I went here with my husband and father a couple weeks ago, because we were walking around the city, were tired and hungry, and needed a place to eat. Italian food sounded great. When I saw the menu prices I was shocked, but we decided to stay and have a special family dinner-- we committed, assuming the food would be out of this world great. But it was not. Truly, it was utterly average Italian food. It was solid, but there was nothing special about it. The service was decent, but nothing great. One of the wines cost $38 for a glass!!!!! They tried to charge me an extra $15 for mozzarella on my chicken. Would never go back here. If they cut the prices in half, it would be great. Amazing restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. We walked in and were greeted with so many beautiful desserts and pastries but we came for brunch, so have to see if we will have room to try any after our meal. We decided to order family style because it's our first time here and wanted to try more things. We enjoyed the three types of house bread that tasted freshly baked. For starters we had the Beet Carpaccio, Caprese, Artichoke and Arugula. They were all so fresh and delightful. For main course we had a clam linguine and a veal cutlet. They were both amazing! The taste of the linguine with clam was perfect! The veal cutlet was beautifully presented. I've never seen such a gigantic piece of veal with bone that's perfectly lightly fried. Unfortunately we were too full to order a dessert so we chose to end our meal with some coffee. We ordered a lovely espresso and latte, and our server brought us some complimentary cookies. Walked in to get take out, as their tables were for the restaurant only. Very expensive, an oat latte was $10 and a slice of princess cake was $18 but the packaging was very cute and they taped the cake so it wouldn't move in transit! I have mostly come here for a grab-and-go drink or snack over the years but have also dined in a couple of times, especially for brunch. Their seating area indoors is not huge, but the capacity increases a bit during nice weather in the warmer months as they try to add seating outside as well. The breakfast food here is very enjoyable. Even "simple" pancakes come beautifully adorned with fruit (I even took a photo.) Stopped in for a hot chocolate on a cold walk! When we came in, we didn't see a menu- they don't have one hung up or by the counter. We noticed when we left, that there were a few small paper ones by the door. There was plenty of seating for us to have a seat. They seem to have a full coffee bar and lots of yummy looking pastries. My favorite for many years is the Pasta Bolognese, unfortunately the last time we dined there with friends I was disappointed. The Bolognese was a red sauce the taste was out of a can and pour over. This place gave an upper east side charm and brought it to the next level. The staff was incredibly helpful and great to talk to even though it was a bustling environment. We ate the cake at the bar since they ran out of tables. Every layer of the cake was a new gift for my taste buds. The spongy bottom layer, the mousse middle and the chocolate top left me speechless. This was incredibly rich though so it is definitely not good on a diet. It's also topped off with some fresh hazelnuts for a texture difference. I have been coming to this restaurant for years and have always made sure to book the dining room, and I have consistently been seated accordingly. Today, I had a dining room reservation for dinner but was seated by the door in an area typically used for tea service. After placing our dinner order, including a main course, we politely asked to be moved to the dining room per our reservation. We were moved to the middle section of the restaurant, which still was not the dining room. The area was very cold and drafty, and I had to keep my coat on the entire time due to the wind. I did not appreciate the way management responded to my repeated, polite requests to be moved, especially since I was not a walk-in and had a dining room reservation. This was actually my second visit to the restaurant that same day, which shows how much I genuinely enjoy the food and service. Unfortunately, I was told the dining room was at capacity and that we could wait for a table that was finishing dessert. As a result, I had to cancel my main course and leave. This is the first time I've had this experience here, and I have never had an issue before. read more

So looking forward to my visit to this restaurant. They have completely changed the recipe of the lasagna Verde. Very little of the version I first had of half the meat, half the red sauce and more of the béchamel sauce. It seems the pasta was very thick compared to a delicately thin one from the past. No reservations- so we waited in the extremely tight entryway for a tiny table to open up by the window. We watched as the locals lined the bar for take out coffee drinks & pastries. My husband and I stopped in to have a cappuccino and relax in between shopping. I asked the young lady at the front desk what the procedure was to get our coffee. She was extremely rude and gave us no assistance in navigating through the crowded cafe. Finally we found a woman who took our order but found the process extremely chaotic! My husband attempted to sit down when someone said you can't sit there unless you are eating breakfast. Well if the lady at the front would have taken the time to tell us how the cafe operated we would have gotten something to eat. As it turned out the cappuccino was very average. We were seated only at 3:50pm, and then they tried to blame us for being late for denying the brunch menu. We eventually did get that menu but left within 25 min and won't return. Food was decent but overpriced for the quality. Waitress forgot our drink (we ordered 2 but only received one). 0 time provided to read the menu since they were rushing us for the brunch order. What an experience! I came here for a dinner date with a girlfriend. We shared the Cuteleta alla Milanese which was super light and delicious. The portions are huge so when ordering this dish, please consider sharing. We also ordered a side of rigatoni which had a kick to it (a tad spicy but still yummy). For our appetizer, we had the tuna tartare which was delicious as well! I usually am not a fan of beets however I liked the combination of the avocado, ahi tuna, beets and carrots. But I have to admit this cake was insanely delicious, dreamy, and decadent. The Gianduia cake is one of Sant Ambroeus' classic cakes. It is a delectable combination of hazelnut sponge cake, hazelnut wafer, hazelnut cream, gianuia mousse and milk chocolate glaze. The coffee was, of course, tasty. My friend sweetly brought over a selection of cakes from this location, at an eye-popping price. Taste test between this tiramisu and one from trader Joe's and I kid you not, the trader Joe's one won hands down... The tiramisu from this location felt like they forgot the coffee, whereas the trader Joe's one was robust and full of coffee, flavor and biscuit rather than just cream, (lack of cake/lady fingers in a tiramisu is a personal pet peeve of mine). The standout cake from this location was the hazelnut crunch one. The most popular princess one was just okay. You definitely pay for atmosphere here so I recommend dining in. The service could have been better, for such a high end restaurant, he looked like he was bothered the whole time and acted like we were peasants.
