There is a time and a place for everything - except for a $17 plate that you can eat in less than one bite. We literally laughed when we saw the dish, it was a joke. I think it was good but I'm not sure because there wasn't enough to get a full taste. I guess this is partially my fault for thinking that this was a sushi place but regardless, I can't think of any occasion when I would want to eat here. In order to get a reasonable amount of food one would have to order around $200 worth of mini-plates. I spent $65 and immediately got pizza afterwards. Our server was a nice guy though. I am embarrassed that I got tricked into going here. read more

We came here on Valentine's Day and only came to eat some appetizers, which were surprisingly overpriced. We wanted to try as much restaurants as possible while we were here in Boston. We had Seared Korean Ricecake, Smoked Beef Shortrib Bulgogi Tostados, and Spicy Tuna & Foie Gras Tataki. These were all okay. Their signature dish, Spicy Tuna & Foie Gras Tataki, was very good, but the tuna was quite small. The people next to us ordered the same thing and their tuna pieces were very much larger than ours. I felt like we had the end parts of the tuna. Overall, this place was decent. I wanted to try the late night ramen, but I didn't get the chance too. I love to try ramen everywhere that has it because I am a big fan, especially a person coming from new york. read more

No exaggeration....this place is as good as it gets. The culinary capabilities of this establishment can take you in a multitude of directions! I myself was all over the map from the french onion soup (best soup I've had in my life), wagyu beef strips, and the impeccable sushi. You would really have to try to not enjoy the cuisine here. Highly recommended. read more

This is a review of the "Midnight Ramen" weekend specials at Uni Sashimi Uni Sashimi is a tale of two Restaurants. Before Midnight, it's an upscale, expensive, and generally good restaurant to spend your monthly food budget in one night. After Midnight, it turns into a Ramen house that is "downscaled." Evidence? There's no real dress code, the menus are switched to cutouts of beer boxes (They use sharpies or some markers to write out the menu on the cardboard cutouts), you are given disposable chopsticks, and the menu prices are generally limited to $20 or less. First and foremost, the Traditional Ramen bowl is $10. Okay, not bad. The Pork Bun (note that I did not say buns) is $6. For one. One pork bun. And it's the same size as every other pork bun you've ever had. So let's talk about the pork bun. It's average-sized, and it's trends toward being sour. The tender of the meat is very good. Would I get it again? No, because it's a horrible value proposition that costs 2/3 of a full bowl of Ramen noodles. And frankly, because it's not close to being the best pork bun out there. The Ramen. Yes, this is where all sins will be forgiven. Nope. The portion: it's small - most people will not feel full by the end of it. The broth: it tastes good but is generally quite salty and will leave you thirsty afterwards. The noodles: meh. Nothing special. The meat: stingy, about 2-3 pieces on average. So, what's the verdict? Meh. You can find better ways to spend your money to get an okay meal. It's certainly not the best in Boston, and not even close to ranking up with the likes of Ippudo in NYC or other Ramen-focused restaurants. Uni Sashimi just isn't what it purports itself to be: a great meal at good value. Bottom line: If you have every been to NYC, DC, Chicago, LA, San Francisco, Miami, or Atlanta, Uni Sashimi is not a must-have. If you've only lived in Boston, Uni Sashimi is worth trying, as a benchmark. read more

There's only one word to describe the Omakasa.. DISAPPOINTING!!! The 2nd to last dish was amazing.. But it should have been the first dish and uphill from there. However it ended the meal and I only dreamed the rest of the meal had be that amazing. Go to O Ya! Same price point but actually an experience you want!! :( read more

Other than cool ambience, nothing special about it. The food is EXTREMELY overpriced ($27 for 2 pieces of nigiri), and they were out of 3 dishes we ordered. Service is not great either, and for a pricy restaurant like this, everything has to be on point. Save yourself some time and choose another upscale restaurant in Boston - a place where your money is ACTUALLY worth it. read more

