We got a matcha latte with unsweetened almond milk, an americano, a fresh pressed orange juice and a decaf cappuccino with almond milk as well. They were all full of flavor and taste. Ever since they moved to the corner they have been extremely busy at all hours of the day. I don't know how people get work done here because it's so loud, but it's very popular. The drink prices and food prices are pretty decent compared to other cafes. The food is delicious and there's outside seating. The staff aren't the friendliest, very robotic. If you like tall ceilings, clean interior, and holiday decor, then this is the place to grab an espresso and enjoy. I liked my cappuccino and tirimisu. They were both decent. I like the strongness of my cappuccino and found it deeply complex and rich, not too acidic or bitter. It was nice...the only thing that I found interesting was that there's no bathroom and it's a coffee place...so I didn't get more beverages because of this. I was really hoping to get some work done, but this doesn't seem to invite a working space kind of environment. It feels like a catch up with a friend hangout spot. Not a place to linger. Went there in the morning to get breakfast to go. The store is clean and nice designed. Got the spinach pie, matcha latte and regular latte. The savory veggie filling was fluffy, warm and tastes and looks like they use fresh spinach and the phyllo was golden, flaky, perfectly baked and beautifully braided at the crust. The place feels a little unwelcoming, probably due to the design of the place and there's also no bathroom. Not ideal for working or staying at for so long. Much respect to a coffee place that states that their matcha is ceremonial grade! So many coffee spots use culinary grade matcha (the type that ends up being a dark green-brown color and tastes dull like grass) and it makes my lil Japanese heart hurt. I've had their cold brew a couple times as well as their spinach and cheese pie, potato pie, and a grilled cheese sandwich. The pies are super flaky, buttery and delicious and the grilled cheese sandwich was well done as well. This place does seem to go for a more upscale, chic vibe so there wasn't a visible menu of available coffees and prices. This made it a little difficult to try something new or to get an idea of the cost before ordering. A large cold brew was about $5.50. A representative of the Hellenic Republic of Astoria brought me into his inner social club (even more sought after than a Soho House or Ned membership)...you must know a Member of the Hellenic Republic to get this level of privilege and lucky for me...I know a guy. He brought me into what is now the Coffee Renaissance of Astoria / NYC with the likeness of sages and tastemakers paving way for premium coffee who will reveal their secrets if you speak their native tongue. None of this makes sense and as it should, because it's not Just Coffee. It's creativity at its best. The vibe is great at this modernists interpretation of the kafeneío but please, don't mess with the Ellines behind the counter. They know their coffee. Oh and the pastries selection was quite exquisite , just make sure none of it goes to waste (it is considered "megàli amartía to throw food away...even a crumb). Using a coffee in the morning as an excuse to get out of the house for a walk. Today I walked to Under Pressure. Looks like the exterior is getting a facelift and on weekends you'll be hard pressed to not see people sitting outside when it's nice out. The interior is pristine and really modern looking. The coffee spot also bags their own coffee so you know they mean business! The offered pastries are more of the Greek variety and looked freshly baked. I asked for a hot coffee suggestion and the Barista asked if I wanted more milk or less milk and since I said less she suggested a Flat White. Came here for an early bite and got another good breakfast consisting of spanikopita and bougatsa. It's a Greek place but you wouldn't guess that by looking at it. Modern design creating an inviting atmosphete. Guy working there provided excellent service for my takeout order. As for the food? Very good. Portions are slightly larger than Boulis Cafe which is about a 3 minute walk away. Can't go wrong choosing either place. Highly recommend the UNDER PRESSURE ESPRESSO BAR. read more

I had such a good iced cortado here recently. The flavor of the espresso was so rich and full and not at all like the cheap stuff you get at a chain shop. I do wish it could be located somewhere a bit less noisy/on main street because it did make sitting outside to try and write a little difficult. However, it looked really nice and quiet inside and I would definitely try sitting inside next time. You can smell the butter which has a strong scent as soon as you are about to take a bite. I think they should switch recipes if they bake them in house or purchase from a different vendor. Came for the espresso, but stayed for the food. We got the three cheese pie and it was one of the absolute best boreks we've ever had. The pie came slightly warm, which made the phyllo layers slightly harder than what I'm used to fresh. However, all of this was made okay by the fact that the melty cheese inside was probably the best I've ever had. The savory and almost custardy filling was reminiscent of a quiche and finishing the whole thing didn't feel super heavy after. I actually wanted to get another after finishing the first. The cafe had some limited seating inside. I imagine during heavier foot traffic, it may be hard to get a table and might not be a good place to study. You'll see all kinds of people - from families stopping by after a funeral at the Greek church down the street, to groups of attractive European dudes just hanging out at one of the outside tables (it's right next to the train, so it's loud, FYI), to a mix of solo folks / couples doing work indoors (there are 6-7 small tables along the wall inside). It sometimes feels like there are just a lot of men hanging out when I go there, but I'm not complaining. The coffee and iced lattes are super solid (they offer a good selection), and the food is on par with other cafes in the are. Service is really friendly and fast. Came In for the first time this morning. I noticed they have the Freddo espresso and I've always wanted to try it. I regret not trying this place earlier as it is so close to my place. Incredible.. so light and delicious. I had mine done with almond milk (no froth really, which I expected). My boyfriend got the Freddo espresso with the regular milk and it was beautiful and frothy.
