I went on a Sunday after hearing they usually have vegan pastries that day, but unfortunately there weren't any available when I visited. The chai latte was fine, though it was premade. My friends enjoyed their lattes more than I did. They offer a good variety of non-dairy milks (oat, almond, soy), with a small upcharge. Where this place really shines is the atmosphere. I'm a huge Tolkien fan and loved all the memorabilia around the shop. The decor feels thoughtful and intentional, and the changing art on the sign out front is especially charming. It's conveniently located near the subway, so it's easy to find other food nearby if you're still hungry. The staff was friendly, and the bathrooms were clean and available for customers. read more

Maybe I'm a sucker for LOTR, or maybe I just love a good cafe that can do pastries and coffee well. Either way, I loved this coffee shop on the border of Astoria and Dutch Kill. The location is the only draw back, as it is situated almost under the elevated train tracks that cause quite a racket. But if you go inside you find comfy chairs, bean bags, lots of board games, some books, and killer pastry and coffee options! Highly recommend the pistachio pastry and the croissants. I will say the person who took my order was so friendly and sweet. The barista making the drinks had a terrible attitude tho. I think they forgot people pass 4-5 coffee shops just to get to this one- not really productive to be hostile to your customers. The drinks weren't very good either- I'd rather get a chai latte from Starbucks with a smile than come back to this place. Unless you would like a condescending barista making you a less than good drink, I would avoid this place. read more

They have a few housemade syrups and decided to try the Cardamom Vanilla in my Iced Latte. It was absolutely delicious and I loved the unique addition of cardamom in a latte making it more aromatic and added some warmth and depth to the drink. The Iced Mocha was also a good try; they make the mocha syrup in-house too! The Blueberry Galette was incredible. It's flaky, it's sweet, it's crisp on the outside, it's soft on the inside and the blueberry compote wasn't overpowering at all. Slightly tart, slightly sweet, and very fresh. This marvel of pastry perfection is soon to close, we understand. It has much to do with a terrible landlord. I just finished a raspberry tort that was so delicious I just closed my eyes and chewed and enjoyed every tiny morsel. Georgia, the owner and pastry artist, puts absolute magic perfection in each and every creation -- the taste, the texture, the combination of flavors -- it makes me cry that Elevenses will no longer be around the corner. Went for a Yelp event but I am so glad I stopped to purchase coffee and tea. The server was an actual delight and recommend me the Titan's espresso cream which was absolutely delicious. Very cute concept! I loved the LOTR themed aesthetic. My friend just HAD to take me here because we both love LOTR. Food - We shared a savory scone, I got a giant cookie, and also I ordered a caramel latte. The coffee itself was pretty tasty. I almost wanted to buy some espresso beans but I stopped myself! The scone was very tasty and the cookie was VERY sweet Service - The guy who helped us out was very friendly. Everything was prepared for us pretty quickly . I have no complaints about the service. I adore this cafe! It gives very laid back vibes with the couches on one side and high top seats on the other. Their coffee prices are reasonable $4-6, they have a blackboard on the counter indicating some specialty drinks and al the flavored syrup options. The standouts are of course their rotating menu of fresh pastries with at least 4-5 options each for sweet and savory. I only wish they had a board listing their pastries of the day. Today we tried their focaccia and morning bun. The focaccia was thick and fluffy, it was topped with tomatoes, potatoes, eggs with a spicy kick - quite delicious and filling. I loved their morning bun, it was not overly sweet, notes of orange zest and caramelized to perfection. I hope this one is a standard option they offer. This is my new favorite cafe in the area! I've come on two occasions and there's nothing more satisfying than a delicious pastry and an amazing cup of bold iced coffee to keep me refreshed after a morning workout. Their pastries are mindblowing--and I don't really throw that word around that much. I was completely blown away when I first had their grape galette. I've never really had a pastry with