helpful, very attentive, and very concerned with how well our experience went. We started out with the salmon sliders, which was so delicious; easily my favorite thing there besides the bloody mary. We also got cheese curds and brussel sprouts. My boyfriend and I split the GOAT and The Big Bad Wolf burger and they were both amazing of course. Overall, I'm super happy with this spot and I can't believe I've never tried it before. We have been talking about making it back to Iron Shoe since our initial visit and we finally got around to it on Mother's Day. We arrived a little after 12 and the place was packed, which was to be expected. The hostess said they filled up as soon as they opened the doors at 11:30. She said it would be about a 20 minute wait for the two of us. It was a rainy day and with not much room inside, we headed back to the car to wait. In less than 20 minutes, she called to confirm it was just the two of us and said she had a high top ready for us. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary and I couldn't resist trying the Hollywood Martini (pomegranate and vodka) - both drinks were perfect! We shared the tuffalo cauliflower for an app which was perfectly fried. My husband ordered the Hoosier Classic (pork tenderloin sammy) that is this month's "burger" special with the pamesan truffle fries. I opted for the Nashville Chicken and Waffles. My husband loved everything about his meal - the fries were killer! Mine was a little disappointing - no heat to the chicken, waffle was a little soggy and everything was barely lukewarm. They were slammed so I didn't want to complain and based on our original experience, this was probably just a fluke and certainly won't keep up from coming back. Our first experience was fantastic and several was friendly and efficient both times. It's excited to hear they are expanding and adding a rooftop deck - we will be back! read more

I've been coming here for years for cocktails, sipping whiskey, and great food. I don't believe I've ever had a negative experience. If you haven't been, you need to correct that. Staff is always friendly and professional. Other visitors are always cheerful it seems. The environment is clean and inviting. It's just a great place to go for a bite and a few pours. Cocktails - I tried a few: - Cranberry Orange Whiskey Sour - Blood Orange Old Fashioned - Apple Cinnamon Old Fashioned All these were great - they make great cocktails with their whiskey, rye, and bourbon. Favorite, hands down, as the Apple Cinnamon Old Fashioned. It's fall, and this drink says all there is to say about the perfect drink for an autumn evening. Cheddar and Cauliflower Soup Steaming hot Light flavor Smooth texture, not gooey. Cauliflower is so light, it's hard to to bring the flavor out, but this soup does a great job of highlighting that in a simple, almost elegant manner. This probably won't be a favorite I'll make at home, but it was perfect for a chilly evening warmer. White Cheddar Cheese Curds w/ Sriracha dipping sauce What is there to say? They're always amazing. If you haven't tried them, you should. Two orders of those is easily considered dinner. Yep, I've done that. Crispy Brussels Sprouts w/ Sriracha dipping sauce Not crispy, but not mushy either. Texture is everything for Brussels Sprouts. I was not impressed. Oddly, I became impressed, as hunger led me to continue working through the basket. The ones on top were sketchy. The further I got into the serving, the better they got. Nice and firm, but not crunchy. Perfect crisp on the outside. Great bites in the end. Wonder if you can just order the bottom half of the fryer basket? 1. Server stayed away from my table (a replacement never made) after serving dinner. I had to go get my own "Take Home Basket" and unlike others, go upfront to pay bill. They wouldn't bring it to my table. 2. Two customer tables near me were moved on the patio, making me the lone customer in that area. That cleared the area of other servers. Word I heard, I was drunk & probably dangerous. I'm not, I'm a healthy 81 year old Vietnam Vesterin with his share of bumps & bruises that are physically disabling. 3. My kids and I USED to regularly visit a few times a month since they first opened.Every week the kids would ask to go. However In the last year that has decreased significantly as there has been so many changes to the way the quality of the food has been. Each time we wait a bit and give it another chance. And each time we are let down. The sauce for the truffalo wings isnt the same. The truffle fries either have no taste at all or are drowned in parmesan. The cheese curds are not cooked throughly and the Sriracha sauce tasted like mayo and chunks of garlic. I love Iron Shoe Distillery. I'm not one to order a burger, but the Sweet and Salty burger is something I can't pass up. The Truffalo Wings and Bruschetta Stuffed Avocados are also delicious as are the cheese curds. When I'm trying to be "good" I get the Chicken Avocado Caprese salad. As for the spirits, I usually order the Bloody Mary or a Moscow Mule (the strawberry basil one is tasty). I've been here several times and have never been disappointed. Yummy. read more

