Nice establishment friendly staff greets you as soon as you walk in asks you what would you like to order. Different varies of latte's, coffee, matcha's, refreshers. Assorted sandwiches to choose from. Nice comfortable seating area. Love the green and gold decor.
First time to a Mokafe and it did not disappoint. I can only speak for the matcha- since that is what we ordered... and it was SOLID! There is a relatively large seating area inside, and the bathroom is available and pretty clean. They were busy when we got there- but then again it's a Saturday morning so it's to be expected. However, it didn't seem like they themselves were prepared for foot traffic- they only had 2 people working and they were behind on orders. When we got there, they asked us to sit and wait to be called to take our order. We were waiting quite some time. I would say approximately 10-15 minutes. Some other girls who arrived after us ended up leaving after waiting sometime. I would say that's why I dropped the rating 1 star. That being said, the other 4 stars are wholeheartedly for the matcha. - Matcha Latte (hot): we ordered the hot matcha latte which I clarified is made with unsweetened matcha powder. We also requested oat milk. AMAZING matcha! Like some of the highest quality matcha I have had anywhere. I could tell just based off of the deep green color that it was going to be exquisite. But the taste? Perfect!!! I will definitely be grabbing my matcha from Mokafe any chance I get moving forward. Such a DELIGHT!
First off welcome to Steinway Street! We finally got a chance to come inside this gorgeous place yesterday as usually when I pass it they aren't even open. They had a sign outside and I was reading it to see if they had lavender simply because it's a Saturday morning and I have both the baby and dog running errands today and here comes Ellie. She is so so sweet! So welcoming and just invited us in saying she did have exactly what I needed! As we walked in, I looked around and was just marveled at the decor. That green furniture looks so pretty and comfortable. I would definitely come back here just to sit and have a coffee with my mom or best friend. I had the iced matcha with lavender and oat milk. It was perfect! Not too much ice and the lavender taste wasn't too overpowering. Again, thank you for having us and Ellie you were just so sweet to us! I had to give you a special shoutout. See you soon!
Very trendy and modern cafe with a variety of drinks and trendy sweets. I ordered the matcha latte regular but they offer a variety of marchas including matcha chai, which sounds pretty interesting. They also had an ube latte on the menu and I saw lots of desserts like the viral Dubai chocolate , pistachio croissant, an ube cookie, and more. I am really impressed with the ambiance and interior. Coming here on a 90 degree hot day was like a breath of fresh air! They also have plush chairs and plenty of comfortable seating. I am in love with the jade plants, snake plants, and clean white/green decor. I got some work done here and connected to their WiFi, which was very nice! Overall a very classy and cool (quite literally) cafe. Nice to visit on a hot summer day.
I tried the dubai pistachio chocolate bar & it was amazing! The chocolate itself was not overwhelming and light. The crunch (from the khunafa) was so enjoyable! The pistachio chocolate was super delicious with just the right of sweetness (not overwhelming sweet). Excellent product! If I ever come back (and w/ an empty stomach), I will try their other desserts. There are too much delicious food options near this neighborhood - too dangerous!
As you'd note in my recent reviews, I'm in this huge Pistachio Latte phase so basically checking off places that serve it. Have had my eye on this place as it seemed very promising. First off, the place is pretty with their all green theme with nice tables, seats, bar seating with charging station. The staff is warm and friendly, shout out to Ellie. She was super nice. Probably the reason why this is a 4-star. The Pistachio latte though was just a latte. No hint of pistachio for me, not sure if they have Pistachio milk, cream, or syrup. It tasted just like a regular latte. I would know, I have a subscription to Pistachio milk and make my own pistachio latte every day. So I hope they really improve on this as I wouldn't mind coming back. Toilet was also kinda dirty and not kept well, so much so that I just left without using it. Hope they take note and work on these as it seems they have a lot of potential.
I came here to get the very popular Dubai chocolate bar. Since k came during my lunch hour I decided to also get a turkey & cheese sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and a very generous size which was super filling. I never had the Dubai chocolate before so I have nothing to compare it to. The bar cost $10, the chocolate is very light and had a nice crunch to it. The pistachio filling was light but I didn't get much of the pistachio taste.