Amazing, yes. Expensive, yes. This is not a place you come to, if you're starving because in order to eat to fill up you're going to pay for it. Meaning you'll probably spend $100 easy on yourself to fill up. In my opinion, its more of a place for foodies! =) The food is amazing, it's perfectly portioned to tantalize your palate. There's a Chef's special, $40 for 5 courses, dessert, and a sake bomb. I would say this is the best way to go, because you get to sample 5 dishes (in smaller proportion than if you were to order directly from the menu). The chef gives you 5 courses on whatever he chooses... but in my opinion, you should trust the chef? This is what was received at our table: the Uni Spoon (the best way to eat this dish is with a spoon! Amazing...) the Rock Shrimp Tempura (also good, kinda tastes like a Cheeto, anyone? heh). Hamachi Sashimi had this amazing apple wasabi. Dessert was a rhubarb sorbet with shortbread crumbs and a lemon custard? If I remember correctly, *sigh I definitely savored that. Cocktail - Enter the Dragon (tastes citrusy and tart... very strong stuff). Love food..? this place is a must! read more

I was in town visiting (from the SF bay area) and wanted to check out the sashimi scene in Boston. Here is the lowdown on their omakase (which is listed as $115 on the menu, but you can get one for $85 if you ask - which is what I did!). The Positives + I was very impressed by their creativity in mixing more uncommon garnishes/flavors with each of the dishes. Most of them brought out the flavor of the fish, though there were a few pairings that completely overwhelmed the sashimi (you may have to just eat the fish separately in those cases) + Service and presentation was excellent. + It's always a good day when a girl from Cali can have foie gras again! Highly recommend the tuna + foie gras option on the menu + Fish quality was excellent. Nothing more to say there. Things to Be Wary Of - You will probably not get full for the price you pay, unless you are fortunate enough to get enough items compliments from the chef. The cost of the meal is going to be relatively pricey no matter which way you slice it. Be prepared to whip out your wallet! - This place is really not that busy, so... if you're down with being pampered by the entire staff, then this will be great! Else, be prepared to be one of the few (if not only) tables in the small restaurant. Goldfish bowl time! Overall, I would definitely come back for another omakase meal if I were looking for one in Boston. For those who live there and like sashimi, this will probably be a must try. For those who live on the West (BEST) coast, the foie gras dishes are definitely something to stop by for!! read more

I went here on a Saturday night and I'm glad they did not overbook the restaurant as they left a good amount of tables empty. The drinks were great but the sushi and salmon sashimi we ordered was very mediocre and not as fresh as i had hoped. read more

UNI - Sushi Bars Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Strike 1 - Host was on the phone for 3 minutes when we arrived. Didn't acknowledge our presence, not even with his eyes, until his conversation was over. I'm not sure he was talking to a customer but can't say he wasn't. Strike 2 - We made reservations for a table for 3, days in advance, host showed us the bar seats. It was my birthday and I wanted to enjoy the company of my daughter and husband. So I said no, and tried to reason politely with him. He told us that he was expecting a big group- obviously he didn't read their own guidelines... "Good for groups -No". Strike 3 - No apologies, no attempt to keep us there, no happy birthday. So rude that we were shocked. We were out of the door. The food might be good but we'll never know. I love Toro and Coppa and cannot believe that Ken O. allows this kind of service at one of his restaurants. read more

Note: the five star rating is for the ramen, which is the only thing I tried here. Maybe it was because it was torrentially raining the night we went, perhaps it was because we thought rezzies opened at 10pm and therefore were starving by the time we actually got seated at 11pm, and all those factors combined to make me feel like I 'earned' my seat at the table at 11pm on a Saturday night, but this was one damn fine bowl of ramen. Noodles were delicious. As was the broth. However, the more I drank the saltier it seemed to taste, and roasted pork shoulder does not a piece of chashu make, so sadly it did not have the bits of fatty pork that I'm used to. The egg was cooked beautifully. Still, the ramen is 5-star worthy and would hold its own among the top ramen shops in NYC. The noodle texture wad divine - and the price at $10 hit the sweet spot. I guess a ramen micro-menu is the way to go! read more

