Our bill - A restaurant receipt from Uotora in Brooklyn, NY, listing various sushi dishes and their prices, with a total of $308.12.

This is my $$$ to-go omakase restaurant with actual Japanese staff and service in Brooklyn. This does mean the sushi pieces will smaller than most sushi places in nyc but, it actually more authentic (US vs Japanese food portions). *Warning, there are limited cooked food options* Food: 5/5 I do the omakase every time I go, even when I am not at the bar. I really enjoy the diversity of fish and the interesting add-ons (i.e., sardine) available. This is pretty penny especially if you start ordering drinks (~$130 - $150 before tip). Service/ Ambiance: 5/5 The service is a top notch. The way they pour your drinks at the bar and being mindful of dietary restrictions. It really makes it a great date night or anniversary spot in Brooklyn. All in all, I love coming here but this is a once or twice a year treat since it can get expensive quickly. You have to call to get a bar seat but, it is an amazing experience. Can't wait to go back!

food was delicious! ambiance is nice and calm which i enjoyed as i read my book! service was great everyone was extremely nice. i ordered shrimp tempura, eel rolls and seaweed salad and miso soup. they also give you green tea when you leave. i also had the yuzu wine which was very sweet. the sushi rolls were delicious the seaweed salad wasn't my favorite as it was different from the ones i had in the past but happy to try something new. i will be back again! even though this has "$$$$" alluding to it being expensive. everything off the menu is regular new york pricing i think the expensive part is omakase which is expected

Came here last week with my husband and brother in law for omakase at the counter. The omakase was great value for the price ($105) and the amount of food you receive, as well as the items you receive. We've been frequenting omakase spots often and there were multiple things I was trying for the first time while here. One of our favorite bites was a small Japanese fish that I didn't catch the name of but it was awesome. Definitely recommend coming here and trying it out! Courses (may have missed a few of the sashimi!) 1. sashimi platter- kampachi was standout 2. oyster and compressed sushi roe 3. steamed monkfish liver 4. baby sea bream 5. striped jack 6. bluefin tuna 7. marinated baby squid 8. japanese mackerel 9. small fish (missed the name but amazing!) 10. king salmon 11. golden eye snapper 12. chutoro 13. uni 14. hand roll with tuna 15. miso soup with clams We also ordered the sweet potato cheesecake and the strawberry dessert which were both good.

what a joke.. we ordered 2sets of omakase ($55*2) and fatty tuna scallion roll ($10). spent total of $160 from doordash delivery (including service fee and tip). They get 2stars because of good quality. Their rolls are just riduclous. just look at the pictures. it's not good for the restaurant to cheap out on rolls like that. meh. I do not recommend this place.

Finally decided to try this real Japanese restaurant. Right the staff is 100% Japanese so it might actually be worth it. We took Omakase and Omakase sashimi and spent $250 total. Not worth at all because: The portion were too small. The sashimi dish was very small and average taste. The Sushi were the smallest sushi we had in our life and we have been eating sushi in a lot of countries from affordable to expensive restaurants. I added a picture so you can get a sense of how small they were. We are not recommending this place.

4.5 rounded up, for the omakase menu. A good quality omakase, but without paying those Manhattan prices. We got to Uotora for our date night, and booked a reservation over the phone easily. The only issue with the reservation was when we got to the restaurant: it took 20-30 minutes to sit us down, since the previous party didn't finish yet (the omakase bar can only sit 4 people). The restaurant gave us a free dessert, without us asking for it, as compensation. Now for the omakase: delicious and unique. They recently raised its price to $95, but added a sashimi dish. So we got: * Assorted sashimi - including 2 pieces of tuna, a few pieces of orange clam, yellowtail, branzino & a delicious piece of salmon * An appetizer of oyster, and marinated fish. * 10 pieces of sushi, including Saba with gut sauce, and a delicious sockeye salmon * A hand roll * And miso soup with clams The sushi chef was pleasant and took great pride in his work.

