Competition in NYC is fierce so I have to remember to normalize my reviews. If I was new to NYC, this would be a solid 5+ star cafe. Since I am a new yorker with high expectations, this place is a solid 4.5 star adventure (with customer service & atmosphere bumping it into 5 stars! If you are dairy or nut sensitive, the staff is compassionate and knowledgable. They even offer a macadamia nut milk! At first blush, this place is really easy to miss. Definitely do not judge this book by its cover... after a curious pondering, my first visit was a surprise of artsy ambiance and chill weekend vibe (instagram worthy... I'm not an IG cool kid but if I were, this would be my summer photo dream!) The prices are a bit high but it's new york, high quality ingredients, and the staff seem happy... so I'd gladly pay $1-2 more for a relaxing place with good business owners. It's also pretty greek, in an authentic Astoria way... meaning it's just real people doing real things, speaking greek along the way. This was my go to spot during the summer, the amount of essays i got done while being here probably trumps the amount of items I've tried on the menu, it's one of those spots you become a regular because you love your coffee a certain way and 9/10 times they get it right, which for me is really important being that coffee gets me going when I need inspiration. I'm that weird guy that orders Iced americanos with no sugar or milk, I love the boldness of the coffee but that's just my thing. They do something special with the americano, I won't tell you just ask what they do and you'll see why im such a huge fan. Surprisingly enough the croissant sandwiches are soooo delicious, I've had the ham and cheese, and turkey. The 3 star review is because of their clientele, most of the times they have their door open with a herd of chain smokers sitting outside letting the smoke in the shop. Finally got around to going to this place, I have to say it exceeded my expectations. My girlfriend is obsessed with chocolate croissants and told me this was the best one she has had outside of Italy. The cheese pie was also excellent, very different from what I'm used to (growing up Greek) sesame crusted and very flakey with what tasted like a hint of lemon. Not usually one to write bad reviews, but feeling ripped off. Ordered a turkey bacon lettuce tomato sandwich on a roll. It was tiny, there must have been no more than 2 measly slices of turkey. I was still hungry after eating that tiny sandwich. Additionally, a large ice tea was over 7 bucks and didn't seem "large" at all. If I'm paying over 7 bucks for a large ice tea, I'm expecting something that actually feels large. This ice tea was the equivalent of a grande at starbucks, should have been closer to venti to warrant paying as much for an ice tea as I paid for the sandwich. The ice tea and sandwich were good, but not nearly worth what I paid for it. I understand times are tough now but I've ordered from several delis around the area and have never felt ripped off like this. Every deli I've ordered from has provided bigger sandwiches for the same price and have never had the nerve to charge over $5 for a drink. Additionally, the delivery man wasn't wearing a mask. I also read a review that someone saw none of the employees were wearing masks. This is pretty alarming and shows complete ignorance of what's going on with COVID. Love this place. Very cool coffee shop on Steinway and 23rd Ave. I struggled to find in the area a place to work with a chill atmosphere and where I didn't feel awkward sitting for a while. But then I found The Corner Spot! Super laid back get tons of work done. The drinks are very good, and they'll make it the way YOU want it. Also daily selection of pastries, nice cafe sandwiches made to order and bottled drinks They have a TV so if you want to watch a game with your sports team you could catch it here if you wanted. The exterior looks great when you first see this place from across the street. The interior is adorable, although a little dark depending on how cloudy it is outside. We purchased two espresso based coffee drinks. One large latte, and large cappuccino. They were pretty bad. Not at all enjoyable. The espresso either wasn't strong enough, or the pull was way too long and watered the coffees down. The latte was even worse than my cappuccino. My fiance gave me a drink and it was just horrible. I love coffee shops like this. I'm sure this place has its rush hour and it may feel a bit tight inside, but to me, it gives it this coziness. Now, with this pandemic going on, that might not be what anyone wants to hear...but I'm not claustrophobic and enjoy a full train on my commute, so to speak. On this day, I was able to walk in and was greeted by one of three barista's ready to assist. There was a lady with a young girl at her side already with an order ahead of mine and I was in a really good mood. I asked the barista to charge her order together with mine and after getting my coffee I left without saying anything. I would have liked to have known her reaction, maybe one of the barista remembers me and can follow up on this review? None the less, coffee was awesome. I even went back later in the day to get a coffee for my commute home (NJ). I got the house special on both visits.
