The food and drink is holding down this visit as the service was challenging... I felt that I needed to direct the entire meal. We were a group of 8 and had already established a substantial F&B min. So we were going to need to really make each course count. We wanted to start the evening out with a decent amount of raw bar items and apps before we were moving to our choices for dinner. They were very very rigid on how we were looking to order. We're going to spend THOUSANDS with you - can you let us enjoy each course a bit. It took forever to get the raw bar out even after we ordered and ultimately we were hoping to fire that off immediately to move on. I had to keep up with them on how to pace the meal, it was really unfortunate that instead of being able to just enjoy dinner, I had to project management it so that my guests and colleagues felt they were getting a top tier experience. The food is what really made this all stay alright as it was delicious. I would like to try again here with a smaller group and see if they can better handle it.

I'm a deeply layered human being. I love the run down mom and pop no frills restaurant ran with pure soul & grit, but every now and then, I love a white table clothed beautifully curated environment that charges $30 for a burger with no fries and makes me feel like I'm James Bond. Can't a guy enjoy both? I needed a day off of my beloved rotisserie chicken and my lady just moved to the Upper East Side. Her Mom was in town helping her move, so we all headed to the newly opened Marlow East to celebrate. We walked into an environment that made me question if I was underdressed in a brown long sleeved Theory polo and jet black Zara slacks, before we were seated at one of the high top tables. We ordered the Tuna Crudo ($25), Lobster with green curry ($32), Halibut ($48), and the Burger ($32). I also got a Vesper because, again, I was feeling like a Casino Royale James Bond. This Crudo... man. I don't even know where to start. Thick cuts of quality tuna in a light bed of black vinegar, it just changed me. I'd drink this black vinegar. I was savoring every bite, likely the best crudo I've had in my life. I didn't think I was even going to like the Lobster with green curry, avocado, and mango because who puts those ingredients together? What even is that? But it was SPIRITUAL. What an innovation. I must take a moment to shoutout Braxton Decker, the Executive Chef here, because what an innovation. This damn near had me slow clapping. The Burger and Halibut were phenomenal as well, but those appetizers truly blew us away. When the bill slowly approached the table, my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card was covering his eyes awaiting the heavy smack in the face, but my gfs Mom ended up covering the whole thing. I even made 2 real attempts to pay because it's the right thing to do, but she ended up hitting me with a firm "ABSOLUTELY NOT." We live to fight another day. This was a little find we stopped in after our flight being cancelled. The vibes were fun, and the service was relatively quick and friendly. I do think for the pricing the service could have been a bit more personalized, as we only saw our server twice but nonetheless we enjoyed our meal. We started the meal with the bone marrow which was amazing but a little steep at $42 but not bad for NYC prices I suppose. In comparison I felt both our entrees were pretty good for the price. I wish my halibut has been a bit thicker but the flavor was fantastic and still a consistent flakiness. Overall we spent about $250 after tip for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees and a glass of wine. The quality was there but for the price I have had more impressionable food.

Beautiful new, chic restaurant in the neighborhood! When you first walk in there is a beautiful bar and great romantic lighting. The waiters and staff are so welcoming and accommodated our baby and stroller which we were so thankful for. The food and drinks are so delicious! We ordered a martini and a tequila hard drink and both came out strong and tasty. For food we started with the tuna crudo and Caesar salad - both super fresh and full of flavor. For our mains we had the famous Gnudi with truffle and the halibut. The sauce on the halibut was divine! The best halibut I have had. The Gnudi was of course delicious and the truffle was an excellent touch. For dessert we had the homemade panna cotta which was topped with beautiful pistachios. This is one of the nicest high end restaurants on the upper east side, so sophisticated. Thank you to Alex the manager for taking great care of us!

Can I say how aesthetically pleasing Marlow is. The Christmas decor lights and pine on the outer walls are amazing. Inside has a sexy bar upon entry, and the dining room to follow. Steps with designs along the wall going up to the second dining area, also used for private events. The floor to ceiling glass windows admiring Lexington Ave definitely add to it all. Looks good for brunch, but decided on dinner. The staff were polite and attentive. The salad and French fries were on point. I was not wowed by the pork chop- I found it to be bland, and same goes for the halibut had by my partner. However, I plan to go again and explore the menu further. The Bitter End- close thing to a Negroni just very sweet- not at all alcohol forward. I ended up just getting a glass of crémant after. To end the evening, I was presented with a complementary birthday dessert, which was a nice surprise of my server. Thanks!