Very underwhelming. While the priceless close to right the quality of the fish was not what you would expect. Unfortunately I had many chewy pieces with sinew parts that I couldn't even chew. Deep cartilage and sharp bones. I know inflation is driving everything up but I must maintain my integrity. Next time I will dine indoors. As for pickup/take home. That's kinda on me for th3 variance it injects into the experience The staff was friendly and timely. But the size and quality of the fish was far below the expected par for the course. I'm sorry to say thumbs down.

I happened to find this place by accident when looking for a new sushi option. I know it's located in Brooklyn and I have never been to this neighborhood before, but was willing to try - for good sushi! I was glad that I did. I loved the bright wood sushi bar/counter - very authentic setting. Most of fish is imported from Japan and I was served by Kobayashi-san, one of the two Japanese chefs/owners (both are ex-Gari). I enjoyed the quality and the pace that my omakase sushi pieces were served. I know there are places where they serve omakase with the time limit of 30 min...I cannot imagine trying myself though. Kobayashi-san explained each piece where the fish came from, etc. I added extra pieces after my omakase course was over in lieu of dessert and continued my happiness... :) And of course, the price was very reasonable and you'll pay way more for this quality in Manhattan!

Cusine: 8 Service: 8 Decor: 7 Value: 9 Overall: 8 Serious sushi in the middle of Crown Heights. A place once synonymous with violence and crime, now a neighborhood going through a major facelift. The fact that two former Sushi of Gari alums would leave the cushy confines of UES and Tribeca to settle here should tell you as much. Unlike their time at Sushi of Gari, the preparation of sushi here at Uotora is mostly Edomae style. Our chef for the night was Hiro Kobayashi, who delivered a fantastic omakase filled with delicious bites. Here is the omakase and extras I had on 3/5/19. Appetizer: Kumomoto Oyster, Bay Scallop, Monfish Liver Sushi: Usuba Hagi (File Fish) - Nagasaki Shima Aji (Striped Jack) - Kagoshima Akami (Lean Bluefin Tuna) - Spain Saba (Mackerel) - Nagasaki Hatori Ika (Firefly Squid) - Toyama Bay Kare (Flounder) - Aomori Sake (Wild King Salmon) - New Zealand Kinmedai (Golden Eye Snapper) - Chiba Otoro (Fatty Bluefin Tuna) - Spain Bafun Uni (Short Spine Sea Urchin) - Hokkaido Saiyori (Needle Fish) - Kyushu Hotate (Sea Scallop) - Hokkaido Madai (Japanese Red Snapper) - Kyushu Kamasu (Barracuda)- Shigzuoka Nodoguro (Black Throat Sea Perch) -Kanazawa Botan Ebi (Sweet Shrimp) - Canada Isaki (Grunt Fish) - Nagasaki Ikura (Salmon Eggs) - New Zealand Toro Temaki (Chopped Tuna Hand Roll) Tomago (Egg Omelette) The restaurant is cozy, the service is quite good, and the food was amazing. There are so many good sushi restaurants in NYC nowadays, it's hard to decide where to spend your hard earned dollars. However, if I can't find a last minute reservation in Manhattan at one of my favorite sushi spots, I would not hesitate to visit this location for my sushi fix.

$38 but yummy! - A black plastic sushi bento box contains various sushi rolls, sashimi, and condiments, including soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.

$$$$ with 4.5 reviews?! Okay, I will give it a shot. I was craving sushi and decided to check Uotora when I saw good reviews by other yelpers. I ordered the 8 sushi piece that comes with the roll ($38) thru delivery. First of all, the sushi was very fresh. The rice/fish proportion was just the right amount (although some may say they want more rice, that would diminish the tastiness of the sushi..). Yes, you can probably get the same quantity of sushi for cheaper price if you order from other place, but I think it was overall good fresh sushi. I will try to check this place in person next time!