grapes so I wasn't sure what to expect but as soon as I heard the words "goat cheese" and "open-faced croissant," I was completely sold. On my last visit, I had a pastry that had peaches and I was so hungry that I basically scarfed it down as soon as I walked out the door. It was good, though. The best thing is that their pastries are made in-house in small batches so they're fresh! I do think that it'd be helpful for them to have their pastries on display so customers can see the range that they offer and not ask about them since they offer some pretty unique pastries than your average cafe. Such a shame that they're pretty new and I recently switched gyms so I won't be able to swing by on weekend mornings as much but no lie, this place is wonderful. I actually preferred coming here over Little Flower (no shade to them, but fighting for a seat is super hectic there) and I am okay with them not having as many food offerings yet. I'll start by saying, I did not come here for the LotR/GoT themes. I came because I've seen just astounding looking pastries on their instagram page and because it's very conveniently located for me! With that being said, I was not disappointed by any lack of fantasy style decor, in fact, I think the space was very tastefully decorated, with a clean, but homey feel. There was a sandwich board outside advertising a cherry honey latte that sounded divine/fascinating, but I am avoiding caffeine at the moment. Anyway, I really came for some picture perfect pastries. I was pleasantly greeted by the staff, but looking around, I didn't see much evidence of the pastries I'd seen so much of on their instagram. Except that the pastry chef behind the counter was rolling out some croissants filled with the most beautiful purple potatoes and green pesto. The colors were SO vibrant. As I was a woman with a mission, I asked the counter person, "no more pastries??" And he assured me there were plenty. Sweet croissants, savory, financiers, madeleines, etc. etc. etc. They mentioned a hand pie, which caught my attention - hoping it was maybe filled with some seasonal peaches. But, it was actually a savory handpie. It had spinach, artichoke, ramps, among other veggies. I opted for that hand pie and a white peony peach iced tea. When I got in the car and had that first bite of handpie, I might've slipped into a mini episode of rhapsody. The flavors all melded together so deliciously. The crust was flaky and buttery. I am getting hungry again just thinking about it. The iced tea was delicate and pleasant, and the napkin/sweetener station has simple syrup you can use to sweeten your drink. The very next day, after a night spent dreaming about the handpie, I returned to Elevenses and chatted with the young lady who was making the savory croissants the day before. She was super lovely and confirmed that she was indeed the pastry chef. I asked about different flavors and she said they change the flavors/fillings almost daily based on what's seasonal - HOW IT SHOULD BE! Love that. This time around, they were already sold out of the handpies, but they had a savory croissant filled with a bechamel sauce and chanterelle mushrooms - how could I pass up that immense combination? I skipped a drink, but I did also snag a sweet pastry, this time a financier, which the pastry chef described as a cross between a cake and a cookie made out of almond flour. It was epic! A solid place in the neighborhood for pastries and coffee!! I would say not to follow the menu that's posted on yelp/pics on yelp. The owner said the menu needed a major facelift and wasn't accurate. Their current food menu is whatever is listed on their chalkboard, so we ordered 1 of everything they had left. We got a hand pie (squash, mushrooms, and spinach), cookie (Chocolate chip walnut), scone (carrot, ginger), and morning bun. All the pastries were delicious but my favorite was the hand pie! The crust was so flaky and the filling was savory but it was also flavorful. I got an iced pumpkin spice latte and the coffee was very good. It wasn't too sweet and I enjoyed the drink. Perfectly fine cafe with a decent array of options, somewhat minimal bakery items. Relatively overpriced for what it is, even considering average prices being higher everywhere. Iced tea didn't have much flavor, primarily water-y. Croissant was good. Service was fine, not attentive or friendly but that doesn't bother me. Some cozy seating to the side, can see this being a good place to sit and relax/work since it's in a less high-traffic area than other cafes. read more