Service was good, food was decent, and the dining room is somewhat on the upscale side. Not sure why their rating is so low. We shared a market green salad, ordered the pork chop and sweet corn Agnolotti for main and ended the meal with the ice cream sundae.

The restaurant is very beautiful. The food was good , however high price, small portions . They need to add garnish to sandwich selections , ie hamburger , no fries or small green salad.

1 Star -- Absolutely Overrated and Disappointing I rarely leave reviews, but Marlowe East was so bad it felt like a public service to warn others. From the jump, this place felt like it was all about looks, no substance. Our waiter insisted we had to order everything at once, and when we asked simple portion questions -- like "Should we share the steak?" or "How big is the lobster pasta?" -- he confidently said both were "big." Spoiler alert: they were not. The steak came out as TWO tiny pieces, with "truffle" that had absolutely zero truffle flavor. I'm extremely sensitive to truffle -- this was either fake or nonexistent. The lobster pasta? Laughably small. The burger was bare, no frills, and to top it off, the fries (which they charge extra for) came out cold. We told the waiter, he offered to bring more... and then just never did. Appetizers were no better. Tuna tartare? Child-sized. Caesar salad? Even smaller -- looked like something off the kids' menu. Shrimp cocktail was passable, but nothing memorable. We waited way too long for food, though to their credit, they offered us complimentary drinks. One of the only decent gestures of the night. Eventually, we asked to speak with the manager. Told him how confusing and disappointing the steak portion was -- again, two pieces -- and that the waiter never explained anything. Manager shrugged and told us "It says 8 oz on the menu" (it doesn't), and completely dismissed our concerns. Not a single attempt to make it right. Needless to say, we skipped dessert. We won't be back and I wouldn't recommend Marlowe East to anyone. The staff is clueless, the food is weak and overpriced, and the vibe is pretentious without any of the quality to back it up. Good luck, but I honestly don't see this place lasting

I was very excited for Marlow to finally open. We live right down the street and was looking forward to making this place one of our neighborhood go to places. We have been to the bar a couple of times and always had amazing drinks and food (pictures from when I was allowed to sit at the bar) Unfortunately last week we were walking down the street and decided to pop in for a drink and maybe an appetizer. As we made our way to the bar the hostess made a beeline toward us and asked us to leave as my attire was not appropriate. I just came from my office and have worn similar outfits in the past and my wife was in a sports jacket as she was coming from work. Not sure what vibe they are looking but they have lost a customer. BTW that night we walk to BLT and Roberto welcomed us with open arms at tbe bar. One very disappointed neighbor.

Both failed epically. The bone marrow was inedible as it was like cold custard. Escargot had zero flavor and a real lack of garlic and good butter. Tasted more like vegetable oil than good butter. We shared the lobster pasta entree. Tasted more like Mexican goulash. No Italian flavors to be found in the sauce. Never once did the nameless waiter stop and inquire about our meal. Just all around a poor experience and a disappointing Friday night. There are far better places that appreciate your patronage. We will not be coming back. Not worth it.

The front part where you first walk in is the bar area with some tables. This restaurant is on the darker side and brings you back in time. Once you walk in further that is where the main dinning room is. This is also on the darker side as you can maybe tell by my photos. The wall paper and art around the restaurant is cool and there are some monkey statues around the restaurant. I was seated in a corner table in a booth area that seemed to be for at least 2-3 people. I thought for sure they would seat me at the bar area. I had a wonderful waitress whose name I think was Taylor but I could be wrong. I ordered the Monkey bread to start off with. It's a very buttery bread with truffle and parm cheese on top. I have alot of allergies and I was searching online if I could even have truffles as I have a nut allergy. So, I asked the waitress and she said she had never heard this. But, she came back to me and told me that White truffle grows near or like over where Almonds grow from but that, they don't use white truffle so I was all good. Well, this was super nice of her to check for me. I had no idea she was going to do this. She said the restaurant has strict protocols when it comes to food allergies. I then got for my main dish the double cheese burger with onions and pickles. To drink I had the cucumber martini. WOW everything was pretty darn good!! I passed on dessert. If you get a chance or a reservation pops up in your resy to go, even if it is for lunch..I highly say go for it.