Really solid traditional edomae sushi omakase. Left feeling completely satisfied and wanting more. Chefs come from Sushi of Gari in the city. Bar seating-omakase only. $70 for appetizer, 10 pieces, and handroll. The appetizer course for us consisted of delicious monkfish liver, kumamoto oyster, and some sliced taro which I could've done without. My 10 pieces, in order, were red snapper, striped jack, blue fin tuna from Spain, Japanese mackerel, Japanese scallop with yuzu, sea bass, king salmon from new Zealand (BEST piece), chu-toro from Spain, golden eye snapper, uni (wasn't really fresh that day), and tamago. The handroll was a toro handroll with Japanese radish (outstanding!) We also ordered 3 extra pieces each before our handroll-- another chu-toro from Spain, king salmon, and Japanese barracuda. Usually, king salmon isn't hard to come by, but on this night, king salmon from NEW ZEALAND? really delicious (best salmon I've ever had). If I wasn't full already, I would've ordered another handroll too. The reason why I can't give it higher than a solid 4 stars is because the uni was really not great that day (don't serve it if it's not great quality uni), and because many of the pieces were good, but not amazing. You really can't beat it for the price though. I'll be back.

First of all, I just want to say that WE WILL BE BACK! We had omakase dinner for two. REALLY good quality food for really good price. $65 for salad, 10 pieces of sushi (toro, king salmon, kampachi, red snapper, saba, uni, etc), a toro maki roll, and miso soup. We had kumamoto oysters and fish liver for appetizers. Salmon, uni, and toro were delicious so we got a few more of those! I'm so glad we dined here! See you again :)

My donburi set also came with dashi broth that the waitress later brought over to pour on top of the leftover rice in my bowl to be enjoyed at the end of the meal. The broth and rice combination was really comforting and satisfying. This dish was something I wanted to try in Japan but did not get a chance to experience when there, so I was excited to try it at Ozakaya. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ramen here as well. Although the pork could have been better/more tender, the broth was rich and seasoned so well and not too salty like other places. Last but not least, the service here was excellent and efficient. Food: 3/5 I'm a huge sushi fan, so I was excited when I saw a deluxe sashimi set on the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. The scallop was thinly sliced and lacked the rich texture I was hoping for. The salmon and other cuts were decent, but short and oddly shaped--chunky yet small, which made the whole presentation feel a bit off for something labeled deluxe. We also tried to branch out and ordered the short rib entree. For $21, it was shockingly small--definitely a single-person portion, not sharable. I added extra ikura to a salmon donburi bowl for $2, but it was barely a teaspoon's worth--just enough to say it was there. Oddly, the salmon slices in that bowl were thinner than the sashimi we had just eaten, and overall, it left me still hungry even after sharing a maki roll. Lastly, my husband ordered a green salad, which somehow took the entire meal service to arrive. When it finally came, it was just plain romaine, cucumbers, radish, and dressing. For a dinner that clocked in at over $150 (after tip), we definitely left underwhelmed. Service: 3/5 This part wasn't bad, just confusing. We were seated quickly, but the pacing of the meal was strange. Our seaweed salad and soups came out promptly, but the green salad came last, after the hot dishes and nearly after my husband finished eating. Also, a small thing--but when I'm paying $16 for four oysters, I want to know what kind they are. The menu just said "West Coast oysters," but our server couldn't tell us the variety or origin. Not a huge deal, but it added to a general lack of polish that didn't quite match the pricing. I don't think I'd return. For the price, there are better sushi options in Brooklyn with higher quality, better portions, and clearer service. Still, I appreciate new spots opening up in the neighborhood, and I'm always happy to try something new. Hopefully they refine the menu and service with time.

Lots of people came in and out for takeout orders so that seems to be more of the target audience. Service was quick and polite, we were there until 9:30 and they definitely seemed ready for us to be out of there before the 10PM closing time. As for the specialty rolls, there were some pretty creative options - don't shy away from seemingly odd combinations because the flavors really do work well together. I appreciated the rice:fish ratio on all the rolls, the rice was a thin layer letting the flavor of the other ingredients really come through. The plain spicy tuna roll on the other hand was filled with spicy tuna mixed with something crunchy - maybe puffed rice? It seemed to be an unnecessary filler, I would have preferred just fish. I enjoyed the Lovers Dream and Golden Sunset roll the most. While I was debating it while ordering, in hindsight I would definitely get two rolls per person, maybe more if you're really hungry.

All the flavors complemented each other beautifully. The strawberry sauce was unexpected but surprisingly worked! I love unique flavor combinations, and this one did not disappoint. The Torched King roll was also excellent. Salmon is my go-to for sushi, and the light torching gave it a subtle smoky flavor that I loved.