On food quality alone, this restaurant deserves 5 stars (though if "value" was part of the equation, I'd probably have to drop it to 4 stars). We went in a pretty big group, so I got to try a lot of different things. I loved the Kobe Beef (it was cooked just perfectly), as well as the Blue Fin Tuna Tataki (with Foie Gras on top) and the Tuna Ceviche. We ordered the $100 chef's special "sampler" and it was a bit disappointing. It was a little bit overpriced for the amount of food we got, but most of it was still really good. I would recommend ordering whatever looks good on the menu to you, a la carte, as opposed to ordering a big platter. Come with a big wallet and you'll leave happy. read more

Sake Bomb Tuesdays are a great deal. $35 price fixed Sake + Sapporo 3 course meal (depends, but its usually an appetizer like a really different but really good shrimp tempura, tuna in three ways, and then something on a hot stone, like this meltingly tender and luscious seared salmon) And then you can order little items off the menu to go with your meal, or a bottle of really high end sake. read more

One star because everyone was extremely rude I've been dying to try there food but apparently they close whenever they want and don't follow the hours posted on there website. I arrived 45 mins before they closed and sat at the bar and the bartender was just rude and couldn't even make me a drink with a full bar.. must be nice to pick and choose your guest. read more

Uni Sashimi Bar, an upscale Japanese restaurant owned by Ken Oringer, transforms into a late night, cheap eats noodle bar at 11pm each Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The late night dining option attracts a young, hip crowd, making it tough to get a seat if you don't arrive early since seating is on a first come, first served basis. Ken Oringer's sashimi bar, Uni, is located downstairs from Clio in the Eliot Hotel on the corner of Massachusetts & Commonwealth Ave. The late night Ramen menu meticulously written in colored markers on cardboard combined with the flickering candlelight in this subterranean dining room, gives off a clandestine vibe and energy I don't often see here in Boston. I'm a noodle novice but even I was able to navigate the colorful menu with some helpful tips from the handsome waitstaff. Three bowls of ramen for $10 were featured (traditional, short rib & kimichi and gou kai - vegetarian). I opted for the short rib & kimichi that arrived quickly in a beautiful steaming bowl with a poached egg that I poked to let the yoke mingle with the flavorful broth and tender chunks of short rib. My friend Zoe and I also tried the Pork Bun and Shishito Peppers. The pork slider as I referred to it was out of this world delicious. The sriracha aioli, pickles and soft bun all work magic making the pork belly so good I could easily order a half dozen. If you go - you *must* try an order. Also tasty were the plate of fried sweet peppers, but nowhere near as addicting as the Pork Bun. In the name of "research" we opted to try Uni's ice cream sandwich of the night, which proved equally messy to eat as the Pork Bun, but every bit as delicious. The raspberry and lemon flavors added a refreshing end to this amazing dinner. Reservations are not available so arrive early. This tiny Back Bay restaurant barely seats 40 and fills quickly so give your name to the host and grab a drink at Clio's bar to wait to be seated when Uni reopens at 11:00pm; its worth the wait and you'll enjoy some excellent people watching - I promise. read more

Came here for the late night ramen and the pork buns, left with a frown on my face. Here's why: Pork bun- cripsy, good flavor, has cilantro(which I hate), and Friggin EXPENSIVE. Like, I could buy 2 Ippudo pork buns for the price of one Uni's. I mean, it's good, but not THAT good. Duck bun- has fried tofu chip inside, has cilantro(again), taste kinda like Chinese char siu(which is funny since their pork didn't), pretty good but not as good as the pork. Also overpriced. Traditional Ramen- Meh. Not impressed at all. Soup was salty and not particularly tasty. The pork here taste like char siu. Umami Ramen - spicier version of the traditional, definitely can't taste the 14 mushroom BS. The eel felt out of place. Not coming back. read more

I'll have to reference my review of Clio for the full setting of a hapless night that began tremendously full of hope and anticipation. The management and operational execution of the ramen night was so poorly mangled that the entire experience of the wonderful noodles was more or less washed out. I really do appreciate what they are trying to do and love that ramen is coming on strong in Boston. The late-night ramen experience here, though, was such a numbing expedition that I can't imagine coming back. It was a one-star night, but I'm giving an extra one because the ramen was done right and that deserves some credit. The chefs deserve better from their fellow staff. read more