The staff are not only super kind and welcoming, but also outspokenly pro-Palestinian, which makes the space feel even more aligned with my values--it's rare to find a café that cares about justice and community as much as good coffee. Their refreshers are amazing perfect pick-me-up when I don't want caffeine + the weather is hot and the bakery section never disappoints everything tastes fresh and homemade. Whether you're looking for a cozy study spot, a quick drink, or a place that actually stands for something, this café delivers all of it.

This review is solely on the 12 "viral" Dubai pistachio knafa chocolate bars that I purchased from here during those 2 trips. Thanks to Tik Tok & FB, smh. My daughter and I really wanted to try it once, and now she is obsessed with them. The pistachio cream combined with knafa inside tasted rich, crispy & creamy, and reminds me of Ferrero Rocher or Bueno but with pistachio instead of hazelnut. The staff are friendly, and the cafe itself looks very modern & nicely decorated. Besides the chocolate bars, they also have a variety of drinks (coffee, tea, refreshers, lattes), pastries, desserts, and sandwiches. Omg everything looked so good... Back to the chocolate bars- they make them every morning, and there's a white & milk chocolate option. When you pay with cash, there's a cash discount, and each bar comes out to $8.71. Overall, I think it's really good and lives up to the hype. Must try!
What a beautifully modern cafe! I was mesmerized by all the delicious looking desserts in the window but I came here after stuffing my face for dinner down the block so I was really only looking for a nice warm drink. We ordered the adeni latte and the ube latte. The adeni latte had a rich and deep flavor, as well as a sweetness creaminess from the foam on top. I was a little bit disappointed in the ube latte but that could be because I ordered something less traditional. The ube flavor was a bit lacking and not a sweet as I would've hoped, but they did have simple syrup on tap so that was awesome. I was able to adjust the flavor to my liking ended up much better afterwards. I'd definitely be interested in trying some of the sweets or pastries they have the next time I stop by. I also noticed some other tables with some teapots of various teas so I would love to try that as well.
The biscoff latte is a game changer! Also got a baklava croissant which was such a cool flavor! Ambience is nice and relaxed. Will definitely be here again.
Came here on a Saturday late afternoon....it seemed understaffed. There were two staff members handling customers, restocking and orders, didn't see anyone else, so it seemed a bit slow for orders as there were maybe no more than 15 people at that time. The service was nice enough. There is a beautiful display of sweet treats - would be nice to have maybe labels so people can know what they are. We went for the pistachio tres leches, which was indulgent and different...lots of hues of honey. We went for a simple iced americano with pistachio syrup and my date went for the delicious biscoff lattee (I couldn't bring myself to pay $9 for one lol). Love the glassware and the americano was refreshing and the biscoff lattee is super sweet. Bathrooms needed toilet paper but staff found some and provided. Will be back as the decor is beautttiful! Didn't see any outlets so not sure if working remotely from there is the vibe just FYI.

I loved this place so much that I had to come back after two weeks -- this time with a friend too! I ordered an iced lavender latte with oat milk ($9) and went back to order a turkey and cheddar sandwich ($11) as a midwork pick me up. The latte was amazing. The lavender flavor was integrated incredibly well throughout the whole drink and it gave me the perfect amount of energy to get through my work tasks. Only downside was that it was a bit pricey, but that's the price you pay when you ask for alternative milk... The sandwich was delicious and flavorful. The arugula felt very fresh. Pleasantly unexpected was the honey and red pepper flakes that gave the sandwich a bit of sweetness and a bit of spice! As for the vibes: When I came in, the cafe was quite busy which was surprised me considering it was a Tuesday afternoon! Almost all the seats were taken up, but I was still about to grab an individual seat along the wall and sit my bag in the nook. Talk about smart design! When my friend joined me, we made our way to the quiet space in the back. It was well air conditioned, filled with outlets, and really blocked out all outside noise. Being in the quiet space allowed me to concentrate and be productive - more places should have this! Mokafe is just so beautifully designed to welcome anyone, whether you're popping in to chat with friends, read a book, or work from home. My favorite cafe so far in all of NYC! read more

