Its unusual for me to write a review for places I haven't physically been to but someone from my church group brought a carrot cake from here for a gathering and man! It was the best carrot cake I've had. The cake itself was moist and fluffy with the perfect amount of carrot. And the icing was really creamy and sweet just like I like it. Called upper crust to get a pumpkin pie made... Because on their website they say that they don't do them until mid October, but I was likely able to get one the first week because they already had been making them! So that was a huge plus! When I called her, the lady on the phone was very polite and went ahead and got my order set up to pick up that day. I went over there and parked in the little parking area, went inside and waited a little bit until I got service... But they had other people in their bakery line so that's understandable! I told them my name and that I had a pick up order and they quickly run me up and brought it out. I love this place. It's prices are fair and the food is delicious. I recommend their tuna sandwich. They also have traditional sodas, no "Maine Root" which is a sad Austin alternative for Coca Cola. My only ask is to PLEASE get a toaster. Everytime I go here I ask for my bread to be toasted and the front clerk basically agrees with me, without outright saying that a bakery not having a toaster is absurd. I am really upset because I ordered a chocolate cake for my husband's birthday and gave the guy my credit card information over the phone. I never use this card either. I must say that the apple was tart, delicious in a flaky crust - it was divine. I was thrilled to grab a nice latte and pastry here until I found out that they didn't have WiFi!! I can understand the concept of not wanting the customers to linger like a coffee shop but they sell coffee there! On another note I tried their blueberry danish and their Texas croissant. The blueberry danish was on the lighter side and had a nice fresh tart flavor from the blueberries. Wow disappointing. Based on the positive reviews I thought I would get a birthday cake for my daughter's second birthday from this local bakery. Patricia was beyond rude and disrespectful to me over the phone to the point where I requested to speak to a manager and when she continued to speak over me until I eventually just hung up. This was the worst customer service I have ever received from a restaurant and/or bakery. I have come to depend upon them for a few of my daily essentials such as a double shot of espresso, cheese Danishes, a slice or two of the bacon tomatoes quiche and of course birthday and or celebration cakes. I am always impressed with any and everything I have tried at this bakery. Honestly the only thing more they could do to appease me more is to have a drive thru. However, this was actually my first time doing business with them, and I'm impressed. Ordering a cake was a painless process! I called in, spoke with a really nice gentleman. Asked a few questions, got all of the answers I needed, and placed my order. I picked up the cake today, and it's perfect. It was ready at the time I needed it to be, and looked gorgeous to boot. I searched yelp to find a gluten free bakery. This place popped up as being right around the corner. I called to see what they had as it's almost Christmas and I wondered what all I might be able to get. I was told by a female that they had small and large loaves of bread and also blueberry (something I couldn't understand). I said thank you, finished my lunch and headed over. I walked in and walked right up the counter. A thirtyish guy asked what he could get me and I told him I'd like a large loaf of GF bread and clarification on what the blueberry item was. He said they didn't offer ANYTHING gluten free. ????? I explained that I had just called and he JUST WALKED AWAY. At this point I don't know what's going on but in a minute or so he comes back with a Hispanic gentleman who says he's the manager and that they in fact do not have any GF items. I told him that that was fine and that I did not expect them to produce something they clearly didn't have but that he really should find out which staff member was giving misinformation and maybe try to get themselves untagged as GF on Yelp! This is one of my favorite spots in Austin. I'll admit - my high rating is probably a bit nostalgia influenced because I did grow up coming here all the time. The smell of the inside of the bakery alone just brings me straight back to my childhood. That being said, having come here for the first time as an adult, it still holds up as a great local spot. Got a cinnamon roll and chocolate croissant. Croissant was good, cinnamon roll, as usual, was excellent. Oat milk cappuccino had an impressive amount of foam for dairy-free milk, and everything is very reasonably priced compared to so many other shops in Austin. I am giving them 5 stars for two reasons, one because of the quality of their product, the other because of their customer service. 1. I ordered 4 different cookies, a slice of apple cake, a cinnamon roll, and a schnekel? Everything I ordered was tasty. I was a little concerned about the cinnamon roll as it looked a little dry in the case, but don't judge a book by its cover. Nuke it for about 20 seconds, and you'll have a cinnamon roll full of buttery goodness. Delish. 2. The customer service I received was good, but what I witnessed with another customer was superb. A lady came in to pick up her cake, they gave it to her and she then asked, can you write something on it? They oblige and take it to the back. They bring the cake back out, and she didn't like the color or the writing. GOOD GRIEF! To my surprise, they took it back AGAIN, and I'm assuming they had to refrost the top of the cake to appease this customer! OMG... kudos to the team. read more

So when I saw the raving reviews about a place that specializes in them I was there! They have trays and trays of the cinnamon rolls because they are a constantly being ordered. So when I got mine, it smelled amazing. My first bite was good, but maybe because I came towards the end of the day they weren't as fresh anymore. It was a bit tough on the outside. It was semi-sweet, which my gf enjoyed but I like the over the top sweetness when it comes to desserts. It also just has sugar, no icing on top, which can be a good or bad thing. In this case I think it would have been better with some icing. It was good, but not the holy grail yet. read more

Sometimes, you might be just stared at until you say something. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. You are representing a business, your employer, who PAYS you to smile and genuinely act like you are grateful for your customers. It really isn't a lot to ask and if the working conditions are such that you feel uninspired or disgruntled about having to go to work, then please do yourself a favor and put in your notice and find something to do that brings you joy. I am a glutton. I caught the sunrise at Mt. Bonnell this morning at the ass crack of pre-dawn and then made my way here because I had bookmarked it. I saw the full display case and felt my drool begin to pool. I knew I wanted an almond paste croissant because I haven't had one in ages but goddamn the full stacks of cookies taunting me. I saw the coconut cream pie and my eyes literally doubled in size. Anyone that knows me knows my love of pie, coconut cream especially. I asked if they had any single slices and the boy behind the counter cut me one. The first bite of pie was absolute heaven. This was the first coconut cream pie I've had in Austin that I've fallen in love with. The chocolate coat on the crust was a perfect accompaniment to the sweet cream filling and the coconut flakes were perfectly toasted. Every single bite was amazing. I was scraping the plate clean. The croissant was good too! Not what I'm used to for almond croissants but the almond paste wasn't overpowering and had actual chopped almonds in it. I liked the croissants chewy texture, I prefer chew over crisp. All in all, I am in love with Upper Crust Bakery. Love the atmosphere, love the service, love the ample seating and love the sweets. Coco cream pie was good, but when I asked if the iced coffee was cold brewed the guy said uh, what? I said, is the iced coffee cold brewed? "Uh, yeah." I'll have iced coffee with my pie. I was filling my coffee when I asked another employee. This person stated the iced coffee was not cold brewed. I was immediately enraged.
