Tomato quiche
Michelle L.

It's a small cafe without a bathroom. I got a Turkish coffee and tomato quiche. The quiche was a decent size and tasty. They have self-serve water. They sell tea and coffee.

Cute, intimate coffee shop with various syrups and pastries for purchase to go. We ordered 2 almond milk cortados with extra espresso. PERFECT temperature!! Foam was also great. Service was very friendly as well. Great local coffee house!!

Nice spot! I had the tomato quiche which was alright, nothing special but not bad at all. The coffee was good and the woman working was very friendly. They have wifi but not too much seating. They don't have a bathroom either so definitely not a place you could stay at for long. Nice little spot to get work done for a little while though.

I got the chance to try a random smattering of their baked goods thanks to TGTG but my favorite has gotta be the multi grain croissant! I will say I'm a sucker for croissants but it means I've tried a lot of them. Croissants don't taste healthy and that's okay. Their croissant managed to be flaky on outside, earthy, nutty, and just so perfect! I could probably order a dozen to go based on the taste alone and I'd be okay with any price. I saw people lounging outdoors but they have a small space indoors. I was greeted immediately when I stepped in. I would visit again!

I couldn't leave this neighborhood without trying one of their Portuguese egg tarts. The last time I was here, I visited the Cafe too late and they sold out. This time I visited them during lunchtime and they still had some left. Yay!! I bought 2 for $5 cuz is a better deal than buying 1 for $3. I shared with my hubby. The egg tart had good flavor and it was a decent size. I wish I had eaten it right when I bought it but I wasn't taking the train home so I had to wait. I think it would have tasted better but it was still good later on. I would love to try their other desserts next time I'm in the area. It's a cute little Cafe with a few seats. I think it is more of a grab n go place really. Check it out!!

Le Reveil is an adorable coffee shop on the UES located above the Q train. The decor is very artsy and aesthetically pleasing. The baristas have all been pretty good and friendly. I have been pleased with all of my drink choices so I believe that they use excellent quality coffee, ingredients and machinery. I've added their lavender syrup to a few of my hot drinks and if you like a little floral hint, I recommend adding it to a latte. I typically get a couple of Brazilian cheese balls and Portuguese custard tarts because I cannot resist. I've also tried some of their other pastries which have also been fresh and tasty. I'm happy that this is just two blocks away from home and conveniently located near the train station.

I am mortified by this experience: I came in here several times upon its opening (or slightly later?) to collect pastries. The second and third time, there were fruit flies flying around- usually this bothers me, but I thought nothing of it. But noted they were in the bakery case. Also I had just purchased a bread container, so this I was excited about. I had never used one before and hate/never leave any food out. EVER. Fast forward: EIGHT MONTHS LATER I am STILL dealing with an INSANE fruit fly infestation. See photos. These are the ONLY pastries I purchased and put into the container. They begat an ENTIRE INFESTATION of fruit flies, which I am STILL dealing with, TO THIS DAY. I am absolutely mortified and will never go here again. Yes they definitely came from here, no contest. As mentioned earlier, I NEVER leave food out (nor do I buy pastries) excepting this one (few ) instance(s here only) with the bread box with holes-- this is what happened. Beware. This was one of the worst, most disgusting/mortifying experiences of my entire life

Dubai Chocolate Bar
Phoebe B.

I was passing by Le Reveil Coffee when I saw a sign that they had a handmade version of the viral Dubai pistachio chocolate bar. The inside is small but cute. There's one large table that can seat a few people and another table by the window that can seat a few more. There's also a wall dedicated to different types of coffees, teas, syrups, etc which was pretty cool. I bought two of the chocolate bars to try and also share with my family. The bars are beautiful. I haven't had the original Dubai one so I can't compare; however it is really good! They are pretty pricey but I'm happy to have had the experience. I also got a fairy dust matcha. (I had to ask what it was haha). The girl working there was very nice. The flavors that I remember are matcha, cucumber, and lavender. She said it was like a lemonade. I honestly didn't expect to like it. I don't usually like lavender flavored things. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The cucumber shines through the most and keeps it refreshing. My total was $61.50 for the 3 items which is pretty expensive. I guess considering that pistachios are already expensive it's a fair price. Their pastries looked really good and I would return to try them.

I haven't been uptown much since the pandemic. After making a donation at the ASPCA on 92nd between York and 1st, I started walking down 2nd avenue: Lots of interesting restaurants and bars, something for everyone. I noticed almost all the food carts did not have prices on them. I was looking for a snack and walked in "the dream." Their pastries looked good and also did not have prices marked: I opted for a Parmesan and leek savory pastry $4.50) which satiated my snack needs. Cute little coffee shop with international snack food. I'd pop in again should I be wanting a bite in the neighborhood.

Iced Matcha Latte w/ Vanilla Syrup & Iced Turmeric Latte Price
Boralina B.

The drinks were not at all worth the price, even for the city. The cafe had a $1 surcharge for iced drinks on top of the regular price listed on the menu. This is something found on the bottom of the menu, so I had honestly not seen it when ordering. But once my order was put in the register and I saw my total, I just chalked it up to this being a cafe in the city and didn't think too much of it. Once the drinks were served though, there was little to no ice in the cups (with the matcha latte being served much hotter than room temperature) and the drinks were no where near full (which I can understand being a thing in some places in the city, but it meant more ice should have been added especially considering the surcharge). The drinks were okay overall, but being served a warm matcha latte when we were explicitly charged for an iced drink was a strong drawback. The ambiance in the cafe is nice, it's very well decorated and made for a great study session. The tables though seemed to not be routinely cleaned, as crumbs and a variety of drink stains/splashes covered the table. The service was okay, but the cashier seemed very annoyed when I had asked to add another drink to my order (which I can understand, but it was nonetheless disheartening). I'm will not be coming back due to my disappointing experience, but for those who do: just stick to hot drinks and their baked goods.