I wanted to try the Dubai chocolate bar (thanks TikTok) and since my friend lives nearby, we decided to check this place out. The cafe was cute with a lot of seating inside. I bought two Dubai chocolate bars (milk chocolate, shredded phyllo, tahini, pistachio paste). They also had white chocolate, dark chocolate, nutella, and biscoff flavors as well. I liked that they keep the chocolate bars refrigerated so they don't melt. The Dubai chocolate bar was delicious, the shredded phyllo was crunchy and buttery. Service was fast and friendly. Their croissants and crackling drinks seem popular as well, I definitely have to try next time. FYI - if you pay cash, there's a discount. read more
Ever had one of those "why didn't I find this place sooner?" moments? That was me when I stumbled upon Mokafe Coffee House while cafe hopping in Astoria with a friend. The modern interior decor felt like stepping into a trendy design magazine. If you're a student or remote worker, you'll love the abundance of outlets and the reliable WiFi--it's a study spot paradise. Even though I was too full to try anything (thanks to our previous cafe indulgence), we were drawn here by the positive reviews, and they didn't disappoint. There's also a bathroom available, which is always a plus. For a stylish and convenient place to study or work, I highly recommend Mokafe Coffee House. read more
Nice spacious Yemeni cafe. The tea and desserts here are pretty good and not too sweet. Staff are friendly and there are plenty of seats for enjoying some food or working. They have no problem with people staying for a long time. There is even a small outdoor area in the back. read more

We went on a very hot day so it was very refreshing to have a nice cold Matcha, it wasn't sweet so thats a great change from the usual coffee places that make it so sweet !! Note: they give you the matcha in this cup that you can close and take it to go, I even reused it the next few days!! We also order an almond croissant and strawberry 3 leches, I feel the 3 leches was great but could barely taste the strawberry flavor but definitely recommend it I would suggest to try their Almond croissant warm because its better for the texture! read more
Beautiful coffee house in Astoria that is Yemeni and Palestinian owned. The vibes there are very chill with modern decor. It's spacious but it gets busy! I went on the weekend so it was to no surprise that it was busy. I got the sabayah bread (my favorite on any day) and the honey comb bread. Both so good. I never had sabayah drizzled in honey... but now that I have, I can see why it is needed/the norm. The honey comb bread is similar in taste to the sabayah but more like a loaf consistency rather than buttery layers. It is also filled with cheese. We tried the pistachio tart. I liked the pistachio filling but definitely too sweet for me to eat the entire thing. We definitely shared that with our family when we got back to the house. lol. So tiny but packed with so much flavor/sweetness. I regret not trying a croissant. They are huge and look soooo tasty. The coffee that I got was a maple oat latte. I was just interested in trying it that day. It wasn't jampacked with sweetener. It was a great balance of sweet (and it wasn't too sweet at all) and bitterness from the espresso. I'd get it again! But like I said, I'll be back to try more of their coffee. My friend got their raspberry matcha latte. She liked it but had to drain out the raspberry when we got home because she said the raspberry made it taste more bitter than it needed to be. She would have preferred a fruit that was more on the sweet side to play with the bitter matcha flavor. This is the reason why I give it 4 stars. Can't wait for my next visit to see what else they'll have on their drink menu and excited to have another cup of coffee with sabayah here!! read more
Zaatar cream cheese is so yummy! I had the pleasure of visiting during my trip to nyc and I can definitely say that it's an easy go to. I got the salmon cream cheese sandwich with a caramel latte and it was delicious! The cream cheese was a little salty but still yummy! Mokafe is a Yemeni coffee shop and cafe with amazing cheesecakes, specialty desserts such as be bites, and traditional Middle Eastern cheesecakes. We could not resist coming here twice. You order, and they serve you by a number; after you order they bring the coffee and desserts. We found the be bites with honey to be excellent, with a certain amount of honey baked in. Try the exceptional Yemeni coffee as an alternative to drip coffee. Though they offer free wi-fi service, there is easily enough seating to accommodate a huge crowd of visitors. The cafe itself is adorned with traditional Yemeni and Middle Eastern architecture. There are even hookah pipes on display on the walls. We found the employees to be helpful and knowledgeable. Just a few steps away from Little Egypt, you should stop by and sample what they offer. Unlike other specialty bakeries, they are never short on pastries and breads. read more
Really cute spot in Little Egypt. Perfect for studying and chilling with a cup of coffee. I went for the drip coffee and tres leches cake. Total was about $14. I enjoyed the coffee and the cake (it is very sweet, fyi). In terms of the seating, it seemed there was ample space. My favorite part was the mini cubbies spaced between the tables. This is clever as the bar stools don't allow you to hold your handbags. Will come again! read more

