I love The View. There's just something right about this place that I can't really explain. It has character and grit. Is it the nicest place in the world? Definitely not. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, but that helps build character. The beer here is cheap and the burgers are fantastic. I've been going for years and never had a bad experience. The View Tavern appears to be a Time Capsule of a late 1970's working mans dive bar. However the IPA's and craft Beers on tap betray it's gentrification. All is not lost, there is still Budweiser on tap. The service and food was outstanding. Portions were very generous. We had the Award winning Betty Burger without a bun. And a double bacon Cheeseburger. Burgers are very large and come out cut in half, secured with heavy toothpicks. Burgers come with chips but we upgraded to fried mushrooms and onion rings. They were cooked perfectly and came out hot and crispy. read more

This looks a little sketchy from outside (I made my husband go in first to check it out), but it it was fine inside. It's a local bar and restaurant, looks to have been here for a long time. The bartender was friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming. It's not fancy, so we were very comfortable. We had the two grilled cheeses, fries, chips and chili. Everything was made from scratch and was delicious. The Jalepeno Popper Grilled Cheese was the winner. They are made by the owner, not the frozen crap. This is a tip-top dive bar close to downtown South Bend that is well worth visiting. Small place with probably less than a dozen tables and a long bar. Everything is vintage and, while the name suggests a view - there isn't any. In fact the front is so small you'll have to look hard to find this place. Street parking is available and cheap. They have very nice hamburgers and really got the French-fried thing down pat. Their fries and onion rings were great. And that's about it. While the menu has other stuff to offer, this is a hamburger and fries and beer kind of place. So if you keep in mind where you are and what your doing, you'll like this place. Service was the best, perky and friendly and way over the top in helping us decide what to try. Great beer selection (we had Shock Tops), as one might imagine and expect in a dive bar in a great sports city. We'd come back just for the friendly efficient service. Try it. read more

Kassie was amazing AS always. she is so welcoming every time to everyone. she acknowledges you even when your leaving. her service is absolutely phenomenal. the food was great! Visited last night (a Saturday) at 11pm. Was a very normal amount of busy. The bartender was extremely rude and acted so bothered that we asked her for a drink. Acted like having to do her job that consisted of grabbing me a can of beer ruined her night. Giving it 2 stars because my boyfriend really enjoyed his burger. read more

First and foremost, The View (aka Parkview Tavern) is a bar and a smokey one at that! Back in the day they had $2 Tuesday with $2 burgers and pitchers of beer. Nowadays, it's still a bargain at $3.50 a burger (plus $1 for fries) and $3 pitchers of beer. My husband and recently stopped in on a Tuesday to grab a burger and a couple beers (which turned into several hours and several pitchers!). Service is always great, even when crowded. It's a good burger for $3.50 and I'm sure some of their other burgers are even better. Onion rings and fries are always crisp and hot...and you can't beat their daily drink specials. However, the smoking continues to be the biggest turnoff for us. It's not very appealing to eat with constant smoke and I hate coming home and smelling of cigarette smoke. We would definitely frequent more if they went smoke-free! read more

Divey dive bar. Loud. No frills. Been here a few times. Just a good damn bar, with good food. I had the homicide burger. Named for the county homicide unit, which is next door. Good amount of spice to it. My wife had a shrimp po' boy. Now, I am a purist/snob. I won't get a Philly cheesesteak anywhere but Geno's Steaks in Philly. I won't order a po' boy outside of NOLA. That said, this was pretty damn good. read more

Ok, forget the rest of the 1 star reviews! The Gulyas!!! Yes, I said it, is like I remember as a kid growing up in Cleveland , Ohio with some of the best Hungarian cooks. Ooooh, and I went total fat kid by getting a burger as well. The food was AWESOME!! It's a local dive bar, and I'll say, you can see by my reviews I do mostly upper scale dining, yet, this place has the food down pat!! i've been there only a handful of times, so maybe I just went during an unlucky scheduling., Don't know. Not sure who the guy in the back cooking is, but this guy is extremely rude. Not sure if he's bright enough to know everyone can hear what he saying, but not exactly what I wanted to listen to when I was there. I'd skip this place and find someplace else to go and spend your money. Not exactly what I would call a friendly environment. read more

This place is legit!!! Mixed feelings at first because we saw they had won best burger in northern Indiana, but had lower reviews on yelp because of the smoking. We decided to at least drive by and the outside seating had us convinced to stay. I can't handle smoke and it is smokey. I ordered the award winning "Becky" burger with fries and my husband had the "homicide" burger with fries. They cut the burgers in half so we were able to share a half each. We each liked our own orders the best. The Becky is worthy of an award. The blend of ingredients makes it one of those rare burgers that needs no ketchup. The fries were great too. All natural and perfectly cooked. None of that skinny crap, or frozen potato paste you'd expect from a semi-hole in the wall place. Nope! This place is legit. Service was great too! We will be back but only during the summer so we can sit outside or until Indiana enacts smoking bans. Then I'll make this a 5 star review. read more