I'd rate Elevenses four and a half stars. NYC, particularly Brooklyn and Queens, has entered a golden age for croissants. Elevenses is part of the elite group which in my opinion also includes La Bicyclette Bakery, L'Appartement 4F, and Nick + Sons Bakery amongst others. (Please message me if you think I missed one; I'd love to check it out). We shared a croissant topped with black sesame seeds and filled with a halva like sesame goo. We had it later in the day, but it was still excellent. It was probably one of the most flakey croissants, and it was certainly one of the most creative. Best pastries I have had in years. I am picky so I can count on two hands the places that I would go out of my way to go back to over and over. I cant recomend this place enough. My mother and I stopped in and now we both want to go back as much as possible. It was so good I made a yelp account just to leave a review. Best scone I ever had, an amazing blackberry lemon muffin, a cookie that's a perfect cross between a cookie and a brownie, a flakey tomato brie pastry. Everything they make that I try has been perfection. The decor is adorable with couches to sit on and comfortable chairs. The staff is all friendly and accommodating. It's such a great place I want it to stay open so I can keep going back. read more

I went in around 10 am. There were a few chairs to sit on, but the tables were filled. The neo-classic and jazz music was really nice. A lot of people were working quietly, and that seemed to set the vibe, so I wouldn't say this is a meeting place to chit chat with friends, which is totally cool! There were a lot of great book selections by the window too. This is also a dog-friendly café, so there are many dog guests coming in and out, which is a pleasure for me. When I visited, a lot of the items/section in the menu was about to be revamped, so they were crossed out unfortunately. I had the plain croissant, and it was neither too oily nor crumbly. Needless to say, it was very tasty. They gave it to me without heating it, so it was stale, so I had to ask them to heat it up. Regardless, there were many other croissant options, so I would like to come back to try them. The coffee was okay--too sour for my taste. I absolutely LOVE this place! I often work remotely from here on tuesdays and fridays and its never too crowded. There are four "bar style" seats with outlets for working, and a number of comfy chairs and couches for hanging out. The pastry selection is very very good- so far I've had the london fog morning bun and a cheese/apricot danish and both were super tasty. This past weekend they donated a generous portion of their earnings to humanitarian aid in Gaza which definitely cemented this coffee shop as one of my favorites in the city. 11/10 would recommend read more

Sad to say, this bakery is not top-notch. I came here last month and found the bakery devoid of many items, even in the displays. I ordered a cheese croissant and couldn't taste the cheese. The coffee was not good either -tasteless in fact! The concept behind Elevenses is all wrong. Most of the seating is uncomfortable, with only a few lounge seats, you don't have comfy seats at the other end near the tables with stools. I did not check their wifi but simply put everything from the displays to seating needs to be reviewed and reorganized. I will not be back for quite a while. For this new eatery to be in this spanking new food hall, a better bakery is needed. read more

Great food and happy that it's in Astoria for more traditional and interesting pastries and other baked goods along with espresso and coffees. Along with Little flower, these are the 2 best cafes to open here in the past year. Operations is where things need to be fixed. Often times in the morning items listed on the menu aren't ready for 15-20min and menu items listed on their permanent menu aren't available at all so consistency is a challenge here. I wish they would have a few staples that are always available in the mornings (croissants, morning buns, etc) and then some specials to mix it up. Cute cafe on 35th ave! The decor is adorable- would be a great space to hole up and read on a rainy day. However it's pretty tiny- not too many seats. I came in on a gross day around 11 and there were only two spaces open. They have vegan pastries on Sunday, but they sell out quick so make sure to come early! The chocolate croissant was huge, flaky, and had a crunchy layer on sugar on top- definitely recommend! I opted for one of the Blume lattes- caffeine free turmeric and cacao with almond milk. Actually wish it came a bit hotter, but still a standard turmeric latte otherwise. I got here at 9:30 AM for their one year anniversary because they had been advertising that they are making Semla's. A very popular Swedish pastry. I haven't been home to Sweden in over 3 years and haven't had one since then. So, when I saw this I was ecstatic to say the least. So, I get here fairly early to make sure they don't run out before I get there. Turns out that they changed their opening hours for this day to 10 AM. the only information about this I could find was a instagram reel they posted just after 9 AM the same day and a handwritten note on the door. It was 28° this day so I had to wait outside in the cold for 30 min. and when I get in they tell me that the Semlas aren't even done yet. They tell me it would be another 30min or so. I get a bit annoyed but decide to get a maple cappuccino and sit down and wait. The cappuccino was good no complaints. After 30min or so I ask how long until they are done and they told me another few minutes. 30min later Nothing and I go and ask them how much longer? At this point I am just here because I have been already waited so long for the pastry (2h15min). About 10minutes later the guy at the counter told me they were ready and they were nice enough to comp me one extra for free. I did appreciate that. The semla was really good and I do recommend it but this was a frustrating experience and I hope that this was an anomaly because they got a good thing going and I hope other people won't have the same experience. read more

Newly opened cafe in Astoria - right next to the Astoria food hall. Stopped by on the lovely Wednesday where we were graced with some amazing sun and weather. I stopped in and was pleasantly surprised by the unique setup and vibes. The ambiance was relaxed vibes and chill. The walls were a deep blue and the furniture was a dark brown leather. I would definitely pop in to do some work here on my laptop. I wanted a cold brew and inquired about the bean and the roast. I think the girl who was working was relatively new to the coffee world, but she tried and that is what matters now-a-days. She was able to tell me the bean they use is from a Brooklyn shop called Tildeath. She advised that I check them out on Instagram and noted they have great things as well as coffee. I was still uncertain about what kind of bean they used and if their cold brew process was an overnight soak, but none the less, it was a splendid cup of coffee and definitely not watered down. I opted for an all black cup of joe, but they do have options to add your preference of milk. I wanted to try some baked goods based on their IG posts of cookies, pastries, etc, but there was nothing on display, so perhaps they were sold out by 2pm. If you're in the area seeking a cup of coffee off the beaten path, it's definitely worth a shot to stop in here.