Oh ramen, how I love thee. This review is solely based on their midnight ramen and their cocktail list. My boyfriend and I come here perhaps once a month for a nice night out and we always leave satisfied. We usually get there around 11 and depending on various factors ( the day of the week, other special events, weather, etc.) we usually get seated at the restaurant within an hour. Their cocktail list is impressive. They offer about 70+ drinks on their menu and the bartenders definitely know what they are doing. I am always impressed at how knowledgeable they are with their spirits and ways to infuse flavors into the drinks. The first time I went to the bar, I ordered a Todd Collins, which is a gin based drink that's mixed with lemon and simple syrup. To top it off, they put a really cool violet ice cube into the drink. I've also observed them smoking a cocktail glass, which is a unique thing that they don't do at a lot of bars. Uni started offering midnight ramen on their late night menu around February and at first, the bowls came out as if it was suppose to be this gourmet dish that's rich in flavor and small in quantity. No joke, I sucked it up and bought two bowls of ramen because their broth was so good. Throughout the past four months, they have increased their portions where I can go and order one bowl and be satisfied. I think the chef is definitely challenging himself to always improve the recipe because in the beginning, I thought the broth was good but the noodles were off. The last time I went in July, the noodles were better, the broth was rich, and the portions were just right. I've tried both the umami and the traditional and I would recommend both. The umami comes with eel and is a bit spicier. The traditional is well more like the traditional ramen you would find in Japan. The service here is good. The hostess is always friendly and welcoming. The servers are quick and efficient. In the winter, they offer to hang up your coat for you. Although uni is located in a fancy hotel, the clientele that goes for the midnight ramen are pretty chilled. The staff are not snooty at all and you feel like you fit in no matter what you're wearing. Overall, I really like this place and when I'm making more dough, maybe I'll also try more of their menu. They do a saki bomb special on Tuesday nights for $35. The special is a four-course meal that comes with sashimi and of course a saki bomb. That might be the next thing I try out. read more

Ultimately the ramen is not great at Uni. The concept is great - eat out at a really nice restaurant and get cheap ramen and pork buns. But the broth wasn't that good and we felt that overall the food was nothing special. Go for the atmosphere, the drinks, and the late night fun. Don't go for the ramen. read more

We had high hopes for our dinner at uni. We ordered the chef's choice menu and it was very disappointing. Most of the dishes were hard to recognize as sushi. Once course was peaches . Always wanted to come here for midnight ramen AND the restaurant itself. But it is an expensive place. So, MIDNIGHT RAMEN IT IS! Depends on the day but it starts at 11:00pm Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. If you're coming here, dress appropriately, you are going into a 5 star hotel/James Beard restaurant. I cam here at midnight-12:30-ish and barely made it in time. We were the last people they're taking in. It was worth the wait. Oh and the bar drinks are delicious! Try their Sangria. The broth is delicious. Drink it you won't regret it. The noodle is delicious the egg omg that egg. Advice. Come here earlier or they'll run out of broth and you'll end up with half a soup bowl. But I'm not complaining. The menu is written on cardboard and the price of the ramen is $10. The pork bun is sooo different and dcelicious! I dare say... the ramen/broth here is better than the authentic Japanese ramen restaurants around Boston. Yes. I said it! If you want two bowls of ramen, I advise you to come earlier and order it when you're ordering your bowl. read more

Best: the Los Muertos cocktail. Think Paloma, and add a touch of cinnamon and some Velvet Falernum to take it up a notch. Very nice. Ah, but this is a sushi, sashimi, and other seafood place, and you probably want to know about that.... This is my spot for sushi and late night ramen! I have taken guests and friends here and all of them have given the thumbs up! A bit in the pricier range, but that's how much quality and taste I get in return. They do their late night ramen service from 11PM on Thurs-Sat and you definitely must go. Ramen and sake is the best combination. P.S. the chef changes the ramen dishes slightly each week to try out some new tastes. read more

