Laptop rules center table
Rachel V.

We stopped by Espresso 77 while waiting for our car to be serviced at Koeppel. The walk from the shop was a bit long, but honestly, quite pleasant. This café has great reviews for its coffee, though the food tends to get more mixed feedback--and I'd say that checks out. My husband and I both ordered the Honeybee, an iced latte with vanilla and honey, and it was excellent. The espresso was smooth, and the vanilla and honey added just the right amount of sweetness. No need to adjust anything--it was perfect as is. Food-wise, I had a ham and cheese croissant that just didn't deliver. It was bland, oddly flavorless, and lacking the savory punch you'd expect. My husband ordered a raisin bagel and wasn't impressed either--he said it just wasn't good. The café itself is spacious with a good amount of seating, including a large communal table in the center that's clearly designated for laptop use. I noticed quite a few reviews complaining about their laptop policy--but honestly, I think the rule makes sense. Laptops are allowed on weekdays at the center table only, and not at all on weekends. And after this visit, I totally get why. There's a tendency for people to treat coffee shops like co-working spaces--camping out for hours, taking Zoom interviews, pacing while on business calls, and just dominating the space with little regard for those who might be stopping in for a quiet break or to catch up with a friend. During our visit, someone next to me was literally on a business call, walking around the café and in and out of the shop, like it was their personal office. Another person was mid-video interview. The entitlement is kind of wild. Some folks think ordering two items earns them the right to set up shop for eight hours. It's disruptive, and it crowds out patrons who simply want to enjoy a drink without feeling like they've stepped into someone else's workday. Biggest thanks to the owner for putting a stop to the laptop free-for-all--because I came for caffeine, not to be trapped in a co-working circus with Zoom interviews, business calls, and dudes pacing like it's their startup headquarters. Sit down. That said, I'd absolutely recommend this place for its coffee--it really was great. The food could use some improvement, but the staff was nice, and the overall vibe is solid if you can find a seat not taken over by someone's entire remote work setup.

Ate here today on a cold Sunday afternoon while taking a walk around my neighborhood. I had brought, drank and ate the hot chocolate and burrata plate that it tasted super good, fresh and delicious. The service there was also attentive, pleasant and friendly. I couldn't agree more. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

One of my coworkers had given me a $10 gift card for Christmas and I finally had the opportunity to use it. I ordered a caramel frappe and a brownie. The caramel frappe was so watered down that it tasted like crushed iced with a splash of caramel. The brownie was good but I feel like they could have at least warmed it up. I would expect their drinks to all be good since the word espresso is in their name. Not sure if I would return.

Chicken Pesto Panini and Chai Latte

I've passed by this little cafe for years now, finally had an opportunity to walk in while meeting up with an old friend! The cafe is a block right off Roosevelt Ave, and nestled into the more residential portion of Jackson Heights. The environment is quiet with everyone's conversations at a low or with their heads buried in their books or laptops. It's a very calm atmosphere. The service was quick and lovely too. I got the chai latte and chicken pesto panini... or should I say two because I ended up splitting the second panini with my friend over how good it was! The chai latte was okay, not particularly anything ground breaking, but I would definitely highly recommend the panini! That being said, I genuinely am surprised at the harsh ratings for this place on Yelp! I was not expecting it from the lovely afternoon I had here! Thank you so much!

Cider. Coffee. Cookies. Panini. Many great options for a snack or meal. It's a pleasant vibe. There's art work on the walls! It is quite attractive for a date or a small group hangout. There's a communal wooden table where you can chill and work on your computer at certain hours. Note: there is a minimum fee to use credit card. It is $7. Bring cash if you just want a coffee or beverage.

When wandering Jackson Heights, you need a nice cafe to relax before exploring your next food destination!! This is my go-to cafe because: 1. Who doesn't want hot apple cider in the winter?! 2. All the art is made by local artists which you can purchase!! What a great place to support the community and get latte. My only qualm is that they run out of seats quickly so be prepared to share a table! All in all, definitely coming back again!

the ambience is great and the food here is good but a bit over priced. I use to drink a lot of coffee here and i never liked the fact that its super inconsistent.