If you appreciate a dive bar like I do, then this is your place. The View has that beautiful balance of old school blue collar ambiance meets vintage, dingy, but not totally run down feel. You can feel this before even opening the front door. The beers were cold and priced well. The wings were actually pretty good. Do you miss the days when you could walk into a dive bar on the outskirts of town and every person in the bar is smoking? The gritty feel of a room full of blue collar men just enjoying a beer after a long day of manual labor, the kind of place that any man over the age of 40 from the Midwest longs to spend their evenings. This is how the View feels. It feels like home. (assuming your home has several rustic looking old men hanging around) They have some of the best deals I've ever seen at a bar. On Tuesdays, you can get a cheeseburger for $4 and the burgers are actually quite good. You can also get a pitcher of Shock Top (and bud or other cheap beers) for $4!! Honestly, I think that's all I need to say to sell you on this place. The View has become such an integral part of my buddies and my weekly routine that we have renamed Tuesday to Viewsday. read more

This hole in the wall bar has some of the best and cheapest burgers around! The drinks def don't lack alcohol and are very reasonably priced too. Two of us can get out of here drunk and full on food for under $50....and I'm a big ol corn fed 6'5" country boy read more

I'm not from South Bend, so don't let the name fool you. I saw that it got good ratings and it was near the river, so I assumed there would be a river view. NOT! It's a total dive bar (not that it's bad, but it's not what I envisioned). They love their Chicago sports teams as noted by the flags pinned on the ceiling. Not much of a menu, burgers, fries, wings, sandwiches. TVs on the wall, vintage tables, nice long bar. They're known for their burgers. I wasn't impressed and I had the build your own. The meat wasn't juicy at all but the condiments and sides were good. Served w chips but you can order fries on the side (the Texas fries did sound good!). Not in a rush to return but if they have the happy hour pricing I might be interested. read more

Great tavern! Went for lunch and it was delicious. Hot homemade soups (stuffed green pepper and goulash with potatoes) were very tasty and filling. Husband had a burger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese- served with kettle chips and that was great too. We sat at the bar and the bartender, April, was attentive but not overly so. I came her with some friends last Wednesday because I heard they had 35 cent wings on Wednesday. That's enough for me. We called ahead and ordered. The bar tender was rude to my friend on the phone, so they lose points for that. The wings were decent. I especially enjoyed the honey mustard ones. The fries, on the other hand, were flavorless. I had to season them myself when I got home. Next time I'll just get the wings or Becky burger. read more

I went to Notre Dame and as a student this was not a place you heard talked about a lot. It wasn't until my 5th year of school I even heard about it, but I was sad that I had been missing out all these years! My friends and I started going there pretty regularly on Tuesdays for the $3 burgers and loved it. The View is definitely a dive bar. Sometimes you'll get some strange looks walking in there if you aren't a regular but it's all worth it for the burgers. The burgers are cheap and delicious. I mean absolutely DELICIOUS! I was so surprised. I wouldn't reccomend the wings. The goulash is decent. But definitely reccomend the burgers. read more

Their regular menu looks sooooo good and their restaurant week menu also looked good! Just a note - only 2 of the items on their restaurant week menu appear on the regular menu, so get these unique dishes while you can these next two weeks! Like I said, I have been wanting to check out this SB institution for ages! Inside is adorable and absolutely maximalist. My minimalist mom would have a heart attack coming in here. So despite it being -5 degrees out, Fiddler's Hearth was packed and we were glad we made reservations. It was the first day they had the special restaurant week so it did take 2 hours for us to get through and finish everything because the kitchen had to make all these new items but I won't fault the restaurant for that in my review today. I am sure it is normally a well-oiled machine. My bf and I both got different things off of the menu but ended up splitting so we could try lots of different Irish foods. We started off sipping in some unique alcoholic drinks. I got the shamrock coffee which had Baileys and mocha. He got the restaurant week special of a pear and allspice old fashioned. His drink was very strong. Mine was delightful and I was a happy camper sipping mine. Round one goes to me for choosing the best drink. The drinks were about $9 for the old fashioned and $7 for the spiked coffee. Next round was our first course, the appetizer. He got the steak pie (a mini version of the Guiness Steak Pie on the normal menu) for the appetizer which was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC and seasoned to perfection with lots of onions. I got the potato and leek colcannon cakes for the appetizer which were very leek heavy on the taste. I liked it but agreed his appetizer was the winner. Next up to the plate were our entrees. He paid $3 additional dollars for their take on a salmon wellington. It came with a side of brussel sprouts and potatoes. I chose to be a fatty and get the patty melt with medium rare prime rib, stone ground mustard, grilled onions, and a side of pretty yummy chips (ie French fries). It was a very wet sandwich haha. I personally think mine was the better one, while my bf thought his was the best. Sometimes, you just need a really wet and juicy sandwich!! Haha! Last but not least was our desserts. He was the winner here but just barely. His bread pudding was a calorie heavy delight, smothered in a white chocolate sauce. Mine was a cute little classic Irish dessert, a cranachan, which was sort of like a trifle. On top was a moist and chewy gingerbread cookie. In total, our bill was a little over $100 for tax and tip. A little expensive, sure, but we had a great time and came home very full! I will be back!

Parking was a bit confusing so here's my tip. Park in the back. We parked in the parking garage across the street, which was fine. However, the entrance is in the back of the building. Jack our server was awesome made great recs for dinner, desert and wine! I tried a Spanish wine, Chocolate with mango sorbet as dessert (very interesting and tasty) and their chicken dish. Just authentic delicious food!!
