Walked in to get take out, as their tables were for the restaurant only. Very expensive, an oat latte was $10 and a slice of princess cake was $18 but the packaging was very cute and they taped the cake so it wouldn't move in transit! We were able to sit at the bar and enjoy. Everything was delicious. The princess cake was unique marzipan cake that I'd never had before, light, fluffy and not as sweet as I had imagined it would be!

Amazing restaurant with excellent service and delicious food. We walked in and were greeted with so many beautiful desserts and pastries but we came for brunch, so have to see if we will have room to try any after our meal. We decided to order family style because it's our first time here and wanted to try more things. We enjoyed the three types of house bread that tasted freshly baked. For starters we had the Beet Carpaccio, Caprese, Artichoke and Arugula. They were all so fresh and delightful. For main course we had a clam linguine and a veal cutlet. They were both amazing! The taste of the linguine with clam was perfect! The veal cutlet was beautifully presented. I've never seen such a gigantic piece of veal with bone that's perfectly lightly fried. Unfortunately we were too full to order a dessert so we chose to end our meal with some coffee. We ordered a lovely espresso and latte, and our server brought us some complimentary cookies. Definitely a delicious meal to remember.

I have mostly come here for a grab-and-go drink or snack over the years but have also dined in a couple of times, especially for brunch. Their seating area indoors is not huge, but the capacity increases a bit during nice weather in the warmer months as they try to add seating outside as well. The breakfast food here is very enjoyable. Even "simple" pancakes come beautifully adorned with fruit (I even took a photo.) If you are walking around the neighborhood for a day of shopping or museums, stop by this UES classic.

This was our second time dining at San Ambroeus and I continue to be underwhelmed by the food. The ambiance is great but the service was slow and the food was pretty bland and under seasoned. The chicken paillard and cacio e pepe were both mediocre and we didn't get to try dessert because service was so slow and we had to run to catch a show (we let them know about the timing of the show when we sat down). Especially for the price, I find this restaurant to be overrated.

Pros: Yummy Desserts, friendly waiters Cons: 1. We waited 10 minutes at the front without being acknowledged. 2. Hostess was not friendly. 3. Complimentary bread was cold. 4. My drink was bitter. 5. Food was decent. 6.Cookie base of my pastry was made with a hint of cement.

Absolutely amazing experience today. My friend and I wanted a great Italian experience and they were able to accommodate us quickly and provide us with great seating, service and food! I am excited to return again and enjoy this experience in the near future! The ambiance was perfect and provided us with a true UES experience!

A great spot to pick up desserts from! I especially loved the chocolate cake that was perfectly soft and sweet. They had so many fun desserts on display, would definitely go again to try something new

Wanted a morning drink before a run and ended up here. Great matcha latte. Would recommend this spot.

Quintessential UES vibes. Everytime I go, I must get a soy cappucino and a hazelnut cornetti (perfectly sweet with a hint of orange). It never disappoints. While you wait for your order, you can window shop the stunning pastry case.

Stopped by Sant Ambroeus Madison for a quiet solo breakfast, and it turned into such a delightful start to my day. The space has that classic, refined charm that instantly makes you feel like you're somewhere special -- cozy yet elegant, with an unmistakable European flair. I started with a freshly baked croissant and a pot of English breakfast tea. The croissant was just what you'd hope for -- golden on the outside, flaky and buttery, and so soft inside. It came out warm, which made it all the better. The tea was served beautifully and felt like a little ritual in itself, which I really appreciated. After enjoying a peaceful moment with my tea, I couldn't resist ordering one of their signature desserts -- the Principessa. It's a standout. Light, delicate layers with just the right balance of sweetness and texture. You can tell a lot of care goes into the pastry work here, and it really shows. The staff was kind and professional throughout -- attentive without hovering, and genuinely gracious. Even though it was a busy morning, everything moved at a relaxed pace, and I never felt rushed. This is the kind of place that makes you want to linger a bit longer than you planned. Can't wait to return and try more from the menu -- I already have my eye on the cappuccino and panini next time. Definitely a gem worth revisiting.

Hot Chocolate

Stopped in for a hot chocolate on a cold walk! When we came in, we didn't see a menu- they don't have one hung up or by the counter. We noticed when we left, that there were a few small paper ones by the door. There was plenty of seating for us to have a seat. They seem to have a full coffee bar and lots of yummy looking pastries. The hot chocolate was pretty good - not as sweet as it could've been. It was also a bit pricey - $12+ for two hot chocolates.

I'm super conflicted about Sant Ambroeus. There is a commitment to excellence with its pastry case and coffee, but sitting down for brunch was a bit of a different experience. The food was well prepared but overall lacking in taste. The avocado toast was VERY filling and the chai was phenomenal. But, I can't say it was worth the price (and I recognize the upper east side location drives up the cost). The service was good, but I quickly got lost in the shuffle being seated outside. However, the perk of sitting outside is some epic people watching. But at the end of the day, I'd probably prefer just getting pastry to go and walking along Madison Ave.

Are there speakers / is there music in the restaurant?

Not that I noticed. I just played back videos I took - none.

Are you open Christmas day?

Yes

How are the cookies here? Thinking about getting the cookie tin to bring as gifts to the in-laws when we visit.

The cookies in the tin may not be fresh. Buy your own tin and purchase the cookies you like to fill it. You can ask for one of each you are interested and pay , eat and make sure the are fresh. Then get enough to fill your tin.

Are you going to the Joyce for a wonderful evening of dance ?…read more Do you prefer a location close by ? Is inexpensive Italian food a preferred choice ? If you answered "yes" to all three, then Fumo is a place to seriously consider. The restaurant is bright and comfortable. The service is fast and attentive. The menu has lots of excellent choices. The portions are generous. The prices are very reasonable. There you go ! Fumo is for you, (at least the Chelsea location) is for you. Any drawbacks ? youi ask.....well, yes, there is one, and it should be cosnidered. The restaurant is so so so popular that the noise level can be a bit ..... shall we say "daunting." Fumo is a great place but if you want a soft, quiet place to have a serious conversation, maybe save it for another time....

This means those dishes aren't truly gluten free for people with celiac disease or anyone who has to avoid gluten. When I pointed that out to my server, he just gave me a blank stare. I tried to explain why labeling those items as gluten free is misleading, but he seemed completely disinterested, even annoyed, dismissed what I was saying, and simply responded that the pasta is gluten free. I acknowledged that the server doesn't write the menu, but absolutely zero customer service skills. The service overall was lacking. Aside from taking our order, no one checked on us or came back to see if we needed anything. Our server was just hanging out chatting up the hostess. We had to request the bill from the manager & paid at the hostess stand. Before paying, I spoke with the manager and explained what had occured. He was more professional than the server, but he was still dismissive of my concerns and of the service we received. Management seemed happy enough to promote the "option". The food was okay, definitely not enough to make up for the poor service and handling of a serious dietary issue. Needless to say I will not be returning.

Water and excellent bread arrived immediately and the waiter was helpful describing dishes and giving advice. Salads were fresh and crisp. The ricotta based cheese cake wasn't as smooth as the cream cheese form but the citrus flavor was great. It works especially well for a mixed group since they have plenty of options including dishes without meat and everyone can find something. Even my picky niece and nephew were happy.