This place appeared on my Instagram a couple of times as the hot spot cafe to try. Glad I did. A Yemeni coffee shop. So cute and loving the green vibes. Every part of the decor was well thought out, especially the unique menu items. The winning part for me at this cute little establishment is the unique drinks and pastries, and the fact there was a cafe opened until 3am. Now that is a win in my books. Price wise the norm for a unique latte now is around $7 bucks. And the same for my pastry, around $5. I added a tip to support this cute and vibing place. Asked the Barista for recommendations on my first visit and got their popular Honey Cinnamon iced latte. Very good choice and had that cinnamon toast crunch taste and bitter good coffee mixture. Thanks Mokafe for the great suggestion. The pastries were also a hard choice to choose from. Went with my instincts because green is my favorite color so I went with the pistachio tree leches cake. So moist and rich in flavors. Tasted the pistachio and that special sweetened condensed milk you get in any great tres leches cake. My friend did order a pastry herself and because she can't have too much dairy, she chose the carrot cake slice. This was a bit on the dry and hard side and we had to leave the crust out. Think it wasn't a popular choice amongst the customers and was sitting out for too long. That was the only ok-experience we had here but everything else was fantastic. I would have to come back to try everything else because it was impossible to get everything done in one visit. The next on my radar is the Honeycomb cake and the French Toast latte. read more
Very cute coffee restaurant in the heart of Little Egypt! The decor was really special, and I really liked the color palette... It was really busy on a Sunday afternoon because there was an event happening at the same time. There was just one guy behind the bar making coffee, so it took a beat to get our drinks and impossible to find seating. However, we could tell it was a really beloved coffee shop in the community and definitely wish we could have spent more time there! The coffee selection was expansive, and they had great Yemeni coffee and a delicious looking array of pastries. Prices also felt in-line. I would come back! read more
This cafe is super cute and has an amazinh assortment of pastries. Lots of seating is available, and they have the Dubai chocolates! They also have a cracking chocolate cup that you can get any iced drink in--I got an iced mocha and I will say the chocolate cup elevated the drink to a whole other level. A new cafe in the heart of Steinway has entered the chat!! This one in a kind place has multiple drinks to choose from. My friend and I ordered a hot chai on a cold rainy day and a triangle shaped pastry. I'm not certain what the pastry is called but it was topped off with honey and tasted like a croissant. The chai was amazing, I usually am picky when it comes to chai but this place does it right. The tea is brewed perfectly and it does not take concentrated or artificial like many chained cafes have sometimes. The service is friendly and accommodating. As for their seating arrangements there are so many seats!! Not to mention there is wifi and outlets if you ever want to study here. There's also a bathroom for the customers; I will be coming back here to try their other tea and to relax and study. read more
Eh. This place is shiny and new and nicely decorated but it feels super over priced for the things they offer. Just getting a plain croissant is more than 6 dollars and I know they aren't made from scratch bakery items. The dough tastes like it's premade and the price isn't wallet friendly. Plain Coffee is also pretty pricey. I tried their sabaya? Which is like a flat croissant brushed with honey... wasn't impressed for 8 bucks. Cashiers were all friendly and there's a bathroom here. read more