Uni is sea urchin in Japanese...which is my favorite type of sushi/sashimi, but somehow I missed it on the menu.....damn. I'd been interested in trying the Clio/Uni combo for some time, and this place lived up to my expectations. The food, the setting, the cocktails, the vibe...all great stuff. The difficult thing with a sushi/sashimi joint is how to rise above the rest (I mean Boston has a sushi place on every corner), and this place achieves by combining the quality food with some fine dining disciplines. I was also pleasantly surprised that pricing was not as high as I would have expected. This place should be more approachable to more people because the pricing is not as crazy as you may think. The setting: Tucked down in a basement cove section of Clio, the area has a unique subdued Japanese pop feel as compared to the Italian/French fine dining room feel of Clio. The music was upbeat and young, a good mix which made the whole vibe less stuffy. The food: Fresh fish? Check! Interesting flavors intermingling in your mouth? Bring it! Portion size? On the small side...but this is Japanese influenced folks. Highlights include the tuna ceviche with its rich coconut flavor. The Himachi sashimi with green apple sauce which literally melts in your mouth, and the salmon which was probably the best cooked piece I've ever eaten. The gourmand in me appreciated the delicate plating of all the dishes as well. The drinks: Lately I'm a beer guy, so I appreciated their selection of several domestic and foreign...but only two Japanese beers? The sake list is extensive and looks interesting (next time) and the fruity cocktails were done right. Something here for everyone I guess. The service: The wait staff was average, but here's what tipped the scales to the 5 star rating for me. The chef/owner Ken Oringer presented the entree to our table himself. I have alot of respect when a chef comes out and introduces himself to the table, and Ken even let us quiz him on his "Iron Chef America" appearance. Overall a pitch, a swing, and a homerun. This place delivers on the hip, upscale, sushi scene in Boston...and adds alittle bit of fun. Sake Bomb Tuesdays? I'll bring my college buddies. All You Can Eat Maki Mondays? I'll bring my sumo wrestler friends. I think this place needs a better PR plan...because the goods are all here. read more

I LOVE ma man but when it comes to making plans in advance, OMG, he is the WORST! But I am no baby pants. No ma'am. Girl can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan so... unless ma fingers are broken... there is no reason on earth for my night on the most romantic night of the year to turn out like a funny but sad but true Zoe Deschanel song. Any Boston Brahmin or Beantown Babe worth her revolutionary salt can dial 7 digits to satisfaction or book a rezzie online. To make things a little different I went for trendy sushi instead of old school French. Hey, I am making the plans so I want him to be surprised but in a good way like, "Oh Ma Gaud, this ROCKS!" (as in Stones tickets) not "Wow, gee, this is... Zzzzzz" (as in Boston Ballet tickets). Okay, the truth is the Top 50 French restaurants were booked by the time I called a month ahead but he doesn't know that so let's keep it between us amies, oui? Merci beaucoup :) Okay, Uni. If you heart Matsuhisa then you will break for Uni. If you heart Nobu then you will break for Uni. Get it? No McSushi. (Definition: McSushi is super-sized blah veggies and/or fish rolled in sugar-sticky white rice and then dunked to death in salty soy sauce or deep-fried to perfection in Crisco-esque tempura and then slathered in toothache sweet reduction sauce or some spicy mayonnaise concoction). Ergo, McSushi is to Japan what fettuccine alfredo is to Italy. Uber White T. Now I'm not judging, I'm just saying is all... so, moving right along, if you want to actually taste the quality of the fish with ingredients that bring out it's flavor rather than disguise what isn't there by coating it with sweet/salt then go to Uni. By the way, the place was recently redesigned for a more zen feel but it reminds me of a Swedish sauna room. You'll know what I mean when you get there. Love that it's an intimate seating for 20. The Scorecard: Parking: Valet - Thank God! Back Bay parking is ruthless. Greeting: Weird the maitre d' tried to put us up at the sushi bar when we had a table reservation on Valentine's Day a month in advance. Service: Surprisingly slow. Most places like to turn and burn on Valentine's Day. From 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, we actually had time to enjoy our meal so we didn't mind it one bit. Food: Hirami (A+), Tuna Sashimi (A), Lobster Tempura (A), Midai (B), Rock Shrimp Tempura (C) Drinks: Old School Mai Tai (B) only because they used too much ice and it was gone in two gulps, Syrah (B) though I am surprised he thought that when he had 3 glasses :/ Dessert: Cognac & Chestnut Souffle (A) Price: $205 (does not include 20% tip, coat check and valet service) Verdict: Gould ahead and Oringer my foodie bell anytime! (Get it? Chris Gould and Ken Oringer? Okay, it was funnier in my head). read more

