Place looks nice, service was good but unfortunately, food was fair. Started with the burrata. Visually appealing and looked like a large portion with all of the accoutrements. Unfortunately, it was totally bland and not large at all. The side sauce added nothing and over 30$ with tax/tip. For entrees, we shared the lobster pasta and the guazzetto di Pesci. The pasta was good. Reasonable amount of pasta but we would have liked some more chunks of lobster for the price. I thought the sauce was only ok but my girlfriend liked it. The guazzetto di Pesci was only fair. The sauce was lacking flavor. Also a very small bowl of broth with maybe 3 small shrimp and muscles, a few small chunks of fish. and two sad, tiny pieces of bread on the side. Since we were still quite hungry after the meal, we ordered the lotus chocolate caramel dessert. This was the only dish we really liked. kinda hard to mess up gelato though. It came with a hard outer candy shell and a very small cookie center that was sweet and delicious. Overall, an average meal at best that we both felt was lacking in taste and size. We came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon as a group of six. Overall, the food was pretty good and the service was fine, but both the service and food were noticeably slow. They did bring out complimentary bread, which was appreciated, though it felt like something that should be standard rather than a highlight. One item someone in our group wanted -- the octopus burger -- was unfortunately unavailable, which was disappointing, especially given that it was brunch and still relatively early in the day. That said, the dishes we did order were good and well prepared. The space itself is nice: the front functions as a cute coffee shop, while the back has tables for sit-down dining. Because of that setup, the vibe feels more casual, but the menu offers solid options. Perfect spot for a girls night! I'm so glad San Babila opened on the UES - it's a great addition to the neighborhood. Came on a friday night with my girlfriends. We were a little late for our reservation, and they gave our table away, which was quite annoying. However, the service, hospitality, and food more than made up for it. Someone came over to apologize for the mix up and offered us complimentary white wine while we waited for another table to open up. The wine was delicious! When we were finally seated, we started with some drinks. I got the Speranza, and it was light, fresh, and delicious! We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary bread basket brought to the table, as it's a rarity in nyc these days. We split a burrata amongst the table. Loved the addition of figs. I ordered the rigatoni all'aragosta for my dish, which was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. There was a decent portion of lobster in the dish, and I couldn't even finish all of it, I was so full. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in a while. My friends ordered the bolognese and the fettuccine alla nerano, and they enjoyed their dishes as well! We skipped dessert this time, but I would definitely be back for it. I also want to try the paccheri next time, as well as their coffee shop in the mornings! Overall, a well executed restaurant with great ambience (would be great for a date night with the dim lighting and ability to hear each other speak). They just need to get a bigger dining room so they can seat more parties because they always seem to be booked full! read more

This was a random find for a beautiful breakfast. Spacious with earthy colors all through the dining area. Beautiful set up, sitting area in front and spacious dining towards the back. The staff were helpful and attentive. The food was delicious. Yummy omelette with sides. My only complaint was that the bacon was chips crispy, would have liked it a bit chewy. They have some specialty coffees/lattes so naturally I had to get one of them. I got the cocco mello - has coconut flakes and 3 espresso shots. It didn't taste coconuty and it was slightly frothed. It was $9.79, which is quite steep for a drink and considering it was in a skinnier glass. The barista was nice and she brought me a water cup too. The place is super cute and vibey. I liked the green velvet and warm touches - from the bar to the dining room area. I will say, I think the high top tables at the front are too tall for the stools. Such a great addition to the upper east side! Came here for dinner on a Thursday night and had a lovely experience. The inside is dimly lit and they were pretty busy but it was not too loud at all. We started with the truffle potato cacio e pepe which was absolutely delicious. The truffle wasn't overpowering and the sauce was amazing. We split the lobster rigatoni and the pappardelle and both were incredible. The rigatoni has large lobster chunks and I normally do not like bolognese sauce but it was incredible with the pappardelle. Second dining experience at San Babila, and it was just as excellent as the first. Our party sat at the bar and started off with cocktails, followed by the focaccia with garlic butter and the arancini. Wow, both of these appetizers were insanely good, and I highly recommend both. For our mains, we ordered the Cacio e Tre Peppe, the risotto, and the Gnocchi. The Gnocchi was the star of the evening, followed by the Cacio e Tre Peppe. San Babila is solid, has a good vibe, and won't disappoint. It was a good experience but might need a little tweaks (just my thoughts) to be a more standout experience. The Cacio e Pepe potato antipasti was good, with some truffle shavings on top. It wasn't the hottest when we got it, maybe a little warmer than lukewarm. But the Cacio e Pepe was delicious. My entree of gnocchi with mushroom and truffles was a little too similar to the appetizer, though that is probably an error on my part. The consistency and the sauciness was too similar. It was good but likely could have used some more freshly ground pepper, maybe some more salt, or something more. It didn't quite hit home for me. My wife got the lobster pasta dish, which was good but also needed a little something extra... maybe some spice/heat or something. Stopped by for lunch with a friend. She grabbed a cacio e tre pepe ($32) and I got the lobster rigatoni ($38). Everything was... fine. Service was decent (the place was fairly empty for a mid-weekday lunch, but to be expected given the area) but the food was best described as average. My friend's cacio e pepe didn't have enough kick/pepper and my dish wasn't very flavorful. I did bring home half my dish as leftovers and with a night in the fridge, it did absorb more flavor - and my husband enjoyed the leftovers more than I enjoyed my original lunch! Will give them a try for coffee in the near future. The space and interior are gorgeous, it's just a shame that there's construction next door for the foreseeable future. read more