1st time here, the cashiers are friendly. We got: dark chocolate pistachio knafa, white chocolate biscoff knafa, tres leches cake, & coffee. I only tried the 1st item which was way too sweet. I didn't even taste the dark chocolate. Why is there white chocolate on it? I recommend using 65% cacao, to whoever made it. We should be able to taste the dark chocolate. Tasted like milk chocolate to me. The knafa filling was too sweet. My coworkers liked the items they got. The tres leches looked too sweet, so I'm glad I didn't try it. read more

I've heard tons of great things about Mokafe, and when I saw the featured on Righteous Eats, I knew I had to visit. I had the chance to make the trek to Little Egypt during their recent pre-Eid Festival hosted by Malikah. I was too thirsty for coffee, so I opted for a strawberry cucumber mint refresher ($7.28) and the very last slice of their honeycomb cake ($8.32). I really enjoyed the refresher and there was a lot of pulp so I knew everything was made with fresh ingredients. There wasn't a lot of cucumber in my drink so it tasted like a paler strawberry lemonade with extra mint. The honeycomb cake was really delicious, especially warmed up with honey drizzled atop. The dough was a little denser than I expected, so it is quite filling. The cafe space is gorgeous and inviting, and I loved the center bar with electrical outlets as well. read more

Came here twice because the coffee was so good! The inside is sooo cute Got a lavender latte with oatmilk and it was the perfect sweetness :) my husband had the zaatar cream cheese sandwich and he loved it x read more
Ordered: Pistachio Croissant (~$7) Honeycomb Khaliat Alnahal (~$8) 12oz Iced Yemeni Latte (~$7): with whole milk and house-made lavender syrup Aya's take: There's definitely been an influx of Middle Eastern cafes & coffee shops in NYC which is great to see as a Middle Eastern myself. We stopped by Mokafe on a cold day and it was almost entirely full. The owner was super friendly and explained some of their top items. I was a bit indecisive about which drink to get and he mentioned their house-made syrups. I was pleasantly surprised that they had just made a batch of lavender which they were testing out; I decided to give it a try. The Iced Yemeni Latte was super delicious! The Yemeni coffee beans were fresh, the lavender was delicious and came through in every sip, and it was super creamy. I kind of wish the default milk option wasn't whole milk as it makes the drink a lot denser. They do have other milk options that come at an up-charge. The Honeycomb Khaliat Alnahal was good but could've used more filling, in my opinion. The Pistachio Croissant was outrageously good! The owner also told us that all their pastries are made in-house. The pistachio tasted authentic without additives or that fake pistachio taste that you typically have in pastries. All in all, Mokafe was a good try and I would consider coming back. Mokafe Coffee House deserves all the praise that they've been getting lately as their coffee and refreshers really are fantastic. As I was fasting for the Holidays, I opted for a refresher rather than a coffee but I saw many people who opted for the latter instead. FWIW, Mokafe Coffee House is open very late anyways at least during Ramadan. The refresher I got was the strawberry mint (I believe it was mint)? and it was really nice. Best part is it wasn't 90% ice like other places' refreshers. I didn't have room for dessert from Mokafe as I had brought some knafeh from Al-Sham's nearby (and the owner was very kind and let us bring outside food) but the desserts do look fantastic. I will 110% be back next time I'm in Astoria. read more