Pastel De Nata
Steph W.

Review only for their Pastel de Nata! I was drawn in from their outdoor advertisement of the pastel de nata. I've had it in Portugal as a reference to the original taste and loved them there. The inside is tight but there's some seating available. They have all sorts of desserts including cakes, pie, pastries, donuts, muffins, etc. There were several pastel de nata on display (40+) and I asked the front staff if they cook them daily. She claimed that several batches are cooked throughout the day. Sad to report that the nata did not taste fresh and was very soggy and sweeter than what I remembered Portuguese nata tasted like. I took one bite and had to take the rest home so I could crisp it with my air fryer. $3.37

Finally stopped by to check out their Portuguese egg tarts and coffee! The egg tarts were tasty but the texture really confused me. I very much enjoyed the crunchy and buttery outer pastry. The filling had strong egg-y and vanilla flavors, not too sweet, but the filling was too soft, almost runny - as if it hadn't been baked thoroughly? I've had a lot of Macanese Portuguese egg tarts and other egg tarts growing up but I've never had ones with a runny filling (when its not supposed to be lava), and not sure that it should be that runny? Not sure if I just got a bad batch? Also got myself a loco latte which is coconut syrup in a latte. The coconut flavors were indeed prominent but it tasted a little artificial especially when there was way too much milk and not enough coffee/espresso flavors. The store itself is pretty cute with wooden logs as chairs/wooden tables. Its a nice cozy space to do some work or enjoy your paper. Staff were nice and food came out quick. Seemed like they had lots of other baked good options and other packaged things for sale.

There are a few very important things to know about Le Reveil Coffee, which is an easy to miss cafe between 69th & 70th on the east side of the street. Don't miss out on their OUTSTANDING Coffees, Lattes and exceptionally delicious croissants and pastries. I wandered in a few days ago and walked out astonished that anyone could make such a perfectly brewed and delicious latte! I have been returning every day and have been impressed with the staff's warmth and personal interest in making sure everything I've bought meets my satisfaction. And that's how they treat all their customers! While there are lots of places to buy coffees, they are not all equally good and some are surprisingly bad, however Le Reveil is clearly in a league of their own!

Excellent coffees and amazingly excellent pastries and pasties--savory and sweet--to go along with them, served by friendly baristas.

This was probably the worst matcha latte I've ever had. It was clumpy and tasted like how Play-Doh smells

They have a table to pickup preorders so you don't have to wait in the main line. I ordered a dozen for $39. You can select your assortment. Here's my review in order from the best to the least desirable, according to our group. Vanilla custard- the filling was thick and speckled with vanilla beans. It wasn't too sweet. This was the best according to our group. Strawberry filled- this is most traditional and Breads Bakery does a nice job. The jam is homemade. Pistachio- this doughnut was filled with smooth pistachio cream and was topped with a few pieces of pistachio. Not traditional, but they did a good job. Chocolate- the filling tasted like a semisweet or bittersweet cream/custard. Like the others, it was smooth. The vanilla was more popular among our group and I personally didn't love this doughnut. Mango- this was the one that those in my group felt missed the mark. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, so that was good, but the filling didn't do anything for us either. If you're looking for a mango dessert the one at Lysée is a real winner.

When I moved to the UES, I was worried finding a new local roaster. I've had bad experiences where the beans are too oily or something is off that messes with my usually grind size/extraction time. No issues with Oslo's beans. 2. They actually know how to make a proper americano. Every coffee shop takes a standard cup, puts in the espresso shot, and then fills hot water to the brim of the cup. This destroys the flavor of the espresso. You end up with hot water that tastes slightly like coffee. Oslo chooses quality over quantity. They don't fill the water up to the brim, so you have a cup with 2/3 of liquid; however, this is a proper americano. You can taste the difference. At other shops, I just get drip coffee because they don't know what they're doing. Oslo knows what they're doing. That's why I come here.

We were a little late for our reservation, and they gave our table away, which was quite annoying. However, the service, hospitality, and food more than made up for it. Someone came over to apologize for the mix up and offered us complimentary white wine while we waited for another table to open up. The wine was delicious! When we were finally seated, we started with some drinks. I got the Speranza, and it was light, fresh, and delicious! We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary bread basket brought to the table, as it's a rarity in nyc these days. We split a burrata amongst the table. Loved the addition of figs. I ordered the rigatoni all'aragosta for my dish, which was beautifully presented and tasted even better than it looked. There was a decent portion of lobster in the dish, and I couldn't even finish all of it, I was so full. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in a while. My friends ordered the bolognese and the fettuccine alla nerano, and they enjoyed their dishes as well! We skipped dessert this time, but I would definitely be back for it. I also want to try the paccheri next time, as well as their coffee shop in the mornings! Overall, a well executed restaurant with great ambience (would be great for a date night with the dim lighting and ability to hear each other speak). Also a very small bowl of broth with maybe 3 small shrimp and muscles, a few small chunks of fish. and two sad, tiny pieces of bread on the side. Since we were still quite hungry after the meal, we ordered the lotus chocolate caramel dessert. This was the only dish we really liked. kinda hard to mess up gelato though.