We started with drinks, and mine ended up being a surprise standout. I ordered the coconut margarita, slightly hesitant since I'm not usually a margarita fan--but it completely won me over. It struck a perfect balance and leaned just enough into the coconut to make it feel unique without being overpowering. My sister-in-law, who's pregnant, had a non-alcoholic Ritual margarita and loved it, noting how convincingly it mimicked the real thing. Since we were sharing, we got to try a good mix of the menu. The monkey bread came first--definitely a splurge at $34, but it's one of those fun, indulgent starters that's worth ordering at least once. While I wouldn't call it the best bread I've ever had, I also wouldn't change anything about it. The crab rangoon was another highlight. Having it made with real crab made a noticeable difference, and the dipping sauces complemented it really well. It felt like a more elevated take on something familiar. For mains, the French dip was a hit. The meat was incredibly tender, the bread had that ideal crusty exterior, and the au jus was packed with flavor--I was very glad I ordered extra. It pulled the whole dish together. We also tried the smoked whitefish Caesar, which was the only dish that didn't quite land for me. It was a well-made, fresh salad, but the smoked fish flavor was a bit overpowering and took over the balance of the dish. Even though we were too full for dessert, the restaurant surprised us with a scoop of strawberry ice cream with chocolate sauce to celebrate my sister-in-law's babymoon. It ended up being one of the most memorable bites of the meal--we're still talking about how good that ice cream was. We arrived right at 11:45, and by the time we left, the place was absolutely buzzing. It's clearly a popular spot, and for good reason. Between the lively atmosphere, strong service, and well-executed food, I'd highly recommend making a reservation if you can.

Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.

They did however seat us at a table that was directly in the way of a lot of movement through the restaurant. Many waiters found themselves squeezing between our table and another to attend to other tables. Some were carrying very heavy looking trays. Beyond that, we had a blast. We ordered the butter service, which was super fun! The waiters make a whole show of it, seasoning the butter at the table, talking it up a bit, and then allowing us to go to town. The added shallots on top bring an extra hit of umami. The chorizo spread was a little grainy for me, but others at the table were going for seconds and thirds. I especially enjoyed the marinated leeks and the eggplant dip it was also served with. Our entrees were a little underwhelming. We ordered the lobster frites and the french onion soup burger. The burger wasn't overtly French oniony. It was just a solidly good burger. The lobster was delicious, but not anything I am continuing to think about. What I am still thinking about though, are the creme brulees! We ordered the corn creme brulee for a side. It was sweet and salty, with a great crack and chew to the top. I also loved the espresso creme brulee for dessert, which also had a nice light saltiness to it. We also got the spicy orange carrots which were totally delicious. In addition to the espresso creme brulee, we also ordered the lemon ice cream cake. It was bright and refreshing. The only downsides were the wait for the desserts. The wait was so long that our waiter insisted that they would be comped for our inconvenience. However, they were still on the bill at the end of the meal. He did remove them immediately when we pointed them out, though. And finally, coat check accidentally gave our Mother's Day bouquet of flowers to the wrong mom! We wound up with a much prettier bunch, but lost our balloon as part of the switch. Oh well! Next time, we'll definitely be ordering the brulees and I'll be damned if I leave without having their french onion soup!

While there were highlights to the evening, several aspects of the experience did not meet the high standards I have come to associate with the Quality Branded family. First, I must address a significant comfort issue two weeks ago. Our group was seated in one of the large booths, and we found that the cushions were so soft that we sank down uncomfortably low. It was quite awkward to dine when several guests could barely see over the top of the table. For a restaurant of this caliber, guest ergonomics are essential, and I would strongly encourage looking into firmer seating support for those booths. Regarding the menu, we found the oysters to be a bit of a letdown for the $5 price point. The citrus toppings were so heavy-handed that they completely overwhelmed the natural flavor of the oyster. Additionally, as a long-time fan of Quality Meats, I found the steak to be lacking in both presentation and precise execution. I had hoped for a dish that mirrored the excellence of your sister properties, but this fell short of expectations. On a more positive note, your staff was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout the night. We also thoroughly enjoyed the bread and butter cart; the butter was truly lovely and stands up well against international varieties I have tried. Furthermore, your desserts are stunning and were the highlight of our meal. I share this because I truly enjoy your restaurant group and would love to see Quality Bistro refine these details to match the world-class experience of your other locations and competitive locations in the neighborhood. I look forward to returning in the future to see how the space evolves.