Uni Sashimi Bar at Clio is by far one of the best restaurants I have been to in Boston. We were first introduced to the restaurant while eating at Clio, where the best part of our meal was the Sashimi. I have since been to Uni twice and have had the following experiences: 1. My boyfriend and I ordered the 8 course tasting menu for $85 each, which I felt was a steal for the amount of food that we got and the quality of the fish. While everything was delicious, some of the standouts were the tuna in some type of coconut broth, and the soft shell crab bun. The waiter was very engaged and the service was impeccable. I might point out that it was a Wednesday night, so the restaurant was relatively empty. 2. We went to Uni for the Sake Bomb deal on a Tuesday night. For $35 we got a 4 course set dinner which included 2 different types of Sashimi, spicy shrimp tempura, a very unique dessert and a sake bomb. You can't beat the deal for that price, and what's not to like about a free sake bomb at the end of a meal. However, we did order a soft shell crab bun each on top of our meals, which rounded them out nicely. I think I may have still been a little hungry otherwise. I'm looking forward to heading back to Uni to try out the late night ramen this summer. read more

A-MA-ZING! The perfect stop for dinner before an evening at the Boston Pops. We glided in and were guided to our cozy booth and chair seat immediately. A Must Try: the Uni Spoons. They are a scrumptious surprise of layered flavors; absolutely decadent in a mouthful, with lingering, impressive taste after that one delicious spoon is gone. The presentation of all the small plates is inventive and well-chosen to highlight the unique food, and sake selection is incredible. I'll definitely go again next time I am in Boston. read more

I went last night for restaurant week, and it was really great! We had a 6:30 reservation, and we were seated right away by a friendly hostess. It's a very small place, but it doesn't feel too crowded and it has a nice atmosphere. Our server brought over a little bowl of steamed salted edamame right away, which was a great start! We both ordered the poke for the first course, which is a bowl of cubed yellowfin tuna sashimi, sweet onions, sesame, seaweed, and bean sprouts. It was GREAT. We both agreed it was our favorite course! There was a generous amount of sashimi, and all the flavors worked so well together. It was addictive! For the main course, we both had the chirashi, which was also excellent! The bowl had 3 pieces of salmon sashimi topped with pickled Chinese bean (or something like that), 3 pieces of tuna topped with some kind of special roe, and 3 pieces of hamachi topped with a grapefruit sauce. All of this was atop a bed of purple-brown rice that had a really earthy flavor. All three sashimi selections were extremely delicious and fresh-tasting. The salmon was my favorite, it really tasted great with the pickled bean and it melts in your mouth. Before the meal, being the regular sushi-goers that we are, we were both questioning whether we would want soy sauce with our sashimi (and whether we would bear the embarrassment of asking for it at a fancy place like this). After we started into our chirashi, we both knew immediately that it was not needed! The flavor of the fish was so good, and the toppings complemented each one so nicely. For dessert, we had the mandarin caramel with coconut noodles and aloe ice cubes. It was served on a big plate with a tiny bowl in the middle, and it looked very fancy. I didn't really taste the caramel or the mandarin, and I found the aloe ice cubes a little bit odd, but overall the dessert tasted good! My favorite part was the small scoop of coconut ice cream on top. Minor gripe: I ordered a Harpoon IPA, and my boyfriend ordered one of their special cocktails (the "Polaris"), and the drinks still hadn't arrived when we were finished with our first course. I asked another server, and she brought them right away. The Polaris was VERY small, but also very delicious and potent! Also, they made up for the drink snafu by not charging for my second Harpoon. Score! Ordinarily, Uni is a bit out of our price range. The a la carte menu looks reasonable, but I'm sure it adds up fast. However, our server gave us a $20 gift card at the end of the meal and told us that he hoped we would come back to try Uni again! And judging by the top quality of the food, the nice atmosphere, and the good service, we definitely will! read more

