We were craving a midday pick-me-up, so I searched around on Yelp and found Balancero. And once I saw its nearly 5-star rating, I *HAD* to see if it really lives up to the hype... Balancero is a tiny hole-in the-wall spot that operates more like a walk up-window than a traditional cafe. The interior is probably only about 200 square feet, with a minimalist vibe and most of the space taken up by the barista station. There's no indoor seating, just standing room for about 3-4 people. You can grab a spot on one of the outdoor benches. The menu is simple, with all of the classic coffee drinks plus specialty teas. They roast their own beans in the basement, so you can actually catch that fresh coffee aroma while walking along the street! They also have a small selection of pastries, including their famous mini donuts! We ordered iced lattes ($5.75 each) and the barista had our drinks ready pretty quickly. The verdict? It was love at first sip. The espresso was perfectly balanced with the milk - smooth, creamy, and still bold and strong. It had this burnt, roasted, and slightly smoky flavor with a hint of caramel that I loved. This is the kind of latte that instantly elevates your mood. I'm not a huge coffee snob, so I didn't ask about the specific roast or bean origin. All I know is that it was GOOD, okayyyyy?! It definitely stood out from other lattes I've had. While regular customers may already know this information, having to ask so many questions made the experience less enjoyable. I hope this feedback is helpful, as clearer labeling would make a big difference for new customers.

I wanted a sugar free option, which they didn't have any syrups (which I understand; natural is better) so I just got a plain oat milk iced latte and added about 4-5 splendas because I like it sweet. And oh my god; that espresso tastes amazing. They use the same oat milk as Starbucks I'm pretty sure, so I was really able to tell a difference in quality. It was a back and forth conversation where I mentioned to them that places like Kettl (who import their own matcha) charge less than they do and use way more matcha per serving. Second barista came from the back and in front of all the customers asked me "do you make matcha at home"? I replied and said "yes" Her response was classic, she then asks me: "then why are you here"? Seriously, that's how you talk to customers? I responded: "why not"?!?! I can't question what I'm buying because you guys are actually doing it wrong? I guess not. It's shut up and put up at OK Cafe now. I've been a customer here for years but I definitely won't be going back for now. And to the owners, who are a lovely couple... please go do a matcha tasting somewhere in the city and come back refine your matcha recipe and what you're charging the customer.

He recommended for my date an espresso martini which they absolutely loved, they said it was the best they've ever had. Most standard coffee options are available here, from lattes to iced coffees and most are priced well. Like many popular cafes their busiest times are usually in the morning or on occasion the weekend. For the most part the service is quite good. Baristas are friendly and they do a good job at keeping the place clean. This also applies to their bathrooms.