Side sauce was not very flavorful, for dinner we ordered the lobster pasta, and the guezzetto di pesci. The pasta was good, reasonable size amount of pasta, but we would like some more chunks of lobster for the price. I did like the sauce, though. The other dish was lacking flavor. My friend D moved into a small apartment next door and has been raving about this place, ordering takeaway frequently but never braving solo dining. We changed that situation last night. Highlights for me included the black truffle gnocchi, which was incredibly tasty. Couldn't stop eating it! Tuna tartare was fun but I hated the lack of crunch that typically goes with it. I wanted chicken on my salad and the side of chicken was $16 but looked ridiculously small for the price, would not recommend. Was delicious so I guess I can't complain too much. Stopped by this newly opened cafe and soon to be bar/restaurant! They currently have drinks/pastries in the morning and then drinks at night. The pistachio croissant was tasty. I liked how it wasn't too sweet with a nice legit pistachio flavor. Croissant could have been flakier even after reheating it. The ham and cheese croissant was decent; appreciated the ratio of ingredients to the croissant, but otherwise average. Not sure if they outsource their pastries. My latte and cold brew were mediocre at best. The latte was watered down and cold brew a little burnt. Staff were polite! I do like the interior decor, especially the velvet green seats and green/brown accents. I liked the floor to ceiling windows which offer a great amount of natural light. A few tables in the front available but otherwise the back restaurant is not ready yet. Don't think I'll be coming back for breakfast, however I do look forward to checking out their drinks and restaurant when they officially open! read more

We enjoyed our appetizers which were the fritto misto and the arugula salad with fried artichokes. I was disappointed in the lobster rigatoni and thought it was pretty flavorless. The steak and potatoes entree was very good though, it was cooked well and the truffle aioli was a nice addition. For a new restaurant, a bit disappointed that we had to ask the waitress to walk us through the menu as I felt they should be excited and call out their favorites or signature dishes. San Babila is honestly one of my favorite spots in the city. The vibe is beautiful -- cozy, stylish, and just really good energy all around. I've been a bunch of times now, each time with a new friend, or a group of friends, and it's always a great experience. The cocktails are amazing -- the Aperol Spritz and Negroni are my go-tos, and the one with basil (can't remember the name!) is so good also. Food-wise, everything I've tried has been delish. I'm not even a gnocchi person, and I tried some of my friend's order: the gnocchi al tartufo and it was so pillowy and delicious. If you are a gnocchi person you should definitely get this. Also, the ragù di osso buco and branzino are really good, and the truffle potato cacio e pepe is amazing. And get the fries. They're the best fries ever, especially with a side of Caesar dressing and garlic aïoli. You'll thank me later. Everyone who works there is so kind and welcoming -- from Camilo, to Matthew (who makes the best morning coffee there) to Kimberly, Marc, and of course Chef Francesco. You can tell they care, and check on you during your time dining. It's also just a great place to sit at the bar for a drink or grab brunch. It's not too loud, there's nice music, and amazing food. I went to the grand opening of San Babila the other night and have to say I was blown away. This is some of the best pasta I've had in NYC. They have so many incredible options too, each one with such a unique flavor. The service was incredible and quick for how busy they were, and the inside is really chic. A co worker bought us some of your croissants that was delish. I decided to buy a few different items today for us to try. I walked in smiled and said good morning placed my order and ask the flavors of certain item she seemed annoyed then the other person placed my tea down, I said I ordered a large she the proceed to tell me it will taste weird to which I said to her normal places, add two teabags when you order a large, she then poured the small tea into a large cup and added more hot water and of course the tea was horrible when I asked for an Apple soft cake she put it in a bag I ask her to place in box because it'll get smudge which it did. My server Atika also asked me if I wanted my change? Can you wait for me to tip you. At the end I couldn't wait for her to put my items in a big bag I just wanted to get out of the store.