I've been to several well known sushi/sashimi spots; Uni Sashimi bar takes the cake for spot number 1. It is puzzling to me that this spot has received anything lower than 5 stars on yelp. My boyfriend and I are seasoned foodies, and sashimi just so happens to be among our top 5 favorites long with tapas style servings. Chef Tony Messina, a native of East Boston, ingeniously married these two to create a unique, adventurous menu that changes daily. We dined at the bar with Tony tonight and were blown away with his creativity and close attention to detail. Each bite was an experience/journey as each flavor surfaces on your palette. We ordered the tuna ceviche, hirame, hon hamachi toro, sake toro, hotate, warm oysters, takoyaki, foie gras & unagi along with a complimentary chefs dish named Nino negri. Each dish was beyond excellent. In addition to phenomenal food, the service here was note worthy. Grace, our server, kindly explained the menu and made some sound recommendations. She checked in with us regularly, especially to clear the empty plates quickly as the next came. We will 100% visit again soon. We truly enjoyed ourselves. read more

This is the WORST dining experience I have since I came to US 5 years ago. Under COVID-19, Uni certainly does not prepare well. It was a rainy day with heavy winds. Google map open hour is 5pm so we went to Uni at 5:30. The server said that they didn't open until 6pm. And the manager offered us with cocktail menu and I didn't want to bother them so I left. I came at 6:03pm and there were few people sat before us. They sat under umberellas. The server took us to a seat without umberella. I asked if we could sit under the empty seat with umberella. She refused me and offered me a hand umberella instead. Did she expect us to eat with umberella on hand...? I had four shopping bags and asked her if she could take them inside until we finished the meal. She asked her manager again and refused us again. The actual server came with water and said nothing to us. I felt angry and sad so I left without having meal. I came from Providence and had heard about Uni long time ago. I really wanted to try but it truly let me down. read more

A few of my friends and I came here a few days ago to try their late night menu. We ordered a bunch of things to try. They were quick on taking your order and first thing came out were the ramen soups. It literally took just a few minutes. Upon trying it, it was SALTY, more salt then necessary. It definitely took away the taste of the broth and the noodles. The noodles were ok but not very firm which is what I would have preferred. Next, we ordered one of each of their buns. One was pork and the other was duck. The pork belly was somewhat fatty. My friends thought it was ok but it wasn't very exciting and it didn't WOW them. I didn't care for it since I am not huge into foods with lots of fats. The duck one was good. It was small pieces of duck wrapped in a white bun with chips inside to give it a lil bit of a crunch. There were also some veggies in there as well. The bun was very small and it was $6. Definitely over priced. We also had their hotdog. Strange. It was sweet and sour veggies on top and the hot dog bun was toasted. It was unusual. A lot of people don't like sour kraut on hot dogs but i do and this didn't do it for me. It apparently didn't do it for my friends either. The food was decent, just a bit pricy and a little too salty on the soup, otherwise it would definitely be 3 stars on food. I gave it a 2.5. Service was horrible after the orders were taken. The busser came around and removed places but no one came around to refill our water. Again, the food was salty and we sat there with empty glasses until we asked the busser if someone could bring some water over. -.5. Would I come back again? No. Would i recommend this to others? No. read more

I may have set my expectations too high for this place. I thought the food was delicious but was not completely over the top. The waitstaff and host were great. They explained what to expect and what time to get back to the restaurant to taste their late-night ramen. Steven was our server and he did an awesome job - thanks! We ordered the pork buns, salmon sashimi, tacos, short rib scallion pancakes, and the ramen. The pork buns were good, but comparing these to Ippudo...Ippudo wins hands down. The pork was a bit dry. The salmon sashimi was very fresh and the plating was nice. I didn't try the tacos but the general consensus from my group was it was good. Now...the ramen. The ramen broth was good but a little bit salty. My boyfriend and I ordered the ramen with the pork but when we got our bowls, there was no pork to be found :'(. We brought this to our server's attention and he apologized multiple times and brought us a plate of pork pieces - super nice and awesome customer service. He explained that the restaurant was still experimenting on the dishes and always appreciated feedback. Overall, the food I would give 3 stars but service was fantastic and reason for the 4 stars. I wouldn't go for the late night ramen again but I would like to try their restaurant Clio (upstairs). read more