My husband and I wanted to grab a quick bite before seeing a movie on Mother's Day. We arrived before they opened and were walking around the property admiring the industrial look. They have large garage doors to let in the fresh air, an upstairs, outdoor patio with live music on Wednesday nights in the summer, and plenty of indoor seating either at the bar or in their restaurant areas. A gentleman came walking by and began a conversation with us. We think he was their head chef. He asked our plans. When we told him our time was limited, he assured us we could order from the appetizer menu and get our food quickly. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a very friendly bartender. He detailed there drink availability which includes only the spirits they make on site. I don't understand the other reviews complaining they don't have a beer menu. The word distillery is in their name, not brewery. We ordered their bourbon cream to accompany the fried brussel sprouts and cheese curd appetizers. We ordered the small size of each and were pleasantly surprised by the generous serving size. The bourbon cream was delicious as well. Our experience from beginning to end was top-notch, Niles is lucky to have this gem. We will return again each time we visit. If you are interested in trying their infused liquors, they do offer a tasting flight; though I recommend you share with someone as this is a lot of alcohol. We got burgers which were very good, but I was a little disappointed in the Mac and cheese. It was good, but definitely not the best I've had. The wait staff was very friendly but we seemed to wait a while for someone to take the order and get the bill. I usually don't write bad reviews, especially since I work in the restaurant industry and get what it's like to be understaffed. But my recent visit was really disappointing. When we arrived, the hostess sat us at a tiny table that was way too small for our meals and drinks. We asked to move, and since the restaurant was pretty empty with only about 8 other tables occupied, it shouldn't have been an issue. After we were seated at a larger table, we waited over 15 minutes without any acknowledgment from our waitress or any other staff. No one stopped by to say hi, offer water, or explain if they were short-staffed. To top it off, we saw the hostess taking care of a table that came in after us. It was really frustrating not to get even basic service or communication. It's a shame because my dad was really looking forward to coming here for an early Father's Day celebration. read more

We are on vacation and following the leads of others so we were brought to this place which makes it's own Vodka and unique cocktails. As we are trying to go with local flavor when we can we got some of the cocktails. I got a beekeeper, a lime. Mint vodka etc concoction that wasn't bad. Tried some of Shnhas and not bad. Another member got the vodka flight with 6 shots of your choice of their flavored vodkas made in house. I don't remember all six but the Jalapeno mix one went down the smoothest as a surprise. They had a chocolate orange shot which tasted like the candy of the same name. Also a cranberry that was not popular. The food was good. I had a bacon cheeseburger which was good. Fries were ok, others had the impossible burger which is a veggie burger and a waffle with mac and cheese inside. My aunt and uncle who were with us ordered lobster dish. The waitress waits to bring the rest of our food to tell them there is no lobster. She admitted they told her about 10 minutes after she put in the order, she NEVER bothered to come tell us. Since everyone had food they didn't order anything else so no one had to wait. Waitress also forgot another person order of brussel sprouts and brought 2 over on the house. A nice thing to do but too late. I have waited tables. I know how busy and hectic it can get. There is no excuse for not coming over as fast or as soon as you hear you are out of something to give the patron, the guest, a chance to order something else. I couldn't believe it. We got separate checks. No one came to pick them up so two of our party went to pay upfront but our waitress came back right as I got up and said she had it. The others paid, got receipts and were ready to go. I'm still waiting when she finally returns she said printer broke, can't print out the copy I sign. We were passing through the small town of Niles and hopped on Yelp to find a local gem to sample before heading back to Indianapolis. The pictures of the store front made me a little nervous but very intrigued to see how one converts a garage into a distillery/restaurant. They nailed it! I was a little sad that they were missing some ingredients for the highly acclaimed Urban Legend Bloody Mary, but I opted for a basic bloody mary and was highly satisfied with my beverage choice. If we didn't have to drive, we would have tried the flight of spirits because the flavors on their chalk board sounded completely delish... oreo vodka?! Yes please!! The cheese curds were golden little nuggets of tasty cheese with a ranchy dipping sauce on the side. Really a 3.5* but siding on 4. Cool mod metal industrial style. Food was good but we felt the lobster roll was a bit dry and couldve had more season or sauce. The fries were great though heavy breaded fried with parmesian and truffle. The pork slider was solid and yummy and slimey in all the right ways. They have very creative infused shots! Dragonfruit, Strawbwrry Rhubarb, Peanut Butter Rum, Amber rum, Maple Cream Bourbon Cream, Chips Ahoy Bourbon Cream. To be honest all the creams tasted similar but great!