Nice atmosphere, and in warmer weather the outdoor seating is lovely. Great ginger chai's, and assortment of sandwich/salad combos.

Wonderful atmosphere, service and coffee. Brew and serve the same variety of coffee as Gimme Coffee in Ithaca, NY!

969 NYC Coffee - Beef Onigirazu (~$10)

4/5 food 2/5 service…read more This is a quiet, cash-only spot. I came here to do some work, and get a small snack. I came in around 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon. It was dead empty with the exception of one person waiting for their to-go order, and entire time I was sitting there eating and drinking, only three other customers came in. I walked up to the counter to see what the food options were (the onigiri is on display in a case, kinda like a deli shop), and the drink menu is up hanging up high in small print behind the counter. The cashier asked me immediately what I wanted and I told him I was still looking at the menu; he told me to call him over once I was ready so he didn't have to stand. Once I ordered, he asked me if I have cash and asked if they were cash only to which he said yes. Side note: if a shop is cash only, signs should be posted in multiple areas (on the door, at the counter, etc.), and this place did not have any signs. I got the salmon onigiri and a hot lemon ginger honey tea and it came to $8. The tea is from those pre-made jars that you can purchase at any Asian market. The onigiri was very tasty and the rice was very soft. One of the better ones I've had in NYC. After I ordered, I saw a "no laptops" sign tucked away in the corner. So there went my plans of working in a quiet shop, though I did hop on a zoom meeting for an hour on my phone. I made it work. This is a cute spot for grab-and-go, though the service could use improvement. And considering there are no customers, I don't know why there's no laptop rule.

The owner was super friendly, welcoming and just the type of person that makes you want to visit again. Food: wanted to try their sushi but they ran out. The owner said he only makes a certain amount for the day and once they run out, he doesn't make more. I had the calamari sandwich and the pork sandwich. Both very tasty but a bit overpriced for my opinion. $10 for a pork sandwich seems a bit much. They really need to update the online menu because it says $5 on it so was quite shocked when I got there and saw the price. All in all, it is a nice place to visit with great staff and yummy food but with that price, won't be going as often as I would like.

So when he mentioned how his burger was the most popular item, I definitely had to give it a shot - $8.75 for a no frills 8oz Angus burger with American cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce (I believe I saw pickle was available, but didn't get it). What I got was the 8oz of meat, but it was on a gorgeous brioche bun, with 2 slices of beefsteak tomato and really fresh lettuce. The red onions were meticulouslu cooked down in garlic butter on his griddle, and the burger patty (100% fresh, by the way) was cooked on grill using wood chip-fueled fire. Like I said, the guy really cares about his food. The meat was cooked to order, and all of the ingredients (bun, produce) were from LOCAL SHOPS freshly delivered every morning, so no unfresh ingredients. He dared me to eat this burger and come back to tell him it's not the best in the area, and I think he has an argument. So if you want to get a really good burger, all while supporting a 1-man show who supports Astoria's local businesses, stop by! This place is a great addition to the neighborhood, and I can't wait to try the rest of his sandwiches.

Both came with generous amounts of meat, not too saucy either which sometimes makes sandwiches soggy. I got the regular sub size which I ate half of. It can easier feed 2 people! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a sandwich from Stacked since I haven't had one in a while. I I walked in and waited to be greeted while the staff chatted and gazed at me for about 5ish minutes or so. Finally, I'm acknowledged and asked "what can I get for you". I saw they had a Thanksgiving sandwich called the "Gobbler". I asked how long they would have it as even though it's the November special, sometimes places might make it last through the holidays. When asked I was told "it will be available until whenever November ends". This whole interaction made me feel so unwelcome. It didn't look like there was much going on there in the relm of orders, but it still took them a while to make my sandwich. Finally they bring it to the front counter. Pack it in paper and a paper bag and I'm off. I didn't have much time to eat so I scarfed it down in my car before heading down Queens Blvd. It was very good. Not my favorite, but def has potential. I also feel like, though this is a nice sized sandwich, they were a bit stingy this time around. I would say the star was the stuffing. It just tied everything together. As you all know, I love a good sandwich shop. I wish this was as good as it once was to me. Not sure if I'll give it one more shot just yet.
