Eating here made me feel like I was being served a home cooked meal at my grandma's house. The owner is so sweet and kind I couldn't help but smile throughout my entire experience. I had the meat, rice and eggs dish (I forget the real name) and it was absolutely amazing. Please come here and support this small business. This is what community should feel like!

    Delicious sandwiches and coffee

Maria is very hospitable and kind. Her food is delicious and so is the coffee. The sauces are delicious! We got some desserts to enjoy at home.

    Inside counter and menu

The food was delicious and the chef/(owner?) Was so warm and welcoming. We had the spinach pie and breakfast sandwich with delicious green sauce. The iced almond cinnamon coffee was delicious as well.

    Vegan Lentil Soup

I had the best experience here. Maria made me an amazing juice, and when I asked about the lentil soup, she prepared me a bowl immediately. With fresh bread that was absolutely amazing. She makes you feel like family instantly. Not to mention the lentil soup was SO GOOD and vegan. I would go back for the food alone, but Maria made me want to share this place with everyone I know! I will definitely be back. Thank you!

We finish the best breakfast ever.

Oh my goodness! There are no words for how amazing this little cafe is. The cafe is owned by the sweetest woman ever, she made sure we felt at home. I ordered a Detox green juice, she was kind enough to give me a small cup with extra juice. I had some fresh spinach and cheese baklava, which was phenomenal. Definitely ask for her hot sauce, the owner gave us a complimentary homemade hot sauce. As we are eating, she even gave us a complimentary chicken empanada to share with our table and homemade ice cream. The owner said if you come around lunchtime, she has Chicken tagine (traditional Moroccan chicken dish). I would definitely come back again and it's worth you making the trek here!

Left: turkey avocado and right: Mediterranean tuna

The owner is super sweet and provides that neighborly feel when you order and are served with your food/drinks. We ordered the Mediterranean tuna sandwich and the turkey avocado, both were delicious but the tuna is my favorite! She also has freshly made baklava and spinach pie (my partner devoured it because that's how tasty it was) . Though the seating option is limited, there is an outdoor table and a table inside to sit at. Great to have this neighborhood cafe and definitely coming back!!

Check out her specials! Great prices

Where do I even begin with this place.... We were looking for a cafe just for a quick bite and drinks, little did we know we would stumble upon one of the greatest humans in New York. Maria was truly an unforgettable part of our trip. Got a coffee and a smoothie, both were amazing. She made my smoothie (the super berry) just a little more special with dates. We tried the homemade spinach pie, and oh my gosh, SO GOOD!!!!! Maria was great to talk to and she made us feel like we were a part of her family. I couldn't stop thinking about her great energy and great food for the remainder of our trip. She will be one of the reasons why I go back to NY. Do yourself a favor and stop by to say hi to Maria

Another hidden gem comes to Astoria -Sunshine is a hidden gem located at the other end of 21st Street off Ditmars Blvd The cafe itself has a nice bright and breezy feel, and though not very visible from the street, yet has a relaxed dining and seating area inside. The owner, Maria, has taken the time to display her fruits, juices, and pastries around the display table . I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, and my partner a spinach pie. We both ordered a cherry pastry, and I ordered freshly squeezed apple juice which was very fresh. You can see that the manager (Maria) takes her time with everything. Each dish she prepares separately, so everything takes time and is well worth it. Verdict -well worth a 2nd visit. I will be back.

The restaurant felt homey and I could tell there were many regulars and other return visitors, for good reason! Ordered: Masala Chai ($4.50)- this tasted authentic, was nicely spiced, and wasn't too sweet. I only wish the cup was bigger. Steamed momo ($12+)- I like how you have the option to mix and match. We ordered the mixed vegetable and the oyster mushroom and surprisingly I much preferred the oyster mushroom variety. The mixed vegetable momo tasted more earthy to me. Himalayan rice set ($20.5)- this was a very nice assortment- there was rice, lentil dal, your protein of choice- (I chose beef brisket), stir fried cabbage, broccoli rabe, pickled vegetables and crisp flatbread. The only downside in my opinion was that the brisket wasn't too tender and I didn't love the beef flavoring or preparation. The rest of the items were so delicious! I've been thinking about this meal ever since I left the restaurant. You don't want to skip this place.

This place may not look like much, but once you step inside and taste the food, you'll realize you've struck gold. I tried their chicken green enchiladas, and wow, they were incredible! The enchiladas were super saucy, which I absolutely love. The green salsa had just the right amount of spice--enough to give it a kick without overpowering the flavors. The grilled chicken was a fantastic surprise; it's different from the usual shredded chicken you find elsewhere, and it really elevated the dish. I also tried the red chilaquiles, and those were a hit too! They had a great spice kick. The only hiccup was the steak--I ordered it medium, but it arrived well done. A little room for improvement there, but it didn't overshadow the overall experience. This place serves up delicious, authentic Mexican food, feels just like home away from home, If you appreciate real Mexican cuisine, I highly recommend checking it out. You won't be disappointed!

