One of my favorite things about Queens, is places like that. They make you feel like you're in a small town in the big city. Went here for the first time and the service is so good and welcoming and this matcha latte looked and tasted great. It would be a great place to catch up with friends or get some work done. It seems simple but I love when you can tell the people that work somewhere enjoy being there because it makes me enjoy being there more. 10/10 would recommend and would stop by again when I'm the area!

Current menu but also, buy the croissants!

What a great addition to the neighborhood! Cool Beans recently opened maybe about a month or two ago but I finally came around to their shop last week. CROISSANTS! We have a terrible shortage of delicious croissants in the neighborhood once Cote Soleil closed but thankfully we have Cool Beans. They source their pastries locally and I've already tried the plain, chocolate and almond croissants. Amazing! Just the right amount of butter and fluffiness that's needed. The almond croissants are not overly sweet like some other spots and although I'm more of a chocolate croissant fan, I can see myself converting. Customer service here is also stellar! I've been there twice and each time the staff has been super nice and are always talking to their customers. They also offer great suggestions and tips (hello Chobani oatmilk extra creamy). I haven't tried all of their holiday drinks but I'm a fan of the pumpkin spice latte. Unfortunately, I'm not too big of a fan of their La Colombe coffee but that's just my preference.

I've been coming here ever since moving to the neighborhood. From the name, I thought it was a coffee shop, but this is an MVP all-around neighborhood joint - with sandwiches, coffee, baked goods, the works! Everything they have here is excellent. I've been moving through the menu slowly and have NEVER been disappointed. The food is always fresh and the hospitality makes me feel like I live in a little holiday Lifetime movie town, except it's genuine. This is that rare combination of food and warmth that makes you wonder why you're rushing around all of the time. Come for the n-the-moment-ness that the food, drinks, and staff provide. So far, I have had the cappuccino, a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese, and a few breakfast sandwiches. One day I ordered the roast beef sandwich on a whim and took it home. As I ate it, I wondered what kind of sorcery was involved in this food experience I was having. It is the best roast beef sandwich I've ever tried. I'd rotate this picture but I'm not done eating.

The decor is nice but this cafe is not my cup of tea. Kind of pricey and I do not get good vibes from the owner.

It was dead empty with the exception of one person waiting for their to-go order, and entire time I was sitting there eating and drinking, only three other customers came in. I walked up to the counter to see what the food options were (the onigiri is on display in a case, kinda like a deli shop), and the drink menu is up hanging up high in small print behind the counter. The cashier asked me immediately what I wanted and I told him I was still looking at the menu; he told me to call him over once I was ready so he didn't have to stand. Once I ordered, he asked me if I have cash and asked if they were cash only to which he said yes. Side note: if a shop is cash only, signs should be posted in multiple areas (on the door, at the counter, etc.), and this place did not have any signs. I got the salmon onigiri and a hot lemon ginger honey tea and it came to $8. The tea is from those pre-made jars that you can purchase at any Asian market. The onigiri was very tasty and the rice was very soft. One of the better ones I've had in NYC. After I ordered, I saw a "no laptops" sign tucked away in the corner. So there went my plans of working in a quiet shop, though I did hop on a zoom meeting for an hour on my phone. I made it work. This is a cute spot for grab-and-go, though the service could use improvement. And considering there are no customers, I don't know why there's no laptop rule.

The owner was super friendly, welcoming and just the type of person that makes you want to visit again. Food: wanted to try their sushi but they ran out. The owner said he only makes a certain amount for the day and once they run out, he doesn't make more. I had the calamari sandwich and the pork sandwich. Both very tasty but a bit overpriced for my opinion. $10 for a pork sandwich seems a bit much. They really need to update the online menu because it says $5 on it so was quite shocked when I got there and saw the price. All in all, it is a nice place to visit with great staff and yummy food but with that price, won't be going as often as I would like.

So when he mentioned how his burger was the most popular item, I definitely had to give it a shot - $8.75 for a no frills 8oz Angus burger with American cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce (I believe I saw pickle was available, but didn't get it). What I got was the 8oz of meat, but it was on a gorgeous brioche bun, with 2 slices of beefsteak tomato and really fresh lettuce. The red onions were meticulouslu cooked down in garlic butter on his griddle, and the burger patty (100% fresh, by the way) was cooked on grill using wood chip-fueled fire. Like I said, the guy really cares about his food. The meat was cooked to order, and all of the ingredients (bun, produce) were from LOCAL SHOPS freshly delivered every morning, so no unfresh ingredients. He dared me to eat this burger and come back to tell him it's not the best in the area, and I think he has an argument. So if you want to get a really good burger, all while supporting a 1-man show who supports Astoria's local businesses, stop by! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a sandwich from Stacked since I haven't had one in a while. I I walked in and waited to be greeted while the staff chatted and gazed at me for about 5ish minutes or so. Finally, I'm acknowledged and asked "what can I get for you". I saw they had a Thanksgiving sandwich called the "Gobbler". I asked how long they would have it as even though it's the November special, sometimes places might make it last through the holidays. When asked I was told "it will be available until whenever November ends". This whole interaction made me feel so unwelcome. It didn't look like there was much going on there in the relm of orders, but it still took them a while to make my sandwich. Finally they bring it to the front counter. Pack it in paper and a paper bag and I'm off. I didn't have much time to eat so I scarfed it down in my car before heading down Queens Blvd. It was very good. Not my favorite, but def has potential. I also feel like, though this is a nice sized sandwich, they were a bit stingy this time around. I would say the star was the stuffing. It just tied everything together. As you all know, I love a good sandwich shop. I wish this was as good as it once was to me. Not sure if I'll give it one more shot just yet.
