Cafe 9 is a local coffee corner in Astoria, Queens, NY. They have coffee (hot/iced), sandwiches, cold drinks, coffee bags, merch and pastries. I came and was perfunctorily greeted by a male staff. I was craving for cold drink, and I ordered an Iced Coffee. It was gloriously refreshing and made to my liking. Also, I only tried their Chocolate croissant because their kitchen is closed. It was just okay. Staff were nice. Prices were fair. Service was spot on. Atmosphere was relaxing. Dining area was spacious and neat. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and my bloody Iced Coffee. Frank has created a wonderful foodie oasis in this otherwise food desert corner of Astoria. I eat here regularly every time I visit family in New York. Nothing disappoints. Service is friendly. The place is spotless -- the bathroom included. The shaded back garden is an option on good weather days. I strolled over to Cafe 9 for brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the friendly vibe of the exterior and interior design. There were some sandwich, salad, and breakfast options as well as a beverage menu. I ordered the Frank omelette (spinach, mushroom, and goat cheese), a guava and cheese pastry, and an iced strawberry matcha latte. I was told the staff would bring my food to my table, so I found a seat. My order was brought to the table and I was delighted to see that my food also came with a small mixed green salad and two pieces of toast. As you can see from my photos, I had no issue clearing my plate. The portion size was just enough without making me feel uncomfortable and the taste was fresh and light. The matcha latte (not pictured) was great as I do not like overly sweetened matcha. The strawberry added a nice tartness and a little sweetness. However, the real star of my order was the guava and cheese pastry. The outside was so crispy and buttery and the filling was perfectly sweet and tangy. I will 100% return to try their sandwiches and other tasty treats. read more

I visited on a weekday after I moved to a nearby area. They had an extensive menu for drinks, sandwiches and desserts! I thought the interior was cute and they even had a nice outdoor section that would be perfect in sunny weather. The avocado toast that I got was pretty good but very typical. There's a decent amount of indoor seating and plenty of outdoor seating in their back patio. My Iced Latte with lavender and oat milk was well-made and they don't skimp out on the lavender. I opted for oat milk because they don't have a skim or fat free option; I wish they did because I would've preferred that and saved $1 as well. The Spinach & Ricotta Empanada was pretty decent but a bit steep for $6. I loved the chipotle aioli that it came with and actually used that for our breakfast sandwich. The Pastrami, Egg, & Cheese on Croissant didn't hit the spot as I had hoped. The egg & cheese were fine but the taste and texture of the pastrami was off. The proportion of all the ingredients compared to the croissant could've have been better. The sandwich also needed some sauce or a fresh element (tomato, avocado, etc.) which would've elevated the flavor profile. I really wanted to love this place because I live nearby and visit often for coffee. The food is actually very good, which makes this even more disappointing. Unfortunately, the staff is consistently rude and unwelcoming, and it completely ruins the experience. Great food can't make up for poor customer service. According to the team this darling coffee shop near Rainey Park has only been open for two months! There is an abundance of indoor seating, a couple of tables out front and far less obvious is the private patio in the back. There are a plethora of food options from smoothies to sandwiches and pastries. I ordered my classic match latte (the standard upon which I now judge all coffee shops!) and a tuna sandwich with spicy mayo. It was yum! Lived across the street from this new cafe and decided to come by one Sunday before work. Nice spot but I will never go back for a few reasons. I enter and there is a small line of maybe about 3 guests in front of me. The moment i get to the front, the host starts the coffee order to the person behind me which is a neighbor of mine and tries to serve him first and my neighbor has to insist that I was there first for the service. Cool whatever. I ordered a sandwich and a coffee paid and even tipped and waited for my order. while I'm waiting maybe 3 more guests arrive for small orders maybe coffees. I wait for the line to clear and I go up and order a plain bagel and the first thing the host says to me is "why did you not order this before, I have many orders you are going to have to wait" in a very sassy and passive aggressive nature. I understand being a locally owned business with a small staff but I didn't ask about the completion time I just wanted to order a bagel. After that I didn't complain, I just paid and waited.