It can be a little confusing to find since it's a stand inside the market, not a separate store front. They carry a pretty wide variety of Asian flavor-inspired breads, pastries, cakes and cookies, including buns and some more dessert-type items. I checked out Progreso for an event this past weekend and ended up buying a few items to go: - matcha marble sponge cake $4.49: was fluffy, light and moist, good flavor of matcha and a light schmear of whipped cream in the middle. Would get this again! - taro cream puff $6.50: this was taro paste (? not sure if that's fully accurate though it felt more consistency of soft whipped taro than a traditional pastry cream) with whipped cream on top sandwiched by what I believe was choux pastry with craquelin. I think maybe because the this was sitting chilled/refrigerated for a while the top craquelin layer wasn't quite crispy anymore, though it looked nice. Personally it was a bit too much regular whipped cream, would've preferred more of a taro pastry cream. - mango pudding with fresh mango $6.50 mango flavor in the pudding was light though it was a nice tease of flavor. The texture was on the firmer side for puddings. The mangos were a bit oxidized though tasted ok, maybe glaze them or do something to maintain the color? Since this is a pretty new spot hope they could make a few improvements and blow it out of the park! I appreciated the owners' enthusiasm for sharing about their shop.

It's definitely a cozy and popular café--mostly cozy because of the size. Seating is limited, but the interior design is clean, minimal, and uncluttered, which makes the space feel calm and welcoming despite the steady stream of customers coming in and out while we were there. Food-wise, everything impressed us. I ordered the pistachio croissant, while my companions got the gochujang hot chicken sandwich and the breakfast sandwich. The chicken sandwich was especially memorable--unique, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My pistachio croissant was also great; personally, I might have preferred a little less pistachio cream or a more textured filling like almond paste, but that's purely a preference. It was still excellent. The service really stood out. They were quick, friendly, and incredibly accommodating--one of my companions accidentally dropped their sandwich, and the staff replaced it free of charge without hesitation. That kind of kindness goes a long way. The price point is amazing for the quality of food you're getting, and we felt completely comfortable lingering for several hours. Throughout our stay, there was a consistent flow of customers, which says a lot. Me and my girl was looking for a coffee shop that was laptop friendly and closed late since we came after work. I was a bit disappointed that they did not serve any alcoholic beverages as I saw a lot of good reviews on that portion. We came, we sat down on a Saturday night. There was only one person at the front and it seemed she was also managing the serving part so it did get pretty hectic at some point. We decided to order the Budae Jigae (Hot Pot), there is no way to alter the spicy level so for those who love spicy spicy, this is for you. Me and my friend was really disturbed by the fact that we were treated some type of way. Maybe it's because we weren't Korean or? Service was slow asf. It took a really long time for them to serve me my iced strawberry matcha drink. And even longer for the food. It was also hard to tag her down, and she seemed pretty annoyed that we had to ask her for multiple items. We were a party of 2 and she only gave us one set of items. I went again by myself the next day to see if it was better service and it was pretty packed. There was actually 3-4 people at the front but even then it was so hard to get someone to take my order, ask for napkins, for the check, etc. While there was no time limit on Saturday, there was a time limit of 1 hour and 30 minutes on Sunday. would I go again? First 100 customers in line would receive a limited-edition sippy glass tumbler with attached boba straw & removable lid cover with his/her in-store purchase. They accept both cash and debit/credit card. The line was effectively managed with no line cutters, no arguing, and nothing crazy going on. Overall, it was such a pleasant experience. Lots of people have still showed up despite the really cold weather & down-pouring. Nothing gonna stop me from getting the cute glassware. Store opened and promotion started at 12:05pm. Everyone just ordered one by one towards the front when it was his/her turn. The Vietnamese Cloud Coffee was $7.52 (after tax). Hot/iced + medium/large drinks have different set of prices btw. Staff then handed me the glassware & a free sampler bowl of their soon-to-launch either lemongrass chicken/pork rice bowl after accepting payment. Portion was definitely more on the generous side to say the least. Devoured the sampler bowl in 15 mins because I was hungry & aside from keeping the rain not getting into the food. Flavorful lemongrass chicken + appetizing pickled carrot + fresh, crunchy sliced cucumber laid on a blanket of fluffy white rice. All the ingredients went well together. This is something I would definitely buy for lunch/dinner if this item ever gets added to the menu in the future. I ordered a hot Vietnamese Cloud Coffee, a new drink on the menu. My first time actually ordering a hot drink from Tea & Milk. Usually go for the iced drinks but I was feeling quite cold. So, I needed something hot to hold in my hands. Staff called out your name when it was ready for pickup. Love starting my day off with the strong flavor of Vietnamese coffee! By far, this might actually be the best tasting Vietnamese coffee I have had in all my years. And, I'm usually not a coffee person either. Didn't taste watered down and/or heavily sweetened at all.
